Total disappointment. It was packed and people were waiting so i thought i was going to experance something great. We ordered and then 15 minutes went by and other people were getting there food. 5 minutes went buy and I asked the waitress to see about out order and she came bace and said that she forgot to put it in and if we still wanted it and no apologie. This is the perfect example of a greasy spoon diner. everything was so yummy. Bacon extra crispy, home fries well seasoned and soft yet crisp and scrambled eggs with broccoli added were so yummy! Portions weren't too big which I prefer. Service was great, the waitress was cute and nice. I popped in at 1:45pm and was finished and paid by 2. Cute and small on the inside, I sat at the counter but there were plenty of seats too. I wish I lived closer so I could come back!! read more

Much better than it use to be, Mel's is a good breakfast spot that will be packed in the mornings if you don't get there early enough. Only downside is the service is a little slow, which is ok if you're just trying to enjoy your breakfast and aren't in a hurry. read more

This place was GREAT! Good food for a good price. Bf and I went on a Monday and there was no wait but I've seen them SUPER PACKED on the weekends. It is a fairly small place and you seat yourself which gave me anxiety as I was unsure at what tables were open but once we were sat we were met with a nice waitress and given coffee immediately. The food is a little bit basic but that's to be given at a small place like this. I ordered the quesadilla and asked to add black beans as I had seen it in a different meal but she said no unfortunately but when I got my meal they had added it to my surprise!!! I was so happy and it added another demotion to the already REALLY good meal! I loved it! I also loved the attention to detail. We will definitely be back. Service was very slow. We waited almost 25 minutes to get our breakfast. I ordered a linguiça and cheese omelette the omelette two egg omelette with cheese with seven dollars with an additional dollar 85 for the linguiça plus an additional $.50 for the cost of eggs and there was zero linguiça inside of it, very skimpy on their food and very high priced so just the omelette 10 bucks and there was maybe a pinch of linguica in it very disappointed read more

Cute family friendly like atmosphere. Upon sitting down had to wait for menu's from Server. I feel these should be immediately available, whether by the bus boy leaving on the table after he's done cleaning or by always left on the table also considering we had a little bit of a wait for a table. I got a b.e.l.t sandwich that came with home fries. Sandwich was good, not bad h.f. My husband got the special steak & eggs. Steak was cooked perfectly but wasn't a steak but seasoned steak tips. Not a biggy-had that been mentioned by the server or listed this way. Didn't like/want seasoned tips? Prices were reasonable though this visit was cash only cause cc machine wasn't working. This place is terrific. We stopped on our way home from the Cape during the tail end of a Nor'easter that shortened our vacation. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive, the food came quick, hot and as ordered, prices were diner food friendly. The other diners were all enjoying their food and the company. While clearly a place that welcomes lots of regulars we weren't treated like strangers. Realizing she didn't know us, the waitress asked if we were new to the area. A great find. Very reasonable prices and great service. I didn't care for the coffee but I'm fussy about my coffee. The omelette was good but I like them fluffier..that's just my personal preference. Any place that has crepes gets extra points and theirs get an A+. read more

If I could leave no star I would. We went out for breakfast and left extremely unhappy. The waitress dawn was very unprofessional and rude after we complained our food was brought out cold, wrong and just not appealing. My 2 year old would not even touch the eggs and he eats everything I put in front of him. She told me I could speak with the owner so we waited 10 minutes for her to say he is the only one cooking. Which was a lie. Safe to say we will never return to mels diner and I suggest anyone to go elsewhere if you are in that area. read more

Been here several times and the food is always really good, the prices are great but... they seem to have trouble finding good waitstaff.. the waitress we had was inattentive to say the least, we literally were one of five couples and us, (3) there where 2 waitresses and a manager for front of house, which is about 10ish Tables and about 8ish counter seats and yet she disappeared, ignored us mostly and seemed so unhappy to be there! She had no smile, no hello, no nothing! She was barely apologetic about dirty silverware, which was promptly replaced. She forgot to bring stuff like ketchup, syrup and butter when asked more than once.. other than the food, which is very good, the service this time was bad and yet I've been there several other time and it was good! They need to find better help! If they Keep making great food, the service of that waitress will kill their business, I tip based on the level of service, she was either out back or inattentive every minute we there... I felt like I was inconveniencing her. Yet the other lady, tall older with blonde hair, was very friendly and nice! This girl with short blonde hair(bc none of the staff wear name tags) was our waitress, she seems to know the menu, so I don't assume she was that new, so even more disappointing... please don't pass this up because the food is really good, and most times the service is ok. read more

I was on a bus tour when we stopped at this diner. I will say they were ready for 36 people as far as seating goes. Since I had never been there before nor did I know they are known for their breakfast, there were no lunch menus on the table. Asking for one and receiving a printed copy on pink paper was a little strange. I ordered chicken quesidella which was greasy and without much chicken. The carpeting was filthy as well as the bathroom-that gets an F. It was a one toilet room that looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a week. The previous reviewer nailed it! This place is a hidden gem and while the owners might disagree, I'd like to keep it that way! The menu is simple but totally customizable. You want something? Ask. He'll make it for you, no problem. The veggie omlette is just LOADED with fresh broccoli, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc. Just absolutely delish. And the handcut homefries? Oh, dont get me started. Mel's has its good and bad points, but overall it was a bit of a disappointment after reading the other reviews. When we went there for the first time it was for breakfast on a Saturday morning - we found a lively, clean place. It was pretty full - a good sign - and we sat that the end of a long table rather than wait for one of our own. The service was very attentive (my coffee cup was never less than half full) but the kitchen was much slower than you would expect from a breakfast place. Once they arrived our omelettes were good enough, but really, canned mushrooms? Also, perhaps it's my pet peeve, but making homefries brown by dousing them with paprika just doesn't do it for me. I much prefer REAL browning, which takes more time and patience. All in all, an OK breakfast place, but not one I'd go out of my way for. read more

My daughter and I went to Mel's Diner for breakfast today. It had been quite a while since we had been there, and I am glad we stopped in. From an atmosphere it is exactly what the names says: A Diner, but the quality of the food was great. They have some nice options on the menu, including crepes and a Banana Split Waffle (will need to go back for those), but what I can say is the food has flavor. My daughter got the breakfast sampler which included a pancake, waffle, bacon, home fries and she added a scrambled egg. Everything was great and the home fries were very good. I got eggs over easy with corned beef hash (home made) and opted for the potato cake. Really, really good flavors. I would make this a stop on your breakfast list and will definitely be back with the rest of the family. read more

Doesn't look like much when you drive by, but I was dying of hunger so stopped in today to get a quick bite to eat. I was disappointed at the look of the carpets, which are covered in stains. But decided to give them a try anyways. I also noticed how quiet it is with no music or any entertainment. The waitress was slow to get to us, and was not friendly at all. She should find a different career path. She was mid thirties maybe, with brown hair, glasses, and didn't tell us her name. They were slamming plates under the counter which was very rude mannered. After I finished my plate I found the restroom and decided to drive elsewhere to take a leak, it's horrifying, board of health should be notified. Mel's Diner serves some delicious food, and their menu is quite interesting (they offer grits, how cool?!). The menu is big and there are plenty of options for everyone. The service has always been good at Mel's, the food is great, and the prices are super cheap. I did recently receive a flyer in the mail saying that Mel's has new owners. The flyer also stated that the breakfast menu has changed and they will soon be serving lunch and dinner. They are also now accepting credit cards, which is a huge plus! Can't wait to check out their new menu, and to see what they will be offering for lunch and dinner options. Mel's is my favorite breakfast destination in the Raynham/Taunton area. read more

I will never come here again. Came on a steady Monday and very disappointed after reading the good reviews. The service was horrible. The waitress couldn't be bothered, had horrible manners, and seemed more aggravated at us when she only delivered my meal to the table & we asked about the rest of our parties order after 5 minutes (mind you there was only two of us). People who say much longer after us had there food long before us. The waitress didn't once come over to check on us. The food was over cooked, dry, and not at all worth the wait. The pancakes were soggy & flat, bacon hard enough to break a tooth, & the handful of homefries were all grease. Once we received our bill it was entirely wrong & had things on it that we never ordered. Again, when we asked the waitress to fix it she sighed & never apologized. There is never a long wait for se turnaround is pretty quick, staff is very friendly, nothing fancy about the food but Totally solid! This is the second place I've gone to for breakfast in a week. Very disappointed first I called my order in at 9am I ordered banana and chocolate chip pancakes whic were dry and a patty melt . The waitress Barbara said we don t have patty melt I asked if they had rye bread she said yes I said then you can make a patty melt. Then she said we don t serve lunch til 11 30. I get tired of a cafe that closes at 3pm calls itself a diner! A legit diner is opened 24/7 usually a large menu you can order anything off the menu at anytime. In this period of time when restaurants are hurting you can t afford to tell a customer no. You do what it takes to keep a customer. Also I got charged extra for the cheese and sauté onions which is what a patty melt comes with . Also after I told Barbara the bread gets grilled the bread was toasted! I don t think you ll see Guy Fieri filming an episode of Diners Drive-Ins and Dives anytime soon!! I do suggest right up the street Stonebridge CAFE homemade dishes great soups. read more

Ahh Mel's how I love thee. This restaurant is the only reason you will find me up before noon on a weekend. My family has been coming here since it opened in the 60's so naturally once I was born I tagged along too. The owner (Mel) is the big, kind looking man behind the grill, which you can see through a cut out in the wall. He takes pride in his restaurant and his food. The handful of ladies serving the coffee and food are like your Mom or Grandma and they keep the place very clean. The service is fast and the food is good. You can tell its cooked with love and it is mostly local bought ingredients. I don't think anything on the menu is more than $8.00. So next time your in Raynham and your up before noon I highly recommend going in to Mel's and pulling up a chair or a stool and settling in to some big, delicious breakfast. read more
