Dry needling has helped my thoracic outlet syndrome and TMJ symptoms SO much. I have seen several dry needle therapists but Cristi is the best one by far. She is incredible at targeting the knots and giving your muscle time to release to the needle keeping the discomfort at a minimum. Active duty Army that relocated to the greater Austin area JUL 2019. Sustained a hip surgery in 2015 eventually resulting in surgery. Due to high workload my hip, and subsequently/posterior chain and back never fully recovered. I couldn't turn my neck would rotating my upper torso. My traps were so tight I felt like I was constantly shrugging. I ran with extreme pain. I was in desperate need of relief by the time moved to TX so I hopped on Yelp and found Cristi. I had my first appointment end of OCT/early NOV. It's now DEC and what a difference! I've had dry needling in CO and AZ so I knew what to expect but Cristi's attention to detail (muscle groups/activation/muscle response) far exceeds dry needling/physical therapy I've received in the past. You are not just receiving dry needling - you're also receiving exercises, stretches, and tips to activate the right muscle groups for every day living and comfort. Since seeing Cristi I'm stronger, hitting higher weight loads and intensities with ease; recovery is greatly reduced; I'm running without pain; and I'm overall just more comfortable executing every day activities. I went here based on the outstanding reviews but I feel I need to share my personal experience. I have been dealing with chronic neck/upper back issues for many years. I have made great progress over the years with physical therapy, dry needling, and nkt. However, I am new(ish) to Austin, and I was feeling set backs with all the chaos/working from home during a pandemic so it was time to find a new trusted professional. Based on the reviews I wasn't too nervous to try out Cristi but I overall I had a very negative experience. I truly hate writing negative reviews but given the experience I had I feel obligated to share. Since I have been through so much recovery with my injury (we're talking barely can move my neck, lift my arms) I was scared she may have done permanent damage after the session. I immediately reached out to my old PT and she confirmed with dry needling the specialist should only be gently finessing the muscles, and paying close attention to how they are reacting. However, this is not what happened during my session. It was hard to process in the moment because I admit I came into this session very tight and I do have a very high pain tolerance but when I got up I knew she went way overboard with the needling. My traps were extremely red and puffy and I was so sore. In the past, I could still move around after a session but it seriously just felt like I got into an accident, which is not how this should feel. The next day I experienced bruising which really shouldn't happen if the PT knows what they are doing. I checked with my previous physical therapist and showed pictures and she confirmed this rarely should happen. I've been waiting to post this review because it took me 2 full weeks to actually feel recovered from this painful experience. Cristi did reach out the week after my appointment to ask how I was doing, which was nice of her. However, she even admitted that she was not seeing my muscles supple throughout the process. I let her know I wish she would have stopped treatment if she wasn't seeing the reaction she normally gets! Based on her reviews I'm glad others didn't have the same experience I had but I can assure what I went through is not how this is supposed to feel. I have been struggling with chronic pain for a while and have gotten sick of western medecine because no one seems to listen. I went in for my first appointment and after a 15 minute evaluation Jess could tell exactly where my pain was. Although the needling is BRUTAL, I have been looking forward to it every week because I have tried everything and this has been one of the few things I have found that really has helped. Most imortantly is the TLC that Cristi and Jess bring. They truly care, take the time to listen, and even communicate with me outside of normal work hours regarding a recovery plan, do/don'ts, and just general well being. 10/10 would recommend to family and friends who have ran into pain/recovery issues. read more

I came to Cristi in hopes of relieving neck, shoulder and upper back pain caused by a combination of a motor vehicle accident, chronic stress, and job-related physical demands. I had literally ropes of muscle knots throughout my entire neck and back that anyone could easily feel in any randomly chosen spot and had tried deep tissue massage, chiropractic care, acupuncture, etc. Dry needling with Cristi has been the most effective - after my last session not only was I pain free but I could not feel any knots when I searched for them! The first time I got dry needling I was skeptical and a little hesitant but Cristi explained everything she was going to do, the benefits and put me at ease while doing it. Since the first time, I've been coming to Cristi and CC Dry Needling for over a year to get all parts of my body worked on. My shoulders, traps, lats, lower back, calves and IT bands. I didn't realize I actually am way more flexible, it's just that my muscles weren't firing properly. I finally have full range of motion in my hurt shoulder and my lower back pain is pretty much gone. Cristi Cuellar is an ANGEL! I have had dry needling in the past and I wasn't particularly enthusiastic about it --- that all changed when I started seeing Cristi. She is highly educated, very intuitive and has an amazing bedside manner. If you've been put off by other PT's in the past, give Cristi a chance. She is unlike any other PT I've ever been to. She has been able to completely restore function to my shoulder with dry needling. This is crucial for me as I am a massage therapist and can't work without it!! When I tell people about her (and I do!) they always ask if needling hurts. Here's what I tell them... the needles themselves don't really "hurt" except for a quick moment when it gets a good spot. The initial "yikes" quickly settles down into a nice "ahhhh" and then when she connects the electrodes it's the most satisfying sensation to have old, stagnant muscle tissue regain bloodflow and oxygenate. I was a tad sore the day after my first treatment, not unlike after a day working out. I've discovered if I get a massage after or go for a cryotherapy session, I don't have any soreness afterwards. If you've been on the fence about dry needling, don't go to just anyone... go see Cristi! She is THE BEST!!! read more
