TL;DR version: Stick with the basic pies. There's also a good nonna/grandma slice. Any slice with a lot of toppings will be on a much thicker base, which is a bit too doughy. This is a pizza place that's been around for a while. They used to have only the main storefront, but I believe, based on the sign and the menu, that they own Fresh Basil's Trattoria next door, which used to be a Johnny Rockets and most recently, a diner specializing in seafood. Speaking of that trattoria, they do sell a lot of Italian-American classics, such as pasta and other related dishes, but I would recommend sticking with the pizza here. I've been here almost every time for lunch because they have a reasonably priced lunch special that includes two slices and a fountain drink. It used to be $7.50 for two plain, or for an extra 50¢, two Sicilians. This then went up by a dollar to $8.50 or $9, and as of the most recent, I believe it's $9 for either choice. They also added, at one point or another, a combination of any slice of pizza and a selection of 1 salad, including Caesar, Tricolore, House Garden, and Della Cassa, if I recall correctly, for $12. For all these combos, you can pay tax-free if you pay in cash. They were also serving Chicken Parmesan for $15.95 or $16.95 as one of their lunch specials, which didn't look right for take-out but tasted pretty solid with an OK vodka sauce, and it was a very large portion for that price point. As you can imagine from the special, I've mostly stuck with the two plain slices, though I'm tempted to do the salad special another day. The plain slice is the best idea, with a thin crust, a mild chew, and just enough color on the bottom. The tomato sauce is the highlight here, not overly sweet, and with good brightness and acidity. There is also plenty of cheese, but not too much that it feels too heavy. If you are going to get a non-plain slice, I would recommend their Grandma. It's an excellent version that highlights their tomato sauce, which isn't overly sweet and is pretty bright and acidic. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend slices with a bunch of toppings like the Angry Nonna or mushroom and spinach, as the dough is much thicker. I presume this is to keep the slice from falling apart, but I find the latter slices a bit too doughy, which reminds me a little bit of the terrible chain pizza place up the block, Little Italy Pizza. If you need a unique slice and don't mind some doughiness, the Pestorita isn't bad either, available with or without pepperoni. While definitely not my favorite pie I've ever had, it's a good standard pizza and a prototypical NYC plain slice. I went over to a friend's house today for lunch, and she decided on ordering in from Cassiano's. It was my first time hearing about this place, but my friend recommended it, so I of course had to give it a try. We ordered a small Neapolitan pie through Seamless, as well as 2 cans of soda and two orders of garlic knots. Our food arrived relatively quickly, in what seemed like half an hour or less. Very speedy service. For the small pie, it comes with 6 slices, which was the perfect portion when split between the two of us. First of all, the pizza was divine. And, as someone who was born and raised in NY, I know a slice is successful when you fold it and it doesn't flop downwards. This pizza was perfect, with no flop, so bonus points for that! As for the garlic knots, those also did not disappoint. They had a slight crisp on the outside from being in the oven, but they were soft and moist on the inside. In my opinion, they didn't even need to be dipped in sauce they came with, because they were that moist and flavorful on their own. Ive been going to cassiano's lately and now feel good enough to post this review today i tried the shrimp caesar wrap and it was so good the shrimp was nicely grilled lettuce nice and crisp and the wrap was not dripping in dressing! the fries are amazing as well fresh and crisp and the doughnut light airy and fluffy, my grandma / nonna slice was so good i forgot to snap it before i ate it so just imagine a perfectly crisp perfectly sauced fresh slice and you're there! lastly the customer service here is very good too! they're efficient , and the piece de resistance , and they have the 12 oz tall boy diet cokes! dont come running in here and buying them all up now please! I found my plain cheese slice to be very underwhelming as the sauce was completely lacking flavor. I felt like I was just eating cheese and bread. The slice was substantial so I felt full when I was done ... but I wish I had stopped eating immediately so that I'd have room left over to go elsewhere and try a different slice. I know from reading here that the experiences of others have been quite different, so maybe I just hit them on a bland sauce day, but I wasn't impressed so I won't be back. Beyond the food, the behind the counter were very friendly so I did not experience the "rude staff" others have complained of. The inside of the place is fairly unremarkable, but the counter staff here seemed friendlier than at most other pizza-by-the-slice establishments in the city. I had a slice of the "meat lovers" for lunch, which was quite tasty, very filling, and required a small pile of napkins and a hand-washing after eating. As we were leaving, I started chatting with a guy behind the counter who seemed like either a manager or owner sort of person, although he was on the younger side. First time ordering from seamless from here tonight. I ordered the meatball appetizer (comes with three meatballs in marinara) and the create your own 9" personal pizza. The pizza was $9.95, I just got cheese. The meatballs were $6.95. The meatballs arrived warm. They were moist and tasty. The marinara was warm and salty. They sent a small container of Parmesan cheese which I sprinkled on. That wasn't fresh. But overall, great. The pizza arrived more on the cool side. I like that they have their own pizza boxes. Tried to ask for a cup of ice with my warm overpriced soda. After spending 12 bucks for two special slices and a soda didn't think I'd be told 50 cents. It was the manner in the way the guy yelled at me. I stayed at the Courtyard hotel near this restaurant and decided to order pizza because we were obviously hungry! The large pizza was huge! I'm not sure what real NY pizza tastes like but this pizza was the best I have ever had. At home the pizzeria style pizza is always greasy. Cassiano's pizza was not. The pepperoni was not greasy but was full of flavor, the sausage as well. The service was quick and friendly too. The place was also very clean. Beware if paying by credit card. They are asking for your personal PIN number. I told the guy politely that i will not give him my pin and he said well you do not have on gloves, i whipped out my glove and entered my pin to which he continued by telling me "trust me i don't need to see your pin" but he was asking for it.. Clearly he is either a racist or has anger issues or both. but you should see how he reacted when i refused to tell him my pin. he took offense and cursed and slammed and pushed furniture around and came around the counter and stormed out the store yelling " i should've locked the door he saw me" what did he mean by that? I'll let you figure it out. I wasn't scared at all, i stood right there till my pizza was ready and as i left i was told to never come back. And then i had a few choice words for him. Anyway I reported them to the correct agency and they will be doing an investigation because by law they are never to ask you for that number. I'm surprised at such a mediocre rating! I ordered delivery when I was in New York earlier this year and forgot to review it. I crave New York style pizza which is frustrating since I live in Chicago. According to my Grubhub receipt, I had one slice of Neopolitan with meatball, a small white pizza and a grandma slice. Before you think I'm a complete fatass, I promise that I remember only having the two slices and one piece of white pizza that night and the rest the following day. All three were really incredible-- grandma slice is impossible to find here so I was most looking forward to that and it didn't let me down. We do have Neopolitan pizza here but the meatballs on this were better than most. All of this was fairly priced too especially since it was a solid two meals worth of food. Anyway, wanted to throw them a good rating for being open late and delivering to my hotel room. There are so many good pizza places in Manhattan so it's hard to say I'd order from them again but I definitely wouldn't be against it. read more

Cassiano's inspired me to join Yelp! Yes, indeed they did! 10/10/23 meandering the streets for a meal close to my hotel, and disappointed at all of the dried out pies displayed in the nearby pizza shoppes, a clerk in Duane Reade recommended Cassiano's within walking distance about three blocks. I ventured North and I was immediately struck by the well lit and clean frontage of the establishment. The displayed pie / slice selection was of large variety, aesthetically displayed, and exuding the appearance of "freshness"! Upon entering, I observed an immediate, as well as an adjacent room, for accommodating any amount of clientele. But, what struck me was the well-lit cleanliness and Italian food aroma in the air. The ambiance was strikingly warm and welcoming, and the obvious decisions made throughout this restaurant were all very 'detail-oriented' and, from this, I inferred they are sincere about their presentation and service and product; from the decor, to the selected pizza boxes, bags, and utensils, to their logo graphics/fonts/colors on their boxes, the well displayed appearance, and size of their food -THEY CARED. So, the food: I ordered a slice of "Pepperoni & Fresh Mozzarella Chicago Deep Dish Pie", and a standard slice of their "Neapolitan Cheese Pizza" [to investigate their standard cheese and sauce character], and an "Insalata Della Casa w/ Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing" to include some ruffage with my meal. WOW! Delicious!!! But, I have to add that it was a very difficult decision to make given the broad selection of delectables to choose from. And, given that "Nick" was so patient, polite, and well informed, as he decomposed each menu item to the detail that my hunger and palate desired everything he described. Additionally, from the chef cooking the pies, to "Nick", and the senior gentleman present, of whom I had contact with each -They were all very kind, and very customer service oriented. Lastly, I was pleasantly astonished at the exceedingly honest and fair pricing of each of the items I selected and the items I observed upon their extensive menu. I mean their pizza, by many standards, can [and should] be considered 'gourmet quality' - my salad was composed of fresh greens, select herbs, and select accenting vegetables and a Balsamic dressing to die for! This wasn't just iceberg and cherry tomatoes thrown together. And, the size of the slices and the volume of the salad placed its value well above the monetary amount I had to pay. And, finally, all of the food was spectacular. And, selecting the standard slice was rewarding as I had the opportunity to relish in their homemade sauce of tangy -but with a hint of grabbing sweetness that always makes a great slice such a unique taste memory you want to return to. So, yes, Cassiano's inspired me to join Yelp. I would have felt guilt if I did not applaud their efforts at attempting to obviously be one step [or much higher] above the typical New York City Pizza Parlor you may find on almost every NYC street or corner. I like pizza. No, I love pizza. And while I hate to crap on restaurants, I almost feel like I owe the public some sort of a warning. This is actually the worst pizza I've had in Manhattan. 0 appealing factors. None. Nada. Had their regular and margherita. Couldn't finish a slice of either one. Cassiano's is great for a quick slice! It's a busy place so you usually always get a slice straight out of the oven. They have a good selection of pies. If your getting 5 slices you might as well order the whole pie which is 8 slices because it's the same price. I think the guy at the register is the owner because he's always there and nice older man. I think this is a great place however I'm giving it 4 stars because I know there is better pizza in New York but this is great if your on the go! read more

I've never written a Yelp review before (and I suspect that I never will again), but I felt a furious obligation to inform New Yorkers about the crooks running Cassiano's. I was suspicious about the slice of my order, and when I ask for my receipt from them I saw that they had charged me for much, much more expensive slices. When I pointed out that I believed they'd accidentally overcharged me, they insisted that they hadn't and wouldn't give me a refund. They're sole explanation was that on their register a white slice is nicknamed "salad." This might be Manhattan, but no paper plate pizza place in the city should be charging $5 for a single white slice. Steer clear. There's a much better place one block south. Do yourself, your wallet, and honest pizza makers a favor and go there. read more

Best pizza I've had (to date) in NYC. Sauce was tangy and homemade, regular crust was not too think, toppings were fresh. The pizza was not overly greasy or salty. Cheap sauces make the consumer feel thirsty after dining, which speaks directly to low quality ingredients etc. Not Cassiano's. Very good quality food and I will definitely dine again. read more

Rudest people ever. I walked in at 2:30 AM for a fresh slice of pizza, saw a few good reviews. Honestly I am appalled. There were 2 people in there eating, 3 people "working" but not doing a damn thing. There was one disgusting old thick-crust pizza that had probably been there for hours, and nothing else. I asked how long until there was literally ANYTHING fresh, he said ten minutes then I stood there for ten minutes and watched the 3 of them not lift a finger. 10 minutes go by, they basically laughed in my face if I asked if it was almost ready.
