After checking Consumer Reports we decided to visit Casper and try some mattresses. I'm really glad they have a store where you can actually feel the mattresses rather than just talking a chance and hoping you liked the one you ordered online. They all come with a sleep trial period but with such an expensive purchase you kind of want to feel like you are making pretty close to the right decision to begin with. You can make an appointment, but we just decided to drive to the store and walk in. No one else was in there, but the manager, Hans, greeted us and got us onto some beds right away. I'll start with the fact that Hans was kind and helpful and did not pressure us at all to be interested in any particular models. The store is kind of like a mattress dressing room, where they actually put you in a little room and close the curtain while you try the beds which felt like a nice touch. We laid on a few different mattresses but ultimately decided to think about it and come back. I came back another day and went back and forth between the models at least 3 times before making a decision. We decided we liked the Wave Hybrid and they even had one in the back of the store for us to take home right away. It came in a big box but fit in our SUV fine with one of the seats down. Scott and his colleague even loaded it up for me! I had a great experience at the store and it was much nicer than going to a traditional mattress store. I will say having experienced two brands' mattress stores, I felt like the sales reps at Avocado were VERY knowledgeable about the product and offered all of the information before we asked as we lay on the beds. They also offered iced coffee or kombucha. Both stores offered their own unique vibe, Avocados was probably related to the fact that their products are easily twice the price. In any case, if I were to offer some constructive criticism, Casper is not very forthcoming with information about the mattresses. Probably because the materials are not as simple as Wool and cotton, as we all know where those come from. They seem to direct their sales reps back to a script or a web page with information and I had the same experience with the online reps. Time will tell about the quality of the mattress, and mattress reviews are a deep dark hole, so we decided to just trust consumer reports and hope to be happy with the product. read more
