Fesenjan. A sweet and sour stew with walnuts and pomegranate. Simply amazing.
John S.

The day before I popped into this place, a friend told me about a Persian dish called Fesenjan. It is stewed chicken with walnuts and pomegranate served over rice. Serendipitously I came across the Caspian Grill and sure enough they had it on their menu. It was fantastic. It was bright and rich and full of depth. The restaurant was clean, open and inviting, and the staff were super friendly.

Love this place and so glad we found a Persian restaurant with such great food. The chicken and koobideh kabob were both so juicy and flavorful and honestly so good. I also loved the Persian decor and little touches throughout the restaurant because it made the space feel even more warm and authentic. The owner was super kind and welcoming which made the experience even better. We will definitely be back and I have already been recommending it to friends. They also offer catering which is amazing and we will absolutely keep them in mind for future events.

Incredibly delicious. The owner is very well educated on absolutely everything on the menu, has good insight in what we're about to pick out, including secret menu options. The place is very peaceful.

I've never been to Iran. But I love the crisped up rice at the bottom of a pan, such as those found at the bottom of bibimbap bowls or clay pot rice dishes. Here, Tahdig is purposefully made as a menu item. It's nicely brown and quite crunchy. Previously, I had only ordered items to-go, stopping in briefly to pickup. But one day, I decided to stop in for an early dinner. Upon entry it is eerily quiet, but you'll notice to decor, rugs, metallic objects. For sitting, pick a table anywhere. The menus are located under the glass. Read, decide, and pick what you want. If it comes with rice, do you want regular, barberry, raisin carrot? Nabbed some Ghomeh Sabzi. Those dried limes give off a nice bitter and sour flavor. +1 for the Tadig that comes it, and I got it with barberry rice to have a nice savory and sour rice base. Also grabbed the mixed koobideh--the minced skewered meats are great. Comes with JamesFarm salted butter, a grilled tomato, and mint. Pretty delicious. Sprinkled with a nice dusting of sumac to provide that nice zesty and tangy flavor. Food comes served on paper plates, but they do provide silverware. I'll have to make a mental note to come here more often.

First time our family tried Peruvian and Iranian cuisine, and it was absolutely wonderful. This place is truly a hidden gem--we'll definitely be back on our next road trip. Dr. G, thank you again for sharing your wisdom with us. We genuinely appreciated the conversation.

Great food & sweet man behind the counter. Ambiance feels true to the food experience. Would go back again.

We already love this restaurant because the food is perfection. We had them cater a large party and you can tell they just love what they do. The way they put together the dishes is a work of art!! The guests absolutely loved the food.

Week two of three of my fruit, vegetables and grains fast. Fortunately, Austin has a plethora of vegan / vegetarians restaurants to satisfy my fast cravings. Therefore, I decided to try Caspian grill, at the SE corner of research and Oak Knoll. Pictures of lentil soup has been dancing in my head. In addition, I love beets and those were apart of my vegan fantasy. Both dishes had fragrant tastes with a bit of vinegar flavoring...quite different in a very good way. In an effort to support sustainability and keep costs down, food is served on paper plates. Sometimes one may expect a culinary experience and get a bonus. Today was one of those days - culinary experience + cultural immersion. This restaurant was eclectic with some unique artifacts - copper soldiers, roses water container and a tiled wall that looked like a Persian rug most from Iran. Sean my server was very generous in sharing insights regarding the pieces...very enjoyable! While it was an an early dinner, I was the only person in the restaurant. Important to note the online menu is a bit lower in price than online menu in the restaurant. During these economic times, it's important to support small businesses. Give them a try...

The service here was so kind, he was a very nice guy who told us about the restaurants family business. He gave us some great recommendations and asked us how we were doing. We got the eggplant flatbread which had a bunch of yummy toppings on it. I got the lamb shawarma salad which was delicious!! It's a simple salad with really tender lamb off the bone. It's unlike other lamb, this one is very soft and had big pieces. We also got the lamb shawarma wrap which had the same big pieces of tender lamb that melted in your mouth. That combination with the veggies, fresh pita, and sauces was so good. We'd definitely come back here again!! Perfect spot to fill up and feel good after!

Fesenjan. Chicken in pomegranate and walnut stew. With a mountain of rice. Excellent.

This is literally my favorite restaurant in Austin. I have eaten a lot of middle eastern food in various (western) countries. I know it well. What's so great about this place is all of the non traditional stews you don't get just anywhere. I literally get a different meal every time and have always loved them. Thanks Caspian Grill!

the dishes were kind of dry in general. the lamb shank was a bit tough, we were expecting fall off the bone tender. Flavors were bland and lacked seasoning. even the Au Jus was not tasty. It really needed a side salad at the very least. Spicy-ness was zero.

Everything is absolutely delicious and freshly prepared. Vegan & gluten free options. Full of flavor. A must for mediterranean lovers. So many options. Can't say enough good things. Needs more customers!!!

Shawn was very nice and the food was very tasty. Thank you for the wonderful dinner. We were there a little past close, but it was no problem.

Service The guy working the truck seemed to be high while taking our orders and making food. That must explain why tacos are $7, they were decently large and that runny age was good. It also took ages to make and get our food. I know vegan food does tend to take longer because of the care process, but this was another level. They did not call our names when the food was ready and it took ages. We even came to check on our food a few times and it was not ready. Ambiance Food truck in the middle of an empty lot. There are quite a few other trucks, but they were all pretty expensive. Bathrooms are decent onsite and there area few tables around the here you can eat. Honestly meh on the location and truck food.

Since I normally loved cooking vegan at home, some of what they served here, especially lentils, matched exactly what I would have cooked. The soup and tea were amazing as well, and there was a piece of paper on the table with explanations about the tea. Even on a Monday in December, this place had everything that I needed. There was a hammock outside, a path to walk on, and a bulletin board with flyers advertising all types of local events that were along the lines of healing and inner peace. That further solidified my perceptions about how this place would attract people whose energies aligned with what this place was trying to surround itself with.

Apr 8, 2026 review:…read more I've been at Nori two times in person and recently tried their to-go order. We got one Austin roll ($22), volcano roll ($15), creamy spicy tan tan ramen ($20), teriyaki sesame tofu yakisoba ($20). I have had their sushi and yakisoba but tried their ramen for first time. I was impressed with their packaging. As you can see in picture, veggies and noodles box was on top and soup at bottom. The only thing I didn't like how noodles became very sticky because of how tight they were packed. So I got it as cold (because I live 30 mins away) and sticky. Ramen came with all the veggies like grilled Chinese broccoli, tofu, sweet corn, marinated shiitake mushrooms, red onions and negi. Yakisoba noodles had the Stir-fried noodles tossed with cabbage, scallion, carrot, marinated shiitake mushrooms, and fragrant negi in a savory house sauce. It was good if you like this type of noodles. Austin roll had Smoked tempeh, tempura tofu, jalapeño, pickles. And on the to Avocado, roasted garlic oil, tempura flakes, smoked paprika, teriyaki. Volcano roll was a deep fried roll which had spinach, avocado, sweet potato. On top: spicy mayo, sweet soy sauce, chili sauce, Caviart and tempura onion. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. We tried the chick'n karaage, impossible gyoza, and a few different speciality roles (austin, manhattan, and another that I can't recall). While the food was really yummy, the drinks were somehow even better. I had an early grey martini that blew me away. Probably in the top 2 best cocktails I've ever had in my life. The best part is all of their drinks (or nearly all of their cocktails) come in three variations which allows you to get them with alchohol, thc, or make it complelely non-alcoholic. BUY IN STORE -- Not online…read more I truly hate writing this review because Rebel Cheese's products are excellent but the fulfillment and customer experience were a mess from start to finish. I ordered a holiday cheese box on December 3 as a Christmas gift. My card was charged immediately. The order never shipped, and I received no communication until I followed up myself, multiple times. After the holidays, I learned (only because I kept pushing) that my order had been internally canceled due to a system glitch, with no email, no refund, and no outreach. I was repeatedly told it would ship on specific dates that came and went. A replacement order was finally sent in January. It arrived late, wet, with melted and ruptured ice packs, and the cheese was very soft to the point my friends weren't sure it was safe to eat. The box also lacked the gift note that was supposed to be included. What bothers me most is that my card would have stayed charged indefinitely if I hadn't chased this down myself. That's not okay especially for perishable food. It's a real shame, because the product itself is great. But based on this experience, I can't recommend ordering gifts or anything time-sensitive unless the fulfillment and communication processes dramatically improve.

I tried to call and got a message that they were too busy to answer the phone and to send an email instead. I sent the email and the reply was We are very busy but doing everything we can to fulfill orders. They promised to overnight any orders not shipped on Monday. On the day before Thanksgiving I found out they did not ship my order and essentially asked that I understand because they are so busy. They offered to ship my order later and they would throw something in for free for my inconvenience. This was a standard poorly written customer communication. I replied and explained how after their reassurances they had left me without my order or sufficient time to find a suitable replacement. This time a got a genuine reply from Luis, but same offer full refund, or some free item. It nice for them that they are so busy that they can't fulfill customer orders on time. My experience was being left holding the bag last minute and not much in the way of an apology.

But just know it's filled with weird taxidermy and novelty items that are one of a kind. But I digress. Back to the food. I would like to tell you I tried everything on the menu as many times as I came here. But alas, only four or five things. Unfortunately, their pierogies are the best thing I've ever had. Not just in Austin, but ever. I am now desperately seeking pierogies that rival FTG's. It's not just the pierogies themselves... but the sauce, it would make angels sing. Every time I tried something new, my heart would long for the pierogies. I finally gave in to my desires and quit trying other new things. I think next time I go back I'm just going to ask strangers if I can have a bite of their food, so I can say I've tried everything. But until then, this review is for what I have tried. After the pierogies. My next favorite things in order. Fried chicken (perfectly crisp bites), jerk chicken (little spicy, not dry, perfect), chilli (so spicy), gnocchi. The cheesecake would technically rank after the pierogies, but because they're a dessert I don't wanna mess up the order here and confuse y'all. The two dudes that work this truck, are here EVERY time. I'm pretty sure the only days they take off is Mondays and Tuesdays. Tell them the girl from Kansas City with a big dog sent to you. Lastly. Rating: 2.7/5 [Postmates delivery]…read more We were so excited to try FTG's food, especially given its high Yelp rating. Unfortunately, it ended up being extremely disappointing. The meats were unforgivably dry, though everything else was good. Steak & Zab ($22): The zab, a mix of green beans, mushrooms, and broccoli tossed in salsa macha with sabayon, was actually enjoyable. I liked the flavors, but it was a bit too creamy/saucy for my husband (likely due to the sabayon). The steak, however, was dry and very chewy. Asian Style Spare Ribs ($17): This came with a 1/3 rack of spare ribs, a Thai cabbage salad, and five-spice fried potatoes. The potatoes were fire, and the salad was solid. But again, the meat missed the mark--super dry for the most part. We tried dipping it in the sabayon and other sauces to add moisture, but it didn't help. The fish sauce glaze didn't come through either. The only redeeming quality was the generous portion size.
