We just moved to the area a few months ago, and this clinic alone made the move entirely worth it. We got off the waitlist after about a month, and it was soooo worth the wait. Our cat is medically complex - only 9 years old, but diagnosed with pancreatitis, diabetes, asthma, and hyperthyroidism. Also, notorious for bad behavior at her previous vet's office. I loved our previous vet and they helped me through some the hardest days of our cat's life, but Cats Exclusive is equipped to support my cat in ways my previous vet was not. Going to a clinic that focuses solely on cats means that there is a level of expertise and consideration that just doesn't exist at other clinics. There are no dogs around and they clearly take measures to make sure the cats see/smell each other as little as possible, which goes a long way to assuage our cat's anxiety. Everyone there is confident and gentle in handling our cat, and she's responded by exhibiting the best behavior we've ever seen from her in a vet's office. At our first appointment, the vet caught a dental issue that had previously gone completely unnoticed. At our second appointment, I got to talk to one of the vets who works in the hyperthyroid clinic, which was super helpful since we're considering the radioiodine treatment for our cat. Communication is always stellar (both by email and by phone). They are pricey, but worth every single penny (and no one has tried to upsell me on anything). Took my cat there for her radiation treatment. Was super anxious when I was driving my there but honestly the welcoming reception to the Dr to the nurses made me calm down. Even my spicy cat was relaxed which not her normal self. I picked her up 30 hours later and she was happy to come home yet she looked relaxed. Everyone over there is super sweet. I have been a client here for seven or eight years and had been very happy with their services for my cats. But after today, I will never go back. One of my cats has trouble keeping her rear end clean, so I brought her in for a "sanitary trim." The technician spent at most two minutes running clippers up her backside, and they charged me FIFTY-TWO dollars. I was expecting more like $15. When I expressed shock, the attitude of the receptionist was basically "Tough shit, what's your card number?" This clinic hasn't been taking new clients for quite some time, but maybe there's room now! You've been warned about their prices, however. read more

We moved up to Shoreline 8 months ago and I was mourning the loss of my beloved, Pumpkin. But time heals and I met some guys who had some stray kittens they needed to rehome. So enter Mimi Le Mew! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with joyous receptionists who were eager to meet our 8 week old baby. She has gone a couple times for her kitten vaccines and it's a great place to go. She will be going soon to get fixed so that no little Mimi's will populate Shoreline. I like that we are going to a place that specializes in felines (actually Mimi feels quite snobby about it because her dog sisters don't get to go...it's "exclusive"). I've only ever owned one cat and if I do say so myself, he is quite remarkable. He deserved a place that was cats only and after trying a couple of vets, this place hit all the marks. It was nicely decorated with comfortable seating in the lobby. The employees and vets are cat lovers so they are friendly when you arrive with your pet. They offered a tour on the initial visit without the cat. They have clean facilities, both back and front offices, and friendly staff. I never thought I'd be so attached to a cat before but it happened so good thing he has a place to go where his health is their top priority. His primary veterinarian is Jen Fligiel who has worked here since 2003. On one occasion she was out. Nubbin saw Kate Schubert, also a very pleasant doctor who has worked there since 2001. They provide boarding facilities: standard and townhouse accommodations. I can't review the standard boarding because he's never stayed there. He HAS stayed in their townhouses a couple of times and he's enjoyed his visits. I'll add the daily playtime package since he's used to people around all the time. This addition includes afternoon treats, catnip, and a take-home vacation journal with photograph detailing your cats' experiences. And as a bonus, the toy(s) used with your cat is also sent home with you. Cats in this section are also treated to nature videos, six climbing levels to explore, glass doors for entertainment, warm fleece beds and daily meals with cleaning. Since he was a shelter cat with former abandonment issues, we chose the townhouse boarding for him. If he was left for any period of time, he'd not eat or sometimes kick at a spot on top of his head until it was bald. Each time he stayed with the vet, his weight wouldn't fluctuate and no bald areas. I can highly recommend this place for the cat(s) in your life. They look after your cat without being overly crazy about it. They are professional and the two vets that I mentioned are absolutely wonderful. read more

Our cat was in acute need of a simple three-minute procedure to relieve pressure from fluid buildup in his nose that he periodically suffers. We desired to have this performed in your clinic (vs doing it ourselves) for two simple reasons. First, we are not as experienced at restraining him and do not wish to risk his injury in the process. Second, a period of stress and trauma is required that we do not wish to be directly associated with as he is already timid and leery in temperament. This procedure has been performed at your clinic before and you have records documenting this. No in-depth study of his medical history has been required prior. This was clearly communicated but rather than honor our appointment you casually dismissed the acute need for his treatment and blithely suggested we reschedule for a date weeks in the future. Further, your alternate suggestion that we take him to an emergency clinic undercuts your assertion that an in-depth review of his history is needed. In the end, you took a simple situation requiring a simple treatment and created an unnecessarily contentious interaction for all involved. ------------------------------------------ This is just an absolutely awful clinic. I have a cat with a persistent health issue that demands emergency appointments for treatment. He has been to every specialist and clinic in the greater Seattle area because of his rare congenital nasal cyst. Cats Exclusive is familiar with his needs and I've been very happy with how Dr. Echentile has spearheaded his treatment. I called the clinic this morning to ask for Dr. Echentile and sadly he isn't working today so I accepted an appointment w/ Dr. Schuldt given the urgency of the situation (my cat's nose is filled with fluid and it needs to be aspirated to relieve the pressure/gunk). A couple hours later, I received a voicemail canceling my appointment with zero explanation. I called in to inquire about why my appointment was canceled and had the unfortunate fate of dealing with a combative person named Tia. No explanation was given except for "the clinic cannot see your cat today". When I pressed for a reason, I was repeatedly fed the same answer (sorry, we cannot see your cat today) and then casually told.....hey, you could make an appointment for a couple weeks out! My experience w/ Dr. Schuldt and Tia lead me to believe that they really don't care about my feline family members. If you need any more details, please feel free to message me. I first brought in my fur baby to Cats Exclusive way back in 2008- back when the stray cat in the neighborhood adopted me and my family:) Have been through may types of health issues for my kitty- food allergies, dental surgery, kidney issues, etc. All issues were worked through and well managed by the doctors who cared for my little guy. I had never had a cat before, so the staff were great at helping me navigate through caring for him all these years. Last week, my little guy passed away after a sudden illness. Naive me now understands the negative reviews. Prices increase heavily over time and instead of providing preventative care this place purposely doesn't tell you the affects of food and medicine over time so that you will conveniently become a regular return visit. I have always taken great care of my cats and spent well over what anyone would to help them. After many, many visits and feeding the recommended food by the vet both of my cats teeth are in need of regular cleaning, they have gum disease and the bill will be $2,080.00! Yes I love my cats but I also love paying my rent. Never in my life has a bill for them been that much. They suggested pet insurance knowing full well pre existing conditions are not covered. Like the gum disease and dental issues they just told me my cats had. I'm beyond furious and mad that my cats will now suffer for something I could have been preventing or working on. There are some great animal loving people that work here, but it's obvious someone is profiting from cat owners and upping the bills every year. We love this vet. We have taken our two cats here ever since we moved to Shoreline several years ago. The staff are wonderful with the cats and treat them like their own. When one cat suddenly became ill and we discovered several deep, infected cuts on his abdomen, Cats Exclusive was able to get us in right away. They took great care of him and called several times to check on him after we'd taken him home following his stitches. And his two follow-up appointments were free! I don't know how they compare with other local vets in terms of price, but the level of service is outstanding and we won't take our cats anywhere else! read more

Expensive and they love to have you bring your pet back multiple times for the same issue so that they can milk you of every penny they can get out of you. Also, and this is important: forget consistency. They will pass you around from vet to vet who all seem to disagree on how to treat your pet. So getting consistent care here seems impossible (and nerve wracking). It's very easy to drop $400 here and walk out with little more than a bottle of antibiotics and no real confirmed diagnosis (because, again, they seem to thrive on repeat visits for the same issue). They also will NOT let you be with your pet even for mundane things. For all I know they could be playing football with my poor kitty back there. Bottom line, if you care about your pet enough to blow paychecks on it at a vet, then the vet should care about you. While I must say that they are nice people and they do act professional, the actual results aren't up to par. Also, again, pretty much forget a consistent vet that can get to know your animal. They always have an excuse to pass you around to random vets each visit. All in all, not worth the stress if you want great care for your pet. Best to find a vet that doesn't treat animal care like a front to sell you high priced items in their pet store (which they have, and do). Pass. read more

Our experience with Cats Exclusive is from a couple of years ago, but the impact has been lasting. We have a troubled cat, Ookla, who does not do well with strangers. This has made vet visits quite challenging. When we saw that there was a vet dedicated to caring for cats, we thought it was a perfect option for our monster. If only we had known... All other times we've taken Ookla to a vet, the vet has had us involved in the examination. Having familiar hands and smells usually helps keep him calmer. At Cats Exclusive, they didn't want our involvement. Because he gets aggressive, they used falconer gloves - giant leather gloves - to handle him. It freaked Ookla out so much that he started defecating all over the examining table. Eventually, he was so worked up that his tongue got stuck out of his mouth. He couldn't get it back in as he got more and more scared. It was traumatic not only for him, but for us to see. They wanted us to come back for more tests, but we refused. We've never gone back, and are quick to tell our friends to stay far away. It's obvious the experience has had a lasting impact on Ookla. He's afraid of women who look similar to the vet tech that used the gloves with him. Thank goodness we've since found a wonderful vet (Phinney Ridge Animal Hospital) who is patient and understanding of our cat's difficulties. I expected much better service from Cats Exclusive. I had a difficult conversation with the manager of boarding services to let her know where Cats Exclusive dropped the ball. Before we initially contacted Cats Exclusive, we went to their website and watched their videos about the facility and boarding townhomes. I made an appointment for the cats to be examined and screened, and we received a packet of information about the facilities and an estimate for the boarding. I asked the receptionist if we needed to do anything else and she replied, "You're all set. We'll see you August 2nd!" When we arrived to the facility, it quickly became apparent that we did not have a reservation in their system. This was the first of many red flags. To their credit, the Center was able to board our cats in a townhome. We went into an examination room with the technician to weigh the cats and talk about their daily care. A technician should have reviewed aloud our feeding instructions to make sure the information was correct. My partner did not write the feeding instructions clearly which resulted in our cats being overfed and then running out of food. I gave the Center my mobile number as the primary contact while we were in Europe. My partner received the voicemail from the Center about the feeding issue, only we have no idea when the issue started because there wasn't a date-time stamp with the message. I checked the paperwork when we returned to retrieve our cats and I am still unsure as to why I was not the one contacted as we stated. Being in Europe, we were not exactly sure how to contact the Center to check on our cats' health and happiness. I used a generic catch-all email address for the Center. The first reply came within 24 hours; the second email regarding the feeding issue was addressed 72 hours later, and from an email address no-reply@. We are in Europe, we are paying a premium for boarding, and receiving an email from a no-reply@ email address is never acceptable. In the midst of all these issues, and while still on our vacation in Europe, I received reminder emails from the Center for the cats' annual vaccinations. Why, in the name of all things sacred, would I return our cats to the Center with all the issues we experienced? When we picked up our cats, the technician let us know that the cats enjoyed the substitute wet food they received. Good information to know but I was more concerned about the cats' health due to the overfeeding. We received an initial packet of information when we first went to the Center, but all we got after retrieving our cats was a receipt. The manager asked if we would like a phone call from the Center to check in on the cats returning home and adjusting to their environment. I told her I would rather have the Center fax all pertinent information to our vet. If you are considering taking your cat(s) to Cats Exclusive for boarding, make sure: you receive a confirmation call for your reservation; you verbally walk through instructions for your cats to make sure every t is crossed; you receive a list of contact information that allows you to directly talk with boarding; and you receive follow-up documentation on the cats' health. We didn't receive any of these services with our cats' boarding, and this is why we won't return to the Center for future boarding. read more

When I told them I had insurance, they inflated the costs of routine visits. Go in for a dental exam, leave with a $1200 quote for a full mouth extraction. The exam itself also cost $60. I've since seen two other vets who've provided free dental exams and note minimal decay with need of two extractions (both provided the same diagnosis, independently of each other)... One charges about $600, the other $400. I had good experiences prior to getting insurance, so at first, I chalked it up to the vet there, Janet, being a bit overzealous and later spoke to another vet, Jessica, about an international health certificate. Again, after researching other options, I've found Cats Exclusive to be inflated to double and sometimes triple the cost of other vets in the area. This was definitely not an issue prior to reporting my insurance to them as I did my research then, just as well as now. Cats exclusive tried to steal money from my insurance co and reduce the services my cat can fairly recieve. These people make me sick. read more

I've been taking both of my cats here the entire time I've had them, and I do really like this place. The vet technicians and the veterinarians are wonderful with them, and my cats are never very stressed out when they are there. The vets are great listeners and do the best they can to help with any issues the cats might be having. They also have a pretty decent pet store in their lobby, with a wide variety of healthy food (you can rely on them as a go-to place for quality food). The prices they have are pretty much the same as regular pet stores. HOWEVER... They are not always people friendly. I think that is a hazard of going to be species-specific veterinary clinic. For whatever reason, standard vets tend to be understanding of the owners, as well as being concerned for the pets. I think most people who go to Cat's Exclusive are good owners, but there can be a lot of judgement over what food you give them and how much money you are willing to shell out for medication and treatment. This place is expensive. No matter the reason you have to take your cat in, no matter how minor it is - it will be $56 per visit, per cat. If you have one cat, that might not be a big deal - but if you're like me, who has more than one, and they have their check ups and immunizations at the same time, the cost is painful. It seems unreasonable to have to pay so much, everytime, even if it's just for a check up that ends up lasting for maybe 5 minutes. At least I don't have to take my cats in a lot because they're young and healthy, but for anybody with an older cat or one with special needs, I can see how this place is just too much. Hell, it's too much for me. We just adopted a dog and we really like the veterinarian we take him too, and are going to start taking our cats their as well. It's less expensive, but the care is on the same level as Cat's Exclusive. They won me over with not having to pay an exam fee for booster shots. Don't get me wrong, Cat's Exclusive is great with cats, they just need to be great with owners, too. (One star taken away for cost, one star taken away for people skills) read more

This is my favorite vet if you have a cat that you can actually take to one (City Cat Mobile Vet is great if you want/need the vet to come to you). Every time I walk in, I am greeted by helpful staff who give my Jack a ton of loving - he really does have a cute face. The exams are pricey at around $56, but the vets are very knowledgeable and take the time to answer all of your questions and never make you feel rushed. The last time I was there, Jack needed medication for a little bug he caught and the techs made sure that I knew how to give it to him before I left. They even demonstrated by giving him his first dose. Cats Exclusive also has boarding services which I've used three times this year when I went on vacations. I have tried other boarding for my cat before, but this is by far the best. They have townhouses with three levels for Jack to climb around on. They also play nature videos twice a day. For an extra $10/day you can get a play package where they will play with your cat for 15 minutes. I think the base price is around $22/night, more on holidays. I do recommend bringing your cats blanket/bed/favorite toys as they don't really have furnishings. One other great service is their cat store. Realized that you also need to pick up cat food? They have it. Need a new toy? They got that too. Kitty would love a new climbing tree? They got you covered. I have yet to find something about this place I don't like. Though I recently moved to West Seattle, I'll still drive up to Shoreline to give Jack this great level of service and care. read more

I miss this place- I live in Seatac now and I cannot find a vet as caring and compassionate and amazing as this one- Yes, their prices tend to be higher but the reason is the quality of the care your kitties receive. It's my favorite vet of all time- the ONLY thing I wasn't fond of is when we took my kitty, Dobie, to be put down (due to kidney disease, she was 16 and it was the only humane thing to do at that point- it was so bad), anyway instead of giving her the one injection they gave her two- the first one kinda drugged her and got her really messed up and her tongue was hanging out of her mouth - that was our time to say goodbye before they came in with the second injection to put her to sleep... I didn't like that- but to each his own... It kind of traumatized me a little and I would just suggest to request how you would like your kitty put down if that sad day happens.... But I didn't know- anyway I have to say that literally I haven't found a better place to take my kitties and who's doctors actually listen to you and care. read more

They did not do a good job with diagnosing problems and new kitten intake (also expensive for the services they were offering). Then they forgot to give us syringes to administer medication. It was possibly due to the particular doctor I had - I'm thinking the experience may vary depending on who is taking care of your cat. The facility overall is very nice. As soon as I voiced my concern, it was immediately rectified. I got a personal call back from the doctor, whom I now communicate with regularly and I couldn't be happier with her. Dr. Fligiel is really fantastic and knowledgeable, and she is genuinely interested in helping my cat get better. As I mentioned before, a lot of these reviews are written when people's emotions are running high and they might have just lost a feline friend. I'd say that you should really try and give this place a shot if you are dissatisfied with or even just feeling a little iffy about your current vet. I had been taking my cat here for years on a friend's recommendation, but last time, I was told not to return unless my cat went on Xanax beforehand. While it's true that my cat gets very upset and vocal at the vet's office, she never tried to claw or bite them. They really didn't handle this situation like the pros they claim to be. I also felt "judged" by the vet there several times. First it was because I wouldn't buy their expensive food (she has allergies, but the stuff from Mud Bay works just as well at 1/2 the price). Then it was because she has such terrible anxiety, which they blamed on the fact that I live alone with her in a studio apartment and she doesn't get much "enrichment" or "interaction" outside of that. Lastly, when I was talking to the vet there about my "end of life" plan for my 15 y/o cat, she was very judgmental that I would choose to "make her comfortable" instead of choosing an invasive treatment option that might prolong her life. For all of these reasons, I decided to find a different vet and I'm so glad I did. I took my cat to Aurora Veterinary Hospital instead and it was great. My new vet didn't need to sedate my cat in order to do the exam; he was very gentle and sweet with her. He was also very understanding about my cat's anxieties and my "end of life" plans. I wish I had left Cat's Exclusive sooner! read more

I was very disappointed with my experience there for several reasons. Of course, the service was expensive. My cat has been to four vets in the past including here, but ER visit (during the office hour) about $15 more expensive than the other (middle of the night) ER place. Urinalysis was $35 more than my cat's previous vet. Second issue was that when we arrived my cat was taken to the back and I did not get to see him until when I picked him up. I was happy that he was attended right away, but I expected to know which room he was taken at least. My third issue was that when I picked him up around 5pm, I did not get to see the doctor. Even I went to ER on the middle of the night, the doctor saw me and explained everything and gave me instructions of what I need to do next. It didn't feel right to me. Then as I was paying, they started to close down and turned off some lights. I felt rushed. One last issue was when we arrived home and saw my cat, his left shoulder was swollen. It was a huge lump! I freaked out but the clinic was closed already. So I looked at the list of services he received on the receipt and looked up fluid therapy on the internet because that is the only thing that he had never had before. Then I was able to figure out what caused this lump on his shoulder. What a relief!!!!! Then it made me mad that no one at the clinic explained important details to me!! I mean, this is my important cat, my family!!! Anyway I am not going back there. read more

When it comes to actual experiences with the clinic, there's not much I can say that the other 5-star reviews haven't covered already. It's really great to have a waiting room where my cat isn't being terrified by a German Shepherd or a shrieking Cockatiel, and the wait times have always been short enough (never more than 5 minutes) to ensure there isn't a bunch of cats in the waiting room making each other anxious. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I would definitely disagree with other people saying they've been "bounced around" between vets at the clinic, as that certainly hasn't been my experience. Maybe if you only make your appointments on short notice? But the front desk staff has always been sure to ask me if I preferred a certain doctor, and scheduled my appointment around that. I've been there at least 10 times by now, and my cat has seen the same person (Dr. Fligiel) every single time. As far as cost goes, it may be slightly more expensive on paper - but it's not Whole Foods expensive. You won't be paying 4-5 times more for a similar product or service. I'd guess it's around 10-20% more. But in my experience, that slightly higher cost reflects your *actual* bill, unlike some other vets I've been to. $60 might seem high for an exam, but they're not in the business of "selling razorblades." That is to say, they're not offering cheap exams to lure you in so they can try to upsell you on all kinds of unnecessary products and make their money that way. Personally, I'd much rather pay a bit extra and not have to be conflicted on whether or not my cat actually NEEDS some ridiculously expensive toothpaste or medication, or the vet needs to make a car payment. I've even been saved from multiple follow-up exams just from being able to communicate with the doctor and give status reports via e-mail. Which is great both from a financial standpoint and because my cat is absolutely terrified of car rides. They most definitely care about the animals (and owners!) there as well; when I mentioned that it was difficult for me to afford supplies for my diabetic cat, I ended up walking away with enough donated supplies and samples to ensure he was well taken care of. read more

This is the place to take your cat! I drive all the way here from Mukilteo to take my 9 year old Siamese cat, Kitty here. Now Kitty is not a nice boy at the vet. He is also quite large and difficult to handle when he is upset. Dr. Fligiel didn't bat an eye throughout all his hissing and growling, and Kitty even let her pet him a little bit. They've also given lots of helpful advice on keeping Kitty healthy as he suffers from some digestive problems. Yes, it's expensive, but what vet isn't? The Doctors at Cat's Exclusive genuinely care about your cat. They are strong believers in proper nutrition for your cat, and will educate you too if you're willing to listen. They are not the least expensive by any means, but I feel absolutely confident in their abilities and that give me peace of mind. My peace of mind is worth alot to me =) The exam rooms are very clean and cat friendly. My kitty who hates new places was sniffing around the room almost immediately and Dr. Schubert was so gentle and made kitty feel comfortable. I love this clinic. Love love love. I made the mistake of taking my cat to another clinic in Redmond while doing other business there and wish I'd stayed at Cats Exclusive. Here, the vet was very proactive in determining my cat's needs and offered ideas to reduce her weight after learning controlled feedings weren't effective. She also remembered or referenced details about my cat's history. The other vet in Redmond kept having to be reminded that my cat's weight loss was due to putting her on a diet, not a mysterious issue causing me concern. I'm bringing my cat back to Cats Exclusive and recommending it to others! Side note regarding Shanon W's review: Leukemia IS cancer of the blood and bone marrow. The Feline Leukemia Virus can turn into actual leukemia. It spreads throughout the body into the organs and/or central nervous system if not treated successfully, and that's how the seizure happened, most likely. The vet in question was correct. read more

I like the concept of taking my precious felines to a place that specializes only in cats. A few years back when my previous cat was aging, a neighbor referred me to Cats Exclusive where we met Dr. Lora Schuldt. My cranky old kitty LOVED her which speaks volumes about Dr. Lora's demeanor. She takes the time to explain everything, answer questions, and return phone calls personally. She even wrote the sweetest note when we ultimately lost our 18-year old to cancer. I've recently found myself a mother again of two more cats. I'd heard Dr. Lora had had a baby and wasn't sure she'd still be practicing. I called Cats Exclusive and she's working on Mondays and Thursdays as of this posting, so I've decided to make the commute, despite the fact that I'm now on the Eastside. We've been taking our stray cat Elvis here for the last 2 1/2 years. The clinic is clean, and the vets seem to be knowable about what they are doing. My only complaint is that yes they are pricey, But my main reason for writing this review is for Jen Fligiel, D.V.M. She has been wonderful to our little monster. Because Elvis is so fussy about his nails we have to pay a little extra, but she has always been very accommodating to his needs. Last year when my husband I got married we boarded him there for a week, they gave us pictures and weekly diary and I think he had amazing time. Definitely took the pressure off our minds when we were outta town. They even called us on our second day gone just to give an update on Elvis. I've been very pleased with Cats Exclusive and will continue to take our little monster man back there. read more

We have been bringing out cats here for 5-6 years now. We have had through the years anywhere from 4-7 cats (7 currently) we we've had a LOT of experience with CE. It hasn't always be super-awesome-fantastic, but any time we've been unhappy they have worked hard to address our needs. They were especially wonderful when I had to put my old guy, Boomer, down a couple of years ago. I had stated that I wanted to be there to hold him as he crossed the rainbow bridge, and they were very sensitive and walked us through the process, as well as giving us as much time as we needed to grieve and be with him as he passed. They gave us options for what to do with him after. We chose cremation, and they took a paw print and gave it to me as a memento. They are not the cheapest, but we feel that they are the best in the city. Their store is super helpful (we have one guy on a special diet) and reasonably priced. I am usually greeted with a smile from their staff (they all know us by now). We highly recommend Cat's Exclusive. read more
