This is the third location of Cava I've eaten at (not on purpose but now that might be a fun goal to accomplish) and this is my favorite so far. The food is delicious as usual. If you have not yet heard about Cava, it really is like a Mediterranean Chipotle. It's set up assembly line style. You go up to the counter, choose your base (bowl, pita, salad) choose your meat/protein, choose your sauces, and then your toppings. Each time I've gone, I've ordered the bowl (I really wanted their rice the first time and fell in love). Then I do a meat/falafel combo, tzaziki, hummus, then change up my toppings. I really like their cucumber salad that I add to the bowl. Service is quick, depending if there is a line but the staff move quickly. The place is clean and simple. Everything is fresh, and they partner with local farmers too. You can feel good about yourself and the wonderful food you put into your body. They even infuse their water with either lemons or cucumbers. (I can't remember, so I apologize in advance). A not so novel concept that Cava has definitely embraced. We walked in, and it seemed like a Greek version of Chipoltle, but healthier. I ordered the salad with chicken/falafel and the bf ordered a pita. The best part, unlimited extra toppings!!! I tried about 80% of them, and they were all fantastic. The price point was amazing, we were both completely full, and didn't feel sick (like I would at chipolte) after. The most astounding part was the customer service-- as the soda machine was not working until after we were more than half way through our meal. One of the employees came by and gave my bf his next meal free due to the soda machine issue. This was extremely unexpected and added another star to my already 5 star review. I hope Cava opens up more of these "Fast Cava" type places, as it's the great Cava food in a faster, better price point experience. It's Greek chipotle! It's fresh and delicious. The fresh mint was impressive. Service is great. I tried the falafel bowl and it was pretty tastey. Any Cava newbies should check out the menu prior to going on a busy weekday lunch. The menu can be overwhelming, and it helps to limit to dirty looks from the Cava regulars who have their order down pat. That being said, generally, everyone is nice from the employees to the other patrons. This is a crowded place with a line out the door at times, but people are courteous not to take a table before they order or dawdle too long while others are trying to scope out a place to sit. For the food, I never get the same thing twice, but I'm also never disappointed. The Spicy Lamb is just spicy enough to pique the senses without being scorching. The Braised lamb is juicy and good on bowls or as a messy pita. The Crazy Feta is delicious and lends a kick that I tend to counteract with the yogurty goodness of Tzatziki sauce. As a fan of Mediterranean food I was trilled to hear that Cava was opening near my work. I've visited here a few times since they opened and I can say that I'm very happy with the place. For starters the food is awesome, completely customizable, and loaded with flavor. Whether you get pita or a salad you won't be disappointed with the taste that makes your tongue say "WOW!" The pitas are warm and fresh, the greens are packed with tasty notes and the hummus is killer. I love the mixture of flavors so when I go I get everything on my salad. To make things better they have some really great drink options that they change up on a regular basis. I'm a big fan of the Watermelon Mint juice. One thing that I struggle with at this place is the menu and process for ordering/creating your meal. After a few times going through the process I have a better idea how to handle it, but I can see where this would be confusing to first time visitors. The menus are not on big boards, but instead on a pamphlet that is not always in the best location, which is also not easily identifiable. The staff does an okay job explaining it to you, but If you add in the fact that people are waiting behind you, they seem rushed and you just feel like your annoying everyone with your lack of knowledge on the process. I know deep down that this process can be improved and I hope they'll make work to make it better. The interior design is cool and has a similar feel to a Chipotle with a industrial bushed steel and wood crossover look. Most of the seating is comfortable and they keep the place pretty clean. The overall ambiance is pleasant and I get a good vibe when I'm here. The Cava App is a great way to pay and make progress towards discounts and freebies, so make sure you download it and add your payment card to the app. I saved $3 on my first use of it, so free money is a win for me. Recently discovered Cava and like many have stated it is like Chipotle with a Mediterranean twist. I've been there 4 or 5 times in the last few weeks and have not experienced some of the bad service mentioned in previous reviews about this location, but I have not been there during lunch. It hasn't been incredibly busy either so that may be why. Overall, I love the concept and how fresh the food taste. I typically order a bowl of greens and grains with supergreens, brown rice, and lentils. I would agree that the portion size is smaller than Chipotle but since I can rarely finish a bowl at Chipotle without feeling way too full that's not a big deal to me. For meat options I have gone with the beef, I have found that the meat is tender and not dried or overcook. Spreads - Crazy Feta, Harissa (which is spicy) and Tzatziki Toppings - Tomatoes and Onion, Cabbage, Feta With a Lemon Herb Tahini on top. read more

Now here is a special place, and my favorite fast-casual-spot. This is the only one true place that's healthy, tasty, and is very affordable to eat on a regular basis. No, chipotle does not meet those requirements. The cheese, sour cream, and sodium actually packs a lot of fat and brings you closer to a stroke if you eat there too often. What Cava Mezze does here is you can actually pick a salad, with "super greens." What super greens is, is a combination of very healthy vegetables. Other places will use standard greens, like iceberg with has no nutrition value, or romaine lettuce, which has some, but isn't a "super green". Super green has mesculin salad, broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, and other stuff considered very healthy for you. To take these super greens and make them actually taste good, is very hard to do, they are generally a more bitter type vegetable. This place nails it on the head. With the spreads and sauces, all not cream-based or fatty mind you, make this meal very edible and very delicious. The meats are also really good (I got the spit-fire roasted gyro) and I came away feeling good. This place is not only tasty, but very healthy for you too. Okay guys, I've completely changed my mind about this place. I came by for lunch again, and while this place was packed, the line moved quickly and smoothly. The customer service was much improved! I got a bowl with chicken, filled it up with 3 spreads (that's the limit) and many toppings and two sauces. It resulted in a wonderful combination of flavors, and all of the ingredients were made well today. The seasonings were well-balanced. I especially enjoyed the red pepper hummus! I suppose my last visit caught the Grill crew on an off day. This most recent visit was the total opposite. Other diners were happily eating their food. My friend got the braised beef, and he enjoyed it quite a bit. Bottom line: if you're looking for a well-sized meal in a casual atmosphere, try this place out. Seating is limited, especially for groups, but you can always eat elsewhere on the Mosaic grounds. I usually get a rice bowl with chicken. All the meats are good but the price does change based on the meat. The dish in its entirety is a tad sour, but I think that is typical for Greek cuisine. Think of this place as the Greek Chipotle. Most people who come here, come again and again and again. I recommend paying with the LevelUp app--you start off with a small credit and gain 10% back in store credit. First time visiting this spot and I was spinning in circles with the menu. Choose a base (pita, bowl, lettuce, etc). Then your meat (the lamb is killer). And then choose THREE sides (hummus, tzatziki, spicy tomato, etc). They come in small scoops so pick a few. And then you choose from a list of toppings. And finally finish with a dressing. I've been to Cava in Clarendon and Capitol Hill multiple times and have to say that Cava (the mothership) is one of my favorite restaurants in DC when I'm not dining on my company's dime. When I heard we were getting a Cava in the Merrifield area, I was thrilled. I waited in salivating anticipation of red wine, spicy lamb meatballs, chicken souvlaki, and more. Finally, I heard my coworkers talking about having just had lunch at Cava and was happy that it had opened. I had planned a late dinner prior to seeing a show at the Angelika theatre across the street and figured I would sit at the bar with a glass of wine and a couple tapas in the hour I had to kill. I parked outside and sauntered over to the door. As I approached, I stopped and assumed I walked past the joint. Obviously I was stepping into SweetGreens or Taylor Gourmet. It was bright inside, and people were ordering at the counter, and their was a soda machine inside... worse, there was no bar. I checked the sign overhead and the logo in the door to confirm I was in the right place... sure enough, Cava Mezze Grill. I quickly deduced this was not the Cava I knew, but some sort of Chipotle-esque offshoot. Yes, my bubble had burst, but I had nowhere else to go. I stepped inside and surveyed the surroundings. Indeed this was exactly like Chipotle. You step up to a counter and tell the first person if you want a pita (burrito size), a bowl (for the carb-conscious -- extra rice please), or a 'mini' (taco size). Instead of tortillas, they have pitas. Instead of carnitas, barbacoa, or Tex-Mex meats, they have spicy lamb meatballs, gyro meat, chicken souvlaki, and more. Instead of sour cream and guac, they have their Cava brand spreads including tzatziki sauce, harrissa, and others. Instead of cheddar-jack, they have feta. Plus they have a variety of veggies for toppings that you would find in Greek cuisine: onions, olives, tomatoes, etc. I went for a pita with a half-and-half mix of gyro meat and chicken, harrissa, rice, and feta. It was a fine sandwich, but rather expensive for the size. On a second visit, I decided upon a side order of chips. These were somewhat bland as they were simply thinner pita crisps. This has to be one of my FAVORITE salad restaurants. The concept is similar to that of chipotle. You enter a assembly line where you start with a bowl of either rice, greens, or pita bread and then a couple scoops of some dip (tzaziki, hummus, eggplant, etc) add toppings of meat (grilled chicken, braised lamb, meatballs, falafel for vegetarians, etc), a variety of vegetables and then a dressing (sriracha mayo, etc). I love that the food choices are relatively healthy and the food is packed with flavor. I usually opt for salad with falafel, tzaziki sauce , hummus and quinoa, and the sriracha mayo! Between the restaurant changing its offerings - I saw beets today, those were new - and cooks just preparing things differently from day to day, you're never sure what mix you're going to get. I love this concept for this type of food. Very similar to Chipotle, but with Mediterranean influence. I love that you can have great Mediterranean food within minutes. You have the options of having a bowl, pita, mini's or salad. There are variety of spreads, hummus, tzatziki, crazy feta etc. As for protein they have many options, chicken, lamb, grilled meat balls. To top it all off you have so many different components to add to your meal lettuce, feta cheese, cucumbers, fresh mint, etc. I just feel that it has something for everyone. What was nice about our experience was the fact that we went fairly early when they had just opened. We ordered chips with our order and they were still baking, so we were able to get fresh chips...it was still warm. How cool is that. This was my first visit here and as soon as I walked in, I told the employee who greeted me that I had no idea what to do. He was very friendly and very helpful on how to order. It's an assembly line and you need to start with ordering a salad, rice bowl, or half and half. I ordered the half and half. Chose chicken as my protein item and chose so many different toppings and sauces. By the end, it looked like a masterpiece. And boy did it taste really good! I also ordered a watermelon mint drink which was good but a bit tart. Overall, I had a nice experience but if I had to say one negative thing, it would be the portion of my bowl. The enjoyed the flavors of the food, but felt the portions were small. I had a salad with beef and some other vegetable toppings. I was a huge fan of the spicy harissa; it really had great heat and flavor. For the price I didn't fee that the portions were all that big or satisfying. My husband got his meal as a wrap and it was pretty small or maybe we just didn't select enough toppings. Which brings me to my complaint below. My biggest complaint was the staff. It was our first time here, we were juggling 2 small children, and there was no one behind us in line, still the girl behind the counter seemed to be trying to push us through as fast as possible rather than explaining what things were. I felt like i missed out on a lot of the toppings because she rushed us so much. I was never a really big fan of cava but recently a switch turned on and now I am literally obsessed. The food here is sooooo good! This place also has that Chipotle style but for Mediterranean food. I always get the bowl with rice and either braised beef or the falafel. Not only am I not a fan of meat, but I'm extremely picky with how my meat is cooked and marinated. With that being said, the braised beef here is sooooo good! It's cooked thoroughly but its still tender at the same time. I usually get all the different kinds of veggies (except olives) but what really gives your cava bowl that extra kick are the pickled cabbage. I don't know what it is, but it really blends well with the food and adds a burst of flavor. At the very end I always get the white sauce which also enhances the flavor. read more

It was my first time eating here today in the new location and I must say that this place is definitely going to bloom! I would say that Cava Mezze Grill is similar to a Mediterranean Chipotle. I'm always nervous when trying falafels from different places because not many restaurants can pull off a delicious falafel but Cava really does it well! I am staying over at the Hyatt House for a month for work and have found this GEM.... I absolutely love this place. It puts Chipotle to shame. You cannot go wrong with anything you order...
