I recently worked with C Berrys for a catering event for the Husker football team. This was no small feat! Preparing enough BBQ for 200 people is a big ask and C Berrys delivered. The whole crew came in and set up quickly to feed the hungry huskers. In just minutes two large spreads of meat, sides, and salads was laid out. The food itself was outstanding. The brisket was lined with a super flavorful and slightly spicy coating. The ribs were tender and also packed a little heat. Theyre house made sauces like hot and spicy packed a punch on the pulled chicken. The mac and cheese would surely be welcome at any cookout. Just passing thru. Awesome place. Upon entering, LAM gave me a hard time about the look of the place. Not bad but certainly not fancy. That all stopped once we tasted our food. LA got brisket and burnt ends with baked beans and wonderful waffle fries. She liked the bbq but thought the sides were outstanding. I had the Turkey club with Mac n' cheese. Both were great. The best sandwich in downtown Lincoln is the Turkey Bacon Club. I prefer it hot but it's good cold also. The turkey is smoky and juicy and thick cut. Also, the late night breakfast with crispy tots and cheese sauce is the bomb. read more

This place was phenomenal. I had the turkey plate with jalapeño Mac n cheese and mashed potatoes w/gravy. Also had a small cinnamon Carmel ice cream that was perfect bow on the meal. The turkey was some of the best I've ever had. Moist and flavorful with great spiced edges. Jalapeño Mac was crazy good. Just enough spice for that flavor. Great casual small BBQ place right in the thick of Lincoln's Bar Scene. During the day it is my favorite place to get BBQ downtown. They have all the great standards for smoked meat and some nice alternatives for those that want salads etc. At late night they serve after bar food options with eggs etc. The restaurant is cute and farmhouse contemporary inside with a small area for seating. I had the smoked turkey bbq salad. The turkey was moist and flavorful and my friends split a brisket sandwich and it was smoky yummy, smoked perfectly and not greasy at all. They use Piedmontese beef and you can tell! Lots of fun funky sauces to choose from too. Lincoln and visitors, PLEASE support this downtown gem. Have them DoorDash you some goodness if you don't want to mess w downtown. There is a garage a block and a half away and ample street parking during the day. I had an occasion to go to C. Berry's for lunch yesterday and enjoyed it immensely. It was highly recommended by a manager at The Cornhusker that had been very helpful all week I knew it would be at least good. Well, my lunch was great! It turns out they must smoke on Monday and Thursday as they serve burnt ends on Tuesday and Friday (or some such arrangement). Being a big fan I got a sandwich and the meat was well seasoned, almost too salty, and that perfect place where moist, tender, and done come together. C. Berry's doesn't sauce their meet, instead leaving that to the customer. I paired the ends with their jalapeño BBQ sauce, which is great in its own right. It is more spicy than hot, but very flavorful with deep traditional BBQ flavors. I added an order of deep fried green beans and curly fries. While both were very good, the green beans had some peppers in the batter so there was just a little kick to them. The bean itself was still crisp and held its green been flavor. The order came with a little plastic container of vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce. While it wasn't special on its own, it was a great end to a very well prepared lunch. I do have to make one observation. Even though my friends all raved about their sandwiches (briskets all three) I thought they looked rather simply in the meat department. C Berry's has been my BBQ go to for the last few years. I can't believe I've never taken the time to actually write a review. Where to start? For those seeking a quick lunch option, look no further. Obviously their BBQ is great, the cheesy pulled pork sandwich is as good as it gets, but what you might not know about is their burgers. The Bullrider Burger is out of this world good and I don't know anywhere else in downtown Lincoln you can get Piedmontese beef as quickly or at a better value than this. A side of their gooey mac n' cheese makes it perfect. Go on Fridays for a free cup of ice cream! Now on to their breakfast at midnight menu. There is not a single thing not here I don't love. From the Husker Haystack to the BBQ Nachos (also available at lunch) with waffle fries, there's no, I repeat no better way to cap off a Friday or Saturday night than stopping into C Berrys for some late night drunk food. The only complaint I have is that the line can be so long, but that's hardly their fault. Beyond how great I think their food is, I also want to comment on how friendly the staff always are. I've enjoyed some very good food from C Berry's, mostly via their catering. This I may have had higher expectations from the restaurant experience than is warranted. Also, after enjoying ribs from their catering, I was disappointed to find that they do NOT normally sell ribs at the restaurant...which I find odd for a BBQ place. We went for lunch, and were a little surprised at the prices, which seemed just a tad high. Though the food was very well prepared, my Two Meat Plate with two sides seemed overpriced. I ordered double slaw for my two sides, but it was the same size as my girlfriend's single serving of slaw. It was fresh and delicious, but I felt a little ripped off. The same goes for my entrees. The pulled pork and burnt ends were tasty, but I only got two small chunks of pork, about 2 ounces, and 5 pieces of burnt ends, about 7 ounces, which seemed pretty skimpy compared with other establishments in the area. They were friendly and fast, so I'm not ruling out returning. I'd probably be more inclined to save my money and get a sandwich special instead. read more

The guy that wrote the previous review must be a bit daft, as the cash register is in plain sight right when you walk in the door. It's pretty simple.... ORDER, PAY, EAT. I live in the land of BBQ (Kansas City) so of course I'm skeptical of anyone's take which includes smokes meats. I ordered the ham and cheese and I have to report that the smokiness of the ham was perfect and to pair that with pepper jack!! Well, I'm not making a regular old ham and cheese anymore. My friend had the BBQ nachos. I like the quirkiness of this. Meat, cheese, beans, and chips, simple enough but the BBQ aspect of it makes it over the top. Of the three sauces I tried my favorite hands down is the chipolte lime. It has a bite and a smokiness that makes it truly unique. Your probably thinking, cheese at a BBQ place?! I was too, but, it absolutely fits this place and on the way out I spotted a bottle of Sririacha, if I could I'd give this place 4 1/2 stars just for that. Overall, the prices are super reasonable. My sandwich, drink and sweet potato fries came to under $8.00. They also have a punch card toward a free meal. I read these reviews and decided to try this place for a catering I had for an office. This place is one of Lincoln's best kept secrets. It has been here for 4 years and I had trouble finding it. That was the only problem I experienced. The pork and brisket were very, very good...lots of smoked flavor...they are very smooth. The compliments flowed freely in this office. The sides I chose included beans. I naturally thought they would be a good choice but would be like any beans. Well, they aren't. Their formula for these beans is incredible. Very good quality and taste to compliment the meat. The potato salad was blue ribbon good. I highly recommend this place but give yourself extra time for finding it and for finding parking. read more

Open M-F for lunch, plan on visiting early. This place has become so popular the line is out the clock hits noon. Fried pickles and sweet potatoe fries are excellent bit the Jalapeño mac and cheese is the real star side dish. Most meals now average 9.99 with a side and drink so not quite the $8 it was 4 years ago. Still a great lunch and they still have a punch card where your 10th meal is free. They are also open late on Friday and Saturday nights 12am-3am for breakfast and a few bbq items like bbq nachos. Yummmmm. read more

Had my first visit to Lincoln, NE recently to visit a friend and was determined to try as much of the famous Midwestern red meat as possible. Our first stop was C. Berry's. I had the bacon cheeseburger with a side of fried pickles. The bacon cheeseburger was wonderful. The beef is smoked, which gives it an unusual yet addictive flavor for a burger. Everything about the burger was perfect: the thick, slightly peppery bacon, the lettuce, the tomato and bun. The restaurant gives you a choice of three flavors of BBQ sauce and I put mild on mine. The burger is a work of art, but your opinion of it will hinge upon what you think of the smoked quality of the beef. As for the fried pickles, they're perfection. Not greasy, yet crispy and lightly breaded. My only qualm is that I could've eaten a portion twice as big. Other reviews have mentioned that on Fridays, you get a free dessert. Which explains the individual sized portion that each of us got with our meals. It was vanilla ice cream and shortbread cookies covered in caramel. I enjoyed it and liked that it was the perfect size. It's about five bites big. Just ideal for a few nibbles of something sweet after a satisfying meal without leaving you feeling so full that it's like you've just eaten a baby grand piano. I hope to someday get back to Lincoln, NE as it's a wonderful town with amazing food and friendly people. When I do, I'll definitely hit up C. Berry's again. read more

C. Berry's has only been open for a few months and has kept a pretty low profile. It's located directly across from The Bourbon Theater on O St. They are just open for lunch and again at 10pm-3am for what they are calling "late breakfast". The menu offers pulled pork sandwiches served on ciabatta rolls, hamburgers, chili dogs, Mac N Cheese and a daily soup, as well as a variety of side dishes like Sweet Potato Waffle Fries and baked beans. We got the impression the staff was still figuring things out. It wasn't clear where to order or who to speak to first. There's no signage to help guide you around and several groups arrived with the same confused look on their faces. Once our food arrived, it was cold (we both ordered the pulled pork sandwich which was the day's special). I might have thought it was supposed to be a cold sandwich, but besides that being odd for pulled pork, it was luke warm on the bottom. My side dish of mac n cheese was incredibly thick and I think I may have liked it had it been hot. As it was, it was a bit difficult to eat as the cool sauce and macaroni stuck together into a big ball. Despite the problems, we will probably stop back in after a few months to see if they have improved, because the staff seemed friendly and (presumably) the owner let us try some BBQ ribs that were not yet on the menu. The Sweet Potato Waffle fries were definitely the highlight and I'm sure they will be popular with the bar crowd at 2am. read more

I had the big pig. OMG my mouth freaked out and now will not let me eat anything else this week. The big pig is a smoked pulled pork sandwich, with thick bacon, nacho cheese sauce, and fried jalapenos on top. Seriously guys, it was so good I almost cried. My friend had the burndt ends and I got to try one. It was just about the tastiest hunk of meat on the planet. For a side I had jalapeno mac and cheese which tasted like angels made it. It was actually not very hot, as in spicy, and had chunks of corn in it. The flavor was perfect. Not your boxed mac'n'cheese here. Eat this people, best BBQ and Burgers out there. I'd been trying to eat at this place for what feels like years. When they first opened they only had lunch and late night hours. Then it seemed like they were open randomly. Finally, finally they have been open consistently for dinner. So far I've had the BBQ nachos, corn dog, coleslaw, regular mac n' cheese, jalapeno mac n' cheese, and I've been in once for their late night hours and had the french toast sticks. I loved the nachos and the corn dog was the best one I've had in a long time. The batter is perfect. Both the regular and jalapeno mac n' cheese are delicious and I can't recommend them enough. The coleslaw was different from what I suspected. It was very vinegary, but I liked it. The french toast sticks were clearly frozen and then stuck in the fryer, but they hit the spot at 2 a.m. C. C. Berry's is a quirky restaurant full of quirky dishes and has a simple, but great atmosphere. Dish options are scrawled on a chalkboard like only the best kept secrets can be. My girlfriend and I split the bowl of Mac & Cheese with an order of waffle fries which was more than enough for an easy lunch and cost only $5. Another key component of C. Berry's I have yet to try is their Late Night Breakfast menu which features almost any food you could possibly desire when stumbling around downtown at 2am. I've tried the pulled pork sandwich, smoked turkey, swiss mushroom burger, and sweet potato fries. Sandwiches tend to be a tad small for the price but I love the taste, the menu options, and the service. I am impressed with the entire noon hour, weekday staff as they all work as a team and seem to have professional mindset for a fast food place. My only complaint is that it is a very small interior and it can get crowded during the noon hour. (Hence only 4 stars and not 5.) They are very popular and loved. I am now hooked on them. Flavor in the pulled pork sandwich was good and they had a number of very tasty bbq sauces to pair it with. My favorite thing here though were the sweet potato waffle fries. They are bomb!! I've been to C Berry's on a couple of occasions. I've had the opportunity to try the pulled pork, burnt ends, and turkey. I've also had the beans, slaw, and jalapeño Mac and cheese. My turkey was a bit dry without as much smoke as I would like, my pulled pork sandwich was similar, there just wasn't much in the way of bark or rub mixed in and I didn't taste much smoke, though pork was tender and juicy. The burnt ends had nice flavor. The problem was, that they weren't cooked to tenderness the way burnt ends should be. It took considerable effort to pull the meat apart. Another unfortunate thing about C Berry's is their lack of seating. I'm sure that this is a problem many downtown restaurants run into, but it is often hard to find a place to sit down. Fortunately the beans were tasty. Even better, the jalapeño Mac and cheese is the business. I also had a friend order the smoked burger and that looked quite appetizing. You also have to appreciate a lunch spot that offers our servicemen a 50% discount when they come in uniform. Is C Berry's a good BBQ place? Not really, but it is a nice downtown sandwich shop with some decent BBQ options. Certainly worth checking out. read more

I went here for lunch after hearing great things about their pulled pork sandwiches. They had the cheesy pulled pork sandwich on special with a "premium side". The sides include waffle fries, seasoned curlies, Mac & cheese (regular or jalapeño) strawberries, or a few other selections. I went with the waffle fries, which were great but there were only about 4 fries. The sandwich was divine. The cheese was smooth and melted, and with the addition of the sauce, I chose a combo of Citrus Chipotle and Mild BBQ, it was the perfect pulled pork sandwich. Not to mention the bun was ciabatta, which accented the pork really well. Almost every item on the menu appealed to me, including the breakfast served until 3am! I had lunch here today and had the pulled pork sandwich with jalapeño mac & cheese. The meat was very tender and loose and there was plenty of sauces to choose from. The hot & spicy barbecue was an excellent choice; not so spicy that you can't taste the flavor. I ordered the mac & cheese based on a suggestion and the fact that having it as a side to be unusual. It was great, from their unique recipe I'm sure! If you frequent this place, ask for a punch card to get free meals!
