Great, clean, elegant, and comfortable atmosphere. Generally, the staff are enthusiastic and take pride in their work. Occasionally, their attitudes border on cliche, but it's rare enough that I continue to go back. I wish their coffee was better! Their roast/beans are consistently on the ultra ripe/light/fruity side of things. The taste is reminiscent of the way rotting, wet, leaves on the sidewalk smell. This includes their espresso. Personally I prefer a dark to medium roast & this is the one big thing I'd like to see change. It is an ideal place to hang-out, relax, read, get out of the house, etc. From 7-Eleven to Starbucks, just about everywhere else in the area has better coffee. read more

I went right before 6p on a Sunday and ordered a large chocolate flavored latte and orange favorited scones. The server said my order was on the house!. When I got my drink, I asked if he could reheat my drink as I like really hot drinks. He said he'll remake it. I said it's totally fine, I'll just take my coffee and reheat it . The blaring C&C Music Factory seemed a bit ridiculous with half the crowd studying and the other half debating which Montessori school has a better playground), but if that's what keeps the baristas in such a good mood and turning out great espresso drinks I'm all for it. Stopped in after eating at the food truck park. We needed something cool in the 104 degree heat. I had a tasty iced tea and DH had a wonderful latte. The baristas were so great that they made some fresh iced teas that were herbal for our two daughters. Definitely a great stop! read more

I haven't been here in a year - but unless something has changed, this is one the best coffee places in Portland. Fresh roasted in-house, and they go through a lot of extra care making their own flavorings from scratch. I must have come here more than a dozen times over the course of a year just drinking their house coffee which is also excellent. Had some time talking to the owner, and one day he offers me one of his flavored vanilla lattes - which was exquisite. One of my favorites. read more

I'm an old crank but have not a complaint about Case Study. I hit many cafes all over town, and I think CS has the best joe. I drink it black and it's fruity and perfect. I even bought several bags whilst there for easy-peasy Christmas shopping and all were impressed! Thanks CS! The baristas are always friendly even though I rarely order more than coffee as I'm not too hungry in the early a.m.. It's spacious so I can be my chameleon-self and hide and write. It's fun to watch the parents and little ones come in, or groove on the funky dogs that are leashed up outside. I like that the staff tells me from which country the coffee hails so if I want to take some beans home, I know which I prefer. Wait! I just found this place two days ago and was really hoping that it would become my new coffee spot. But alas... Don't get me wrong, the coffee is really good. The flavors are rich, and they seem to know the art of stretching milk properly. Employee friendliness could use some work too. They seem like they could care less. Some criticisms. They don't take a name for your orders, your just supposed to magically know when the coffee you ordered is ready. The girl just calls out "16oz mocha" like only one person in that stampede of customers who ordered that right? How does anyone keep this shit straight? Am I supposed to memorize the line of people in front of me so I can tell its my order? I can't believe this place doesn't see the confusion on peoples faces approaching the coffee counter like "is this one mine?" Anyway, guy at the counter calls out "16oz mocha for here". So after no one seems to claim it I assume it was mine. After a few sips I start getting weird chunks in my sips of coffee, and it doesn't taste like a mocha. I take it back up to the counter to ask what is going on. Turns out the barista misidentified the drink he was calling out. Instead of a mocha, it was a hazelnut latte. So I waiting for my replacement, and after a bit the barista yells out, "16oz Mocha" but the coffee is in a to go cup and so I automatically assumed it wasn't mine. After it sat for a few minutes I asked the barista if she had another 16oz mocha order, and she told me she had to serve it in a to go cup because they ran out of mugs. Um... Yeah, that would be one of those things that would be really nice to tell the customer. I don't intuitively know how many clean coffee mugs are available at cafe's I don't work at, and when you put my "for here" order in a to go cup with no name attached to it and no heads up on the scarcity of your mugs, makes it hard to tell whats going on. As much as I enjoyed the coffee I won't be going back. read more

I knew I made a good choice to stop here after walking in the door and seeing the huge communal table, clean minimalist counter, and a barista in a vest. That spells my kind of coffee shop when I'm looking for a good product. Sometimes I want a cluttered/super cozy/creative space coffee shop when I'm wanting to spend the day on my laptop getting work done... but when I'm in the mood for say, a quality cup of drinking chocolate, I prefer the former. And that's just what I was on the search for this day. I had seen their advertisement in a local paper about their Madagascar hot chocolate and new right away I had to try it as I'm always on the search for the ultimate hot chocolate. Portland has many great options, but this one just may take the cake for an every day sort of overly-delicious cup. It's wasn't too thin and wasn't too thick, it was the perfect serving size, had amazing flavor that wasn't too sweet, and the toasted marshmallow on top... well let's just say out of all 3 dozen places I've tried gourmet hot chocolate all across the states, I've never had a marshmallow (toasted or untoasted) on top. Worth the $5 almost for that alone. Thank you Case Study for being only a mile from my house. I will be back. I just wish you were open later, because I usually get my cravings around 9pm. read more

The visual & musical atmosphere are both calming, the staff were all sweet, and the food is decent (albeit on the pricey end). So glad I had this place. read more

I didn't think the vibee was very welcoming, and parking sucks. Also, their pricing is ridiculous and doesn't make them competitve enough. I went with my young daughter and friends and was disappointed that thei hot chocolate option is a teeny cup for almost 3 dollars. Starbucks, right down the street offers a kids hot chocolate for a dollar. Maybe case study doesn't care about that, thinking that kids are not their target market. Well, that's a dumb move. Also, there are no comfortable couches or relaxing corners. I felt like i was in some stiff boardroom. Pretty sure I wont make an effort to go back. Just sayin'. read more
