I live about 20…read moremiles away, and we're used to a smaller Market Basket in Warner and a competing store from a Maine-based conglomerate based in our hometown, which shelves often resemble a grocery store in the old Soviet Union. This store is gigantic. Not only that, but it's ready-to-go food sections are immense. Extremely well, equipped, full shelves, great variety of organic products, a huge meat section, an entire containers full of frozen fish, in addition to fresh seafood at the meat counter. I found the service to be excellent, with numerous people ambling by filling their carts while busy employees, restocked shelves consistently. For the life of me, I don't understand why this grocery chain does not have self checkout aisles. I invariably do my own to make sure that my vegetables are not bruised or damage when I get home, which usually is the case when I go through a checkout counter. I really like this place. Growing up on the north shore of Mass I've had my share of lobster rolls and I can say that I don't think I've had a better one. I ordered the cold one and it came with a large portion on a larger the normal tasty bun with pickle and fries. All delicious! We sat at the bar and the service was great! Dave, our server/bartender was friendly and knowledgeable, great service. This was our 2nd time at Makris and can also recommend the prime rib. Because the millisecond I dipped it in clarified butter and took a bite, the scallop immediately shot out of its exoskeleton of batter like a clown out of a cannon, then projected out of view into parts unknown. I thought maybe it settled somewhere amidst the booth I was sat in. But no....I never managed to locate the dislodged, rogue scallop. Now, I'm no professional chef by any means. But I've been taught that if you first coat your raw seafood in flour, then egg wash, and THEN more flour atop of that, the batter will stick better. I suspect Weathervane does not do this. Even after carefully utilizing my fork going forward with each scallop, I definitely experienced technical difficulties keeping the batter from slipping off like Teflon. But at least the scallops themselves were cooked adequately so...6 out of 10. As for the haddock, there's not much to say here, really. It's pretty standard and unremarkable. A bit mid, much like the restaurant itself. Again, I could be wrong. But it really seems like this stuff tasted way better back in the 80s/90s era. I hope this isn't just nostalgia talking. 6 out of 10. I think if you want to have some above-mid fried seafood, Lobster Boat is a slightly better choice (but only slightly). I even tried the clam chowder again and it was okay, par from the fact that I had to add layers of seasoning. As said, my overall rating remains the same. I just needed to try other menu items to confirm. It's a place I'd visit again if I was in the neighborhood or something. But I doubt I'd go out of my way again like we did tonight. He was beyond friendly & wanted to make sure our questions were answered. The freezers are conveniently labeled so that you can find the products you desire. Love that they bring in various vendors, including Fossil Farms (NJ) but also some local NH products. There are also other products, such as dressings, marinades, seasonings, etc. for sale. The store is small but very clean. Taking a left onto route 4 is a challenge but still worth a visit. The prices are extremely fair! There is also a rewards program where you can get $ off for every so many points. We signed up that very day & already have 58 points. For example, you earn $5 off for 50 points, or $10 for 100 points etc. Worth it to me! Jason said they are currently working on a new location in Epsom at the circle. It will have a different name & more of a butcher shop. He plans to keep The Healthy Buffalo open for another year, depending on inventory & how sales go with the new location.
