This review is for the restaurant and it's all day menu. We sat in a dark room at a round table by ourselves with no music. The outdoor tables with a view were full, so that's why we were seated indoors. The crab cakes, salmon BLT, mock tail and hazel nut dessert were good however the steak sandwich was tough and I wish I had not ordered it. The two types of fries were hard and cold, nothing to write home about there. The food was okay but nothing that knocked my socks off. The bill for three people was $188. which for what we were served was way too much. Frankly I think the meal for 3 people was only worth maybe $70. including taxes and tip. For our 10th wedding anniversary, I wanted to surprise my wife with this awesome room with the amazing view of Golden Gate Bridge. I used Expedia and paid $990/night -- yes, expensive but our 10th wedding anniversary -- for that amazing room. My wife deserves it. (Plus, we haven't gone anywhere this year due to COVID-19.) 1) When we arrived to check in, it was not clear where we could park. We looped round twice; while my wife was waiting in the car, I got out, and walked into the registration. On the way I ran into a valet guy named Brit, who was very kind. He told me parking depends on which room you get (which turned out be true), and where we parked temporarily for registration was good. The counter guy was also very nice; more than helpful; poured a glass of wine for my wife, and told me the room number 504 in building 605. He circled it for me on their map. So far so good. We drove to building 605; the keys would not work; we parked; I walked around; could not find room 504; called the front desk; Carlston kindly told me he would send Brit to meet me. Brit arrived, and told me the room 504 is in a different building, and led us to the right building. Brit carried our luggage upstairs to room 504. Very helpful. We tipped him thus. Okay. Some errors. But they were corrected. Everyone was nice. No problem. 2). We arrived at Room 504, that's when the real problem began. Again, I paid $994 for one night, so that I could surprise her with an awesome view of the Golden Gate Bridge. When we walked into Room 504, no view of Golden Gate Bridge. There was a view of other buildings. We called the front desk person, who 'explained' the way it showed up on their end (on their 'computer') from Expedia was that I chose the view of 'other properties.' Really? I would choose the most expensive option for that hotel in Expedia, and would pay $994 for one night to look at other properties? She said she would have someone call me, and Carlston (the same guy) called me quickly. The same story -- it showed up on their end that I chose to the view of other properties for $994/night. "Tell me Carlston -- what is the normal rate for this room 504 with the view of other properites?" Carlston would not answer. The agreement we reached was that I would cancel the whole reservation via Expedia, and Carlston would refund. I cancelled within one hour; Expedia said Cavallo Lodge Point would still charge me $945 for cancellation fee. At this point, no, I am giving up on you guys, Cavallo Point Lodge. I already disputed the charge through Chase Reserve, and I am write these reviews. I understand I may not be giving enough time to Carlston to process the refund. Please understand you have also caused great inconvenience on our wedding anniversary by 'double-booking' for that one room advertised on the website, and giving us that moldy room overlooking other properties. Whether it's Cavallo Point Lodge or Expedia, this was a shady practice. (FYI, I've been using Expedia for years and have had no problem.) This is dishonest. Bait-and-switch. read more

Some great views of the Golden Gate bridge plus a beautiful and huge green lawn on which to frolic. I guess I was hoping or expecting a Four Seasons/St. Regis equivalent, but I don't think they hit that mark. My room had a good view, but didn't feel all that premium (they don't even stock the minibar). The bathroom had a shower/tub combo that had a high tub wall (they have a wood step to help you get in and out). They gym facility is buried in a small building and looked minimal. The single biggest drawback of staying here is the fog horn. If there is fog (which was both the nights I stayed here) you'll need to use the provided ear plugs to soften the super loud fog horn sound. A loud horn doesn't go hand-in-hand with a relaxing oasis. On the positive side, they did do a solid job orchestrating a smooth and fun wedding for my good friend. read more

We had our engagement photo shoot and our wedding here..so we HAVE to love it! Cavallo Point has one of the BEST views of the Golden Gate Bridge and also the San Francisco skyline. The grounds are well maintained (historic military grounds) and the service is top notch without being invasive. My favorite things about the property: 1. The View 2. The Spa (well appointed, not to big or too small) and Tea Bar 3. Chairs Everywhere - Rocking chairs on porches and adirondack chairs on the lawns - plenty of places to sit 4. Firepits - great at night 5. The Chapel - yoga in the am 6. Gift Shop - many handmade San Francisco items (not tacky) 7. Wine - great by the fire and large selection (close to wine country after all) The food was good (not 5 star but a solid 4), and the staff was very accommodating (5 star). There is a Cooking School on-site and we hope to try it in the future. When considering a room, the contemporary rooms with Golden Gate Views are the best! We had a very nice birthday weekend here. The staff went out of their way to take care of us. I would recommend getting a treatment at the spa. The facility is gorgeous!!! Plus you can use the pool, hot tub and sauna. We loved the history hike and yoga (Free) And we were shown some cool areas to hike around the Golden Gate Bridge. ​We recommend this resort 100% . This is my home away from home, even though our home e is 10 Minutes away. You'll see me on the front porch having a glass of Sancerre, popcorn with rosemary and enjoying the fabulous view. We've been going since they opened. For Christmas dinner at Murray Circle to weekly brunch to random lunches at the Farley bar. NEVER do we have a bad experience. They are kind. Provided phenomenal el food. Are always accommodating. If you haven't been, please go. Spend the afternoon. Play backgammon while having a glass of wine. Walk the property. Book a weekend get away and stay in one of the general's houses. Check out their mercantile. Take a cooking lesson. Book an event. I've done them all, many a time. I could go on and on. I will start with the positive: this is a stunning hotel in an exquisite location. The valet man out front was so cheerful-- he kicked off our stay in such a bright way with his positive energy. He helped my elderly mother into the car while she had her hands full and it's the little touches like those that go a long way. I wish I remembered his name! We got lost on the way to our room and a very kind staff member in a golf cart took the time to lead us to our room. We appreciated that as well! Our waiter at dinner (Farley) was also just so charismatic, warm, accommodating. Answered all of our questions, got me gluten free bread, all with such a friendly attitude. One staff member was so sweet about taking photos of my mother and I, and conversing with her some shared background. The hostesses were also really nice about us wanting to switch to a table outside once it became available. By the way-- STUNNING restaurant and insane view. The food was also to die for. Loved the ahi tuna poke so much. Also awesome that they have heaters outside. Spa was nice except didn't have time for any treatments, but loved the facilities. Here's where it gets a bit rough :( -The woman checking us in was not friendly at all. Blunt, rude. Kind of talked to us like she didn't want to be there or thought we were stupid? It was so shocking and strange. I wouldn't expect such shoddy customer service from an establishment like this and I feel so bad typing this review and don't want to get her in trouble but dang. Check-in is a time to make the guest feel welcome and we felt like a burden. We had to prompt her and ask about things like WiFi, dinner, etc. There is supposed to be complimentary wine and she just did not offer it to us. She was helpful in some ways. But not really. -Kind of weird that no one showed us to our room or helped with bags. We got lost, it's a confusing property. And, our room was up a flight of stairs with no elevator. I'm a smaller woman and my mom is elderly... but oh well. We got up fine and then loved the room. -When trying to find our room, we did ask one person who was unhelpful and clearly did not know the property at all... and actually directed us the wrong way which wasted us a whole bunch of time. Not his fault, maybe his first day? But tough. -So as mentioned above, we loved everything about dinner. Until the end. We arrived at Farley around 5:20 and at first sat inside while we waited for a table outside to open up. We ordered a drink, put in an order for food, and then the lovely waiter and hostesses helped us move outside when a table opened up. They gave us the option of a bench, or an adorable 2 person table with the best view. We took the table! Best view in the house, we were stoked! There was a little plaque that said "reserved" on it and I even pointed it out and the staff said "you're fine don't worry about it" so we sat. That was at 5:43 pm. I know because I have timestamps from the photos I took. We enjoyed our meal leisurely, since we had no where to be after dinner. At around 7, the manager (I think?) who was a well-dressed, seemingly nice lady came to our table and informed us that they typically only do seatings for about 2 hours and we'd need to wrap up because a party had the table reserved at 7:15. We thought "Hmmm ok we haven't been sitting for 2 hours but fair enough-- we were lucky to get this table" and finished our food and got the check as soon as possible. By the time we got the check and paid, it was 7:15. The manager came by again and we were like "ok message received" and we immediately got up and left. We didn't think much of it because we know how restaurants at prime time work, and I used to be hostess once too. Timing is tricky. As we were leaving, we heard the manager tell a party waiting in the lobby "we are so sorry for the delay-- we had some 'campers' at your table and they refused to leave despite us kindly asking them". Are you kidding me??? She for sure knew we could hear too, we walked right past her. So so incredibly rude. Gosh the tone in which she said it will just stick with me forever. Why did you seat us at that table if it was such a big deal to keep it reserved for these 2 guests at 7:15 sharp??? And we did leave as soon as they asked us to, despite it not being even 2 hours?? I was horrified. My jaw dropped. My mom was horrified. Never ever have we experienced something SO rude. I just can't believe it. I understand the manager needed to placate the other guests who were probably being fussy about their table but to just insult us like that, knowing we could hear??? Completely inexcusable. So from that experience and the check-in and a few other snafus... I am just unimpressed with this hospitality and service. Lovely rooms, nice view, some nice people. But not worth it to shell out this kind of money to be treated so awfully. Not coming again, wouldn't recommend staying here. read more

Wow... this place rocks! The sis and I spent NYE here and it was perfect. By far the mellowest NYE I've celebrated in a long time... No drama... good food... good company... good service... good view to watch the fireworks across the bay! The sis got the two bedroom historic suites... it was perfect for us. We ordered our dinner and breakfast here as well... I forgot what I ate (I blame the champagne on this!) but I do remember it being delicious for a "hotel" dinner. They are dog friendly and that really helped my sis out so that my nephew Jameson (chocolate lab) and Abbie (rottweiler) were able to join us with the festivities! I hate giving a one star review but my experience at this hotel last weekend was an absolute disaster. My girlfriend and I decided to get away for the weekend and stay at Cavallo Point when we arrived the accommodations were OK and the service was marginal at best. On a specific incident after going out to dinner we returns to our room only to find that our key would not work. I tried calling the front desk but the line was busy and no one would answer. They simply told me to leave a message on the answering machine so she hate across the grass field and went to the front desk for a replacement key. She then returned to the room and the key did not work again. So I got to my car and drove to the front desk demanding that somebody please help us as we had been locked out of our room for a good 45 minutes. They assured me that they would send engineering to the room and fix the problem and issue me another key just in case they wouldn't get there in time. As I was walking to my car security ran after me and demanded that I show them my ID because they thought I was breaking into the room or something rather. I show them ID and they said thank you. Once arriving to the room for the third time the key did not work and we ended up waiting there outside the door for another 30 minutes while we waited for engineering to come and fix the door. When they finally showed up it took them a good 20 minutes to fix the door lock and this whole experience completely ruined our night and made for the worse. read more

We had the crispy trout and the pork chop. Both are on the point delicious and crispy means exactly that. Not burned or crispy and getting wet. Just really yumm crispy. Also the pork was as it should be. The starters (potato leak soup more on a boring blend side but technically ok. The black garlic tamales are outstanding) where also good. An wine menu with over 100 pages leave you not thirsty at all. Then we had desserts and they where all good. Really all, since we had them all! No kidding :) So if you around and like a fine dining and also able to spend a bit more on to small portions (but that may me a chubby saying. My husband was well satisfied with the size of the portions :-)) then you have to stop here. Of course the surrounding is pretty awesome too Go here you will not be disappointed! read more

Every few months, my wife and I get away for a weekend retreat. In September '08, we chose to stay at the Cavallo Point Lodge which opened for business only two months prior, on the grounds of Fort Baker, at the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge. After a busy day visiting the newly re-opened Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, we crossed the bridge and checked in for our two night stay. The Lodge is managed by a private hotelier, but is still owned by the National Parks Service, to insure that the integrity of the grounds and buildings will never be compromised. The main area rings the old parade grounds of Fort Baker. The expansive lawn extends from the old Administration Building nearly to the edge of the bay with panoramic sweeping vistas of the east bay, Treasure Island, the San Francisco Bay Bridge, Alcatraz Island, the City and the Golden Gate Bridge. The grand one and two story bungalows have all been completely refurbished with historical integrity. We reserved a one-bedroom unit. The decor was warm and inviting, the furniture post-war, a ceiling fan and the beds ... oh my gosh! They were "DIVINE!" All linens, towels and face cloths were of the highest grade. Two heavy terry cloth robes come with each room and can be purchased if you want them. Our bathroom was spotless and large enough for a small dance party for two. Ours had a shower and a tub, an overhead heat light and a separate room for the toilet stall. Each room also has a small safe for the storage of valuables. Each of the bungalows surrounding the parade grounds has an enclosed porch with comfortable chairs and windows that open to let in the fresh sea breezes. Oversized white Adirondack chairs dot the front lawns of the bungalows, all overlooking San Francisco Bay. Since we live in the north bay, we tend to know the weather patterns and by spending time in the City in September/October/November, you are apt to have great weather. Our visit was no exception. The weather was incredible. By 9:00 pm, the temperature was a balmy 70 degrees! As the sun set and the jeweled city began to sparkle across the bay, we ordered pizza from our favorite Sausalito haunt, Dario's, and sat on our front lawn, in the Adirondack chairs, eating pizza, enjoying wine and drinking in the classic atmosphere that still pervades the air. read more

Stayed here for 4 nights with my husband who was on business in SF. Very disappointed overall by our stay. Now, to be fair, COVID makes travel more challenging, but regardless of the modifications, this place didn't deliver on customer service AT ALL. Certainly did not support the prices that we paid for our stay. We stayed in one of the officers homes. I really appreciate that they tried to keep with the historical motif but overall the room did not feel well kept. The blinds were broken (an easy $30 fix at Home Depot), stains all over the carpets, linens that did not appear clean. The restaurant's customer service was just horrible. Food was edible but the wait staff was not at the level you'd expect for this type of hotel. We ate at the restaurant a total of four times (both breakfast and lunch) and each time I left feeling annoyed I just have them another few hundred dollars. Unfortunately, this hotel will continue to get business and price gouge because of its novelty, rich history, and location. It is a shame they can't deliver on the rest of the experience. I will be happy to give another hotel our money in the future. read more

We recently returned from a few nights at Cavallo Point and it is one a one of a kind hotel, luxurious but not stuffy. Set on what use to be Fort Baker, they have done a beautiful job in restoring the historic buildings. The two main buildings house the reception area, a gift shop, Farley Bar and Murray Circle restaurant. Up on the hill you will find buildings that are modern and contemporary with stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Each room offers a private balcony or patio, fireplace and sitting area. The historic rooms are down on the main property and offer a lot of architectural elements, shared patios and sun rooms. From the moment we checked in the valet, bell staff, and front desk staff was really friendly, helpful and accommodating. We were in a room up on the hill, where there is no self-parking, so the bell staff loaded our luggage onto a golf cart type vehicle. Drove us to our room, lugged the bags up to the second floor, set them up for us, gave us an overview on the room. He showed us how to use the fireplace, TV, safe and fridge. We walked back down the hill to the welcome wine reception, snagged a glass of red wine and made ourselves comfortable on the porch of the reception building in wooden rockers and watched the bay and city, it was stunning. On property you will find Farley Bar which offers wine, beer, cocktails and a nice menu of bar food, but elevated. Murray Circle restaurant is their fine dining option for dinner, and they also serve breakfast and lunch. The hotel offers a shuttle into Sausalito which will drop you at the ferry terminal and you can easily walk the town from the drop spot, or take the ferry across to San Francisco for a day in the city. If you want to forgo the city, and are more of an outdoor person, there are some nice hikes right from the property. You can also walk to the Golden Gate Bridge from the property and then up to do the bridge walk. Just a short distance from the hotel, you can drive through a historic one lane bridge and over to the Marin Headlands where there is more hiking, historic bunkers a great little visitors center. The spa on property is beautiful. Set among trees, it is peaceful and relaxing. Guests can use the pool at the spa, you can order food to be delivered to the spa and a few short steps from the spa is a nice fitness center. The spa staff was fantastic and helpful. If you are a foodie, check their schedule as they have a beautiful and modern culinary center where they offer cooking classes. The property is very pet friendly, so if you have allergies, request a room that is pet free. While pricey, it is well worth the stay. read more

Fraudulent, ridiculous billing. Disputed for weeks over a $250 charge they couldn't account for. The spa assured me I could try on clothes from their store in my room, then when they didn't fit, they flat out refused to refund my card. I had to spend hundreds of dollars on alternate items I didn't want or need. The restaurant was good, but super slow, took 45min to get a steak because it had to "rest". The spa session ended 10min early, because the masseuse was "done". There's no question that the location is stunning, but as a San Francisco native, I'd never, EVER stay here again and I deeply regret bringing my hubby here for his bday. Skip this WAY overpriced hotel, and instead support the adorable adjacent yacht club dive bar "Travis Marina Bar & Grill". read more

This review is based on our experience attending a wedding on site (did not stay at this hotel). The grounds are immaculately maintained, with some nice views of the Golden Gate Bridge. I was a bit disappointed since I thought the bridge view would be completely unobstructed (from the lodges), but there was a hill / trees that blocked the view. Since the wedding ceremony was held on higher ground, it was nice to see the view from that perspective. We also had some light drinks and appetizers at the cafe/restaurant at the lodge, with some outdoor seating available for small parties. We ordered the following: (1) charcuterie plate (half size) to share amongst 4 people (2) prosecco (3) guacamole & pita chips (4) another alcoholic drink **** The cocktail hour was held near the restaurant, outside of the ballroom. I really wanted to like this place. We stayed here to celebrate an occasion and booked several nights. After we arrived, we noticed our room was littered with cobwebs and some of the webs even had black widows in them. We told the front desk we were leaving after seeing the condition of the room in spite of my SO's fear of spiders. They offered a refund plus a free night stay in the future to give them another chance. Several months later, we return and what do you know? Cobwebs in every corner of the room yet again. Very frustrating... we called the front desk and told them we were returning from a horrible experience last time, and that we were headed out to dinner anyways, so if someone could come clean the cobwebs, we'd forget about it. Return from dinner to find that the cleaners had turned down the bed, but not a single cobweb was cleaned. Black widow spiders visible in webs two feet from our pillows. We called the front desk, furious, and were told someone would come out to clean. A maintenance worker did come and remove the webs, but was not able to kill spiders, as they hide immediately when you disturb their web. We ended up staying the night and deciding to leave the next morning expecting a gesture from the hotel staff to make up for this huge failure at their second chance. We packed our bags, checked out, and not a word was heard from the manager. Surely, we gave ample chances to this place to get it together and were let down several times. We have crossed this one off our list for good. After our first terrible experience, we went to "Inn above tide" in Sausalito, and we were blown away with the hospitality we were given there. Even though we had no reservations and showed up at 8pm, they were able to accommodate us and even offered a hefty discount after hearing about our experience. read more

5 stars location 3 stars for customer service We enjoyed our stay here at cavallo point. The location and views were everything. It was a perfect staycation with the fam being literally across the way from the discovery museum and scenic hiking trails. The restaurant was impressive and the grounds was really nice. Our daughter really enjoyed the kids corner and the complimentary kite (perfect location for kite flying bc of the breeze and wind from the golden gate). Our room had the most amazing view. We couldn't get over how gorgeous it was. We took full advantage ordering room service and enjoyed the views from our balcony and window. Loved the daybed as we were all able to fit in the nook. We enjoyed our morning coffee there, my daughter colored and played games there and it was a peaceful area to reflect and unwind with a glass of wine. The room itself was spacious. Only caveat was the nespressso machine did not work. We didn't bother calling the front desk as there was conmplimentary coffee and pastries in the morning. The complimentary Wine reception b/t 4-6pm was also a nice touch. I got to enjoy a glass while sitting on the rocker in the front porch of the lobby while hubby flew kite with our daughter. Now on to the customer service. I called ahead of time to ask them to let us know when our room would be ready since we were next door at the discovery museum. The lady mention it would prob be ready in the next 1-2 hours. So we went to lunch in downtown and hung out. 2 hours pass, no call. We finally check in right at 4pm and front desk girl tells my husband his cc is declined. Seriously? Don't think so. So he ends up using a dif card after being humiliated. Then we wait outside with our luggage. Mind u we have a toddler and an infant and we are just standing and waiting. The guy that was suppose to help us ends up helping another lady (who was by herself). Finally a nice gentleman named brit? Looked like the bellman approaches us and gets a golf cart to take us to our room. They did not ask us the occasion for our stay. We were in our room for turn down service, but usually they would ask if we need water and offer us chocolates or what not. This did not happen. Valet though we're very quick and efficient when we needed them on 2 occasions, once to get my charger and second for when we checked out. The afternoon of check out we had a guy come and helped us take our belongings to the lobby where our car was waiting for us. My husband planned to go to lobby to check out but the guy insisted he will just have them email us. That never happened. 2 days later my husband calls them to get a copy of our bill (bc we wanted to verify some charges on the credit card) again we did not get an email. 4 days later I decide to call them and they tell me it's bc they didn't have our email?!! And that she would email it to me right now after I had to give her my email address. This is now a week later as I'm writing this and still no email. At this point I'm over it. We were suppose to get a $50 credit. We ordered room service once and ate at the restaurant. I don't know what the break down was and at this point I don't care bc I'm not going to waste my time calling them again for the 3rd time. For what they charge this place is really in need of repair paint chipping and cracking everywhere birds nesting in the eaves and seagull poops all over the windows and the wood in our particular place looks like it had not been varnished or shined in years. More cobwebs than I've seen in years and the poor potted plants s on the porch was 1/2 dead. The lawn was 1/2 dead full of weed s and gopher holes, no grab bar in shower probably a violation of law. Just looking like an old relative nobody cares about anymore. The takeaway pizza took 3 hours!! We guess they figure they get their money from the view but you got to do better than that. If Cavallo Point was slightly more affordable, I would be here every weekend. Cavallo Point offers excellent service, an incredibly relaxing environment, and oustanding amenities. We stayed here for my fiancé's 30th birthday evening and used Chase Sapphire, which got us an extra upgrade and a credit to the restaurant for dinner. I'd highly recommend reserving through this platform, even if you have to pay a bit more, because the upgrade is worth it! We made the mistake of leaving the property to bike into town and instantly regretted it. Being from San Francisco, Cavallo Point feels like you're 100 miles away in Big Sur. Gorgeous location, pleasant rooms, fabulous spa. However, the hotel needs to very clearly state that there is no AC. I planned a staycation during this week's crazy heat wave to get a little relief, only to show up in my room and see just a ceiling fan. I called the front desk who then informed me that because it was historical, there was no AC. They offered another fan and suggested I open the windows. Unfortunately I would have been more comfortable at home. I understand and appreciate the Eco friendly status of the hotel but staying here in the middle of a heat wave with no AC was very uncomfortable and super expensive for what I paid. I am incredibly disappointed and woke up tired from being hot last night. Even though I opened the windows there was no breeze and the room did not cool down enough. 1 star for the hotel staff member who around 1pm, took my number and told me she would let me know when my room would be ready in about 30-60 minutes. She did not contact me. 5 stars for the spa where I was able to get a wonderful facial while I waited for the notification that never came. I checked in at 5 o'clock after my facial. It's not the most expensive for a hotel of this price range, but don't stay here when it's hot if you want your money's worth! read more

I loved our stay at Cavallo. To start, I wanted to plan a quick staycation to recharge before the holidays. Seeing as the place is a bit pricey, I found a deal where if you book a month out you get 30% or so. In addition, I was able to book the golden gate view, which everyone raves about. Ta dah... We are here! Super convenient to SF and Sausalito. This place is so quiet, you would literally forget you are so close to so much movement given the tourist and museum. For a second, my boyfriend and I looked at each other and had a "Get Out" moment. But all silliness aside, left to your own adventures is our style. The service was great, helpful and warm greeting. Our room was ready when we arrive a hour earlier. Dog friendly grounds, $100 dog fee. The dog bed was a bit wet on the side when we got it delivered to the room, which was unfortunate. Made up by the dog welcome bag- green potty bags, bully stick, cookie treats. Dog bowls. The room itself was smaller than I expected from pictures. I also wonder if you can state which building you'd prefer to book because I'd say the middle bldg. has the better view. We were in the 3rd bldg., corner room which was great. I never heard a guest the whole time there. We had a great view, somewhat blocked by a tree but no biggie. We were steps from the chapel that host complimentary morning yoga at 8:30am. The room has a beautiful open look, with a balcony and open windows. Tub bath with amazing smelling products- I love essential oils. Cute little robes and slippers to lounge. In addition to your our Keurig but morning pastries/coffee in reception if you prefer. 4-6pm wine hour :) We weren't able to attend a cooking class and didn't have reservations to the restaurant, so opted to dine at the bar. We sat outside which has spacious couches, heated lamps and they provide you with blankets too. So cozy. The food was great, we have dessert delivered to the room. Overall wonderful service. You are left completely alone to wander and enjoy yourself. I would absolutely return and would love to plan a weekend with family in the cottages. read more

I had a girls weekend with my sister at Cavallo Point in Sausalito. We were first greeted by our concierge Rick who was so helpful is scheduling all our activities and giving us all the pointers. We had a wonderful time, from the SPA, to the bar for drinks, dinner at Murray Circle Restaurant and the cooking school. I would definitely recommend this hotel to all my friends and family. Review is for Easter Brunch ($160pp). We splurge on nice Easter Brunch every year and this was the most disappointing we've been to in the Bay Area. Would recommend going elsewhere for the price- e.g. Ritz Half Moon Bay or a Four Seasons. Food was mediocre, coffee was self-serve and not much of any table service, there was only a few stations, and it was set in a ballroom that didn't have the nice views that the other Cavallo Point restaurants have. Very kid friendly which is a plus but will go elsewhere next year. read more

There is absolutely no way this is even close to a four star hotel. Upon checking in the person was so interested in trying to get me to upgrade my room that she told me nothing about the accommodations, restaurant, or amenities. There was nothing in the room that mentioned them either. There is no air conditioning, no fan unless you request, no ice in the building you have to call or go get from in the reception building. There is no cleaning of the room for multiple day stays unless you requested it which you wouldn't know because they don't mention it. The room has a funky smell and is very dark. The front desk staff did not seem to know the area well and could not recommend restaurants or sites that we might want to visit. Their was our 42nd anniversary and while we always have a great time together the accommodations were not the nice getaway we had planned. read more

$750 per night.. ok got it, location location location... right at base of Golden Gate Bridge... they have shuttle service to Sausalito - great.. oh wait, they're too busy right now... Want in-room coffee maker - no... go to desk and basically told we don't know where to look for it... really - you hide it.. no.. no you're wrong never in room to begin with. Want privacy in bathroom while taking care of your business.. nope, not here... blinds are destroyed so the nation can just look right in (see photos). They fix the blinds.. and leave some of the broken slats out on the ledge... classy move! Room was nice spacious. Check in mostly smooth. Restaurant... well good food, but if you want them to pour the $250 bottle of wine you just bought.. lol that will be extra... kidding, but after the first taste, never poured another drop... no pour the wine, no tip on the wine... Oh forgot if you're allergic to certain foods, they serve it to you anyway... nor do they list full ingredients... this literally happened on each of our two times at the restaurant... they do not list all ingredients on the menu seriously.... Bed was just ok, not a fan of the pillows... room too hot even with windows open as appears the heat is registered from outside the rooms... these are older rooms (nicely refurbished) but still with the older radiator style heaters. Oh if you want your room serviced after being gone all day... guess you'll just have to call front desk and request service. ***In reply to your comments Brendan*** Wow Brendan... seems thou protest too much... but let's break it down. 1. Your front desk lied to you about the coffee maker... my wife was pissed but since we were leaving for breakfast, it didn't matter at that point.. but glad you find that ok...we left for breakfast and upon our return magically, there was a coffee maker in the room - miraculous... 2. As for the shuttle, do you think we just made this up? What the heck! 3. There were multiple pieces of the blinds left on the ledge.. I will post the additional photos.. It's amazing that you are here justifying your broken equipment; YOUR STAFF SHOULD HAVE NOTIFIED YOU AS TO THE BROKEN BLINDS, NOT YOUR GUESTS. We get mistakes happen, but seems too many in your case. 4 As for the restaurant... going smoothly after for the rest of the evening... We only told the manager Stephan at the end of our meal first about serving my wife nuts in desert when we clearly advised the server before the meal as to her nut and shellfish allergies... It was only then we told Stephan about the poor wine service.. We left there was no more service thereafter.. you are being sold a bill of goods my friend. Yes we received complimentary food items the next time in, but so too did we once again experience a food allergy item when we were served a different plate than ordered, only to find out that THE DISH WE ORDERED HAD SHRIMP IN IT.... Again what the heck Brendan, you think complimentary dishes absolve plating food that someone is allergic to... my wife has to carry an EpiPen; this could have had devastating affects! WHY DOESN'T YOUR MENU LIST ALL INGREDIENTS!!! The service our last night however, was much better... SANS THE SHRIMP! WE DID DISCLOSE OUR ALLERGIES TO YOUR STAFF AND YOU SERVED IT ANYWAY... PLEASE FULLY DISCLOSE YOUR MENU INGREDIENTS! 5. Finally, you send me a message asking me to contact your assistant for follow up.. wow... just like your shuttle, you're too busy to address your guest's needs directly... PS.. we've heard too many locals while not having stayed on property, commented to us similarly about your restaurant... We've now stayed at Cavallo Point hotel a few times. Unfortunately, our last visit wasn't the best. Despite having requested a room that had a decent view weeks before our arrival, we ended up with a disappointing back-of-house view to their restaurant. Not very pleasant. One thing that we love to do is sit out on the deck of our room, enjoy the view (normally) and have a few glasses of wine. Here, if you're not lucky, you can get a very nice room with a horrible view and still pay the same as someone that just shows up and randomly that gets a great view. All we saw was garbage being taken out, employees smoking and the noise of bottles being recycled late at night. The "modern" remodeled rooms are far better aesthetically then the outdated "historic" rooms but you take a gamble with the view when you choose that category. Overall, it's a very nice place place to stay. The grounds are lovely and the spa is nice but they don't offer enough outdoor seating around the pool. There were only 8 chairs around the pool during the time of our stay. All were occupied for hours so we had to sit down below the pool near the building which was also a bummer. When you would go up to the pool for a dip, there was no good place to put your things. You also then felt like you were invading the space of the lucky 8 people sitting around "their" pool. read more

OK so I used to love this hotel and every time that I've gone back there it seems to get worse and worse. I have spent around 25 nights there in total.... costing me right around $15,000( average between $500-$800 per night) not including room service and amount I have spent at there spa. First started going to this hotel long ago when it first opened and loved it! Amenities in the room have also declined as well as the integrity of the buildings. They used to have a Bose in the room for a radio: Bluetooth for music. Now there is nothing except food a tv. The bathtubs do not hold water, so really expect no more than a shower. I booked a bridge view.... mistake. Save yourself the money and don't bother. The trees have since grown and what was once a bridge view room is nothing more than a little tiny glimps of the bridge if you duck , bend down and lean to the left.... maybe. I couldn't see it though unless I walked out of the room about 30 feet away. The restaurant has become " too busy to accommodate any substitution or request" When I asked for my Brussels sprouts to be crispy I was informed that it couldn't be done . I asked for clarity as to why they. Could not even accommodate such a simple request ... to extremely disappointed when I heard the reason.... " the Brussels can't be crispy because they have been PRECOOKED , we are just too busy" WOW PRECOOKED, unacceptable, this restaurant is no longer a place i I can recommend any longer. read more

Found this place on a fluke when we were just in town from Las Vegas. The four seasons were out of massages and we wanted to find a wonderful spa and boy sure we did. From the staff to the food to everything was unbelievable. Amazing! We will be back for sure in May for my birthday. read more

Badly managed and rude attitude from staff at restaurant. Called ahead to go in and have lunch and the phone recording says walk ins only and no reservations. We go in and the hostess says they're booked for the day but that we can have a drink on the picnic tables all while having a zero care for customers attitude. We get a drink and it's $17 for less than a fourth of a cup with a huge ice cube. Will not be back! Definitely better places to go spend our money on. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed at Cavallo Point this past weekend but I am not sure if we will return again. We stayed in a contemporary king suite with views of the Golden Gate Bridge. The room itself was definitely spacious but the service at Cavallo Point took away from our experience. We arrived around 3:00 PM at Cavallo Point and upon check-in, we were told our room was not yet ready but that the front desk would call us no later than 4:00 PM, when the lodge's check-in time was. We had to return to the front desk ourselves because we never received a phone call. Following, our luggage was just sitting outside near the valet desk, out in the open, since 3:00 PM. When we finally checked in and decided to just fetch our items from the bellman luggage cart, we noticed that no one was there to watch over our possessions/even noticed when we were grabbing the items. When we finally got to our room, we noticed that our room was set up as if we were bringing a dog. My boyfriend and I were originally going to bring a pet that we were dogsitting so I had e-mailed Cavallo Point to inform them to set up the room accordingly. However, they never responded to my e-mail. I called Cavallo Point the week before my stay to let them know to disregard my e-mail because the dog was no longer going to be joining us. The staff over the phone informed me that there were no notes regarding a pet attached to my reservation to begin with so that this would not be a problem. Yet, this happened. And so, we left Cavallo Point after a one night stay and the spa called us at 2:00 PM to ask us where we were because we had a couple's spa appointment. Again, this spa appointment was cancelled two weeks before our trip and the cancellation confirmation was sent by the hotel to my e-mail as well. Thankfully, there is just one last thing to talk about. We forgot an item in our room and called the hotel to see if they can mail it to us. I was told that Cavallo Point will give us a call to update us on the status of that item since they were not sure if housekeeping made it to our room yet. The day has gone by and I am still waiting by the phone. Either they forgot to call me or housekeeping is leaving the task of cleaning that room for tomorrow. For a lodge that is supposed to be so highly regarded, I expected more professionalism. Let's not even talk about how it takes forever for the phones to be picked up when you call into the front desk. If you are lucky, they will answer the phone. Overall, I would not recommend this location for travelers looking to stay at luxurious hotels. On a positive note, it is a beautiful area to bring pets and family. I just wish the service was up to par because the room itself was peaceful and roomy. read more

I had a lovely, peaceful stay here over the 2021 holidays. I live in San Francisco, was not traveling for the holidays this year, and wanted to do something different. I had always wanted to stay at Cavallo Point, since others had said it was beautiful. It is. The grounds are serene, with lots of walking paths and a green, easy walk into downtown Sausalito--or you can rent electric bikes from the hotel to bicycle into town (or elsewhere), but I walked. The food at the hotel restaurant was wonderful. The outdoor seating had standing heaters for each table, keeping us warm. Room service was fast. I stayed in a classic room, which was large and included a sofa and desk, separate from the bed. It was nice to spread out. Next time, I'll try the contemporary rooms, since I know those look more modern and face the Golden Gate Bridge. But my city view was lovely. Everyone I encountered on the property was smiling and friendly. And the spa services were wonderful. Before my treatment, I sat in the heated outdoor pool. Afterward, I sat in the hot tub. Both were warm and relaxing. There's something really special about this place. read more

**Hotel only review. Read before booking. We booked a two night stay and by 3am I had already decided I was checking out as soon as I woke up.** *The worst part is this was our 17 year anniversary trip and I had gone back and forth from this hotel to the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay. I wanted to try something new and this hotel had a strong Yelp rating. I now see a lot of the stars are for the restaurant and bar, not the hotel.* I am writing this review to help others be better informed when deciding on staying at this hotel. I hope to give information that I didn't have because the hotel doesn't offer it. When you book this hotel you are solely paying for the view. It's definitely an amazing view, a five star view. However, everything else on this property (apart from the restaurant which I didn't use so therefore I cannot rate) is at a two to three star hotel value, far from a $625 a night value. The main source of disappoint with this hotel was the lack A/C in any of the rooms. I feel like this should be on the website. A/C is a basic amenity for any hotel that considers itself a luxury property. If you don't provide this to your guests, you should inform them in advance. I'm not complaining about the heat. The weather was beautiful and the temperature was bearable. However, to maintain that level of temperature comfort we had to sleep with the windows open which resulted in a very restless night. I woke up at least once every hour due to some noise going on outside. First it was one car alarm, then it was another car alarm. Then it was some loud popping (like fireworks) that went on at 1am for an hour. Then it was the little cars that the employees drive around, then at 5:30 in the morning it was barking dogs. The other source of disappoint with this hotel was the beds; the horrible, uncomfortable beds. Defiantly not on par with the other luxury resort hotel that I've stayed at. The most basic request I have of any hotel, is a good night sleep. If they can't provide that, especially at a $625 a night hotel, what am I paying for? (Side note- not every room has an amazing view which then means you are just paying for an incredibly crappy room). I'm not even going to go on about the super tiny pool and the horrible service I received from the receptionists at the spa, or how the front desk isn't as informed as they should be. I've already wasted too much time and money on this place. The employees at the mercantile and valet are incredibly nice. The cooking school upstairs is fabulous. But it's all just sparkle to distract you from the fact that this hotel is three stars at best. read more
