This place came highly recommended but definitely overhyped. We enjoyed the wine and the appetizers, but we did not like the fact that there was a store set up with a back terrace of seats, it was cold, and very empty on a Saturday night. After reviewing the menu, we decided on the Pork Belly Tacos and Ham Croquettes, both were good but nothing to write home about. We were a little disappointed with the experience overall but cannot comment on main dishes as we didn't get that far and we spent a pretty penny. read more

Walking down the Polanco streets at night reminds me of stately European cities. The restaurants spilling out onto the streets are top rated and their service in impeccable. I return to this area often. I find a restaurant that I think is the best yet, promise to return but then I walk into another place. That was the case with Catamundi. Had two friends with me and we found this upscale endeavor inviting. Five stars to the ambience, to the wait staff, to the cooks. I had a braised beef. Meat came on a bed of mashed potatoes. Rich sauce, beef was extraordinary. Just well made with love and obligation to serve nothing but the best. We asked for guacamole that came seasoned with, among other things, sunflower seeds. This was stop 7 of 7 on my Polanco walking tour. As the last stop, all we had was a hot chocolate which was the best thing I've ever had in my life. Thank goodness I asked for a big cup. This place is like Eataly. It's your one stop shop for all things classy related. They have all the things. I was there in the middle of the day on New Year's Eve while they were prepping so many meals. It was so busy. I've been here a handful of times and as far as the restaurant goes, I'm consistently happy with the food, the service and the overall dining experience. I really like the tuna tartare, the grilled cheese sandwich, and the fish of the day is usually quite good. As far as the store, be prepared to drop a lot of coin. This is a gourmet food and fine wine store. The wine is definitely overpriced by retail standards. For example, I paid about $50 US for a bottle that I later learned retails for less than half that. Cashing out here is never easy. I recently tried to pay for two cookies and the only, unpleasant cashier working decided to keep gift wrapping the endless gifts of the customer ahead of me instead of making them wait a minute before she returned to the gift wrapping. I ended up leaving the cookies on the counter and walked out. Worse, there was another employee standing right there next to her who neither acknowledged nor helped us. If you don't want to eat in the street, there's a courtyard in the back. read more

Found this spot via Yelp as it was reasonably close to our hotel. We came for breakfast, the menu has a wide variety and everything that came out of the kitchen appeared very good! My boyfriend wanted a light breakfast so he started with a berry smoothie and had oatmeal as his main dish, he absolutely loved it. I started with a very refreshing green juice and had scrambled eggs covered with tortilla, topped with chorizo and smothered with bean juice! My goodness it was delicious! My food came out minutes after we ordered. The only reason why I am giving this restaurant a 4 stars vs 5 is because we were having issues ordering the oatmeal. Could have been a language barrier, not sure, but that item came out very late. Also, want to note this gourmet-like food was reasonably priced. Our entire breakfast was under $40 for the both of us. We decided to have something "small" in Polanco before heading to Condesa. And so we came to this spot in the prime area of Polanco and ordered three appetizers, Soft Shell Crab Tacos, Croquettes and Empenadas. The tacos were the best tacos we have ever had, the level of complexity in flavors and deliciousness made us want to order about 10 more of them. It was amazing to say the least. The ambiance of this place is hipster chic and they have a very cute patio with string lights and very cute decor. We loved it here! This place has it all except the somewhat stand-offish attitude of the "girls" at the hostess podium. I spent a couple of hours here, mostly people watching. Pretty damn good. I had the ceviche and it had to rank way up there. Sacre Bleu! I also had the soft shell crab and I was blown away. My server was excellent. This young man was on top of everything. Due to covid we were not able to eat on the back patio but we had dinner on the front. Services was excellent and food and drinks were good. I tried the Steak and Fries Fondue and it was good BUT the cheese took away the flavor of the meat. My recommendation would be to eat it separately. This is one of the upscale bars in town. There is outdoor seating as well as an indoor bar. The inside of Catamundi is filled with different bottles of wine. There is literally wine from the floor to the ceiling. They have an extensive wine menu, and some very delicious cocktails. I tried one of the Mexican wines called Sin Titulo. It was very smooth. Their eats are pretty amazing too. They have a full menu, but I only tried some of the appetizers. The flatbread is my favorite. The thin bread is covered in kale and sauce. It has sweet layers as well as savory ones. read more

We just grabbed a drink here on a stroll around the neighborhood, but the drinks were fantastic, and the place was super cute. There's a patio outside in the front, a shop/bar area, then more seating in the back. We sat at the bar, and while service was quiet slow, my sangria was delicious. We had just eaten, but all of the food around us looked really good. The shop portion had some cool kitchen items from salt and pepper shakers to cookbooks. I left with some new kitchen knickknacks and an apron. Next time I'm in CDMX, I'd like to stop here for a full meal. read more

The best "conchas" I have ever tried in my life! I consider myself a fan of the conchas (i.e. sweet bread in the shape of a shell with a sugar shell-patterned exterior cover, hence the name "concha" which means shell in Spanish) so decided to explore as many different conchas as I could throughout my 3-month stay in Mexico City. BY FAR, Catamundi has the best conchas I have tried. In my opinion, much much better than other popular Mexico City conchas such as "El Cardenal", "Café Tacuba", "ENO", etc. I will continue my search for the best concha and update this review if I find any other one I like better. read more

The dinner started off great. Our waiter was really on point and friendly. Our appetizers came out quickly but we ended up having to wait over an hour for the rest of our meal. The manager came out to let us know it would be just one more minute which we had been hearing for the last 15-20 minutes. We told him we were out of time and needed to leave but instead of listening to us he went ahead and had the food brought out. Our waiter came over and we told him we needed to leave and would just get the food to go even though by that point we had pretty much lost our appetite. The manager didn't even offer to comp any of the dishes at all. Why should we be forced to take and pay for food that we had waited way too long for? It was a waste of time and money. This is the most perfect MORNING restaurant you'll find in Polanco. There are street front tables as well as a huge back terrace (better a less city-noise filled brunch) that are very spacious and never feels cramped. Both sections are divided by a huge deli store and bakery, which totally gets you in the mood for some Mexican delicacies. The service is great, and the food is truly AMAZING. The menu has only 10 or so options which is great because I hate spending so much time reading the 40 different choices for Benedict's some restaurants have. The price is pricey but reasonable, especially if you take into consideration how different and delicious the food is in this place. This upscale restaurant in Polanco hit all the notes. Fresh roll with a smear of flavored butter started the meal. A nice variety of wines by the glass, white, rose and red. Had the Albariño, the Rosado and a Bordeaux during the meal. All were excellent. Ordered the Catamundi Octopus, served with blue corn tostadas, sautéed sliced Serrano peppers, guacamole and salsa. Tender and flavorful. Nice texture balance with the tostadas. Then I had the croquetas with serrano ham with a Boston lettuce salad with sunflower seeds. The croqueta had a nice light crunch and a decadent richness inside that reminded me of gnocchi with a light liver flavor that married well with the thinly cut ham. The salad was the perfect accompaniment. Toured the shop that is well stoked with bottles of wine and spirits, as well as seasoned salts and other kitchen staples. Totally worth coming for lunch or dinner. Beautiful dining room, open area to check out the staff prepping cheese and meat plate offerings, and excellent service both in the shop and the dining room. read more

To date, my most liked Instagram photo was the one I took of my breakfast toast at Catamundi. It was picture perfect, but more than that, it was delicious. I was a bit surprised at the response to the simple photo, but it goes to show that food definitely evokes emotions even if you're just looking at it. We've only experienced the restaurant and bakery. We sat outside because the weather was perfect for an outdoor brunch. Our Spanish was terrible, but we managed to have a fantastic meal. The restaurant contains a little market with a cute eating area in the middle with cakes and charcuterie. On the right are crates with really cute pastries. OMG such nice matcha-stuff collection. Very excited to visit again soon to try their breakfast. As you walk more inside, there is an outdoor seating area where the main dinning area is. The food is amazing especially for the price. We had their -Brioche with goat cheese butter (I think) - complementary -Ceviche de Temporada - excellent and very unique in flavor especially when paired with the tortilla chips. -Salmon Salvaje- very tender and perfectly crisp skin, nicely cooked in medium with a cauliflower puree and tomato bisque sauce -Short Rib - the meat just fell apart when you pull through with a fork. It's dressed in a lightly sweet and flavorful port wine sauce. -Chocolate cake - Big portion, little dry for my taste but the chocolate frosting is very rich in flavor with a a natural sweetness to it. And the raspberry jam inside was delicious. Drinks: Their cocktails were very smooth and well-made. I dont remember the names but we had one with lemon and black tea, and the other with passion fruit. All of which we ordered I would recommend. The service was extremely nice. Because we had so much food, my friend couldn't finish the short rib and they asked us if it was because it was bad and if we wanted it differently. After having a long day of walking my girlfriend and I were hungry and had a list of places we wanted to check out. We decided to go to Catamundi and at first it seemed like it had great atmosphere, the wait staff looked attentive and the patrons seemed to be in great moods. We went ahead and requested for a table and were delightfully seated quickly. Our waiter came within less than a minute of us sitting and took our drink orders. The menu looked delicious and since we were hungry we made our decisions quickly and put the order in. The first round appetizers came within the first 10-15 minutes, we had requested for the other two dishes to come as a second course. We ate our first two appetizers and then had waited about 20 minutes, our waiter then said that our food would be coming in "1 minute". That 1 minuted ended up being 20 minutes long at which point the manager then came out and said the exact same thing that there was a mix up in the kitchen and that these dishes usually take about 12-15 minutes to prepare. I told him... we've been here for 48 minutes already... and he seemed as if he was surprised and then a said "I will check." I had expressed to him as well that we needed to leave since we were on a time crunch attempting to get somewhere before they closed. He kept us there and again repeated himself saying, "I will check, I will check." I wasn't sure what he had to check but in any case that "I will check" amounted to nothing because he never returned after that. About 5 more minutes pass and they drop off our food. At this point we weren't hungry anymore and were annoyed and pissed off at the lack of attention and misleading expectations for timing. On top of that they still charged us for the food that we weren't even going to eat because we were on our way out. Extremely disappointing. The place looks good, has great selection of foods but if you're a restaurant... and claim to be a restaurant, how about you cook the food in the appropriate time and give your patrons a chance to actually eat the food. Definitely not a place worth the trouble for mediocre food. Very good service awesome market ambiance. Interesting wine selection. Unfortunately they wines in their menu is so limiter and only offers whatever they decided to have instead of a proper pairing with the foods they offer. I asked if I could during any of the wines sold in the store. They told me that it could be done with a corking fee. They I was told that they had a 3 tear system for the corking fee. Wines up to $300 pesos have a $100 pesos corking fee, from $300 to $500 a $150 corking fee and above $500 a $200 fee. The enologist came to clarify my question because I have never seen a tear corking fee system and that the more the wine the more the fee. The enologist informed me that it was only a 2 tear system, $100 pesos for bottles up to $300 and $200 for bottles more than $300. I mentions that it was ridiculous. The bottle I wanted was $334. Nope she would not have it. She wanted the $200. We where also offered to seat at the terrace because it was warmer. The terrace was filled with cigarette smoke even though they are not supposed to smoke in closed spaces. Now the food, it is much like the food you would find in whole foods, or city market. It is definitely not worth the trouble with the rest of the things. Definitely do not recommend it and would not come back. read more

Our favorite place in Mexico City, from what we had time to try. The restaurant is beautiful and has a market with the most exquisite wines and gourmet goodies. The restaurant was 5 stars, great service from Veronica and the sommelier Axel, the food was outstanding, we had the octopus with spicy garnishes, the super tender short rib with wine reduction glaze (one of the best I've ever had), the ribeye burger w/truffled fries, and the strawberry jar with mascarpone cheese and ice cream.
