I have owned birds my entire life. I grew up with birds and I recently added a pineapple Conure to our family. Every single time I come into the shop I never leave disappointed. They answer every single one of my questions and I ask a lot of questions. They are incredibly knowledgeable and truly care for the well-being and happiness of the birds They always give me great recommendations and are incredibly helpful. I can't recommend this shop enough!! I am so happy to have this shop so close to home. I refuse to go shop for my feathered babies anywhere's else!!! read more

One star goes to the birds. I love these birds, this place is so noisy it might make you go crazy! There was one there that would scream at me when I entered the room and wouldn't stop until I got up to his cage. When I walked away, he'd scream again. For me, this was a source of enjoyment and entertainment. Minus 4 stars because the people working here are serious BIRD SNOBS. We have bought a couple birds here, they gave our little babys extra attention as he was being weaned. Both turned out to be great birds. They have a good selection of bulk foods. Our flock eats zuprem and i dont like to buy the 25 lb bag. we can get it here a few pounds at a time. Usually have lots of birds to look at. They breed hawk heads, rosies, mccaws, conures and more. read more

PLEASE read DONT shop here this is a text I sent the owners and she never even responded I do not know if my bird lived or died . But I am sure she will sell him to some other person to make m I just need for you to know how very disappointed I am with how you deal with the people who spend so much money buying Birds , cages and supply's from you , Mango the Moluccan cockatoo who we paid $4000.00 for who was plucking ( you said she would stop plucking in a new environment) we had to bring her back because she was plucking so bad, You gave us store credit, my husband then chose a Rose Breasted Cockatoo baby at the price of $2500.00 my daughter bought one at the same time at $2500.00 plus we paid $500.00 per cage = $1500.00 Then purchased an African grey baby at $2500.00 that is $1000.00 more than the credit you gave us for Mango I think this would at least get me a phone call about the bird that I Surrendered due to self Mutilation that cost me $2500.00, this was a very young bird not even two years old , I could maybe understand an older bird doing this but not one so young , I am so disappointed and saddened over the whole thing. I bought my blue and gold macaw in 2005 from these folks. Actually, he was still in an egg when my husband put the money down as it was my wedding gift from him. I also visited this store on a daily basis as I was new to the Lodi area and am a huge animal lover. I did this for at least a few months. The owners who are all related and family put up with me. Were never rude to me. However, I did purchase my bird, all my supplies, and stayed the heck out of their way! Oh, and I continue to drive the 30 minutes back to them to have my birds wings, nails, and beak trimmed every 3-4 months. Now, in all fairness......this is not Petco. These folks are not sporting cheesy vests and fake smiles as this is a family owned private business. It is very clean. They are extremely knowlegable.The only time they've gotten strict with people going in the back of the store was when some moron stuck his finger in a cage and got bit and threatened to sue. Even though plastered all over are warnings NOT to do this! They have number of birds that are tame that you can handle. But, there are no guarantees they won't bite. I thought this was great because I know of nowhere else where people allowed you to do this. Anyway, this is my first review on Yelp because I actually needed to look up Cedar Hills # to make an appointment for my bird and was shocked to see people write the things they did. I took the time to read reviews that others have posted about Cedar Hill Birds. My experience was so different than the negative reviewers' that at first I thought I was reading about the wrong store. I have owned companion birds off and on for over 20 years. I am no expert, but I am confident enough in my abilities to properly care for my birds and to know when something is not right. Last Spring I put a deposit on a Duyvenbode's Lory. This is not a bird for beginners. I had a lory previously so I knew about their special dietary requirements and the liquid droppings. Alycia sent me frequent pictures of my bird - I really appreciated that. My bird was in perfect health and very sweet. However, my BF (who helps a lot with bird cage maintenance) was frustrated with the liquid droppings everywhere. I was frustrated and I reached out to Alycia who agreed to work with me. She took my bird back and gave me a fair credit. I waited months for the right bird to come along - a severe macaw. Alycia contacted me and to let me know they had one and I went down to see it a few days later. I was in love. The chick had most of its feathers and an adorable mohawk. In the weeks of waiting for the bird to wean, Alycia kept me updated and arranged to bring her to the shop for a weekend visit so I could see her again. Once I took the bird home, Alycia was in constant contact with me to make sure she was eating, etc. since she was still young. I couldn't be happier with my bird - she's a feathered diva. I have never been treated poorly - and have never witnessed the rude or snobbish behavior described by others. Eric and Alycia's birds are their livelihood - they treat their business seriously. They took the extra time to make sure I had all the information and supplies I needed to care for my bird. Their knowledge and expertise is top-notch. If you are serious about your birds, Cedar Hill is the place for you. read more

Horrible, filthy store. Pure torture for the birds being kept in the back as they have dirty cages to live in, dirty feeders that they eat just plain seed out of and dirty water containers. Birds there were plucked and several looked sick. Even the room itself was a big mess and smelled. The larger birds kept in small cages were obviously lacking the attention they crave which was heartbreaking to see. The birds up front did not fare much better. Shame on the owners for keeping this store open to take people's money. I gave a one star rating only because I had to rate this business to write a review. read more

I wish I could give this place more stars because the birds this place breeds are the best thing they have going for them. They are very well taking care of & of high quality. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase a bird from them even though they can be a little more expensive than other breeders but you are getting what you pay for. The store has a good selection of bird food & toys but most of what they carry I can find online for 75% less cost which is one of the reasons I stopped shopping there. The main reason I even started looking for other resources to purchase my bird products is because the customer service here is CRAP to say the least & I was avoiding going into the store at all cost because I don't like to be treated like I'm some homeless vagrant begging to use the bathroom at a 5 star restaurant. The owner Eric is very nice & informative & has a good bed side manner, his wife on the other hand is a raging witch. She has offended me & numerous people I know on more times than I can count. When I worked at a local bird vet, I heard nothing but complaints about her, her manners & the overall disrespectful & overall poor customer service at this store. In my opinion....she either hates her job or hates the public. She gives nasty dirty looks at you s soon as you enter the front door & god forbid you ask a question & she has to get up off her behind & come around the counter to help you. When you call, she is even more rude. I totally understand that this is a very busy store & I know for a fact they work around the clock even when they're not in the store but its no excuse to treat the customers like something you steps in. They act like total SNOBS who are better then everyone else & I got news for you......YOU ARE THERE TO SERVICE US...not the other way around. read more

As a passionate bird lover and animal rescuer I was absolutely appalled by the conditions in which avian companions we kept in their retail store. If this is the "public face" for their operations one can only shudder at the thought of those kept out of view. Even their own website refers to their operation as a "farm", think puppy mill but for birds. The birds kept at the store were, for the most part, kept in small, shit-stained cages. Their water dishes filled with seed husks and other crud, and fed a primarily seed diet. Some of their animals were clearly displaying "stereotyping" behaviors due to their substandard confinement. For me the answer is clear when it comes to bringing any species home: don't breed, don't buy, adopt! read more

I don't normally write reviews, as I don't normally go by reviews as I like to experience things for myself. However, in this instance, I have to speak up as it threatened the life of my bird. Cedar Hills is a great place to obtain supplies and such for your bird. Whenever I go in, they are friendly and helpful and I have had great experiences on the retail end of this business. This is the only reason that I have given 3 stars. I took my bird to have his nails trimmed, as I did not want to do it myself for fear of cutting the quick and hurting my bird. As I had good experiences with the staff I decided to use their grooming services and have my birds nails trimmed. When I brought my bird home and let him out of his carrier, I was horrified to find him bleeding everywhere. As the inside of his carrier was black, I did not see the bleeding when I left the store. A horrifying hour later, I had gotten the bleeding to slow enough to feel comfortable placing him back in the carrier for the 20 min drive back to the store to have styptic powder applied. And their response was that this is normal, it happens all the time, there is nothing to worry about as this is not something that is life threatening as the bleeding would have stopped." First of all, I took him to the groomer to avoid having the quick cut. Second of all, every website I've read states that if you don't stop the bleeding, it can be life threatening. My bird friends agree. My bird had been bleeding heavily for a good 45 mins, it took a good 1.5-2 hrs to get it to stop completely. He would not leave his cage for the first 12 hours after the incident, and it took a good 24 hrs for him to begin to show any semblance of his regular goofy personality. If I had left him to bleed, he easily could have bled out. Bleeding nails are not normal and should be avoided if possible. I will not be returning for grooming. read more

Well the birds were pretty cool to look at. There are many, many varieties of birds at this place. Ranging from love birds to the most exotic toucans. Very pricey I might add. They are strict and you HAVE to have your hands in your pockets while walking around in the back to look at all the birds. The people who worked there were... quite strange. Cedar hills has good prices on food but the toys and other supplies can be really overpriced unless they're trying to get rid of something and putting it on sale. They have a wide selection of birds but the aviary in back always concerns me. I would have loved to give this place more stars because the hand raised birds they have are awesome and the owners seem to care about who their birds go to but the guy who is usually there is really rude to me. every time i go there i dread having to talk to him because he always treats me like i'm an annoying moron. From the first time i went in expressing an interest in buying a particular bird as a companion to the last time i went looking for new toys and perches. i've ended up visiting cedar hills less and less often partly because of the price but mostly because i don't want to have to deal with his attitude. read more

All the bird food I bought was infested with beetles and moths. When I opened it the next day there were worms everywhere and one moth out. I took out about 10 worms in the food I had portioned out to my conure. I have frozen this food multiple times but I still feel weary of the food. read more

We've been here a few times as we are new parrot owners and every time the staff has been really friendly and helpful. The staff assisted my husband in holding any bird he wanted. Every time we have questions the staff has been very gracious with their answers. I'm not sure if the prices are more expensive than online, but it's nice to be able to see the products you're buying and support a local, family run business. We've purchased a cage, many toys, and food here and we look forward to coming back. read more

I brought my son here today because he is 1.5 years old and "birdie" is his new obsession. The crows in Tracy are just not hacking it. This place is giant. I have never seen so many birds in my life in one place. There were birds here I've never even seen on TV before. The owner was very kind and spoke with us but never hassled. If you are looking for a high quality, hands on/ nurturing breeder, this is the store/breeder to buy from. My family and I bought a Bellanora Cockatoo (1/2 Umbrella & 1/2 Eleanora Cockatoo) Very beautiful. The price I paid was well worth it. The customer service we got today from Alycia and Eric was outstanding. They are very knowledgeable with their birds. We did not feel uncomfortable asking any question about our new bird or it's needs. We found their prices to be the same as anywhere else. The store has more selections of toys/equipment than any other pet store we have been in. read more

After reading the other reviews my husband and I were a little hesitant to go to this place, but we're so glad we did! There was a nice man named Dave who helped us out. We unknowingly got there a little early. As were just waiting outside, he came out to our car and asked us if we'd like to come in. He didn't need to do that, but he did, and we appreciated it. We just went in for some bird spray, and bird food, but we happily walked out with a sweet new avian friend. He let us handle the birds, and carefully explained everything to us. The price was a bit too high, so we asked if there was any wiggle room, and he was able to bring down the price a bit. We appreciated that also. I love this store and the folks who own it. Eric and Alycia are world renown breeders who are dedicated to raising healthy birds with great personalities.. My husband and I have bought all but one bird from Cedar Hill Enterprises and have had nothing but positive experiences. The owners care deeply about the birds they breed and because of this, they are definitely looking for people who understand and really care about the birds they purchase. It is not easy to own a bird and for this reason many are abandoned. Birds require a life-long commitment and many folks don't understand that their pets may outlive them. Owning a bird requires constant upkeep. You could change a water dish and 5 minutes later it is filled with seeds and detritus. Birds love to tear up everything, they toss their food everywhere--and unless a potential buyer understands the habits and behaviors of our feathered friends, he/she may misperceive good treatment as neglect. In addition to selling birds and bird products, Cedar Hill provides educational experiences, is available for grooming, and every 6 months has an itinerant veterinarian who gives well bird checkups. These are services which go above and beyond the typical pet store. read more

We took our macaw there for a grooming. I wish I read some of these reviews before we went as it would have saved us the trip to Lodi. First impression was the place was dirty. Next impression was from the lady who does the grooming. She gave us dirty looks as soon as we walked in and was extremely rude. She is hostile to customers, insulting and arrogant. After allowing her to speak to us rudely we took back our bird before we made the mistake of having to give this dump any money. We definitely explained to her why we were taking our business elsewhere. I guess she is part of this family business so it's too bad the rest of the employees are stuck with her. Extremely knowledgable owner and staff. Grooming, available on Saturdays by appointment.( wingclipping and nailclipping), and is VERY reasonably priced. Bird seed mixes and pellets are available in bins, so that if you need to buy a smaller quantity to save money, you can. I never made it to the store. I arranged via email to meet the owner's wife and the bird, to sign the contract and put down a deposit. Also to choose a cage, etc. The bird was not weaned and would be available mid-August. She sold the bird to someone else before our appt. saying " In my business nothing is considered sold until money is paid... I spend hours on the computer talking to people and educating them most of the time to come find out that they have no intention of buying or actually cannot afford the bird." It is a 150 mile trip for us-at least she let us know before we got there. Communication issue? Maybe but it could have been cleared up by asking us. We bought elsewhere. read more

After reading reviews of others, I was a little concerned about this place, but when I got there i found its excellent..I bought a Sunday Conure earlier this week from Cedar Hill and I love him. The people there were very friendly and full of useful information regarding bird care and such. I will definitely be going back for more supplies..Also the hands in your pocket policy is regarding the breeder birds in the back, they are not tame, so it is just for extra precaution. The birds in the front of the store, the ones that are hand raised, you are more than welcome to pet and hold. read more

I don't normally write reviews, but I did want to express my satisfaction about Cedar HIll Birds. I am a bird lover and have raised different kinds throughout my life. When I found out they existed like 8 years ago, I was like "oh my gosh" "I have to go there". I would visit the store several times, bought some very nice finch birds, diamond back doves, cocaktiels and then I decided to purchase a parrot, my husband bought my a female african grey. We then purchased a Blue and Gold Macaw. I have to say that Cedar Hill had the best prices around, I only paid $900 for my baby grey, they allowed payments as the baby was still being weaned, we were able to visit her regularly and spend time with her, the same for the macaw, we bought her as a baby and took her home weaned. We purchased her cage and tree there and manys from there for them, I have to say they have the best prices around. They also have a traveling bird doctor that comes around about twice a year and he has great service. I take my grey in for nail trimming, wings, full exam, and everything has turned out great! My grey is now 6 years old. I have also had my greys nails trimmed there and I have never had a problem, she even handled it very well without a peep (as she doesnt like her nails trimmed). I will continue to shop there as i think its a great place!!, I thank Eric, Alicia and Dave for all their great service and the wonderful companions they have raised to make me and others so happy. read more

Eric and his wife are always friendly when I am in there. His wife can be a little rude at times, but, her dad is a very sweet man. The prices are always comparable. The service superior and the birds are phenominal. I've been in aviculture for nearly 20 years and Cedar hill birds are amoung the best breeders of healthy, well socialized birds. Please give these individuals a try. the person who does , the beak trims and toes nails .on birds should learn how to be nice to paying customers. but nope rude and mean, some times in life things are more important then a beak trim specially with a ill family member. yet my bird never was stressed until it came here to get a beak trim. shame too. read more

I have made beak,nail, and wing appointments before and had no problem with them doing it for me but they always cut my birds wings to short to where if she falls off of something she just plummets to the ground and end ups biting her tongue and bleeds. The last two appointments I have made the first one I was late by 5 minuets and the lady that cuts the nails and stuff had left because she had better things to do. So then the owner tells me she had waited as long as she could and couldn't wait any longer for me to show up. And after all that as I'm leaving he tops off everything with a lie saying that she had called me several times trying to get a hold of me when I had no missed calls. There was no sorry or come back next week I'll give you a discount or any sort or apology. I just don't recommend this store I now go to parrot planet in Sacramento it's a bit of a drive but I haven't been disappointed yet. read more

The single star is for a bad experience we had in having our African Grey's nails trimmed. Initially the experience was excellent. The person doing the nails was friendly with the bird as she carried it back in the carrier and returned in less than 5 minutes. The bird seamed to NOT be stressed and even said a Hello. She told us the nails were long and his feet would be tender. We felt good about the experience and left thinking we would definitely come back. It took us 30 minutes to drive straight home and when we took the bird out of his carrier there was a fair amount of blood on the newspaper. Two nails had been cut way too short and baking soda would not stop the bleeding even though the bird was calm and let us hold the soda on the nails. Wife made a run to the closed drugstore to get some quick stop while I held the bird and tried to keep it an myself calm. Bleeding finally stopped - but it took 10 minutes of pressure on the nail with the quick stop total time of bleeding was over 90 minutes. Store should have not let us have the bird while it was still bleeding - or at least warn us about it with instructions on what to do. read more
