I bought an Avocado Mattress topper for my mother, who is recovering from breast cancer, hoping to help her sleep more comfortably. I went to the Pasadena store with both my parents after doing research online. We quickly decided on the topper we wanted -- the entire process took less than 30 minutes. However, the pickup experience was very disappointing. When it was time to collect the topper, we were told we had to use a hand cart ourselves to move it to our car across the street and then return the cart afterward. There were three staff members in the store, no other customers, yet no one offered to help -- not even to lift the topper onto the cart. My father has ankylosing spondylitis and cannot bend or lift heavy objects, which is visible from his posture. My mother is ill, and I'm a woman myself. It was extremely difficult for us to move the topper on our own. The lack of willingness to help made the experience frustrating and disappointing, especially from a brand that positions itself as caring, ethical, and customer-focused. I don't want to make this about race or bias, but the indifference we felt in the store was disheartening. Avocado's products are great, but I truly hope the company improves its in-store service so that all customers -- especially families with elderly or ill members -- can feel cared for and respected. read more

I wanted to take a moment to share my experiences with the staff at the Washington Square mall location. I primarily worked with Kai. I bought my bed in late October, but it took until January for it to arrive due to backordering issues or something similar. Despite the long wait, the staff was amazing. They always responded promptly and provided updates. They even offered discounts for the inconvenience and demonstrated exceptional customer service throughout the entire experience. I ordered the Luxury Alpaca Wool Mattress Topper for a California King, and the sides are uneven enough that the topper doesn't reach the edges of the mattress in several spots. Because of that, the elastic corner straps don't actually hold it in place. It slowly shifts as you sleep, which makes the bed feel uneven and uncomfortable over time. I contacted customer support and was told this was "within spec" and that there was nothing they could do. That was frustrating considering the topper costs over $1,600. At that price, I expected better construction and more willingness to stand behind the product. read more

Avocado's so called easy return process is flat out misleading. I was told in store that returns were simple and that collection could be arranged. Once I initiated the return, the story changed constantly. I was told it would be collected, then told it would not. I was told to wrap the item, then not wrap it, then wrap it again. I was asked for photos, then more photos, then donation drop offs. I was first sent to a donation location in Anaheim, then told Santa Monica was an option, despite living over an hour away. Instructions changed every time I complied. Nothing moved forward. Apologies were meaningless. This was not confusion. It was obstruction. The process appears designed to delay refunds and wear customers down until they give up. Completely unacceptable. read more

Extremely poor customer service. The major issue with the Pasadena store in particular is that an adjustable frame (as part of an $11,000 order) arrived so noticeably damaged that the white glove team pointed it out. At their suggestion we refused delivery. We cannot get anyone at Pasadena or Avocado to take or return calls, let alone take responsibility and get the problem resolved. Problems are not just at this store but at Avocado in general. E.g., a simple on-line order placed a month ago has had multiple problems and still has not been resolved despite repeated assurances. At this point with well over $11,000 spent, some products delivered, some not, poor customer service, I regret ever going into the store or dealing with Avocado. read more

My husband and I were recently looking for a new mattress, and after hearing great things about Avocado, we decided to visit the Pasadena location to check out their beds. When we walked in, we were warmly greeted by Anto. She briefly showed us around, answered all of our questions, and gave us suggestions as to which mattresses she thought we'd like. She also offered us an in-house coffee or kombucha while we looked around. We were supposed to spend the week trying out different mattresses at other stores, but we ended up buying an Avocado right on the spot, that's how much we loved it. Not only is it super comfortable, but it's also 100% organic / non-toxic and manufactured locally. The company really cares about their carbon footprint as well, which is nice. After we placed our order, Anto told us the mattress would be delivered in about two weeks, but we got it in two days! Pretty awesome! She also told us that we have one full year to try out the mattress and if we don't like it for any reason, we can return it and get a 100% refund. That's amazing! I also like that they donate all returned mattresses to charity. If you're in the market for a new mattress, I highly suggest stopping by an Avocado store. We bought a vegan, organic, hybrid mattress from Avocado a few months ago. The Pasadena shop hadn't opened yet (it's a few days old). Mr. Froyo liked that Avocado is a Certified B corporation, climate neutral, and fair trade certified. It's also a local company. The mattress has been very comfortable. The fabric they use on the mattress is super soft. It's a little firm for me but Mr. Froyo likes a firm mattress. We use their pillows too - super soft exterior again. They've expanded their offerings to include responsible, organic loungewear/clothing and clean beauty. I believe the clothing is stitched in LA. They also sell pillows, organic cotton sheets, mattress toppers, mattress protectors, throws, bed frames, furniture, etc. The shop looks nice - neutral colors, minimal, light wood. They even have kombucha on tap. I'm not sure if this has changed, but we had to wait 2.5 months for our mattress. Also, if you want them to set up your mattress, they won't take your old mattress away. The trial period is a full year and the warranty covers 25 years. We found it very easy to set up the mattress (i.e., take it out of the box, cut off the plastic shrink wrap, unroll, and wait a few hours for it to expand). read more

Hind is kindest and most knowledgable sales person I have ever met and has the greatest energy.. She answered probably a thousand questions I had about every Avocado product in store (sorry I had SO many!) then helped me purchase my first Avocado -- I was here several hours, on two separate days because buying a mattress can be a BIG scary commitment but Hind went above and beyond in EVERY WAY especially by ensuring the mattress would be delivered to my new home on time (it was thank you!) I had been so neurotic about finding a mattress that is A) extremely comfortable and B) as non-toxic as humanly possible as I recover from mold illness and am extremely chemically sensitive. Avocado was probably the most effortless part of my moving journey and it feels good to know I chose a mattress that is improving my health. There is no value. You pay for the best mattress of your life, within months it's like your grandma's 20 year old mattress. Also, don't believe them when they say there is a warranty. If the mattress hasn't collapsed like a taco, they will say it doesn't meet the requirements for a return or refund. After spending right around $14,000 on a bed--you'd think it would be the best ever. It's such a disappointment, but I cannot return it. So I'm going to suffer with it for the next few years and then buy something good. Please don't make the mistake I did. This mattress is all hype and no substance. The staff at the store are great. Local store and met Gloria a sales rep at the Store she was so wonderful and help us with the return process and helped find a more suitable mattress that fit our needs. During the return process Gloria was super helpful. She would email us and we had a great line of communication with her she made the whole process so easy for us. Very high quality bedding. I have done quite a bit of research into latex bedding and did my second purchase of one here for the first time.

I was pretty certain I was going to purchase an avocado mattress, but wanted to test it person first. Unfortunately it was a terrible experience. There were 2 girls in the store being assisted by 2 associates, being offered coffee, drinks, walked through the store etc. I walk in, I'm ignored entirely, no greeting, no one looked in my direction. Immediately after me, another white lady walks in - a third associate looks directly past me as I'm standing 3 feet away from the 3rd customer and she greets her, asks how she can help, if she has questions, offers her a drink, ALL of it. although clearly uninterested in acknowledging me, I need a mattress, so I proceeded to test the mattresses and walked through the store while looking up the information online, because although I walked through the whole store and past every associate multiple times, in the 15 minutes I was there - I was not greeted or looked at ONCE. That's difficult to do "unintentionally" in such a small store. I was finally greeted as I headed towards the exit, but only after every single person had left the store, without a purchase mind you. The associate has the audacity to ask me after 15 minutes of actively ignoring me if I had any questions and I was too shocked to answer. She may have been embarrassed, because she did sheepishly apologize for ignoring me. But how convenient to finally acknowledge me as a person only after every single person has left the building. Also telling, only 7 reviews and 2 of them are racist encounters?? This location/company is in desperate need of diversity, their exclusively white staff is embarrassing. And the amount of token "diverse" images on their social media platforms?? A joke. read more

Beautiful store but as an existing avocado customer, I'm very disappointed with the customer service here. I came in to look at the lightweight vs all seasonal duvet insert. One of the sales associates was talking the couple in front of me and was extremely friendly. Moments after i step in, that couple walked out and that sales associates just TURNED HER BACK on me. WOW and no one even made an eye contact until i had to approach the 3 sales associates just hanged out in the kitchen island area. One of them helped answered the question and said "you can go look at that one it is the lightweight". I'm just surprised by the inconsistency of customer service here. You were being so helpful to the other customer but strangely trying to avoid me. I was so set to get the duvet but having second thoughts from the experience here. Saying it's racism is extreme but I definitely felt unwelcome. It's just shocking to see people of a different skin color in the store getting better treatment. I have purchased the topper, pillow & sheets online during the pandemic and was so excited to be in store to see the items on display. Maybe high hopes lead to this disappointment read more

Clean & accommodating. Loved that we had a chance to test out the mattresses before we decide to spring a couple thousand dollars on a new mattress. It's not cheap, but prices are comparable to other "bed-in-a-box" brands. And if you think about it, the price isn't too bad if you consider the number of hours we spend sleeping. I love the fact it's made of organic materials so no "off-gassing" should be needed when you unpack the mattress. After mulling it over & reading online reviews, I think I'm ready to pull the trigger. Sleep is so important to our overall health and investing in a mattress that supports your back and the environment seems like a no brainer. read more

This review is specifically for Shawn who helped us with our purchase. My husband and I went into the shop with our 3 kids and she was so patient with us. She answered all of our questions (and we had a lot), didn't seem one bit bothered by our 3 kids bouncing around the store and trying the beds. She engaged our kids and even heard our youngest saying how thirsty he was and gave him a bottle of water. She's so nice and friendly. As for the products - I have the Avocado green pillow already that I really like. Great for back and side sleepers. They give you extra stuffing if you want to make it firmer but I like how it came out of the bag. And we are waiting for our mattress. I am excited for it to get here! read more

This company's game is to take orders, bill your card, and then delay delivery until the customer gets very frustrated and aggravated and cancels the order. They then keep a 15% "restocking fee" when they issue a refund. In our case it was $400.00. They probably split the fee with Davis Trucking Co., whom they have apparently contracted to delivery the mattresses. The people at Davis lie constantly, making excuses for the delays. When I had cancelled my order Davis tried to schedule a "hot delivery", then said that I had "refused delivery". By that time I did not trust them or Avocado mattress. Great product. Terrible customer service. You have no tel. number for access to help. The delivery service, XPO, are terrible. We were left without a mattress because the pick-up of the existing one was supposed to be timed with the delivery, but XPO, Avocado's choice of delivery company, changed the delivery date four times. We had to borrow a neighbor's TWIN mattress for over a week, and ultimately returned the Avocado mattress and went to another company for a mattress. What company prevents you from contacting customer support by phone?! Or doesn't respond by email or text? read more

Our old mattress was lumpy and becoming uncomfortable. Gloriah was very helpful in demonstrating the pros and cons of the various models. Gloriah was knowledgeable and patient in answering all our numerous questions. Also, Antonina was helpful and courteous. Although the store has no in-house telephone number, Gloriah responded to all my emails. Because of my arthritis, I needed a new bed that was lower in height. We purchased a California Split King Eco Plus adjustable bed and a Malibu platform frame with 2 twin XL Vegan mattresses and plush topper for me and firm for my spouse. The total height was perfect at 23 inches tall. After sleeping for 2 weeks on the new bed, my arthritis pains are better. And my spouse enjoys separate head and feet settings from mine. In the future. I would return and purchase again from Gloriah. read more

I would not recommend this company. I was really excited about their environmental policy and their store and associates are delightful. However, customer service if you need it after the transaction is almost non-existent. I have been attempting to initiate an exchange (queen for king) for three days. They mostly communicate via chat and will take hours if not days to respond. You can tell the customer service agents are juggling chats because they will leave your chat for hours without resolution. I have never experienced such bad/inefficient customer service. read more

I logged in to Yelp to write a positive review about my experience with Avocado in Pasadena and was really surprised to see any that were less than five stars, but mine is definitely five. I'd mentioned to a like-minded friend that I needed to shop for two new mattresses and she shared about how much she loved her Avocado mattress--that it's super comfortable, manufactured locally--not just in America, but L.A.!, from materials that are organic and NON-TOXIC--safe for people to sleep on, and that they care about their carbon footprint. These are all things I care about. I started exploring Avocado's website and, because my friend had such a good experience and loves her mattress, I felt only a little reluctance about ordering online. At the same time, I found myself debating between two mattress styles and had questions. So when I read that a new store had recently opened it Pasadena, I was thrilled. I went in thinking I'd done my homework--I'd narrowed my choices down to two styles and just needed to ask a few questions about options and try out the mattresses, but after meeting Bri, I discovered that there was definitely more I'd wonder about. She's well informed, was great about hearing what I wanted and asking the right questions, answering all of my many questions, and also allowed my daughter and I to take our time to explore the mattresses on our own. I also wanted an adjustable base for one of my existing bed frames and she clarified differences for me and encouraged me to measure my existing bed frame to be certain the fit was right, before placing an order. I opened my email only a couple hours later and, as Bri had promised, she'd sent me clear and detailed information which included everything I'd asked for pricing on. When I sent her my measurements, she also got back to me quickly after verifying with more than one associate that the adjustable base I wanted would work with my existing bed frame. Bri also set it up so that I didn't have to go back into the store to place my order which was super convenient. Only five days later, my adjustable base and mattress protectors arrived via FedEx, which is perfect because I won't be in hurry to create time to clean out all of the dust under my bed and set up the base before my new mattresses arrive, which Brit estimated at three weeks. After trying out the mattresses in the store, I seriously can't wait because I'm certain they're going to, dramatically, improve my family's quality of sleep. Thanks so much, Bri!!! read more
