My girlfriend and I were actually shopping for a mattress and was about to buy one online from a department store, come to find out there was a 8 week delivery time. We were about to have dinner and had an hour to spare. We walked around, saw this store and decided, why not. The first question we asked was about shipping. Daniel says he could have the mattress delivered that same weekend. This was a wish come true. Here is the thing about Daniel though, he was so well educated and had amazing customer service. We told him our problems with our bodies and current mattress and showed us all the mattresses that would help. He compared each one with us, we were able to test it out, and we ended up purchasing a Dura-pedic Designer Elite mattress topper. MY GOD, WORTH THE MONEY. We got it at a July 4th discount. Delivery did indeed happen that Saturday! It's been a few weeks since and my girlfriend and I appreciate Daniel's knowledge! I'm really surprised by all the great reviews of this mattress store. As others have noted, they have marked up their prices quite a bit and then will lower it dramatically, so it's very hard to determine what price you're getting compared to other customers. And, I don't know about you, but I don't like to feel like I'm getting ripped off. At least with Ortho Mattress, Sleep Train, Macys, etc., you can more easily compare apples to apples even though the mattress might be named differently from each of these stores. If you ask the sales people, they can tell you that the name of one mattress at Macys is the same as another mattress at Ortho and they will price match since they are pretty much the same mattress other than the name. When I arrived, I was shown a pretty low quality mattress and was told the price was $4000. I told him that the top of the line Beauty Rest was going for much less at Macy's due to the Columbus Day sale. He then dropped his prices by more than half. I personally don't like a place without set prices and you'll have to get a quote depending on whatever the sales person thinks they can get from you. Although the sales person was nice, he was still the "slick" salesperson which is totally what I would want to avoid when buying something so expensive. My husband and I went to Mattress City after seeing many great reviews from fellow Yelpers. I called and spoke to Eric Snyder. He was very helpful on the phone with my concerns and my husband and I decided to go in and see the mattresses. Eric was the nicest person and in no way did we ever feel like he was being pushy or felt like we had to make a decision right then and there, etc. We knew it was a done deal when we felt the mattress we wanted. My wife and I had been shopping for a new mattress for a good while. We trial-ed a bed from an online place (Saatva) that ended up being only OK, so went back to the drawing board.... We saw some solid reviews on Yelp so headed to Mattress City. Upon entering, were quickly approached by Paul (manager for this store), and immediately disarmed by his affability and demeanor. Turns out Paul has incredibly deep knowledge on a wide variety of mattress types - we had a ton of questions, and he spent a lot of time with us helping match our preferences (we're a "firm" couple) to the right bed. Eventually, after settling on a bed, we came back in to figure out pricing, and Paul was also really great about working within our budget, and making sure we came out satisfied on the overall cost (both the bed and delivery). So, a couple weeks ago we parked at another location where the employee said, "I'm going to walk you over to our other store. It's way bigger." He then walked us one block to this location, which was bigger, but left me wondering why they bother to have two stores within one block of each other? This is the second mattress shop we visited and I immediately notice how dirty these floor displays are. I suspended A LOT of discomfort when trying out some of them. We were interested in hearing what the salesman had to say about what kind of mattress we need. We kindly listened. He echoed what the (much nicer, calmer) guy at another store told us. Most of the mattresses here have NO price listed. That was a red flag. It felt like the salesman was just pulling numbers out of some assumption about us. Also, many of them don't have a model name or number displayed anywhere. But the worst part was the salesman's aggression. He was super pushy even though it was obvious we weren't interested. He incessantly emphasized that it's a "family business" and "you guys are how we survive." It was strange and what I had dreaded about looking at mattresses. Not a customer-friendly place. I have no idea why this place has so many glowing reviews. Oh wait, probably because the salesman said, "Are you Yelpers? Yes, alright, I'm going to give you $500 off." 8-10 years ago I bought a latex foam core mattress from this same store and it has been a fantastic mattress. Finally time for an upgrade, so my wife and I went in with the hopes of being able to try out various latex foam core mattresses. Now I have found no other stores that actually have latex foam mattresses that you can try out (I'm not saying that there aren't any, I just didn't find any that did). When we walked in we were greeted by Eric who proceeded to show us multiple examples of Latex core mattresses while pointing out the differences and features of each and describing what we might feel as we lay upon them. Throughout the process he was attentive,had real answers for our questions, and gave us no reason to not buy a mattress that not only suited our needs but our budget as well. So, I will start here next time I need a mattress and pass on the other stores. Eric treated us so well, was fully informed about his product, responded to our desires and gave us the exact price that fit our budget... including delivery, old mattress disposal and a delivery date on the date of my choosing. Steve is too cool. After looking up at some places, I decided to go with Mattress City to buy a boxspring for my new bed. Why? Simply because one of my yelp buddies wrote that Mattress City delivered his goods the SAME day that he purchased it. I called them up and Steve helped me the whole way through. He even had me send him pictures with my phone to his to make sure we were on the same page regarding measurements. Sure enough, he did offer me same day delivery, but because of the rain that day, it was no sure luck. BUT he offered me free delivery the next day. :) Now, let's talk about delivery. Typically, they want a 3 hour window so they can give you your goods. Due to work, I only gave them a 2 hour window. They came right when they would and they brought in my box spring to my studio, moved my bed around, and topped my mattress on top of the box spring within ten minutes. What a quickie! And to top it off, the delivery guy was pretty damn hot. It was a special delivery. At the end of the day, Steve called me to make sure everything went according to plan and that I liked my new goods. I came here about 2 years ago to see Pablo (Paul) and he took an hour asking me about my sleep habits and preferences and then showing me around to all the mattresses that might best suit me. I've been used to sleeping on cheap mattresses that cost probably no more than $300 but now that I've made this investment I can't imagine ever going back to that. I can always tell the difference when I sleep on a mattress that isn't as good quality as the one I've got from here because they're usually not as supportive. Pablo (Paul) will take good care of you and help figure out a way to make this investment fit your budget and hook you up with as many extras as he can. As a Chiropractor, I should be sleeping on a perfect mattress to keep MY back in good shape. I was over due for an upgrade when we decided to try this highly rated store. It really was worth all the hype. I told David that I wanted an education on each type of bed to which, I could tell he was almost giddy... He took his time to explain each of the three basic types of beds and then furthermore the differences in construction and manufacturers they carry. Details to the material, spring styles, latex, foam, organic cotton, bamboo, and what have you. He talked about each warranty and specifics of their coverages. He told us about where each bed was made and how they wear with time. I swear by the end I knew the bed we liked was the one for us. We picked a higher pillowtop version of a super firm Englander. Latex mattress was the exact thing we wanted after the education session and after testing all the beds. Now here is the thing, I wanted to buy it so he said ok should we deliver today. My wife was so surprised that it was going to be TODAY!!! She could not believe it. I told Dave we had to go to the store to buy sheets so we could use it tonite so to let the delivery guys know. They beat us to the house and were waiting when we got home. 20 minutes later, installed, other bed moved to the guest bedroom and they were gone with zero cleanup required from us. We got mattress cover, box, frame and mattress all at the same time of delivery. Part of the purchase Dave included some pillows that were out of stock so he asked for us to stop in. Now this was the only minor bit of frustration because he told me they would be in but I guess they kept being too busy to move them from the other store. I didn't know they were at the other store so, I think I called back 3 times and then finally showed up thinking they would be at his location since another employee told me they were there. Since they were not there, Dave apologized and he told he he would run them by my house after work, to which he did. Therefore, I would say that was an example of making something that was wrong go right. I would recommend this location to all shopping for a bed, in fact when my patients ask for a new bed recommendation, I tell them to go see David! read more

Sorry to be the party pooper here not giving 5 stars. I'm really on the border from 3.5-4. This is why: PROS: We purchased our bed from Dave, he's really nice, and knowledgable. I appreciate with the purchase of our bed we got a frame, mattress protector, and 2 pillows. I can trade in my bed to upgrade within 10 years. I would totally recommend this place for a friend price shopping. CONS: when u buy a temper pedic there is no price break or negotiation. We waited for about 45 min to talk to Dave and was told "we were going to get a deal". I had to take the whole day off of work for the delivery of my bed (10 days later). When I called the delivery guy back to explain to him I'm loosing clients and work, he said "well you live far, our clients are in pasadena". I live 20 min away and I paid over $3,000 on a new bed. I didn't complain how far we drove to go look at the mattress. Then trying to work around the delivery time i was given i was called on the delivery day and they tried to change the time on me!!! Presently I think my main gripe was no negotiation or ability to request delivery time, so I had to reschedule all of my clients. I see now when u check in u get $300 off, would have loved to know about that, I would have done so at the time. read more

although my experience here was a bumpy one, i have to admit, i got a 5 star service and they are well worth the 5 star ratings they get! Part 1: the shop: my boyfriend and i were moving to san jose, ca and we wanted to get a new mattress...after shopping around we knew that quality mattresses were quite expensive...we read reviews from this place and decided to pay them a visit... we went inside and was quickly greeted by Theo...he was very friendly giving us advice on what beds were good....we quickly settled on one and without much haggling, Theo gave us a great price (especially because they had the check in offer)...we were very happy and arranged to pick up our mattress from the warehouse over the weekend since we were on a tight time frame... Part 2: the pickup (here's where the problem comes in): we asked a friend a favor to borrow their pickup truck to pick up the mattress from the warehouse so that we could get the mattress on time when the movers came to pick up the goods to norcal....however...when my boyfriend arrived...they said that there was a mistake...our bed was not available because the available bed that was shown on the system was a floor sample!!! we were sooooo frustrated, so i spoke on the phone with Theo and he spoke to the President of the company (I think his name was James...) and then kept contacting me back and forth.....we quickly came to the conclusion that the mattress would not make it to us before the movers left and we were frustrated because we had really wanted the mattress.....i got so upset and frustrated that i was yelling on the phone and crying....but Theo apologized sincerely and kept calm and told us that we had several options.....one being taking a different mattress that we had not wanted.....and one of them being a full refund....i really didnt want a refund...so he explained my frustration to the President of the company... The president of the company quickly phoned me back and told me that they were going to deliver my mattress to San Jose for free for it was an error on their company's part!!!....i understood clearly that they wouldn't make money for doing this for me and perhaps lose money....but that was what makes this place SO awesome...i mean any company can easily give you a full refund...but they went out of their way to admit their faults and make their customer happy! Part 3: the delivery: The delivery went smooth and they helped us assemble with a great big smile on their face~ (not much to say about that) I have to admit.....since my experience wasn't a normal one, I feel like I'm in a good position to give them a five star review, they really deserve it! It is VERY hard to please a hormonal pregnant lady in 100 degree weather but I had a very good experience at Mattress City. I randomly walked into this mattress store while looking for a mattress one day.. the general manager David helped me pick out exactly what I wanted and quoted me a great price for the "Rolls Royce" of mattresses: a handmade, organic cotton, firm but amazingly comfortable California King Aireloom. I wanted to wait for my husband to test it out first before I bought it and so it was a few weeks before he had the time... we finally got to go this morning and unfortunately David wasn't there. The guy there quoted me $7000 for the same mattress which is NOT the deal I got from David but fortunately, the owner was there as well and honored the price I got which included the boxspring, frame, waterproof bamboo cover, pillows, shipping and tax. Wow!! It feels like you're getting a good deal just getting all this extra "stuff" haha. Normally, they deliver same day but I have to wait a week for them to make my bed before it's delivered--- I can't wait!!! Talk about restful sleep. Went in last week after reading the reviews here about how great this place is. It is remarkable to see a store with so many five star reviews, especially in a field as tumultuous as mattress stores, so I had to go in to see it for myself. The greatest strength of Mattress City is the fact that it is a family business. There are aspects of retail that still matter to a family business that don't matter to the big chain stores. Each customer is important to them because each customer is directly tied to their livelihood. If there is one customer that's unhappy it can have dire repercussions. That alone should give you confidence in shopping here. David, the general manager, is very welcoming and has a lot of information. He even apologized for not being in a suit since he couldn't fit his suit over the ankle brace he was wearing due to a recent injury. We had just arrived into Pasadena and needed a bed for that night. David informed us over the phone (picked up on the first ring and was very nice) that they could do same day delivery on certain days of the week, including the day we needed it. When we arrived in the store he called the warehouse to see what would be available to be delivered to us that day. We then went through the educational process of mattress selecting. David really took his time with us and had us try out each firmness of mattress as well as experience all of the different foam and pillowtop components. My wife and I are a little complicated since I am a stomach sleeper and she is a back sleeper. David worked with us until we found exactly what we wanted. Of course it happened to be one of the more expensive mattresses in the store, but it wasn't at his prodding. I believe it was even my wife that wandered over into that section and it was actually one of the last mattresses that he showed us. There was no haggling as David realized our concern with the price tag. He brought the price down to a more reasonable place for us and then threw in all the goodies that others have mentioned - bamboo mattress protector, memory foam pillows (that really are the ones sold for over $100 a piece), etc. He also explained the reason for the price difference - titanium springs, certain materials used in the making of the bed and a very very long warranty. We didn't shop around, we didn't look at other mattress stores and we still walked out of the store feeling like we had received a good deal and bought the best mattress. We did do some research on the mattress when we got home, just to be sure about pricing, etc. and we were even more impressed with Mattress City. The mattress we purchased, a Sterns and Foster, isn't even offered in any of the chain or department stores. It is a boutique mattress only. David had explained to us that he goes to the conventions and selects each of the mattresses that they sell personally. He truly takes pride in what he does and it shows. We have slept fantastic and are comforted to know that if anything happens down the road David will still be there for us. Bottom line: If you're in the market for a mattress Mattress City should be your destination. If you want to go to another store first, go for it. Get a quote and then have David blow it away. Within two minutes am older man came in, and when I inquired about the price of a mattress, he said "this is more". I repeated the question, and got the same answer. Then he said "we are closed now. Went looking for a mattress to replace my twenty-year-old plus double. It was far, far past the time I should have replaced it. My partner and I have different sleeping needs (a bad back and a bad shoulder) and also different preferences (very firm versus softer). Walked into Mattress City on a rainy Saturday afternoon and Christine greeted us immediately, offering to have us test out different mattresses so she could determine our sleeping needs. After about 6+ testers, we settled on a medium firmness, and went with a Durapedic Romantic Nights mattress and box spring. Although we originally wanted a king-size mattress, Christine looked up the dimensions for us and we realized a queen was all that would fit in our one-bedroom apartment. Fantastic customer service. FREE old mattress removal and delivery. Our mattress was delivered the following Wednesday, and they were right on time - 1pm during a 1pm-4pm time window. Within ten minutes, Kelvin and Walter had my new gorgeous bed upstairs and the awful one hauled away. It was completely painless. A week later, my back is happier and so is my partner! I've been in the market for a mattress for a month now. After a stop at leeds and sit & sleep, I had a good idea of what mattress I wanted. Then I want to make sure I got the right mattress for the best price. I checked yelped to see if there were other mattress stores in my area and mattress city had many reviews. I gave them a shot, and yes thank you yelpers. I was very impressed with the service I got. Theo and Dave were very helpful and they had a lot more knowledge about mattress then I expected. Theo helped me find the right mattress for my height and weight. Ive been sleeping on a firm mattress for a long time because i thought it was good for my back, but it wasn't cutting it. I wake up with numbness on my shoulders. He explained that's because I am a side sleeper. He suggested a pillowtop with strong foundation. I was so happy to figure out the reason and found a solution to my low energy level during the day. I told them my budget, which was under a thousand and the bed was much more than that. Since this was a family owned business, they were able to offer me a great deal at a fraction of the cost the high chain ends were offering me. For a similar mattress, it was double the price at Sears and Macy's. They worked with me on the price and even offered me two pillows for my queen size bed. Since it was a high end bed, they also threw mattress protectors. It was very cool- stain and water proof. Deliver service what very accommodating. They were available for me after my work schedule. They have many deliveries days. I got mine delivered free. They took my old mattress away and two men brought my new mattress in and set it all up for me. They were very careful with my house, which I was surprised. Friendly service from beginning to finish. I told my family about it and my sister and mom bought one as well. Give them a shot first before you invest in a mattress. They have multiple locations all around pasadena. They are doing so well because of their service and price that's why they are growing. Let me make this clear. I sign up for yelp just so I can leave David and his crew a review. This is how good those guys are. I was planning to spend at least two days to find the right mattress, after all we almost spent 1/3 of our life on our bed. So I need something good. Remember I was just passing through his store to the back parking lot a year ago, David jumped up to greet me even I told him I was just trying to go to the parking lot. He was very nice said it's fine and if I ever need a mattress, he is there to help. Today, a year later I got 4 high ends bed from David when I move in to my new house. It's simple. 1. Honest family business. 2. Very knowledgeable, they do the research so you don't need to, I bet David has tried sleeping in most of the bed in his store. 3. Only good quality products get in the door. They refuse to put some big name brand in their store because the build quality is not good. 4. No bullshxt like most other mattress place. Here they listen carefully to what your needs are as well as your sleeping habits, provide you with a solution. 5. Well, I had a major problem with the expensive Aireloom bed I bought a couple years ago. Basically, it lost all its support when putting weight on it, leaving me in pain every morning. BTW, did I mention this was a very expensive bed! I contacted Mattress City, who told me to go through my warranty with Aireloom. Aireloom was not willing to do anything, flat out. They were not willing to stand by their product and their warranty is designed in a way to deny your claim (now I know how that works). To the rescue was one of the owners of Mattress City, Sean. I was steadfast in my belief that they should back up the product (since it should last more than 2 years) and Sean worked with me to find a reasonable solution so I didn't loose my complete investment in the bed I already purchased. I feel I was treated fair, considering the situation, and I would highly recommend anyone shop at this store. It is very refreshing (as sad as that is) to have a business care about their customers and treat them right in the long term. They could have been shady and not cared, but they did! The purchase experience was pleasant and the sales people were very nice and helpful. The reason why I cannot give a 5-star review is because we had the same experience as Wayne C. We tried the various mattresses and found one that we liked. We were told that the mattress was a Spring Air Four Seasons mattress. After the mattress was delivered, we found out that we bought an Englander mattress. It was partly our fault because the purchase order that was given to us did not say Spring Air Four Seasons and we should have examined the purchase order closely and ask questions (all I paid attention to at the store was that the price was correct....) It was a big surprise when the mattress was delivered and we saw that the mattress was an Englander. We thought it was a mistake but then we realized that the delivered mattress was the same type of mattress that we tried and liked in the store so we decided to keep it. I may be wrong but I recall that before all the discontinuation of lines or combination of mattress manufacturers, the Four Seasons line was right below the Chattam & Wells line in the 4 Spring Air lineup and my impression was that the Four Seasons line was pricier than the Englander mattresses. The great deal that we thought we got didn't turn out to be such a great deal since I have found lower online prices for the same Englander mattress. But I got to try the mattress in store and the delivery was quick so I am not going to cry about it. I wouldn't give it too much weight on the full price they quoted. But the prices that could give us after the huge discounts that they voluntarily gave us seemed reasonable. So far the mattress is comfortable and I sleep quite well in it although it is surprisingly light. The funny part is that if I were told when I was at the store that the mattress I liked was an Englander, I would have still bought it and would give the experience a 5-star review. But the Four Seasons/Englander confusion put a bad taste in my mouth.... read more

For us, he gave us a nice bundle deal since we needed two mattresses, two frames and two split box springs. Michael also continues to follow up with his customers over the next few weeks after delivery to ensure the mattress is perfect. They have a nice return policy to give you plenty of time to decide whether or not the one you purchased is the right one. We had some minor delivery issue mixups with the mattress frame, but Michael was quick and happy to get that resolved as soon as possible.
