Very happening place! Food is good and service was excellent despite our large party. There's a cool bar area and T-shirt's can be purchased. This is a southern style restaurant so its mostly fried options; however, there are a few grilled choices. My fiancé and I shared an entree. I'm not a huge chicken fried steak gal but it was really good. The sides we got were mashed potatoes and grilled zucchini. I had lunch with a buddy here today for the first time. We were immediately greeted at the door with a smile and seated. The atmosphere fits the name. It's a rustic, cowboy cafe, tastefully decorated with cattle brands burned into the walls, western art, vintage town photos of Coleman, and the Rodeo Channel on tv. Bathrooms were super clean and continued with the western theme. The food was delicious. I had quite possibly the best burger I've ever eaten: a 12oz in house ground beef patty with Swiss, American, and mushrooms with all the trimmings. It came accompanied by a hefty portion of homemade fries just like Mama would make. The menu had an impressive array of seafood (blackened, grilled, and fried), steaks, calf fries, burgers, home-style entrees and desserts (try the pecan cobbler!!). The establishment serves a great variety of beers, and they have a full bar, with a lengthy cocktail menu. Service was wonderful from every employee we encountered. Cattle Drive Cafe is located in Coleman Texas on their main road downtown. Many good places to eat here. Atmosphere: Very large dining area split into several different rooms of an old downtown building. For some reason on the day we visited it was about 55° inside the restaurant. There were a couple of tables with blankets over their laps and EVERY table had people wearing coats or heavy jackets. It was a very mild day outside, so I don't know what the need for the low temperature, AND all the fans were blowing. Their was no explanation from staff on why it was so cold. 0.5 Stars Service: Other than the cold, the waitress was very nice and attentive. We were sat almost immediately when we arrived and the place was hopping. Food was served fairly quickly. 1.5 Stars Food: We had some fried pickles and their famous onion rings. Both were quite good. Wife had the small cheeseburger and said it was good. Daughter had the chicken fried chicken which she said was very good. Gravy was nice and peppery. My son went with the special of the day which was a rather surprising dish of chicken parmesan. it was huge. He managed to get about of it down before packing it up to eat later. I had the fried catfish which comes in nugget form and quite good. Everything got cold very quickly because of the room temperature but it all came out hot. 1.5 Stars Overall: all of the food was quite good with large portions. Many dishes could easily be split between two people. Hopefully our temperature fiasco was just an anomaly and it won't be that way next time we go. Fantastic meal in every way! A quick drive from Abilene and we were treated to great food and excellent customer service. A rare combo these days. We had the steak fingers and chicken fried steak. Both were excellent. The CFS was fork tender and great flavor. My wife loved the steak fingers. They had a special on peach cobbler that day. My wife brought it home it was yummy! It was only 2 bucks!!! What a deal!! Our server was Andrea and she was AWESOME! She had a great spirit and obviously loves her job and Coleman. She told us about other things to do in town. We did get concerned when we were seated that perhaps we weren't in anyones section - it was just that our waitress was tied up at another place. Food was good - probably the best burger my son and I have had in a long time. Once she got going, she was on top of things with great service. We stopped in for lunch to try their burger. We were greeted and seated with - Quick friendly service. We ordered a cheese burger and home cut fries. The food came out for the kitchen and the burger was nice and tasty. Not over cooked, not a huge patty but big enough. The fries, egads, came out cold. Nothing worse than cold fries. We mentioned it to the staff and we were promptly told "don't suffer":) and they very quickly brought us out a fresh serving of nice hot fries, with no fuss and many apologies. It much appreciated and because of the service and tasty food, we will be back. Not to mention we want to give the very quaint bar in the back a try. I've been holding out on my 900th review. Do I max out my credit card and go eat at the French Laundry in Cali? $1200 steak in Japan? Searching online I found a taco salad shaped like a Stetson! So, I headed to Coleman, Texas to check out Cattle Drive Cafe. Brought some hungry car club peeps along to check it out. One diner in fact had dined before and suggested the onion rings. Pleasant surprise that CDC's offerings were equal to some of my fave rings in the state of Texas. Fried pickles were possibly the best I've ever had. I chose the taco salad as I've been on an old school Tex-Mex quest lately. Tortilla presentation is unique; not akin to the bowl shape. Flat with a slight curve on the edges. Salad in the middle. Spring mix instead of iceberg so you know it's upscale wink wink. Chicken while acceptable could have been a bit more tender. Make the salsa and sour cream standard and offer an avocado component. Also, it needed beans to make it kick azz. While it also looks huge, it wasn't really a sharable plate. Others praises the chicken fried steak, fried catfish, and dessert selections. I'm planning on a return visit for a ribeye and those rings! Service was perfect even with a larger group; well done yall...Cattle Drive makes Coleman a nice lunch destination for my car club. read more

We drove from Abilene to Coleman for one reason. The Mexican chicken fried steak! (See photos) She told me it was a special and not available today. Almost a tear in my eye. Imagine my disappointment...when I had to eat something else that was absolutely delicious! Jim ordered the regular chicken fry, which he said was great. He sure finished before me! I had the steak fries. French fries covered in medium rare steak bites, grilled jalapeños, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, shredded cheese, and then drizzled in ranch dressing! Yes, we're going to make this at home cause it was awesome! Allllllllmost licked the plate. Oops, I forgot to tell you about the bottomless chips and salsa appetizer, and I sure did like the salsa! We are absolutely stuffed, and that's a problem. I'm going to have to take the pecan pie cobbler all the way back to Abilene, and then eat it! The staff was great. Three different young ladies checked on us the whole visit. Well, mission NOT accomplished. We have to come back on Mexican chicken fry day, so I can tickle my taste buds! See ya! read more

This is a five star restaurant, a must stop and dine establishment. The menú ranges from fried onion rings to fried pickles. From burgers to the cow flaps(a must) their dinner will size up any tastebuds. Local caught fish to skewered Shrimp to a world class aged and cooked to order 18 oz. prime rib. Very cool atmosphere....thus the 2 stars. Seafood platter - lots of food. Lots of under cooked food. Fried catfish and fried shrimp need hot grease in order for the food to be served hot and crispy. The fries....not enough to salvage the rest of the plate. The hushpuppies were the best thing on the plate. Chicken Fried Steak - much the same. The Chicken Fry didn't find the hot grease either. Nor did the onion rings. The mashed potatoes .....didn't find their source of heat either. This whole plate had potential.....if only it were cooked properly. Lots of food....but quantity NEVER trumps quality. Drove nearly an hour very anxious to try the place that receives 4 1/2 stars only to show up on a day when the grease wasn't hot and the potatoes weren't reheated from the night before. Our complaints, while legitimate, fell on deaf ears. read more
