Stopped in for an early lunch and was surprised with a wonderful vegan parsnip & apple soup. This was probably some of the best soup I've ever had! It was incredibly flavorful and I paired it with a delicious 1/2 BLT. First time and here bites into the sausage special and simply fantastic. Eggs were balanced and creamy which is tough to do and the pickled shallots were a fantastic surprise and complement to the black beans. Sausage had a wonderful smoky flavor and a bit of a bite to their finish. Am actually heading back to thank the gentleman who prepped the meal Terrific experience and engaging service. I really like the atmosphere and the mimosas, but the food wasn't the star today. I had the "Come and get it" and it was under seasoned and honestly three bites in I was done with my plate. I'm from the Midwest and when you have chicken fried steak or chicken fried chicken, Heinz 57 sauce is a suitable condiment to have on hand. They didn't have any. I almost brought my own from home. Ekk.... The service was weird but good I guess. I had two people helping me. One with drinks and the other with the food order. They state on the website they are taking " Covid Precautions and operating at half capacity" when my son and I were not even a social distance from all the tables around us. Literally the table behind me was so close that I had to move the table and my chair. Go for the experience I suppose, but better food could be made in your own kitchen. The only thing memorable about this was my one on one time with my son and how I kept telling my husband how disappointed I was with the food quality. read more

Wow what a great place to eat, the building looks European and the outside dining area is so tranquil lending to a great dining experience! The food was excellent in presentation and tasty to the nth degree then there's STELLA, the most pleasant part of the whole experience. She made you feel like part of the family as the restaurant is owned and operated by her family. Definitely worth a visit and we will go back when in Bozeman again. We love STELLA!!! read more

One of the two places in Bozeman that I would recommend to ANYONE visiting or living there (though if they live there odds are they already know about it), the other being Garage the Soup Shack & Mesquite Grill. This place is just amazing with respect to the food. They prepare it all fresh as you order and while that does mean a longer wait to get it, once you do the food is just something special. I went there for both breakfast (twice) and dinner (once) and all the visits the place was full of happy customers. The breakfast there is just good southern comfort foods. Great omelets, amazing banana bread french toast, and biscuits and gravy that are so tasty you just KNOW that your arteries will hate you for it later. Everything we ordered took a little bit to come, but each and every plate was practically licked clean before the waitress took them away. The dinner isn't anything special in regards to selection, but again the fact that the food is made from scratch and made by hand makes it taste amazing. The steak salad is a carnivores dream, the chicken sandwich had slices of bacon so thick and well cooked that it almost seemed like there was more pork than chicken (that is not a complaint by any means). As for the service there it is pretty good with a few caveats which can be summed up as "if you're a good customer you get good service, if you're rude then you won't enjoy your meal nearly as much". I've included a picture of something that is at the table when you sit down (check the photos on the top right of this page). Overall this combined with Garage for their burgers almost makes me want to spend the $400 round trip airfare to go back to Montana or that the owners of these establishments will open up a location in NYC. I definitely recommend this place. It has a really cool cat vibe. There are pictures of cats and lots of cat related stuff all over the restaurant. The owner is very nice. We've been going here for years. I take my kids there often for breakfast. The food is not expensive. The staff are very nice. There are so many cool stuff at this café. There is also a table with a brick that you could take out the wall and inside our notes from people. My family calls it the secret for it. I definitely suggest going here especially if you love cats. read more

This is the place that awoke my inner foodie spirit many, many, many years ago. Whenever I could go to eat here, I would. It was my top place to bring friends and family. After having a laps of several years, I decided to cruise through Bozeman for a quick 2 hour visit. Of course Cateye Cafe was top on my list! After stepping into the stairway, I signed my name to the list, grabbed a cup of coffee and I was instantly welcomed by a sweet couple from Bozeman. (I love Montana people, always so friendly!) We chatted it up, had some small world talk about people we mutually know and said our goodbyes as they were swept off to their table for breakfast. Me!!!! I was next!!!! After only a few more minutes of waiting I was shown my cute solo table and my coffee was warmed. No menu looking for me needed, I knew exactly what I was getting. I had to see if my favorite dish had changed after 10 years. The Fishbowl....salmon, cream cheese, and spinach/tomato scramble. Yup, still amazing!!! In the end, I devoured my meal, sipped my coffee and gazed at the wonderful cat décor. Real comfy place only a block off Main Street. Nice shaded outdoor area as well as funky inside playing on the Cateye theme. This is kind of place that has serious regulars and the servers know all their names. Focus is breakfast and lunch items, and there are a lot if unique menu items featuring pretty much anything you can think of, with their own twist. Excellent coffee kept topped up by my server. Getting the food out of the kitchen takes a bit of time. I think they start everything fresh. However, I didn't mind the 15-20 minute serving time as there is lots to see on the inside and the staff is so much fun to watch interacting with the patrons. Parking is a bit dicey as on street is limited. There is some parking in a small lot on the side, else find a side street spot I thin a block or two of the restaurant. I highly recommend breakfast here if you are in Bozeman around Main Street. Think you'll really like it. read more

Not usually someone to write reviews but felt necessary considering food and drinks were great, so was service (our waitress was wonderful) until the hostess pressured my friend and I to leave our table (literally right after we got our cards back) because "there's a long line [of people waiting to be seated.]" I can honestly say this was the first time I've ever been asked to leave a table at a restaurant, and it's not acceptable. As someone who's spent years as a server, I have never once pressured a table to leave to accommodate new tables - it's downright rude. I was trying to finish my coffee to sober up from one of their big cat mimosas, but didn't get the chance. And I'll add that there were only three people on the stairs waiting to be seated. An advantage of visiting someone who lives in a particular town, they'll take you to the really good places! First of all, this place is a bit small & noisy but worth the noise for the yummy food & kitschy decor. I asked one of the waitresses, she says the kitty decorations come from their customers, it's a very fun atmosphere. One of my daughters had a brie BLT w/ orzo pasta salad, she said the BLT was a bit heavy on the mayo but otherwise delish & the pasta salad was super yummy. I had their meatloaf w/ mashed potatoes & gravy...VERY good, nearly as good as my own meatloaf & that's saying something :) If I had a quibble, it would be that I'd loved to have had some broccoli or other green veggie w/ it but that's a small thing. Found this place through Yelp and ate there a few weeks ago. Nice brick walls in old school building. Downtown Bozeman area was nice to see as we were just passing through. We got "The Felix" which was nice...not thrilling but nice. The bread was a ciabatta as opposed to a large English muffin as advertised. Chicken fried steak and eggs was also good. Banana bread French toast a la carte and was really just banana bread just slightly covered with egg like French toast but one would be hard pressed to tell the difference between actual French toast prep as opposed to just warmed banana bread and to me whipped cream, maple syrup or sugar toppings is just too much. Coffee on the weak side. Our server was friendly. It was an average breakfast nothing to remember. Perhaps it is better than average in a fairly isolated location. read more

The Cateye has some of the most flavorful breakfast dishes in Bozeman, but unfortunately the breakfast potatoes are so frequently undercooked and flavorless that we avoid it. Stopped here for breakfast with my family as we are vacationing in Bozeman. 2 kids, 4 adults. Inside is only smaller tables so being a group we sat outside. We were immediately impressed with the service. Our server was prompt and super friendly. She was knowledgeable about the menu and made lots of great suggestions and was a lot of fun. Delicious. Servers were quick refilling my coffee, and friendly. The banana bread french toast was better than I thought it would be - if anything, I just want more of that catnip sauce! Another table ordered the biscuits and gravy, which looked fabulous. They also have flavored mimosas, which I have not tried, but again looked delicious, with the appropriate champagne/juice ratio. Decided to stop by before my flight back to chitown for a bfast. The hostess or possibly the owner of the Caffè was bubbly and chatty. Asked me what I want to drink right away but thats where the fast service stopped. After that it took 20min and only after I mentioned I don't have much time. I ordered burrito with seasoned beef, bacon, eggs, beans, cheese and salsa. Expected amount of beef and bacon was not present, it almost felt they were non existent. Beans were undercooked, almost crunchy and over all flavor was fairly blant. So this is 2 main strikes service and food. The ambiance and setup was nice so as coffee and if thats all you are going for then you are good to go but if not then you might consider what I mentioned. The menu is not so extensive and what I ordered was listed as on of the go-to items hence the expectation was they would be masters at that otherwise why make it as something they are "famous" for. Hopefully the rest is quite a bit better. This is my 2 cents and I hope it changes but I dont know after all they have 4 stars which I assume means people like this place and my exprience was just one off. I hope thats the case. read more

This cute little cafe, in the heart of Bozeman, doesn't serve your standard b'fast fare. It's heavy on the Mex style (see below) and a more sweeter take on your traditional offerings. Not being one to choose this for my first meal of the day, I focused on the specials. Pumpkin pancakes and bacon/veggie frittata were on tap. I was all in for the frittata, a blend of roasted zucchini and onion mixed with hash browns and gouda served with a side of warmed blueberry coffee cake. Very good and portion was sizeable, plenty leftover. Great service, I never saw the bottom of my coffee cup. While worthy of 5 stars, it receives only 4 in this review. This was in part due to the heavy weight of the Mex and, more importantly, no sourdough. Sourdough is a must in the west! read more

Came here for Sunday brunch with friends. Cateye is a cute, cozy restaurant with cat-themed decor and busy wall decorations. They serve classic breakfast items (pancakes, french toast, omelettes, eggs) as well as sandwiches and burgers. I ordered the cowgirl, which is banana bread french toast (yum! Why have I never thought of this??) And bacon and sauteed potato. Overall pretty good, though there wasn't any one particular thing about the dish that was remarkable. Service was super slow, albeit friendly. 10-15min to take orders, 10-15 min to come with checks when all the food was gone, another 10min to collect the credit cards. My companion ordered a "poor man's mocha" which is hot cocoa mix in coffee. I am +/- on how that is acceptable to serve in a restaurant but it came with a giant pile of whipped cream, which is somewhat redeeming. read more

On a recent trip to Bozeman we noticed a significant line waiting outside of the Cateye Cafe...and thought, Ok they have something good going on there. So the next morning we made a point of getting to the Cateye as the doors were opening, and were greeted by a very friendly staff, and this was by far the best breakfast I have had in Bozeman. Every thing was hot, fresh and delicious...don't sleep on the huckleberry coffee cake, if you miss it, you have missed a treat. Don't pass this place without stopping in. read more

I had the Round Up, which was good. I was mostly interested in trying the banana bread french toast, and it was good. The couple of potato pieces were nicely cooked, and so were the eggs. The value is pretty good too. I tried the heuvos gringos, which describes the flavor quite well. The salsa was definitely gringo!
