This healthy fast casual restaurant close to Tenleytown metro station has improved so much since I was here last few weeks ago. I was particularly happy to see that the harissa dressing is creamy once more (it was very dry and grainy for awhile). The service was friendly, fast, and efficient. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available. This is now one of my favorite Cava locations in the area. read more

Maybe you are catching me on a healthy break/phase but I'm absolutely loving the healthy salad bowls at CAVA. I like the large portion size and flavor of the veggies and meats. I got the half grain/half salad which was enough for two generous meals. I've been a huge Roti fan for a long time but it's good to see some competition. What gave it the edge was the harissa topping and that spicy/tangy harissa green dressing. I love the pickled onions and all the fresh veggies. Definitely will be on my list for healthy options in the DC area. read more

I stopped in CAVA on Roswell Rd to pickup a salad. The customer service was outstanding. Because I didn't know they didn't accept cash and the cashier had already taken my payment, the Manager comp my salad and returned my cash. How awesome is that? Cava is easily my fave go-to lunch spot in Tenleytown. I work in the area so it's a super convenient 7-minute walk from the office. I would describe Cava as a fresh tasting and wholesome dining option among a sea of greasy and unhealthy fast food. Their menu is perfectly sized...enough to find something you'll like but not too many so as to overwhelm. I really don't bother with variety...I order a splendid greens and lentils grain bowl EVERY TIME. Some might say my order is monotonous and uninspired. I'd suggest those same folks try it and tell me they wouldn't enjoy it again and again and again. Crowds can be tough...especially on a beautiful day when American University is in session. I order via Cava's super convenient app which allows me to walk in and out with my order in a matter of seconds. Customer service is top notch. I am a big fan of Cava. Think of it as a Greek style Chipotle with the assembly line concept. This location is a little unique from the Bethesda location. It has three different salad choices so if you are a salad person, this location is better. It is also bigger and has a nice patio area for outdoor seating. In addition, the harissa (one of the best dips) is now a dressing! I have mixed feelings about this because the dressing is not as spicy as the dip. By no means does this deter me though! Must try dips here include the hummus, crazy feta and tzitzaki. For your dressing (works well on both salad and rice bowls), I recommend the spicy harissa. The grilled chicken is my favorite meat topping but the lamb is also delicious. All this on top of a half salad/half rice bowl with pita on the side and its heaven! The good thing about the Tenleytown location (as oppose to Bethesda) is the parking availability. It's usually easy to find a spot on the street. It is also a 5 minute walk from the metro which is quite convenient. read more

I didn't become familiar with Cava Mezze Grill until I started my new job. Every time someone tried to describe Cava to me, it was always "It's like......Chipotle, but with Greek food." I was a little apprehensive at first, because I didn't fully understand the description. But, girl. Honey. Darling.Let me tell you. Cava does not disappoint. Everything on the menu is just so tasty! The pitas, the super greens, the rice bowl--everything! My favorite meal is the rice bowl with spicy lamb meatballs, it has so much flavor but it's not packed with too much sodium. Before I became hooked on the lamb, I would always get the chicken or falafel, both choices are equally as satisfying--you can not go wrong. Since I work close to this location, my coworkers and I go here for lunch A LOT (...they may or may not know our names and orders?..), so we usually order online and go over and pick up our food which is so convenient and super helpful on our busy days. There have been a few instances where we've ordered our food online and it wasn't ready at the specified time, but the Cava staff were overly apologetic and offered a complimentary drink for each of the orders. It's rare that Cava isn't absolutely on point, but if they ever do drop the ball, they have no problem apologizing and making sure everything is up to par before you leave. Come on, customer service! This location is right in Tenleytown and can get suuuper busy, but the staff does an amazing job of accommodating everyone while keeping the line moving. The most I've ever had to wait to order here was 10 minutes max, even during lunch time. I've never seen this location look dirty or have anything out of place, every time I go I notice that there is always adequate amounts of cutlery (both plastic and silver), napkins, and straws. I frequent this place at least twice a week, and have never been disappointed with any aspect of my meal. I recommend! read more

I went to this place on Wednesday in DC because I was seeking a salad to go with my recent healthy change in diet trying to shed my holiday muffin top, however I hate salad! I went here and I found such a variety of options, baskets full of varieties of different greens, many vegetarian options to add as well as meats. I built my custom salad and it was so good I am eager to go back to a closer location tomorrow!!! Look in the pics, I posted a photo! The banana peppers sealed the deal!!! Service and food are on that rock star level. Waiting on the family to arrive, I decided to hang out on the deck. Ah, the breeze and city sounds took me away and made the wait so peaceful. My guess is that this deck can get packed. Today it was just me and another enjoying the beautiful weather. So they arrived, and, uh, yeah, first visitors must look obvious. We just stood in front of the wall sized menu and gazed. Luckily, the server noticed our apparent rokieness and asked if this was our first time. Yes I replied...Captain obvious. And he went on to explain everything. Once he was done, it was easy to decide. Thanks for that. I may have just rolled out to avoid the embarrassment. Nah, I would have figured something out. But good lookin. I ordered the Pita with chicken, super salad, quinoa, tomato and onion, red pepper humus and tzatziki sauce. It was very fresh. It hit the spot. I would rather a little more seasoning on my chicken but it had plenty of flavor. My son ordered the mini pita with eh red pepper humus, quinoa, tzatziki sauce, tomato and onion, tomato and cucumber and brazed lamb. This was very moist and delicious. I often have cravings for not just Mediterranean but specifically form Cava. If you want a quick customizable chipotle style fresh Mediterranean bowl, this is the place. I've visited at least 4 times and each time it has always left me satisfied. The food is fresh. The menu on the wall establishes where the produce and meat are from. Also, the written menu uses abbreviations to identify if the prepared options have gluten or dairy. My new favorite combo is 1/2 brown rice and arugula bowl and a combo of meats typically with the braised lamb. I also get at least 2 scoops of crazy feta. Ambiance inside is fresh clean and relaxing. The customer service is not consistent. During busy time I have had great friendly service. But I have also experienced employees with attitude during off hours. Overall I love the concept and I can't wait for more Cava's to open up. read more

They offer Greek food, including lots of food that is gluten free (they have it listed very clearly on their website) in a fast food, chipotle like format. You go through the line, ordering food that is added to your rice bowl (or other options) as you go. Everything tastes very fresh and the meal is always filling. If you need food fast, this is a great option. My one complaint is they don't have great lamb. I love a good, classic lamb gyro and their braised lamb just doesn't cut it, I always have to resort to chicken. My review would definitely be four/five stars with some improved (gluten free) protein choices. read more

Last week, I ordered delivery from the cava website. The order went through and my credit card was charged BUT the food never arrived. I called the H Street store to inquire but I was told that my order was picked up by "their delivery partner" so there was nothing they could do. I was instructed to request a refund from corporate via the website. Yes, they told me to talk to their corporate people about my missing salads. As told, I sent a messages via website but no one responded. I followed up three days later via the website again but still no response. I visited the store in person and was told to send an email using hello@cava.com. Getting in touch with anyone who can help has been an amazingly difficult task. Online customer service is nonexistent. Almost two weeks later, I have not been able to reach a real person in corporate. Frustrated, I reach out to Cava via their Facebook page. The bot said someone from Customer Experience would reach out that day... No one emailed or called. I have not been able to talk to anyone who can help, aside from the store manager who was powerless. I simply want a full refund for the order. Service online varies. But this is unreal. read more

Cava was great and I can't wait to go back! Its conveniently located about 7 minutes from the Tenleytown metro. There is outdoor seating, which I unfortunately couldn't take advantage of my first time here since it was pouring! The inside decor is minimalistic and rustic. The booths are big and the tables are spaced enough where you don't have to squeeze by strangers to sit. I was able to have a super filling meal for around $9! I ordered the rice bowl with chicken, and tried a bunch of the sauces - the crazy feta and spicy harissa were my favorites. My only qualms with the bowl were that they barely gave any meat, and I was confused by the options for the sauces. You can get a blob of sauce before you pick your meat as well as a drizzle of dressing Immediately afterwards. So I ended up having a lot of flavors (which was awesome) but I don't think that's the intention. Regardless, I really liked my bowl and will definitely return to this location for a meal! read more

A legendary DC hotspot! I absolutely love Cava! Love their chicken greens and grains bowl! When I eat at Cava, I don't feel guilty about eating out because they have a lot of healthy options. I didn't know I had a love for Mediterranean food until I moved to DC! This is a great place to grab food to go, a great lunch spot, dinner spot, date spot or a place to have some alone time as well! My husband will be outraged that I didn't give five stars because he is in love with Cava Mezze. I liked it a lot too but felt sick the next morning. Hopefully it was unrelated. Other reasoning for three stars would be the fact that I think the abundance of sauces and toppings is a little overwhelming. But the food was good and fresh - love the pickled onions and Harissa (spicy chili paste and quite possibly the reason I didn't love it the next day). This is Chipotle, Mediterranean style. I had a bowl which came with rice and I chose chicken for my topping. The rice was very good but I wasn't a fan of the chicken. Seemed overcooked and under-seasoned to me. As for toppings, I loved the finely diced cucumbers, the tomato and onion salad, and especially the pickled onions. The crazy feta was good as was the hummus. Overall, my initial opinion was mixed but good for the most part. I'll definitely try again! Writing this review from California because I miss this place and can't wait to go back to the area to eat cava again. this is usually my first and last meal every time I leave and come back from DC. The food is always fresh and the combos you can do never leave you unsatisfied or bored. Unlike chipotle or a lot of other fast casual restaurants, cava gives you so many more options to play with! Pro tip: get half salad half rice and you will get a mini pita on the side!! You can also do halfsies with your protein! This place also doesn't leave you feeling guilty after you eat it too!! I had a craving for a good hearty salad. I looked for restaurants near me and came up with CAVA. I made sure to figure out what I wanted before heading there. To get in and out quickly.Well because we're all social distancing I had to wait outside only 2 people at a time , which is fine with me, I was grateful to have a healthy food option. However, when I finally got inside after waiting, the servers didn't seem all to thrilled to have a paying customer. I waited for about 5 minutes before I was acknowledged. 2 people were working behind the counter but neither one greeted me , or asked what I wanted , or even said I had to wait. Both people appeared to be closing up shop and or taking on line orders. A couple even walked in and picked up there order for pickup, but I stood there waiting patiently. Finally the server who just finished taking out their garbage asked another employee if I had been helped and she finally got my order started. She was pleasant and helpful. I just wished the other people were a little more mindful of customer service norms and common courtesy because the food is good, but the poor service is enough to make me not return. I can't say enough good things about CAVA - and every time I've visited this location, it's a been a well-oiled machine. I've been here through the lunch rush, dinner rush, and off-peak times- and each time it has impressed me. This is the perfect quick lunch option. It'll get you in and out in less than 30 minutes - and it will fill you up without weighing you down. You'll leave feeling refreshed and ready for the afternoon ahead rather than groggy and ready for a nap like so many heavy lunches make you feel. I recommend taking a look at the menu before you head in. It works as an assembly line (a la Chipotle) and especially at rush hours, you don't want to slow the rhythm. Choose from a salad (lots of lettuce option), grain bowl (rices), salad + grain (my favorite!), or pita (or two mini pitas). Then three of the following dips/spreads: eggplant + red pepper dip, tzatziki, harissa, crazy feta, roasted red pepper, & hummus. You choose one protein (falafel, grilled chicken, grilled meatballs, braised beef, braised lamb, roasted seasonal veges). Top it all off with UNLIMITED toppings and sauces (think olives, onions, romaine, etc.). There are so many variations - you can't get bored. I rarely order drinks at restaurants but the custom drinks here are top-notch. I usually treat myself to one. Highly recommend trying this place out! Since CAVA opened in its Tenleytown location on Wisconsin Avenue, it has been a constant go-to for my family and, apparently, many others in our corner of the world. The ingredients used to make salads, rice bowls, and wraps cannot be beat for healthfulness and local sourcing; the fact that one can create one's own meal each time also adds to the appeal of eating there. Last but not least, for the quality you get, the price is unbeatable. In the years since we've been going to this CAVA location, we notice there has been quite a bit of turnover in staff but one constant has been that the young workers at this location have all been uniformly friendly and competent. It's healthy FAST food and, as crowded as it goes, the lines always move. At the start of the restaurant's operations, it was possible to express our appreciation by leaving a gratuity; now, apparently that isn't possible so all a grateful consumer can do is give a shout out to those cheerful, incredibly upbeat folks working the line at CAVA. They are great and I'm sure the job is frequently NOT fun. Thanks for having such a great attitude toward the many hungry, sometimes impatient customers you serve. read more

Cava is one of my favorite modern fast food restaurants...and this location never lets me down! This location always provides quick and courteous service. Be aware of the street parking signs so as not to get a ticket, especially during rush hour. If you're not sure about the parking signs and want to be safe, park around the corner on one of the side streets. read more

I meant to write this review over a month ago but I placed an online pickup order for the wrong Cava (Bethesda). I ended up going to the Tenleytown cava looking for my order and quickly realized that I had made the mistake. I was prepared to walk out when the manager stopped me, asking me what I had ordered. She had my food prepared for me their and called the other Cava to inform them that I had picked up my food. It was truly a relief and an example of exceptional customer service. We just ate at the Cava in Birkdale Village in Huntersville, NC. The food was very tasty we really liked all the toppings and sauces. The flavors really popped! My husband is a very picky eater and I was afraid he wouldn't like it but he said it was really good and would like to come again. They had seating indoors and of course, carry out too. Rude employees not helpful. I called to order and it is not allowed you have to order online. I asked if I come in to place an order I get it now? I tried on line at 5:15 for 6:15 pickup but I waited to place order and then the pickup time went to 7;00. So I called and didn't place my order. My friend went in order the same order. People rude no one in the restaurant. She was rang up and it was .53 cents more when she asked they said it's cheaper to order online. So I now noticed the order was placed and I was charged for food that was not picked up. Because my friend reordered and paid for our pickup order. I want to be credited back. And someone needs to train employees how to be friendly and learn what customer service. They don't deserve a star. I will NOT promote this restaurant. read more

Good company, and a solid location. Been eating at Cava 2+ per month for about 6 years now, mostly in NW DC but also sometimes in MD or NoVA. Always been pretty happy with the food and experience. The staff at this location generally do a good job. Food has always been ready on time for takeout, and pretty fresh. Food itself almost always quite good, sometimes a bit of it can be mediocre, perhaps sitting out too long, if I pick up dinner on the late side, shortly before they close for the night. A few staff members can be a little difficult or a bit unpleasant, occasionally, but it's not something I've noticed consistently and it's never a major issue. Overall, it's a good establishment and I plan on continuing to get dinner there sometimes. Cookies r also quite good, as is the side of pita chips + hummus. read more

I have been to 2 CAVA locations several times in the past year. I appreciate the freshness and quality of the vegetables. Most of the time I order the same bowl. My preference is the lentils and avocado bowl. The price is different and the portions are getting less and less in the bowl. If they are going to increase the price at least keep the serving size above the half mark of the bowl. Also communicating with the staff some time is difficult and they appear to be rushing people through the line. Whatever happened to good customer service!! read more

I was charged $10.31 for half a scoop of chicken and when you ask for dressing - the rude woman at the cashier squirted very little. We love CAVA, nevertheless, the one at Tenley in NW WDC manages to diminish the entire experience. Starting with the horrible personnel nasty attitude towards clients, none of them smile nor say welcome all they muster out their "pocket faces" is what da' ya want! Really? Then when you're a selecting the items the ones doing look extremely bother by doing their jobs. Very unwelcoming and lacking customer service. Then it is the outdoor seating, tables are filthy and wanly to the point you have to hold your drink on one hand because the table by any move of someone's arm warbles all the drinks to the point of spilling heavily. Very sad conditions there, they should take some advise or check out one of the most busiest CAVAs in the area, DuPont Circle, they're always pleasant and the place is clean. read more
