Only real con I can say is there are a lot of animals packed into a small area, so living conditions can be better. The rodents are obviously being NEGLECTED. The tanks they are in have pee smeared on the glass walls and there is multiple Of them in one small tank. Even the birds are packed into a small rabbit cage, not even the full cage either there is a metal screen separating some of the birds there was 4+ on one side of the cage . I went here to get a beta fish and look around at the animals. The store was Super cluttered and messy, and animals are in horrible condition. Family owned business we have been coming here for years. We get a lot of our aquarium materials, or food, or fish for a saltwater tank here. Small location, but always pretty neat to go inside and see what different types of reptiles, fish, guinea pigs, hamsters, parakeets, or even equipment that they have. I walked in to see about bugs (lizard food) they charge 57c a Nubian roach if you do the math what you get down the way at carters for $10 they are charging $28 and some change. I'm a firm believer of your prices are your prices but when your rude to potential customers as well upon walking in then no point in even owning a business especially if your upselling that much and don't have the proper etiquette to even support a reason why. read more

So I was debating whether to give a 3 or 4 star, I'll explain why. First off, the place itself is not huge, but a decent size. There are LOTS of supplies in there, like lots, and it's relatively cheap compared to even online retailers. I've gone to some of the bigger chain stores locally and there's nothing wrong with them, but price wise Twins Aquarium can't be beat. Not just on the supplies but the animals as well. Sulcata tortoises for $75, where everywhere else they sell for around $169.99. Blue shrimp, 5 for $20, Cherry shrimp $2 each. Just to give some examples...there's a pretty good selection of fish too, depending on what you are looking for. Now because the place is old, and has lots of inventory it is a little run down, but not dirty. I read reviews about the owner and his daughter being rude, I've been there twice now and didn't see it. A little rough maybe...but not rude. All in all, if you know what you want or at least an idea, you shouldn't have a problem. But, it is a small store and if their busy I can see how they won't sit around answering questions. I'd like to start off by saying I do not like to leave a business with a negative review like this but I am inclined to do so after walking in this shop and having seen the conditions of the animals inside. It was the worst pet store I have ever walked into. Their was that typical pet store smell but it was just very packed with little room to walk and their were some flying bugs that flew right into my face. When I left I literally felt disgusted. The majority of fish I saw were sick. The saltwater section was even worse because half the tanks had no lighting so you can't even see the color of the fish or scan to see any visible signs of illness. Now even worse than the fish were the birds. The small cages were packed with so many birds, it made me claustrophobic. At some point one must realize when a habitat is overstocked. Apparently, the store owner has no such ability. If you don't believe me, walk in and take a look for yourself. Look at the conditions the animals are living in (especially the birds). Please do not shop at this establishment. Carters Pet Mart is just down the street (matter of fact its only 8-10 minutes away) and was much more pleasant to walk in to and far more clean. Its similar to a Petco or Petsmart but with a well kept saltwater section housing corals, inverts and saltwater/freshwater fish. As a Bay Area Reefer, there are not enough local stores as is, so the last thing i'd want to do is speak poorly of one, but trust me, this shop needs a major clean up. In conclusion, I went to Stockton in the hopes of finding a new aquarium store, walked out of Twins Aquarium feeling like I needed a shower and went into Carters Pet Mart feeling like the 40 minute trip was not a waste after all. read more

LOVE this place! We're regulars and have been coming here for years. They have the best prices in fish, live aquarium plants, and birds. I haven't bothered to check the prices on reptiles, feeders, hamsters or the other pets. Compared to Randy's Fish Store, the fish here are waaay cheaper. I'm especially fond of guppies. They have a beautiful selection and are only $4 ea for males and $1.50 ea for females. Randy's sells them for $6-8 each!! Live aquarium plants here are huge, healthy, great selection, and again, way cheaper than anywhere else. For a tiny store they're very well stocked. The best part of it is that they treat you like family! They're super kind to my kids and even give them discounts when they're purchasing with their own allowances. Owner is very busy helping others, so if you happen to catch him on a slow day he takes the time to talk to you and help you out a lot more. Though the aquarium may seem like a dirty shack, if you looking beyond the dirty floors and tanks you'll find a large array of fish and other animals. Unlike some other fish stores in Stockton, this fish store is very cheap. For example, the nearby fish store Randy's fish palace (which is also a great fish store) sold cherry shrimp for $6 a pop while this store sold the shrimp at a very cheap $2. I approached "john" which I presumed to be the owner to ask him what his opinion was on my situation since my tank keeps having nitrite spikes when I clean the filters. The selection is not bad for a reefer but everything else must be hell for the animals, it's really humid and stinks like and looks like a poorly maintained cattle farm. On the sidenote please change that faded out store sign and clean those tanks properly, it's like the fish are there to either get bought or die. I must say this is by far the most fun fish store to visit due to the variety of livestock! Always something different and their prices can't be beat. I believe the gentleman that has helped us each time is the owner but not sure. You can tell the animals adore him. They've had a porcupine puffer the last couple visits and I fell in love with him day one. We finally purchased him and expected him to be netted or something to put in the transport bag but instead the man placed his hand in the tank and he swam right into his hand to be lifted out. This is the sweetest little fish with so much personality! He has had zero issues acclimating and began eating the first day! They have a massive selection of foods, substrates, chemicals, decor, everything! Extremely knowledgeable and take the time to help but also don't hover so you can look around as long as you want without feeling pressured. I see the comments about it being dirty but anyone with a lot of birds knows it's inevitable and all the animals are still healthy. The fish quality seems pretty good as well, which is a relief because I doubt there's any guarantee when you don't even get an itemized receipt. It may take a minute to get attention of an employee to help you but you really can't complain because they are quite busy most of the time. A store like this is more for the somewhat experienced fish keeper, if you want basic fish with 30 day guarantees because you don't know how to take care of your fish, go to Petsmart or Petco. While a purple tang elsewhere goes for over a hundred bucks, John, the owner will knock off a few and give it to you for a reasonable $80. The prices are crazy good. Seriously, I will walk out the door with tons of goodies for under $200, Where other places you might get a fish and a few frags for that. I am talking full rock covered bright healthy zoanthids for $30. John is cool. hes busy on the weekend. If you can catch him on a weekday, you will get a more personalized experience. He wont just sell the critter to sell it, if you mention you want a big hermit crab, he will tell you that that said crab will eat up your corals. So don't do it. Anyhow, we like this store ALOT. I know a lot of reviews talk about the smell, which is to be expected in a small pet store that sells a lot of rodents and birds. Their fish selection is awesome and their prices are the lowest I have seen in the greater Sacramento/Roseville/Rocklin area! They have discus for only $25, neon tetras for $1, and porcupine puffers for $30. Most of the tanks were clean and not too many dead fish. The labeling on the tanks definitely could be better though. Also, not that many people were wearing masks, so if you are vulnerable then maybe it's not the best place. Overall I would definitely recommend this place. read more
