This restaurant is a hidden gem in Autauga County. While the overall selection is fairly small, no restaurant in the area does seafood as good as the Catfish House. Due to the decor and welcoming staff, the place feels very much like home. There's some terrific scenery behind the restaurant that you can view through the windows as the sun goes down, and enjoy this terrific place. The Catfish House, to me, has changed. I had the senior citizens catfish platter tonight, just like the last time we were there. You get two full fillets. This time, they cut one fillet in half and tried to act like its two. I complained. So the busser came back with another half. What a jip. Some places act like patrons are stupid. I was staying in Prattville and there are only so many local food options, e.g. not chain restaurants, in the area. Plus, I was just arriving in the area and wanted to buy my food to go. I found the Catfish House and made my way on over. When I entered the Shrine of John Wayne (you'll understand what I mean when you enter), it was towards the end of the business day, but the hostess was still professional, friendly, and patient with me as she went over the menu. In the end I decided on their Seafood Platter Special, which included sides of beans, coleslaw, and twice-baked potato; and a sweet tea, because - DUH! - we in the South, baby! The platter also came with tarter, cocktail, and house sweet & sour sauces. They asked me if I wanted dessert too but I figured that I was already breaking my calorie limit for the day by eating so much fried food so late in the evening, so I passed. I waited 10 minutes for my order and was on my way. My platter included hush puppies, crab, and catfish. Everything was perfectly fried/cooked, which is what you'd expect in the South: perfectly fried food. No burning; golden crisp... Spot on. However, the flavor did not "wow" me. Perhaps the taste would have been better had I eaten at the restaurant when everything came out freshly fried, but even then I don't think it would have made too much of a difference. I think it just needed a better blend of spices in the fried items, and a little more mixed in with the crab dish. But it was all still good to eat and very much worth trying. I went back to the restaurant a second time a few days later specifically to buy the Fried Peace Pie, which included a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Good and satisfied my sweet tooth, although I expected something a little better. Maybe if I had stayed it would have been served differently, such as on a hot skillet. read more

The various sides served with every meal were gooepd, except for the cole slaw. Hushpuppies were numerous and good eat, as were the white beans. As mentioned, the seafood is all fried, except for boiled shrimp. Various items are available in various groupings, with all being fried. Did I mention most everything is fried? Service was good and the front of house was clean and well maintained. 6/10. Will eat there again when I want fried seafood, which isn't real often. read more

We have family from out of state again. They all wanted Catfish House. So the 7 of us went Wednesday night. Even my chicken eaten 17 year old grandson liked it. He took a bite from everyone plate. Liked the popcorn shrimp best. Serve was great food was great good time had by everyone. May have to go one more time before they all leave. We give 5 stars to the wonderful little place. Excellent find on Yelp while passing through. Straight forward menu and not complicated. Plenty of options for everyone, the food was excellent and there was plenty of it. Catfish and shrimp hand breaded to order and served piping hot and delicious. Even the kids popcorn shrimp is hand breaded, nobody does that. Hush puppies and the whole "set up" was spot on. My new favorite place! I lived in this area for 23-years and am not sure why I never ate here before now! I actually think we did eat there one time many years ago (before it burned down) then they rebuilt it in the same spot but we just never tried it out again until a few nights ago. We had a short wait for a table and it was moderately busy on a Wednesday night. I really loved the place! the eclectic decor (somebody loves John Wayne) and the rustic feel that only a place known for yummy catfish and hush puppies would have! I mean they have Dory and Nemo in the fish tank for crying out loud! Anyway, Our son ordered the large fried shrimp plate with fries, my hubby and I ordered the snow crab legs (one with reg fries and the other with sweet potato fries (which are delish dipped in ranch dressing, btw) but, although our son got his correct order, the hubby and I received small fried shrimp plates with fries...after looking a bit confused we explained that is not what we ordered; apologies were made and the plates we ordered came out after a short wait (we had "the set up" which is a pot of white beans, a bowl of coleslaw and another pot of hush puppies, to keep up busy and a 1/2 lb. order of fried crab claws, which were very meaty and yummy!) so we were O.K. The snow crab legs were awesome, I can eat my weight in crab legs!! the fries were as good as fries can be, but when we got our check they only charged us for the small fried shrimp plates which were about $6 cheaper than the snow crab leg plates, so kudos to them for not only making our order correct rather quickly, but letting us pay less for the trouble. Sweet! The Catfish House in P'ville is definitely going on our list of places we will eat at often! Still not sure why it took us so long to rediscover it, but we are glad we did. read more

The place is in a country setting, right on a large pond... be sure to ask for a table by the windows!! Awesome views!! And of course they being you a ton of hush puppies, coleslaw, and beans... all ohhhhh soooooo gooooood!!!! Needless to say the food was most excellent, as was the service. Our server was the best!! We could speculate that the fish was cooked the last night open, Saturday, and tonight, Tuesday, being the next open night & we were there at opening, that we got fish cooked Saturday, frozen & served tonight.
