1 Star - Dangerous and disappointing experience on the Big Wheel…read more I rode the Boardwalk Big Wheel at Arizona Boardwalk today with my two young boys, ages 2 and 4. The experience was honestly terrible and, more importantly, felt unsafe. It was 105°F outside, and we were placed in the orange #15 gondola. The gondolas are primarily enclosed by glass and have no effective air conditioning. The AC in ours was clearly broken and was blowing hot air instead of cooling the cabin. Within minutes, all three of us were drenched in sweat and the heat inside was becoming extremely uncomfortable. The biggest issue was that the attendant locked us inside the gondola despite the extreme heat. We waved at her to let us out, but she didn't. We went around the entire wheel and, when we came back around, we waved again. She saw us, but still didn't open the door. I ultimately had to yell and knock on the glass to get her attention before she finally let us out after the second trip around. When we got off, I explained what had happened to the attendant. Her response was essentially an unenthusiastic, unapologetic "sorry." There was no concern about whether my children or I were okay, no offer to move us to a functioning gondola, and no refund or other attempt to make the situation right. I paid $22.71 for the ride, but the money isn't really the issue. What concerns me is putting young children into an enclosed, extremely hot gondola with a malfunctioning cooling system and then failing to respond when the passengers are clearly asking to get out. I would strongly recommend that Arizona Boardwalk inspect and properly maintain these gondolas and, more importantly, make sure attendants respond immediately when passengers are signaling that they need to exit. I would not recommend riding the Boardwalk Big Wheel, particularly with young children in extreme heat.

So not only are the adult prices $20 the kids are 2-12 $25 then another $20 for 12 tickets and for the majority all the things that take tickets are 4 tickets. With that said you could pay over a 100 bucks for an average family of 4 for an a hour or 2 hours is a long haul. Not worth it.

Among all the different slides there is something for everyone from 6 (my grandkid) to 76 (me)! Although they are all fun, my favorite slide is the Python, followed by the Royal Flush. But I recommend you try all the slides! This is a great place for birthday parties, there's a cafe and lots of tables overlooking the playing floor. There is also a special area with toddler-size activities. One thing I especially like about Slick City is that through the adventure of slides, it teaches children self confidence and helps give them the courage to overcome fear in a healthy environment. Granddaughter (7 yrs) climbed up to the top of one of the tallest slides, only to start crying from fear and then she'd climb back down. 15 minutes later she'd go up again, only to come down, defeated by her fear. She kept it up (learning determination) until she finally found the courage to slide down from the top. The smile on her now self-confident face was priceless. She had conquered her fear! She went back and rode that slide again at least 10 times. The place is pricey but well worth it. Note: you must purchase a pair of their special traction socks in the slide areas. They do not allow any other brand, so save yours for subsequent trips.

This location has been about a mile from our house for a while, but I never took her because I didn't realize they had a separate area for children five and under. The five-and-under area was much smaller and less fun than the one in Scottsdale. Even though admission for that area is cheaper than regular admission, it still came to about $19 after tax for 90 minutes. I realize that's pretty comparable to other children's play places, but at that price, I still expect my toddler to have a good time. Instead, I had to keep persuading her to stay and play because she was bored and wanted to go into the larger kids' section, which isn't safe for her age. There also isn't a gate to keep younger kids inside the little-kid area. At the Scottsdale location, we stayed for almost three hours, and I never had to persuade her to keep playing. The "arcade," if you can even call it that, was also really disappointing. I bought a $10 game card, but there were only a few games, and some weren't working. The claw machines had cheap-looking prizes, while most of the other working games seemed better suited for older kids or teenagers. The whole area looked dumpy and thrown together, like they didn't put much thought or effort into it. I also think it's ridiculous that a waiver signed at one Slick City location doesn't carry over to another. I had already completed one for Scottsdale but had to fill out another one here. They really should have a company-wide system. I was happy to learn that the Thunderbird location had a five-and-under area because it's so close to us, but after this experience, I would still rather drive 32 miles to Scottsdale. Thunderbird really needs to improve and expand the younger-kids' area so it's actually worth the price. They also need to make the arcade bigger, fix the broken machines, and make it feel like a real arcade. If they don't plan to put more effort into it, they would honestly be better off removing it. What they have now just feels like a cheap attempt at an arcade. I hate writing 1 star reviews, but when I do, it's because I hope that the business owners can take note and make improvements. I would love to come back to this location if changes are made.

We enjoyed the rides, the 4D movie, all the opportunities to build, and especially the mini model of Phoenix. I was also very impressed by how clean and well-spaced everything felt despite it being a very hands-on place. The reason it did not get 5 stars for me was the amount of employees and subsequently the wait times. Not counting those in training, the first ride had 2 employees, the second had 1, and the mosaic room had 1. Each ride also had one person in training, which will be very beneficial for them. Having more employees available overall would have been great. For example, in the Merlin ride which has flying vehicles that can go up and down, there was one employee that seemed experienced and the trainee. There were 6 vehicles that could fit up 2 at a time. We witnessed the ride cycle through twice before our turn and we timed that it took us 30 minutes before we rode. The ride itself was maybe 2-3 minutes in its entirety. It took that long for the employees to load everyone on, check seatbelts, run the ride, and then unlock and release the people that just finished. Here is what I would change: have a designated employee at the entrance that counts off whoever is going on the next ride and prep them while the prior ride is going. That means take the measurements, ask who is riding (adult w/child, etc.), and explain the rules. Once the prior ride finishes, both the employee from the entrance and an employee from the exit enter the ride area to unlock the passengers, one for the outside guests and one for the inside. Then let the new passengers enter and repeat the seatbelt check cycle. Resume positions and start again. If I was to go again the first thing I would correct was to wait on going on the second ride. Get there early and knock the rides out first to save you time. I sincerely hope they find a way to operate faster because this place is super cool and without the long wait time, I would be way more likely to return. It is a great way to spend a day indoors during the AZ summer!

I like that after your race, you can get your results up at the counter inside to see where you ranked, your fastest lap, etc. I had one incident on my last race where I spun out and then someone hit me at full force. The flag guy ran over to make sure I was OK. My pride made me tell him yes, I was fine but it actually hurt. But I'm a big girl and can handle getting roughed up a little. LOL Thankfully it happened on my last race because my car did not handle too well after that - it shook terribly. I felt that the staff were patient, helpful and want everyone to have a good time. Our only issue was that we waited forever for our last race. They never called our names and group after group after group went on the course. Turns out they had somehow forgot about us. Also on Fridays, they do something called foodie Friday in which you're able to try one thing from each vendor at a price of five dollars. Typically the items were a smaller version as this was more of a sample as opposed to trying to get really full. Going into this, I knew that I wanted to at least have a corn dog and my friend definitely wanted a funnel. On this occasion, we were able to find parking nearby, which cost $10 at a church. That was probably about a four block walk away and totally worth saving 10 bucks. And also the church even gave us a ride to the halfway point but you had to walk all the way back. This parking was located on McDowell between 14th and 15th Ave. For food, I tried the mini corn dog, the mini Elote, the pork slider and a dole whip. All these items were on the five dollar menu for the evening and pretty much they were all worth it except for the mini Elote that was kind of a rip off even at five dollars. I will say what I did notice that the fair prices for food are very expensive. If I would just be coming our normal regular hours you would expect to pay at least $14 for an item. I did notice something new this year is that each vendor/Location had a $10 value menu. However, the prices for most of the menu items were pretty expensive. My friend got some different things from the five dollar foodie menu, including a mini funnel cake, mini donuts, a spicy noodle dish and she also got the pork slider. She enjoyed everything that she got except for the sweet and spicy noodles because they were just too sweet. Overall, we really enjoyed our food experience and we definitely had a good time taking advantage of all the free exhibits and shows that the fair had to offer. On this occasion, we were able to see a hypnotist who was fantastic and that was a really good show. We also got to see a dangerous stunt show and that was pretty entertaining and the guy was pretty much a crack up. Lastly, we were able to visit some of the vendors and I was able to pick up some CBD (for sleeping with CBN, no THC), some local honey and also and almond candy apple to take home. All in all, this was a really good experience, I don't really trust fair rise anymore cause I just seen too much in my life. However, I will say they had a very diverse amount of rides and it seemed like it would be really worth it if you got unlimited ride pass. Especially if you go before everyone gets there. Being that it was a Friday night and I didn't want no drama. We left that fairgrounds by 8 PM. When we were leaving tons of people were just arriving and I'm sure it was a great night.
