I have two herniated discs in my neck, so finding the right pillow is extremely important. After trying multiple pillows from Amazon that only caused more pain, I went to Relax the Back after a neighbor highly recommended them and told me about their loaner pillow program. Being able to try a pillow for 10 days before purchasing is such a smart idea. On my first visit, they asked detailed questions about what I was looking for and what type of bed I sleep on--and they actually had my bed in the showroom, which made a huge difference. I was able to see how my body settled into the mattress with each pillow. I tried 4-5 pillows and went home with a loaner that same day. I've been back a few times to switch pillows, even taking a short break and returning again as my symptoms changed. He's not pushy at all, and easy to work with. I ended up getting the Lifeform office chair, in the 'simulated leather'. It's incredibly soft, stays cool while sitting, and most importantly is adjustable in every way. I also got the foot rest which helps with leg circulation. This review is a little odd because I ended up returning the chair I purchased. So why the 5 stars? Hear me out: I went into Relax the Back and Aaron was incredibly helpful. He showed me the massage chair that would best suit my needs. Aaron was really attentive and explained everything in detail. I ended up purchasing the Rover and was really excited to have it delivered. Unfortunately I had to return the chair for a completely unrelated reason. Aaron was really understanding and was not pushy about it at all. That is excellent customer service if you ask me! We recently purchased two Cafe + Recliners from Pasadena Relax the Back. I worked with Aaron Resnik a long-time employee of the Pasadena location. My husband has major back issues along with recently having a shoulder replacement. The old chairs we had were low and the footrest protruded making it very hard to get in and out of. I called and spoke to Aaron and told him our concerns and we needed new chairs. He took the time to explain the difference models they had and what he thought would work the best for my husband. We both agreed on the Cafe+ chair. THIS WAS ALL DONE OVER THE PHONE!!! We received the chairs about two weeks ago and they are absolutely perfect. The footrest fits snuggly into the chair and the chair is higher, so all my husband has to do is sit. (he's 5'11"and 74 years old) Everyday my husband says I LOVE MY CHAIR. I've developed arthritis in my upper back and neck, causing a lot of constant pain and discomfort. I am going through multiple therapies prior to inevitable surgery. My physical therapist suggested I go to this business and look for a good pillow to keep my spine and neck properly aligned while I sleep. I've tried many pillows in the past couple of years because I don't sleep well. This store has an amazing selection of high quality pillows, among many other comfort and therapeutic products. I was met by Pam and explained my issues. She carefully listened and then brought out several different pillows for me try. They were all so comfortable and I ended up buying two different ones, one for bed and one for napping on the couch. Last night was the first night with my new pillow and the difference was immediately noticeable. I woke up rested and relaxed. Pam knows more about pillows and therapeutic sleeping products than anyone I've ever met. On top of that, she is very sweet and kind. There is no pressure to purchase anything. In the Spring of 2018, I went into the Pasadena Relax the Back store to look at comfortable ready chairs. Frankie Hackaday helped and I purchased a zero gravity chair which I love. Next concern to address was the ergonomics of my home office desk and chair. So, I visited the store again and Bill said someone could come over to my home and do an ergonomic assessment. That somebody turned out to be Frankie Hackaday who came out and spent an hour and a half with me. Based on her assessment, we adjusted the height of my desk lower, removed the arms of my office chair, adjusted the positions of my 2 monitors and voila....it's all good. The salesperson (Pam) was very knowledgeable, not only about the products and options, but also about basic anatomy and ergonomic approaches to skeletal alignment. She was warm, welcoming, patient and kind while allowing us to try several different items. A truly valuable customer service. We purchased a lumbar support and wedge seat cushion that have greatly minimized the back pain that associated with sitting in a chair during long computer sessions. Aaron is a godsend! I bought a lifeform chair from another location some time ago, but that location never helped me set it up. I thought it was the wrong chair or something was wrong as it didn't feel like the old one I had many years ago - which was set up for me. I was in so much pain. I brought it into the store this weekend asking for it to be sent back to the factory to be remade and remeasured to fit me. The first one I owned was measured for me and set up for me after a spine surgery. This one was not - done over the phone and the sales rep couldn't be bothered. But yesterday Aaron immediately got to work on my chair. He started flipping things around and pulling the seat up, and had me sit in it. It was night and day. He said no one could have been comfortable as it was pushed all the way forward, and arms were broken! I honestly may have broken the arm in my wild effort to try to make the darn thing comfortable as I was in dreadful pain. I was about to go back to my spine surgeon! I also purchased another cushion for other chairs from Aaron and he's looking for a side desk for me. He was so knowledgeable and even knew the original guy who helped me on the other end of the state so many years before on the first order. Aaron will alway be my guy now! Three stars is very accurate. This place is A ok. Not the best, not the worst. I came in to browse because my parents are obsessed with this store. An older gentleman was not paying attention but eventually asked if I had any questions. I browses then bought this pillow called "the angle" for my lower back. He rang me up. A younger guy named John came in as I continued to look at the front of the store. I asked him if they ever had a sale and he said that everything was 15% that day! I asked if I had received the discount. He refunded my old purchase and gave me the discount. A great store to look for products to fix your aches and pains, just not the most gung-ho customer service. P.S. The angle is really working for me. No more lower back pain when I sleep! I bought an office chair at Relax the Back in Pasadena four years ago and recently, it began wobbling from side to side. I called and Aaron and he found my order from 2017. The chair is still under warranty! I took the chair to the store and Aaron was able to fix it while I waited at no charge. He was so helpful and now my chair is better than new since he also fine-tuned the adjustments while I was in the store. Since I have lower back and neck problems, a good chair is important to me. This year, my home office chair search became a time-consuming, research-filled obsession. I do a lot of sitting for my job, and working via Zoom increased the number of hours I spent at my desk. My lower back (sacroiliac joint) was killing me and costing me money in medical visits, so I decided that the long-term health of my back was worth whatever the right chair cost. Most office chairs are built for the "average-sized" human - and if you're short or tall, or like the character in The Princess and the Pea who can feel every little thing, it can be hard to find the right fit. (I'm 5'4" and a "micro-adjuster.") For those of you who find yourselves in a similar situation, here's how my search went. I had visited Relax the Back in the past, but I thought the most comfortable chairs were extremely expensive. Surely I could find something else for less (but still much better than the crappy IKEA and Staples chairs I'd used in the past.) I read a ton of articles with titles like "The Best Office Chairs of 2021" but quickly realized that chairs are so specific to your body that you just have to go try them out in person. I spent hours at various showrooms and tried every single chair on the floor, at length. I even borrowed an Aeron from a friend for a couple of months, which was OK-ish, but did nothing for my back pain. So in desperation, I returned to Relax the Back in Pasadena, and proceeded to revisit the whole inventory. Pam and Aaron were very patient with me (and my small dog), getting down on their hands and knees to adjust the chairs to my size. The chair that felt the best - the Lifeform mid-back executive chair - still seemed SO EXPENSIVE and so BULKY. I honestly didn't love the way it looked, but I had to admit that when it was adjusted properly, it hugged me; like I was in a cushy cockpit. I bought a footstool and a seat cushion, and continued to deliberate -- for weeks. I was very nervous about buying a special order chair that could not be returned, so Pam ultimately allowed me to buy the floor model, with the caveat that if it didn't work for me, I could return it within 30 days as long as it was undamaged. As a commitment phobe, this was what I needed to hear. Aaron and Pam didn't pressure me or promise that it would cure my back pain, but they did say they thought this was the best chair I could buy, and that it would likely last forever. After a couple of weeks in the chair, my back already felt better than it had in quite a while. I finally decided that I just had to think of it as an essential medical device and custom-order my own. I don't ever spend this much money on single items of furniture, and doing so made me totally neurotic, but after 8 weeks, much deliberation and multiple visits to the showroom later, I now own a made-to-order, highly adjustable, bulky, white Brisa office chair that a friend described as "70's sci-fi hospital chic" - and my lower back pain is actually GONE! read more

I have been meaning to write a review about the incredible Pasadena Relax the Back store for some time now. I reluctantly decided to try the store as I continued my search for "the chair." Through the years, I was used to hearing salespeople say, "This is the only chair you will ever buy." What they didn't add was "until this chair dies." My experience at the Pasadena store was indeed different. When my friend and I walked into the store, we were greeted by Aaron, one of the Store Managers. Aaron spent a great deal of time with us, getting to know what I needed in a chair. He would switch options as he heard more about my needs and wants. When I finally felt comfortable (Aaron was not pushy), I ordered a chair, I was actually excited about getting it for once, rather than just thinking I had bought yet another nameless chair that would live for about 2 or 3 years. After having this chair for about 2 months now, I am still enjoying it. I only had one issue, which Aaron warned me about. There are two sets of wheels: one set that lets the chair roll more easily, and one set that doesn't. He said he would include both in the order. The chairs arrived with all the parts and two types of wheels. The ones that moved easily indeed did so, shooting me all over the place because I have LVP flooring. I figured to save my life and my furniture, I would switch out the wheels. For the life of me, I could not find the second set that I knew came with the chairs. My friend who had been with me was heading to Pasadena one day, and I asked him to stop by to purchase a new set, since I was spending way too much time obsessing about finding the ones that came with the chair. Later in the day, my friend brought me the new "laid back" wheels; and when I asked him how much I owed him, he said that Ron, another Store Manager, helped him and understood the issue. He told my friend there was no cost. I don't think I have heard someone say that since I was a kid holding my dad's hand at a hardware store. Anyway, I wanted you to know that if, like me, you are looking for "the chair," you may want to try the Relax the Back store in Pasadena, and that Aaron and Ron (and probably others there that I didn't meet) will help you in their helpful relaxed way. read more

Ok, I read all of the really negative reviews and was super put off with them so I decided to call the store myself to see what type of a reception I would get-backstory, husband suffering from extreme lower back pain and definitely needs to relax his back. Surprise, surprise! A terrific guy named Bill answered the phone, explained that he was the new person in charge and was going to put the pieces back together. All in all. a very reassuring conversation! The next day my husband and I actually visited the store and Bill and all was well. We ended up buying one item and when my husband is at work-sshhhh, it's a secret-I'll be back to buy a zero gravity chair. Those suckers are amazing!!!!!!! I'm not the type of person who likes to be followed around the store by pushy or overly helpful salespeople that guilt me into buying something. Well that depends on what I'm buying... I want to try on clothes on my own and I want to lounge around in different chairs on my own. If you want chatty, in your face sales, this is not the place for you. Otherwise, give this place a try. We had a great experience at this location! I needed a TheraCane for my back because the weight of my baby is starting to take a toll on me. I called the store and they had one left so the guy working there was nice enough to hide it behind the counter until I got there to purchase it. Yay! When we showed up it was not busy at all, so we decided to try out a few massage chairs including this crazy $7000 chair that completely blew my mind. It was like having 4 different people massage you at once. I totally wish I was rich so I could have one of those to use daily. It's good to have dreams. =) Frankie the sales lady was so sweet to us & very helpful. She let us try the different chairs happily and answered all the questions we had. She didn't care we couldn't afford $7000 for a chair and let us enjoy it anyways. She was incredibly nice & we will be back there for sure for a few X-mas gifts. This doesn't even deserve 1 star. Halfway decent customer service prior to purchase, and then they never look back. I purchased a pillow for my dad who has a bad back, and he unknowingly tried it after removing the plastic sleeve (who tries a pillow with the sleeve on?! you want to make sure the material is comfortable!) They apparently have a no-return policy after the sleeve has been removed, and they offered absolutely no help when we went back ONE day after purchasing the pillow. The last time I was there, I was purchasing a back pillow for the car, and the lady completed my transaction while on a personal call on her cell phone. I am super disappointed with the salesman, John, at this store. I recently had an accident which resulted in broken ribs, so I searched online and found the contour wedge pillow that looks like it will help me sleep. I especially liked the little head pillow that straps onto the wedge. There was no one in the store except the salesman, John. When I got home and opened the package--which clearly shows an attachable pillow in the photo--there was no pillow. I called the store (which went to voicemail twice before he answered) and John says casually, "Oh yeah, the pillow's an extra $45." I explained that it's in the photo on the package and nowhere does it say it's not included. No response. I explained that I was frustrated and wish he would have mentioned that it wasn't included when I was in the store. He just said, "Well, it's not included." Wish I had ordered online. At least then if the pillow weren't included, I wouldn't have had the experience of being face to face with the person who decided to keep that information to himself. read more

There was only one old man at the counter and he didn't bother making eye contact or even a smirk or anything. I don't believe he is a salesman or he just brushed me off as someone who isn't going to buy from him. I walked around the entire place and sat around on a few items. I was there for a good 15 minutes and just left. I wanted to check out some Herman Millers or the Swopper chair in person before I decide but this place wasn't helpful at all. I went to Relax the Back at their new location, to buy another satin pillow case for a memory foam pillow. It turns out it was a discontinued model, but Ronald Erb called all 15 stores in the US to try to help me locate it. He also called me back to update me that he was not able to find it for me. I greatly appreciate his professionalism and follow up. I would have given them 5 stars, except for the prior experience I had with another young lady who tried to help me find the same case. First of all, she did not know where pillow cases were stored, then asked me 4 times what measurement I was looking for. It took a long time and I was annoyed that she kept asking me the same measurement. She took my name and said the owner would call me back, but it never happened. read more
