I have something to share for all cyclists.
Wednesday before the STP week-end, I came out and rode NERD ride (North Side Evening Ride before Dark). On this day we have another ride leader. HIs name is Lichen Jin. This person should not be a ride leader in my opinion. From the start, one can tell he has not completed a pre-ride. He does not know the route, He was leading in front with his eyes looking down at his phone GPS, missed many turns, or turning as the last minute. The sweeper has to yell out for direction. All the riders talked about it during the ride.
Then when we arrived at the Boeing Perimeter, He missed another turn (he was supposed to turn left) but he went straight. Someone in the back to the group yell out left turn. Mr. Jin immediately took a Left without any signal. Lucky for me I was 1.5 bike length behind him. this gave me time to avoid the collision by veering right. I then looked over my shoulder to make sure it's ok for me to take a left turn to get back on the route with the group. it was clear, so I proceed. Half way into my turn Mr. Jin by this time decided to go back with his original plan is going straight, with his eyes looking down at his phone GPS. This is when he hit me, knocked me to the ground cause me to land on my right hip. As I stood, he was sitting on his bike top tube smiling, without asking it I was ok, or apologize to me. This when I lost it, I gave him an ears full of what I think about his leading. When we got back to the finish line, I asked for his name and phone number, he did not want to give it to me, I have to tell him that I will need to call 911, and another ride leader has to step in and ask it he is not willing to provide such information, before he provided me with his name and phone number. I came home and realized my bike was damage and my back was hurting. I called him to discus options to resolve for my damage bike. He advised me to contact CBC (Stacey Williams). I contacted miss Stacey, and all she was worried about is possible legal action, and she repeatedly informed me I signed a waiver. She further sent me any email attaching the waiver. The message is clear. CBC does not give a rat about their member well being. not once she ask how I was doing from the accident (Mr Jin was actually better in this category, he sent out an email the day after the accident asking how I was doing). For the record I am a member of CBC as well. and the club not once asked about my injury or bike condition. I understand, I signed a waiver, but as a human being do the right thing. you caused an accident, you hit me with your eyes looking at your phone instead of looking at the road. you would get a ticket if you were driving your car and look at your phone. you may me in jail for manslaughter, because you would killed me with your car. I understand you are a volunteer, but at that moment you are a representative of CBC. so CBC take responsibility. this is my story about CBC. This incident was caused my negligence. read more
