We were craving some Persian food and soon found Caspian Grill not too far from Domain/Uptown Austin. We ordered the Mirza ghasemi, Tah digh, Lamb shank, Lamb shawarma wrap, Caspian flatbread and Baklava. No surprise the lamb shank and shawarma were winners but the Caspian flatbread was a secret star. We wanted to dip every last pita in the mirza ghasemi. We will be back! read more

I first discovered Caspian Grill when one of my friends suggested we meet for lunch. Naturally, being a huge fan of this type of cuisine, I was thrilled to pop in and give it a go....not disappointed at all! I have had the Bademjan, a thick hearty and utterly delicious stew, the Eggplant and Herbs which is great if you love eggplant, although it has a very strong flavor of herbs and mint, and the Lamb Shawarma plate which is tasty, tasty, tasty (although I would not be opposed to a little more lamb!) The only thing I will take a star away for is the lackluster service. It was nigh on impossible to speak with an employee to request something like water, to place your order, or to request the check. I've only ever spoken with one person here and she just seemed a little off putting from the get-go. Even today when I stopped in to pick up an order to go (and support a place I love during this crazy time!) she just seemed incredibly disinterested in speaking with me or even having me there to pick up my order. During these tough times it's hard to find restaurants that still provide good food, cooks change, management changes. Incredibly tasty food served by attentive, hospitable staff. Get the tah digh...who knew that crispy rice could be so flavorful?! I am part Lebanese and my family makes some dang good Mediterranean, but I had never had Persian/Iranian food before. I assumed Persian food would be more of the same, but it was very different and extremely delicious. What a treat! They layered flavors at this restaurant in ways that I haven't seen before. The food here is outstanding and we've loved everything we've tried so far but it must be said that the prices are way out of line with the lack of table service, paper plates, and to-go packaging for everything. Covid was long enough ago that it's time organize the restaurant again and hire staff (if needed) so it doesn't feel like you are eating in a well decorated storage room. read more

To my surprise this restaurant is take out only and I'm sure this review would be different if the food was eaten at the restaurant. I was craving some lamb so I went with the lamb shank. I ordered the Vegan eggplants, lentil soup, and Turkish coffee. The eggplants was a bit oily but has a good taste(tried it for the first time). I ordered to go and the oil dripped all in the plastic bag. Lentil soup is good and so is the coffee. I plan on trying this place again and maybe I can give more stars. This place is closed for dine in so you have to order online. I called to order and I was told they don't take over the phone orders. This is the best Persian food in Austin! Very accommodating to food preferences, have vegan, and gluten free options. Recommend the beef and chicken kabobs and the eggplant and egg appetizer. If you have a Resturant not a takeout or carry out place you have to put in plates and dishes not carry out styrofoam , second chicken kebab has saffron in it and should be able to taste it , koobideh was okay but wouldn't run back for it and the food was prepared so fast even the restaurants in Tehran wouldn't be able to match , I think the place is owned by an accountant not a foodie and maybe he is watching his cost . Delicious food, fantastic service! The highlight of the meal was the saffron ice cream!

Don't judge a book by its cover, this phase suits this place perfectly. The little strip mall is rundown but once inside, you are in the Middle East food heaven. The woman who owns the restaurant spend two years perfecting her recipes. It was well worth it. Her Uncle who served us was a wealth of knowledge on the food we ordered. We started with the Mirza Ghasemi (eggplant and herbs). Please note they ask if you are vegan, if no, then they place a fried egg on top. Don't confuse this with Baba Ghanoush, it is similar but taste way better. Of course, we choose the Fesenjan and Ghormeh Savzi for entrees. Both are Persian stews that are much more flavorful than any stew I have ever eaten. The chicken in the Fesenjan was so tender that it broke apart with a fork. You can taste the pomegranate but it doesn't overpower the stew. Please note that this is great the next day as a leftover. BF thought the Ghormeh Sabzi didn't have a beef taste to it. I have to agree, the herbs here are the star. Not bad but I like my stew much better. Both stews were served with lots of rice. We couldn't leave without dessert. Who can resist Akbar Mashti (Persian ice cream). The yellowish color is from the saffron but the taste is from Rose Water. In case you are wondering what the white chunks mixed in are, think frozen whipped cream. This is a must try place for unique dishes. Prices are reasonable. I daydream about their beef koobidehs every single day. They serve a really generous amount of rice but even then it's never enough for how good everything tastes. Awesome! We submitted a huge dinner order through their website and it was ready within 30 minutes. Everything was delicious, but the bademjan (beef and eggplant stew) and Caspian flatbread were by far our favorite--so flavorful and such a nice balance of different spices. And the lamb shank was cooked to perfection -- wonderfully tender. In addition to that, we got the persian salad, mixed koobideh, ash reshteh stew, and grilled vegetables. Four entrees and two sides plus a mountain of rice and flatbread and garnishes cost us about $90 plus tip for four people and we had lots of leftovers. We will definitely be back! read more

Update : March 2018 There's no decline in quality whatsoever. There's some kinks to work out with the wait staff- there's exactly one waiter manning all the tables so that's slightly inconsistent. Additions to the vegetarian menu: Zaatar bread : pita topped with feta, onions, tomatoes and yogurt with spices and baked - so savory, so flavorful. ---------/-------------/------------------ I just kicked myself for not coming here before today. How on earth did I miss out on this place!?! Granted, it is tucked away between a curves and a liquor store on oak knoll, but that's no excuse! Shame on me!!! My husband visited this place a couple of days back and kept raving about the food. I see why he did that. As you all know, Persian food is healthy AF. And for vegetarians such as myself, there's a ton of pig out options. But what differentiates this place from others is the subtlety of flavors. We started off with the eggplant appetizer (first thing on the menu) and some Persian tea. The appetizer wasn't butt fire spicy, it just had a little kick to it with amazing flavor. A lot like babaganouj without the creamy stuff, you know? Since I've never tried a vegan kabob before, we decided to try that. To those of you who are curious- it's two long strips of soy/ seitan (one of those vegany things) grilled with spice , which sadly included cinnamon, for which I have something against. The plate comes with saffron rice, two kabobs and some salad. It's probably enough to feed an army, but hey, that's just me. There were a couple of other interesting entrees on the menu, but I'll have to wait until next time to try them out. Their menu isn't completely typed up yet- they don't have liquor and dessert listed. But I did notice a full bar, and a wine rack. I am not sure why this place was empty, though. The service was good, it's clean, the food is excellent - could it be their location? I'm not here to over analyze that, though. I'm just saying, get off ur butts and come in here, eat and be happy. Our first time @ Caspian Grill was so disappointing- we were one of only two couples dining in, although the food - Gyro Salad and the Chicken stew - took a good long while to come out. Our appetizer (marinated olives) came out with entrees served in a closed styrofoam container - not appealing or very good. They were buried in a strange thick briny gravy that cost us $10. The stew meat was tender but dry and I'm not sure it was even chicken (maybe porK) and also in a thick dark gravy mixture. The salad was lacking in dressing and when we asked for more, we had to pay an extra $2.50 for maybe 2 TBS. I had to remind staff that I ordered a turkish coffee so did not get it until late in the meal - it was served in a to-go type cup with a top - I was not prepared for it to be literally boiling hot to the point that a small sip severely burned the roof of my mouth (a warning would have been nice). Not at all sure it is worth a 2nd try. read more

The Caspian Grill is a hidden gem just outside of downtown Austin. This locally owned Iranian restaurant is truly worth visiting and has wonderfully authentic Persian food. The Kashke Bademjoon was a perfect blend of spices with delicious garnishes. The garlicky delight left you craving more and more. As for entrees, each option was so tender and delicious without any taste of gaminess that I was constantly going back for seconds and thirds! The kabob koobideh was my personal favorite. The Joojeh kabob was also tender and juicy and left a decadent saffron and buttery taste in my mouth. Of course, no Persian dinner would be complete without Persian ice cream! This sweet treat is one of my favorites, and the Caspian Grill surely did not disappoint. The ice cream was especially creamy with fresh chunks of sweet cream and reverted me back to the homemade ice cream of my childhood. Best Persian food ever!!!! We bought different varieties of food ( Fish and herb rice, beef kebab, soy kebab, kashk bademjan and etc...) and all of them were delicious. We ordered also different kinds of bakery items; they were soooo delicious and beautiful. Their decorations were BEAUTIFUL and they are very nice people. Reasonable price, great quality, and great variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options! Update: Not only Caspian Grill provides delicious food in their restaurant, their do great job with Catering. We catered food for our Nowruz Celebration that you can see some of them in the pictures. Really DELICIOUS dishes and wonderful presentation! I personally love the vegan gheimeh stew!! Also the beef and chicken kababs were so popular. I'm shocked I haven't reviewed this place yet. This is my favorite restaurant of all time. There's a crazy amount of vegan food and none of it is vegan just for vegans sake. The eggplant stew is my personal favorite but the beef stew with French fries is also an amazing go to. I have never been disappointed with anything I've had here. The service is AMAZING my husband doesn't like tomatoes and asks for stuff without fresh tomato on it and they PICK IT OUT OF THE SALAD. We always say they don't have to and it's okay just a preference but they still do. It's amazing. The ambiance is very authentic and Persian. I love that they have music videos on the TVs but they don't even play the music. It's just fun to watch. This place is awesome and amazing and I recommend it to every single person ever. read more

Had a great take out experience! Went there for some take out on a rainy day and right after I paid, the nice cashier Hossen (I'm sorry if I spelled it wrong!) actually offered me a cup of their Persian tea while I wait. The tea was warm and has an interesting floral fragrant and man does it feel so good on a wet, rainy day! I ordered the chicken tender and ground beef kebab combo and roasted eggplant with bread. While everything tasted good, I especially enjoyed the chicken kebab - it was tender and moist and very flavorful! Will definitely come back to try out more stuffs! read more

Great options for gluten free! The lentil soup was excellent. Their koobideh is gluten free. It wasn't as flavorful as some of the other Persian restaurants, but it was still good. The restaurant was beautifully decorated in Persian decor. They even sell small Persian rugs for $500. I'm glad Caspian Grill is an option since Alborz closed. read more

There's not much really to say. I got the fries which had no salt or flavor, the chicken shawarma plate that had a lot of sauce and yet still no flavor. Half a piece of pita but up into 5/6 slices. No flavor. And a not very "Texas sized" baklava. Which was a normal sizing. read more
