Having a craving for hot dogs, I ventured over to Casey's knowing I would not be disappointed. I actually had visions of sitting inside to soak up the atmosphere and try one of their burgers for the first time, but it was not to be. Not only was it busy inside, there was a line at the side window. I would have to settle for a couple to go. Nothing fancy here, but some great steamed dogs and buns. My husband and I walk over to Casey's at least once a month for lunch. The menu is small but the flavors are big. Very classic diner burgers and hot dogs - I recommend ordering a hotdog to eat while you wait for your burger. We've only sat inside once - it's cozy. There are also 2 outdoor picnic tables available to sit at, or you can walk your burgers over to the town Common and eat them on a park bench. A Natick institution is what Casey's Diner is. It's been around forever and is a neighborhood place through and through. Their hot dogs are what I come for and I always leave satisfied. It's surprising how hard it is to find good hot dogs or hot dogs at all in the Boston 'burbs when the mood strikes, but Casey's doesn't ever disappoint. It's where the term "hole in the wall" originated as there is very limited seating inside, but if you're content with take away as I am you shouldn't have any issues. Unfriendly and unwelcoming. No hello, or greeting when I, the only customer in the place, came in and sat down. I was not offered coffee or a menu. After listening for a minute to the two behind the counter complain about quitting, and realizing I wasn't going to be acknowledged, I spoke up and asked for a cheese omelet, home fries and toast. I was acknowledged and when I was about to receive my order, it was obvious I was not going to be offered anything to drink so again, I spoke up and asked for a coffee and a water. The coffee was lukewarm and I never got the water. The home fries were disgusting and lukewarm. I should have been tipped off that there were no cars in the lot and no customers inside. 10 AM on a beautiful Saturday morning and the place was empty. Plenty of other places in Natick with better service and better food than this dump. PASS! read more

The man working the counter is very gruff. They do not have a restroom. They will not give you a glass of water. Most diners have all day breakfast, this one does not. Limited lunch menu. When I asked the location of the nearest public restroom, I was told to check with the Police. By this time I had had enough so I left without eating. read more

A cute little shack in Natick. When I say little, I mean VERY little. It can seat about 10 people. The grill is right in front of you where the burger are made. These classic burgers have an amazing patty (you can ask for a double patty) and are sold at a pretty good price. The frankfurts are boiled and stuck between steamed hot dog buns. For both you can put whatever you want on it. Didn't get dessert. Definitely a good place to stop by and eat. (I'm guessing that Casey's would probably be very packed during breakfast/lunch hours, so I would go during off times.) read more

I just finished eating at Casey's Diner for the first time. It is such a cute environment and the staff are so welcoming. Massachusetts doesn't have any good diners and I'm glad I found one. A young red head woman helped me out. I asked her for a recommendation and she made me a "patty melt" which is a burger inside of a grilled cheese! Some good comfort food! She was very personable and made me feel like a regular costumer!! I am going to be a regular costumer now. The banana cream pie was so fresh and tasted homemade! I've been going to Casey's for years and love the place. The hotdogs are great - the allaround is the standard - with mustard, relish and chopped onions. I usually start with one or two of those - which are usually provided within moments of ordering. After that I have a cheeseburger. I go with onion in (which means they're grilled into the patty), mustard and pickle. Dee-licious. I have been chowing down on their amazing crack-cocaine-esk food since i was two feet tall in a tutu, and my loving addiction hasnt ceased 20 years and 5 states later. Yea its a "diner" as in your typical side of the road out of a restored box car kinda deal, but lets be honest nobody comes here for anything else but their awesome hot dogs and burgers. Who thought a hot dog could be so amazing? Boiled to perfection and slopped together in less than a minute for you, these babies are so good its proven literal torture to try and eat just one. I'm a cheese with everything girl, but most days I like to keep it simple as an all-around. I cannot ignore the fact that they do serve a killer burger, though. I had one for the first time a few weeks ago due to the stellar recommendation from a friend, and was pleasantly surprised by the juicy goodness explosion that occurred in my mouth a moment later. It don't know if I would drive two towns over to get one the way I would their dogs, but it was still very good and worth noting. Best part for me is how nice the guys are. The same 3 guys are always in there, and have been since I was a little girl. Thanks for not selling out Casey's, as you will forever have a place as a clogged artery in my heart! read more

Oh, this place is a one-of-a-kind classic. Tiny diner, counter seating only, or walk up to the window and take your food to go. Very limited menu. Cash only. The tiny, vaulted yellow building used to be a horse drawn cart! You can kind of see it in the lines, once you know what you're looking at. We stopped in while staying with friends in Natick, and for old time neighborhood joint atmosphere, plain diner food, especially simple, fresh, well-priced greasy-spoon griddle burgers, they are awesome. This is not health food, we're talking about. And straight out of Saturday Night Live, it's no fries, chips, no Coke, Pepsi. But within their aspirations, they do good food. The line for the service window outside was impressive for such a late hour for lunch, and we just lucked out as a father and son were leaving and were able to nab three seats at the counter just as we walked in. I loved the well-worn feel of the battered old polished oak bar, and the huge solid copper vat they use for steaming the buns. The three gentlemen behind the counter clearly have a practiced routine down, smooth and easy in a very crowded space. I really enjoy soaking in the camaraderie between the many old regulars and the staff, and listening in to the easy banter among them. Local news and real estate gossip flows around you while you chow down on your food, and that's just the way I like it in a local joint. Sorry, but if you like Casey's, then your taste is in your tonsils. This is an ordinary, commercial hot dog in a Sunbeam white bread bun - vulgar food, really. There is an absolute lack of excellence. I went with my son one Saturday and we got two seats at the counter for hamburgers, which I reasoned might be Ok. Sitting right in front of the prep area, we saw all the good, bad , and ugly here. The final word for me was when the chief cook for burgers greeted an incoming patron with a warm handshake, skin on skin, and then went back to making what was to be our hamburgers!! No gloves, no wipe on a towel, no intermediation of any kind - just straight from the palm of a stranger to my burger! I was so shocked, I put it under my hat, so to speak, but Yelp is a fine forum to let the world know what I bore witness to - would you want to eat food made under these same conditions? Truth is it's a lot less about germ phobia and a lot more about respect for one's customers. How can the cook treat his customers that way? What else might he be capable of doing? it does make one's mind consider the possibilities... I'll buy Pearl hot dogs from Roche Bros or BJ's and make them at home myself. Casey's is a hidden gem in the truest sense of that word. With no sign on the front, it's easy to blow right by if you're not careful, but it's apparently a landmark to the locals. Our party of 3-- read 30% of the seated capacity of the place-- showed up at the right time. 11am on a Tuesday. As our food (great burgers that totally hit the spot) was being concocted, the place began to fill up, the pick up window opened and closed about a hundred times. Every single construction worker, brick layer, plumber, and joe worker-guy in about a 10 mile radius showed up for lunch. The diner lingo was flying between the crack two-man team of diner-dudes. Burger, walk it through the garden. 2 dogs all around. Burger, Scottish. (whatever that means) It was quite the experience. And being there and served before it really got going was like quietly having lunch in the eye of a tiny hurricane. The one thing I will say is that I wasn't sure if it was adorable or offensive that my burger and that of my lady dining counterpart were cut in half while the exact same burger of my gentleman dining counterpart was not. I'm not sure if it's cute or weird that his can of soda was plopped in front of him and mine was served with a glass and a straw. It was done with an air of that's just how they do it. The one thing that gender did not effect was the size of the slab of pie we were each given. I think I was served fully 1/6th of the apple pie....and while I didn't finish mine, aforementioned gentleman dining counterpart wolfed his down. It's not made in house (nor could one expect it to be for the size of the place) but it's tasty. In short-- show up at the right time and you'll get a seat, if not take it on the road. But bring cash, as that's all they take. Also, be flexible in your ordering-- apparently the menu board only gets changed once every 20 years or so. My buddy took me there for the first time. DAMN!! This was some good eatin'. Now, we weren't able to get inside, and thank goodness for a 60 degree January day! So, we ordered from the side window and ate on the hood of his truck. I got a few dogs and the Onion Smashed Cheeseburger.. Now, the dogs were crunchy on the outside...pure yummyness on the inside. I got them with a little ketchup, brown mustard, and ketchup. I ate them before the burger even came out. Then, for course two, that perfectly cooked cheese burger with grilled onions smushed into the bottom of the burger was like a little taste of heaven on a bun! I was dreaming about these burgers and dogs all night. Now I can't keep them off my mind. I feel like I need to stalk them in the bushes outside...if they had them...tell them that I love them, and that they really need to have extended hours on the weekends so I can get out there...as it's a bit of a hike for me. I can't wait to get out there again....but I think that I'm happy that they aren't close. I worry that if they were, I'd become Fatty McButterpants in a few weeks. Many people know each other - if only by sight - and even if they don't there's no harm in jumping into the conversations at the counter. Pat, who runs the place, is the man at the dog station. So I finally got to try this place after hearing about it from all the locals. I placed an order (from the carry out window) for a steamed hot dog (all around) along with a cheeseburger with bacon and grilled onions. I have to be honest, the hot dog was nothing special to wow me in anyway considering the amount of attention it gets and it's definitely not worth $2.50 but hey it doesn't hurt to try it once. The cheeseburger ($4.00) on the other hand was simply one of the best old fashioned American burgers I have ever had. Cooked perfectly, extremely juicy (by that I mean greasy) and definitely something to come back for. Please be aware that this is a CASH ONLY business. The owners need to place a big sign for others who are first timers. I will definitely be coming back here for more but perhaps only the burgers. read more

I checked out Casey's Diner after getting a hot dog craving and scoping out Yelp for advice. I'm a little baffled at the people raving about the hot dogs here. They're good. Yes. But, there's nothing amazing about them. They're nicely steamed versions of hot dogs and buns you could get at the supermarket. They're cheap, and they're good, and if you've got a craving for a hot dog, definitely grab one there, but don't expect something unique and mind-blowing. I have a feeling even the (super-friendly) staff there would agree with this, so I feel no guilt saying that. Now... On the OTHER hand, these guys make an AMAZING burger. The burger reminded me of the ones at Mr. Bartley's in Harvard Square (minus the fancy toppings). Grilled to perfection, with a thin, crisp-burnt "crust", juicy but not sloppy/greasy, it practically melts in your mouth. I tried the Pepper Burger upon recommendation at Yelp. The slightly grilled peppers added a great crunch. These peppers are the only "fancy" topping you'll find here, and I'm OK with that. Oh, and don't ask for fries - they don't make them. Someone came in and asked for fries and the staff went into a mini version of the old SNL "Cheezborger, Cheezborger" skit (which is actually true - they have "no fries - chips, no Coke - Pepsi) The ambiance is great - a classic tiny greasy diner. If you are looking for a local dive with some real Natick charm, then Casey's is for you. To be fair, it's menu is limited and it's real diner fair, but for diner food, it's great! Their menu focuses on burgers and dogs, and you really should be sure to try them both. They also make a few grilled sandwiches like a grilled cheese or tuna melt and those are also quite good. I've never had their pie, but I always see a few pices wrapped up in the cabinet. I also hear their coffee is good, but I've always gone for the cans of soda they offer. The thing I love best about this place is the small caboose, the old-school pedestal seats, the local guys working there, and the other dinners. What a great local spot! Been coming to Casey's for about 20 years now, i've basically grown up on their burgers and dogs! The staff is awesome, friendly and funny. The service is speedy and the prices are reasonable. The real stars are the burgers and dogs (although they do have many other options including daily pies) Do yourself a favor and try my tried and true order: Appetizer: 2 Hot Dogs, 1 all around (onion, relish and mustard), 2nd with whatever toppings you prefer Main Course: 1 Burger onions in with whatever toppings your prefer. Truly an honor to be the first to review - hopefully word will spread. Casey's is a truly religious experience. Steamed hot dogs, burgers, grilled cheese sandwiches, blt's...pretty much anything you'd want at a fast food joint except for fries and onion rings (no deep fryers here)...but surprisingly you don't really miss them. Cheap ($2.00 for a dog, $2.65 for a cheeseburger if I remember correctly), and delicious. They steam the hot dog rolls as well, which makes them sweet and sticky, and really adds a lot to the experience. You bite into a dog and it snaps on cue, just the way a yummy steamed mystery meat log should. The burgers are tasty as well, and you can get them piled high and not break the bank. A little lingo as well: an all-around is defined as a hot dog with mustard, relish, and onions. I am of the firm conviction that it should be illegal to eat a hot dog without chopped onions on it, and these guys don't disappoint. A Natick institution, it's a funny little diner car that has been around since the 1920's, although I believe it has moved a few times in its history. I have not been here in a long time, but I remember that they had literally the best hot dogs I ever ate as a child. The last time I visited the spot (probably around 10 years ago) I was told I couldn't sit at the counter because the available seats were all reserved for "regulars". In a town that is best known (unfairly or not) for its mall, the type of shopping destination for which artifice and inauthenticity are staple requirements, Casey's is the real, genuine deal, with a rich and complex character all its own that cannot be copied and replicated. Who remember sitting at the counter with their kids and grandkids so long ago as if it were yesterday, realizing that while they and their kids have changed over the years, Casey's has not. It's a genuine rail-car diner with the sort of patina that only time offers, a copper hotdog boiler sitting in the corner older than anyone alive. If your timing is just right, you can get a seat at the tiny counter and pretend you're a character in an Edward Hopper painting or make believe that it's 1935 and you're treating yourself to a restaurant supper. Usually I don't have the patience to wait for a seat, so I just go right up to the takeout window. I'll admit that I'm proud to know the secret code - "two dogs all around" - and that just means they'll put the usual toppings on them - ketchup, mustard, relish, onions - but somehow the result of this combination seems more like a delicacy than an American cliche. The dogs themselves are mildly seasoned and have a snap to them, the buns are freshly steamed, and the guy at the counter is doing fast, seamless motions to make it all happen in real time. He never gets flustered no matter how long the line is. I've gotten hamburgers a few times, too, and they're just as good. But the food is just one part of Casey's. You know how some restaurants get characterized as "no frills"? I've used that term to describe restaurants before, but Casey's Diner seriously has set the new standard of "no frills" for me! This place is tiny...like the size of my apartment tiny. There's like 8 stools inside. Oh and the door to get in is a SLIDING DOOR. Do not make the same noob mistake I made by tugging at the thing and making a ruckus. So embarrassing... Anyway, burgers and hotdogs. Eat three of those in any combination and you will be full. Sometimes there's pie. No fries. Even though I really enjoyed my meal, I thought it was a little pricey for the portion. I would say Casey's Diner is more of a 3 1/2 but this is the closest I've gotten to In-and Out (because its so freshly prepared) since I've moved to Boston. read more

Although the burgers and the dogs are delicious, the lack of fries or any other creative side item is always a disappointment. Of course, you could always just order two burgers or two more dogs and then you'd never even miss that side of fries. I'd suggest getting there before or after the lunch time rush so that you can take your time and "explore" the inside of the caboose. There is a history of the diner, of sorts, sprinkled throughout the photos on the walls. Stepping out of my comfort zone from the fancy and upscale to the rugged and humble, I ventured over to Casey's Diner in Natick with some fellow burger enthusiasts to experience a burger as simple as you can get. Walking into Casey's is like a time-warp; with about eight seats at the counter, seating is limited, and the option of grabbing your meal from the take-out window is available too. Hot Dogs and Burgers are the focus here, and you can smell them a mile away. But I'm a burger guy (shocking I know) and only having a few minutes to eat, I was carefully instructed to order a burger with onions cooked into the patty, and don't forget about the bacon. What they do to the onions and bacon is what makes this burger; reminiscent of White Hut, it's all about the crust, the grease and the simplicity, the beef is not the star but it really doesn't matter. It's a small burger and it costs around $3, but they don't serve fries, so if you're looking to be stuffed you'll probably have to order a couple of burgers or one of their signature hot dogs, the choice is yours. The bacon is carefully chopped and pressed into the patty, so you end up with bits of bacon running throughout the burger and that makes me happy. The onions are essentially treated the same way; chopped up and encased into the patty. Both condiments give the burger a fantastic crunch to an already crispy burger, all because it's cooked on a griddle that probably hasn't been cleaned in about thirty years. But that's not a bad thing, it's a greasy delight that fancier burger joints can't claim. Of course, there us such a thing as too greasy, and the Casey's Burger is borderline too greasy. It's that tricky play on "juiciness versus greasiness," as a novice burger enthusiast might mistake an ungodly amount of grease as one juicy burger, this one falls somewhere in the middle. The bun is a very standard white grocery store bun that is ever so gently kissed by the griddle, giving it a small amount of crunch. Melted American Cheese is obvious but it melts perfectly, thus adding another layer of creaminess and fat. The beef is ordinary, but for $3 does it really matter? The unique crust via the bacon and onions are extraordinary, and enough to make a trip to Casey's Diner more than worthy. Delay the diet for another day, eat a couple of greasy burgers and be happy for what it is, you won't be sorry. read more
