About two weeks ago, my husband and I were in Las Cruces to see my dad and other members of our family. Cattle Baron is my dad's favorite restaurant so we took him there for dinner, of course. Darien was our server. He was friendly, kind, and efficient. Our food was delicious and prepared just the way we wanted. Cattle Baron never disappoints. Surprisingly, it's also very affordable. I was accompanied by a date for a pleasant dinner at the Cattle Baron. Tonight I ordered the filet mignon with a baked potato and a trip to the salad bar. My date requested the least expensive steak on the menu...the "center cut strip loin" with fries and the salad bar. Tonight the service was again top drawer...excellent...very professional. The fresh bread was quite good but so soft it was a little difficult to cut cleanly. The salad bar of course was top drawer. The fries were crispy and very tasty. These were really good fries. The fries were so much better that the insipid onion rings I'd had previously. My date said her smallish "Manhattan cut" strip steak was ok, but nothing too special. My baked potato was good but again the Cattle Baron still bakes them in foil and the skin was not crispy. The nice sized filet mignon was tender, juicy, well seasoned and flavorful. This was a very good steak, cooked perfectly medium rare and well worth the price. All in all, this was a very nice dinner at the Cattle Baron for a reasonable price. Basically, a totally different company but Yukon Jacks in calizuela just the same. Nice salad bar, would be perfect in Tucson snowbird land as it is fresh, bland and yes i tried it to make sure. Definitely worth it for the soups. Lentil is amazing, pozole tasted fresh and spicy, soup perfection. The turkey avocado sandwich is decent, nice combination of filler and bread. Spaghetti is b.o.r.i.n.g Mac n cheese has to absolutely be kraft. For the critique, it's still wayyyyyyyy better than applesleaze, fake aussieville, n etc. Super cool and awesome overworked staff, please tip well folks... I was here several years ago and the meal was fantastic! The steak was thick and juicy, full of flavor. The baked potato was soft and fluffy, the butter and sour cream just melted and mixed in so easily! I loved it! So I went again a few weeks ago when I was in Las Cruces. I had the same steak and potato but this time the steak was thin and not very tasty. It was good, but not what I remembered. The baked potato was a bit undercooked and hard which made mixing all the "loaded" parts together a bit harder. My server was great, the salad bar was great. The food was just ok. I will try it again when I am back in town and see if I was there on an off night. read more

What a terrific evening we experienced here. The service was top notch. The salad bar was beyond anything I've ever seen. Huge is small compared to this salad bar. I ate so much that I couldn't even eat my main course. It was all fresh and fully loaded. Kept clean and super cold. Two soups to choose from also. My husband ordered ribs and I had the sirloin. You can easily get full on just the salad bar, it's that good. Food is so good and well prepared. Just absolutely amazing presentation and taste. My wife loved the Green Chile Cheese Steak aka the Néw Mexico. The Pepper steak was awesome as well. Customer service is fantastic our waitress was a sweetheart and was on point beginning to end. Cleanliness was great as well, they even have gloves for all to wear at the salad bar. Just a classy classy place with great food. We paid $85 for 2 meals, salads, 2 cokes and 1 appetizer. I absolutely love Cattle Baron's salad bar. I usually get the chicken Alfredo and add salad bar. The food is fantastic and there are so many great choices at the salad bar. My only suggestion is to be patient with the wait staff they tend to have more tables than arms and are trying very hard to give personal attention to every table. read more

We were very impressed with this restaurant. We had never been to a Cattle Baron before and were pleasantly surprised with this establishment. This place was excellent. This was a tough one for me. As a vegetarian I wouldn't normally have come to a place that specializes in steaks and such. But I was celebrating with my family that enjoys cutlets. I ordered the Cajun Chicken Alfredo Pasta without the chicken which the waitress kindly let me know it was an option. We did ask for a meal serving and they ended bringing us a side size serving. Mine and my wife's pasta (without chicken) took more time to arrive to the table even though the size and lack of chicken would have made it 'easier' to prepare. My brother which ordered the same dish but with chicken was half way done with his by the time ours arrived. The salad bar is really good, though. It offers a variety of delicious options. If I were to go again I would stick to the salad bar for sure because the pasta was very bland even compared to cheaper options out there. We got seated considerably fast giving the amount of people in the establishment. This place is worth giving it a try and I'm sure the steaks are good because the rest left pretty satisfied with the service and food. Bottoms up! read more

Ordered the prime rib and it would have been ok but the line cook soaked it in juice from the vegetables. A caesar salad was ordered also and it was sub par. I don't think the cook knows how to prepare a authentic caesar salad. It was more like a vinegar and oil dressing with Parmesan grated over it. Maybe he should google how to prepare. Very disappointing. Wait staff hurried us through our order and didn't allow us to order appetizers. I ordered a white wine and it was minimal at best. I asked for ice tea with the meal and she brought before the wine. I was informed they no longer carry Ferrai -Carano either. No problem, it was double what I can get at the local package store anyway. Got a new waitress and she was so much better. Don't think I will go back however. The service was amazing. All of the staff was so nice! The restaurant was so clean and nice inside. The salad bar was great I was not expecting it to be that big. So many great things about this restaurant, my only complaint is the food. I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo and it was so bland. Even the chicken in it wasn't seasoned. My husband ordered a steak and he said the same it wasn't seasoned. We also got the green Chile wontons and they were very weird and I didn't enjoy the sauce that came with it. It's nice, the food is good so I can't knock them on anything but slow service...which may actually be a feature at this restraunt. Feb 4, 2022 my husband and I went for the salad bar. This restaurant has always had one of the best salad bars and we have gone often. However last nights experience was terrible. They were out of honey mustard dressing and the cook said they would not be getting it back. That left the ranch dressings, blue cheese and thousand island, none of which we cared for. We reconsidered ordering a steak but without a good salad decided against it. My husband had soup and a couple servings of the pasta. I had salad and tried two of the dressings offered. I did not care for them so did not eat much of the salad. We left disappointed, hungry and probably won't be back. I don't know who would make the decision to stop having honey mustard dressing, but BIG mistake. read more

I was down visiting with my kids for the weekend in Las Cruces and we asked them where they would like to go for dinner. They suggested Cattlebaron which is a steakhouse. I had never been there before so I was all for it. The atmosphere and ambience was very nice they have a gorgeous salad bar and my Cajun chicken sandwich was really really good. I have to say this I don't mind spending for good service and good food . And I enjoy eating out especially after a long day when we are in town . I loved they're menu options prime rib was spectacular just wish that my server had a bit more time to come to our table either way we left our tip we get it but it would of been nice to enjoy our food with drinks kind thirsty there at the end . Otherwise food was delicious didn't get to eat desert we had appetizers but brought our desert home . I recommend the Prime rib it literally melts in your mouth I just Hope next time we get a happier server who doesn't look upset when you are asking for water or another drink . Nice return to the Baron just now. Delayed anniversary night out for my husband an myself. Wish I had gotten our waiters name as he was marvelous. A very attentive, good humored young man who kept in touch to see if we need anything and refilled our waters. He tempted me with a scandalous chocolate dessert that took all my will power to decline lol. Husband had a house margarita and I ordered a raspberry mule, not an on menu cocktail and the waiter said the bartender wasn't sure the recipe. He created a fantastic berry mule on the fly! The 'Thai' dip and green onion dip sauces are always great. We enjoyed the chicken fried steak with mashed taters, a rib eye with baked sweet tater. We both had potato soup (with garlic croutons and real bacon bits)and salad. As always, the fresh crusty bread and whipped (butter blend?)were perfect. More chicken fry than could be finished. Huge steak in crispy, flaky batter and deep fried to a perfect golden brown. There was a equally 9large0 scoop of skin on red mashed taters and cream gravy. Perfectly medium well rib eye with preen peppercorn butter!! Try a steak with this. Smooth, peppery, complements the beef marvelously. Remembered to skip the sweet cinnamon butter as regular baked sweet tater is where its at. Salad bar was immaculate and looked like it had been filled minutes previous. The service was great, food was good but for the price go somewhere else. Our 8 oz prime rib the waitress delivered and said here is your 6 oz prime rib. Then when we said we ordered an 8oz, she said that was what it was. Didn't look like it. My husband ordered a 12oz prime rib and steak fries...prime rib looked good, but 4 steak fries...really. I didn't know potatoes were so expensive!! For the price, you should get a vegetable included but you either get a potato or a vegetable. The food was good but not enough for that price. Was feeling a steak last night in the Las Cruces area and decided on cattle barons. The service was good with nothing to complain about with a good amount of people in the restaurant. I ordered the 12oz cattle baron cut steak I believe with the salad bar. The salad bar reminded of Sizzler but without the ice cream and tacos. The salad bar had plenty of different types of toppings, fruit, salads and condiments. I ordered my steak medium rare and received more of a medium well. Having heard so much about this place I can tell you that I was really impressed with the salad bar for being inside a building who's sole purpose is to supposedly serve great steak. The salad bar was large and had an impressive variety of greens, fruits, salad toppings, and puddings. I'm not sure if a salad bar only option was in the menu but if there is you can consider just going for that alone. I ordered the ribeye steak with a baked potato. The steak was cooked a medium rare as I ordered it but for all the hoopla that I read on the Internet about this place I was not impressed. My steak appeared to be one that I can get at IHOP or Denny's. It certainly did not please my taste buds. The baked potato was pitifully small and a bit over cooked. I was expecting a large potato for the price of my plate. I did get sour cream and butter for the potato which made it a bit more appetizing.
