I am out of state and the tenant at my property reported leaking pipes from the walls…read more Don went over right away and accessed the situation and he could have easily started opening walls and doing all sorts of repairs. He did not. The service was exceptional and the bill was way less than I expected! It is hard to find the high level of honesty and work ethic that I experienced with McCann. I am so impressed with McCann that I will have them on retainer on any property I own. And highly recommend him. Thanks again Don!!

The lien even includes $150 that his own attached invoice makes conditional on card payment. I never paid by card. I would not hire Don McCann again. PRICE: I received the $5,000 price after the October 5, 2026 installation. The next day I wrote, "Before I can agree to the amount, I need to understand exactly what makes up the $5,000"--and requested labor, material and other costs. His later letter nevertheless called it "the agreed-upon flat fee" and expressly declined itemized labor hours, wholesale material costs and markups. COMPETING ESTIMATE: Another local plumber gave me a rough replacement estimate of $3,200-$3,500--$1,500-$1,800 below Don's $5,000 base charge, before his added fees. That plumber explained the basis: about $1,800 for the tank, roughly five hours at $185 per hour, and about $500 in other materials. He discussed a pan, expansion tank and possible new gas line. This was an estimate, not a fixed-price quote, but it provided the cost explanation I have repeatedly requested from Don. EQUIPMENT: Before work, I sent him my old heater's 50-gallon, 50,000-BTU specification. He installed a 50-gallon Bradford White RG150T6N labeled 34,000 BTU/hr without discussing that reduction with me beforehand. He later cited fit constraints and first-hour performance. I had not approved that lower-input substitution. AVAILABILITY: On October 19 he said the 50/50 would not fit because of the gas piping, so he used "the only thing available that was taller." Ferguson's Anchorage listings that day showed two Bradford White and 73 A. O. Smith 50-gallon/50,000-BTU heaters for pickup. That does not establish October 5 stock or that either would fit unchanged. But he did not discuss alternatives with me before choosing the lower-input unit. EXTRA TIME AND REWORK: He cited an extra 2 1/2 hours to justify the price, then declined to break down labor hours and material costs because he uses flat-rate pricing. My recordings show a first replacement prepared, tried in the alcove and exchanged. I specifically asked whether the exchange and repeated work were included in my bill. I still have no clear accounting. COMPLETION: His sworn lien states "Date work was completed: October 5, 2026." My camera shows him back working at the heater on October 6; inspection approval followed October 7. His stated completion date does not account for that follow-up work. URGENCY: His sworn lien says the work was performed "at the urgent request of the Owner." I made no such urgent request and did not authorize an emergency premium. His October 6 text instead said: "I could see that it's a B&B. And you need it up and running quick for the Housekeeper and the renter." His assumption about my rental business was not an emergency instruction from me. I reported a leak; attributing an urgent request to me misrepresents what I asked for. FEES: His revised invoice offered Venmo without a fee and added $150 for card payment. The lien recorded October 21 claimed $5,150 and attached that same conditional-fee invoice. A separate letter demanded $5,250, including $250 in administrative and legal fees. Those are different amounts in different documents; I dispute both. ALASKA LAW AND HIS OWN DEADLINES: His signed notice said a lien would be filed "in ten (10) days after delivery of this Notice as per Alaska Statutes." There is no such ten-day statutory waiting requirement in Alaska's mechanics'-lien law. His notice arrived October 17, putting its stated filing date at October 27. He recorded the lien October 21--just four days after delivery. He invoked Alaska law to give his deadline authority, then recorded the lien six days before the date his own notice specified. Both discrepancies are documented in his signed notice and the public recording record. My questions about the price and equipment were straightforward. His replies did not resolve them before he recorded the lien. I found the communication and billing transparency unacceptable. If you have time and its the summer, I'm not so struggling anymore. I work a little extra at my job to pay for good work from a professional. Central Plumbing and Heating are on my short list, along with: Big O's Spenard Builders Supply and Young's Gear. Mike stopped by and brought some rickety plumbing issues created by me 12 years ago, up to standard. When you are out of town at work and your family is at home at minus 30.... you tend to worry about the quality of your own work. Very fast, Friendly, Clean work, minimal mess. and humor from an old guy. ( I'm old, I can say that) Thank you Mike for a great service call. loren

Do I really need to update my five star review to be another five star review?? Probably not, but it's worth it in my book when they're so ridiculously helpful and all around awesome to work with! Earlier this summer, we purchased everything we needed for gas heat and a wood stove for our new workshop build at our house. During our research and pricing, we were told about an annual sale, so we put it on our calendar and purchased everything earlier than we needed to. Saving money is a good thing! As we were finally getting to installing the beautiful wood stove and opening boxes, an 18" pipe was dented and I was so worried they wouldn't replace it... however they did without question. They were so apologetic for not opening the box before they sent it home with us and causing us inconvenience. We got everything installed and decided we wanted to add some extra support and brace the pipe on the roof. I called to get a quote and availability; they had what we needed in stock and were also cheaper than what Home Depot had on their site and we didn't have to wait two weeks for it to ship. We walked in and were greeted by both first and last name... AWESOME! There was playful banter back and forth and all was wonderful. We walked out with what we needed, a 5% military discount and smiles all around!

The short and sweet: excellent customer service and communication, very long waits to get an…read moreappointment, good warranty on service, underwhelming experience and performance, high priced that is probably the going rate for Anchorage. I have had them come and do three different jobs: annual maintenance on a boiler, service inspection on an ERV/Home ventilation system, and quote to replace an HRV/Home ventilation system. The annual maintenance on the boiler was a little problematic. Making the appointment was easy, they are really quick and efficient about the booking process. The plumber showed up exactly on-time and communicated when he was en route. The plumber identified a faulty expansion tank and offered to replace it immediately. All good experience to that point even though the price was a little high. After he completed the work I found that he left a valve in the wrong position, turned down my boiler too low, didn't change out the back flow preventer (which leaked when the water supply was turned back on), and my in-floor heat controller was in an error state due to a bad sensor that he never caught. I called them back after he left (and a friend who knows boilers took a look at the work). Diamond at least sent the plumber back out a few days later to inspect and correct the issues at no extra cost. Grade A customer service, grade C for the plumber making the mistakes. I also had someone come and inspect my broken HRV system. The guy said it was too old and couldn't be fixed. What he meant was, "I don't feel like doing the work to fix it". After a few hours of taking apart and investigating I found the problem was a bad motor, found a replacement motor on Amazon, put everything back together and my old HRV system was up and running for $200. Diamond wouldn't even quote me a price to fix the HRV. I had Diamond send someone out to quote me a replacement cost for that same broken ERV system. They quoted me something around $5,000. As I stated, I was able to fix the old one for $200, so I didn't bite. The guy who came out to quote me for the replacement didn't really know the difference between an HRV and an ERV. Overall, Anchorage doesn't have many options for boiler/ERV technicians. I like Diamond's preferred customer program, that I get bumped to the front of the line if I have an emergency. If I lived in the lower-48 I'd probably look for another company.

He checked out furnace and said old unit. Went to shop to see if he could get part. Gone more than 30 minutes. Got back and said this part better work. At 4:30 showed my husband broken part. Said couldn't weld or do anything to unit. I started calling multiple vendors in town to get new furnace installation bids. My husband took broken part to friend for help. When returned I'm on a second level up in our home and hear a screaming match in my garage. I walked down and tech was yelling at my husband- appeared to be getting very aggressive. I said why are you yelling at my husband? He said I have to get paid. I said you have a credit card on file-bill us. We asked him to leave. My husband took broken part to welder and Anchorage plumbing and heating fixed my furnace in a hour while Diamond had us spend miserably cold night in house with no heat. Temperature inside next am was 42 degrees. Stay away from this company. Our experience was brutal and they want to charge us $100 more for doing nothing except leaving us without heat. If I could rank them zero,I would. Terrible experience!
