We stumbled across this little cafe located on a residential corner in La Condesa. We stopped to look at the beautiful white linen tablecloths, open air seating and a chalkboard with interesting seafood dishes. We were then encouraged to try it by a couple of beautiful young ladies chatting at a table. One of them said she had been coming here for many years. They were so right. The food was obviously envisioned and prepared by a top chef. I started with a shot of smooth tequila with agua mineral. The latter was brought in the bottle, allowing me to pour as much as I wished into the glass. We started with the onion soup which was rich and delicious, followed by tacos de cochinita pibil, a Oaxacan specialty given a little twist with a beautiful presentation in a fried tortilla cup, accompanied by freshly made corn tortillas and little plates of hot salsa, pickled onions, and fresh diced onions and sliced peppers that we had tasted elsewhere, but this was the best version we had on our trip to CDMX. We then had the duck confit (confit de pato) which was tender but still had some teeth to it, which we loved. We asked for a substitution of vegetables instead of the potatoes and the staff was more than accommodating, bringing us grilled mushroom and squash - delicious. The Vineria salad was a perfect blend of flavors. The friendly young wait staff brought out a tempting assortment of desserts, but we were stuffed. We were so impressed that we came back the next evening to sit at our little table on the sidewalk to try the mango mousse and the apple strudel (not as sweet as others we've had, which is good for us) with vanilla ice cream. My husband sipped coffee Americano and I enjoyed a glass of port in the cool evening air. The restaurant was never crowded, but it was a little busier on Friday night. Don't forget that you have to ask for the check because the tradition here is to let the patrons enjoy the table for as long as they want. We really appreciated not being rushed. We never looked at our cellphones once and actually enjoyed each others' company! A real date night! And the price was really reasonable for such a gourmet meal. Thank you, La Vineria! read more
