What I'd call "modern rustic"; wood and brushed metal and leather couches with a faux fireplace and lots of light from the huge front window which opens wide in warmer weather. I love this place! Delicious drinks and a ton of options. I had a mocha, sometimes these places make drinks too sweet but mine was a nice balance where I could still taste the espresso! They have a wide assortment of pastries, the banana bread is outstanding. The girl at the counter was sweet and very knowledgeable about the coffee. They also whip out drinks very quickly. On a quest to visit smaller local coffee shops I came to this one . It had come recommended from a friend as well. The coffee was very delicious and the worker was very nice. The atmosphere was very cozy and unique. I'm not sure if it was the owner , co-owner, manager , etc. but Dave introduced himself to my partner and I and was extremely nice. He was telling us all about the different coffees they use and he showed us an awesome set up they are creating so they can have some customers eat/drink outside. This coffee shop is a hidden gem and feels more like a place you'd find in the City. The coffee was superb (I found out from the owner that they actually won an award for the coffee) and the banana bread was delicious. The decor is tastefully done - sophisticated yet warm and inviting - with attention to detail that tells you that it was designed to be a truly immersive experience. Seating was very comfortable and makes you want to stay well beyond the time it takes to drink the delicious coffee. There are plenty of charging stations and the speaker system fills the place in a balanced manner wherever you sit. Service was fast, friendly and made me feel welcomed. Overall, highly recommended. My wife and I are both CG residents and both big coffee drinkers. I wouldn't consider myself a "connoisseur", since I often don't distinguish the "delicate specifics" of flavor (in anything), but I know what I like, and Cedar Beans is friggin' GREAT. Their coffee is fantastic. The atmosphere is perfect. The vibe that the business owner, Dave, is gunning for is right-on. I've met Dave at his shop more than once (he's been there almost every time i've stopped in), and he seems like a guy who truly cares not only about the quality of the product he's selling, but also its place within the community. I stopped in one night, and requested "something chocolatey, but sugar free, and decaf." Dave thought about it for a second, offered to make some sort of pour over, and went to work on my cup of coffee like a mad scientist. He legit used beakers and stirrers and other (probably standard coffee artisan) contraptions. Haha - It was really cool to see, and the coffee was spot on. He's also always posting to social media and is very involved in his coffee shop. His staff also knows their stuff, and are all very very friendly. My wife and/or myself stop in to Cedar Beans more than once a week at this point. AND, to top it all off, my wife, who used to be a devout Starbucks fanatic, can no longer STAND the stuff. Great local place! Stopped in with my neighbor early Sunday morning post dog walk when the coffee urge was strong. We were greeted by the owner who took the time to ask if it was our first time in (it was) and where we were from. Just a totally down home, relaxed decor inside and dog friendly seating outside. I've been there a bunch of times, and have been bouncing all around the menu to experiment, and to try everything out - and, so far, I've loved everything that I've had (my favorites are the soy chai latte, and the matcha green tea). The staff is always super-helpful. It's clean, welcoming, they have doughnuts, my kids love it, and it's just a regular treat. Stumbled across Cedar Bean's last weekend while running some errands. Had a great iced coffee. Came back this weekend and had a nitro brew and a cinnamon chip scone (that thing was amazing, should've gotten 2). Saw some nice refillable tumblers on their website, can't wait until they are back in stock to pick one up. Even though there are many chain coffee places within 2 minutes of my house, I'll drive the extra 10 minutes just get good quality coffee and support a local business. Update: Hi Dave, Thank you for your response. I can say that it was definitely not the coconut milk. I've had coconut milk added to cappuccinos at Sweet Kitchen in Montclair and Third Wave Crepe in Nutley along with Starbucks. Sweet Kitchen and Third Wave makes excellent cappuccino with coconut milk. I've also had cappuccinos with regular milk made at various coffee shops. It was either the espresso used or how it was made and not the coconut milk. As far as the chairs, it would be good to have chairs that have cushions on them or something easier to sit on. I was there for about an hour and something. I went outside at first but there were too many cars driving by so couldn't read. I went inside as a result and sat down. Sitting on the chair was definitely not comfortable. Your baristas were very cool!! They definitely provided good service! Original post: I like going to local coffee shops. There's something about going to a mom and pop shop rather than a franchise. I was checking Yelp for new coffee shops in the area and saw this one. I decided to go to it this morning. When I saw that they had the nitro coffee brew, it got me excited. The nitro coffee brew that I got was not good. It had an almost metallic taste to it. I first used the straw but them open the lid. I took three sips and all were bad. I asked for the cappuccino and mentioned that the nitro was really bad. The cappuccino was not good as well. It had a bad to average taste. The customer service was good. I thought it was nice of the baristas to exchange my drink. The decor of the coffee shop reminds me a little bit of The Fine Grind. With that being said, the Fine Grind has better seats than the chairs at Cedar Bean. The chairs at Cedar Bear are very tough to sit in. They do have a couch. As I said, the customer service was good. However, the rest of the place wasn't. With so many coffee shops to choose in the Clifton/Nutley/Montclair area, I would say that they really need to improve upon their coffee. For now, I don't see myself returning to this place. read more

Stumbled upon this place when getting sushi next door about a month ago. Since then i've been back multiple times! The coffee is top notch as well as the friendly staff taking care of the orders. Additionally they also have these caffiene free milkfoam drinks that my wife loves (they are pretty good). Highly reccomend for something thats different (read - better) than the 25 dunkin donuts around the area. read more
