My kids and I went back here Saturday and had the wings and I had the burger. I was happy to see they had Guinness on tap. We sat outside on the river and couldn't have been happier. They said they had someone coming in later for live music on the river. We will be sure to check that out next time. Keep up the good work! read more

This was the second time my wife and I tried this place. We were on a foliage drive and made Gould Hill Orchard and Cedar and Main our destinations. We sat outside with a view of the river and the covered bridge. All started well and we had our draft beers quickly, but it went downhill from there. At the time we ordered our beer we also ordered an app, that unfortunately never showed up. When our drinks were delivered we ordered our lunch. After about ten minutes we started to guess the app wasn't coming. After twenty minutes we started to think lunch wasn't coming either. After thirty minutes we were getting ready to go inside, pay for our beer, and leave. This whole time we saw other staff on the patio, but not once our server. At 40 minutes our lunch showed up. Yup, no app ever came, but our lunch was cold. It was brought out by a different server, so the cooks in the kitchen must have been tired of looking at it in the window and they made someone bring it to us. A few minutes after the food came, we saw our server again (must have been a 45-minute absence) and we returned our cold food. This is when our server started to try and make things right. Since she knew we were sharing both entrees, she brought out the first item as soon as it was ready. The meatball sub with sweet potato fries was very good. The kitchen didn't just reheat all of it and did the right thing. Then our tempura cauliflower came out and it was also freshly made, and very good. One thing that sticks out was our server saying " it is embarrassing that your food was brought to you like that"! Not only did she leave our food in the kitchen till someone else had to deliver it, but she was blaming someone else. She did admit our experience was not good, and must have had to talk to the manager, because they comped our beers. One last issue though. If you are asked what side you want with your sandwich, and you list off the choices, you need to mention if any of the choices are an up charge. When we got our check there was a $3 up-charge for sweet potato fries. We would have still ordered them, but this should have been mentioned. So we are at 50% positive experience here, and will give it another chance. Our server from today may have had a bad day, or just needs some more training. read more

Cedar and Main is a breath of fresh air in Contoocook! The place is beautiful, the staff are friendly and welcoming, and the food is delicious. We wanted everything on the menu, but we had to choose a few so we went with the duck nachos, bao buns, cordon blue Mac & cheese. Duck nachos were really good, bao buns super yummy, and the Mac is next level delicious. We will definitely be back! Turns out we went back before I even posted this review! My small group dined on the patio and you cannot be the view and vibe. Music level was perfect and you could hear the river as well as talk to others at the table! First time visiting Cedar & Main. My local restaurant. Arrived at 1230pm on Sunday. The deck had three tables of patrons seated. Upon entering, we were told there would be a half hour wait. I asked to be seated outside. She said regardless of where you are seated the wait is 30 mins. I glanced to the deck, and asked, if there is space on the deck is there still a wait? The hostess replied, "We don't want to overwhelm our kitchen staff all at once, so we're not seating anyone." I've never had a restaurant say that to me! Especially during leaf peeping season and during the Brimfield Antique Show. We were seated at 1. My dining partner and I both order sandwiches with fries and onion rings. We were both pleasantly surprised by the speed of the food coming out and the food itself. However, while dining, we did overhear other servers advising that the restaurant was out of 4 items on the menu. I would suggest better planning on the owner/manager part. It is the only restaurant in town beside a pizza parlor. Be glad to be busy! Turning away guests is not a good first impression. read more

This is an update to my original post...So, I saw a review today that made me want to do a little research of my own. Now, I'll be completely honest, I've eaten at Cedar and Main Tavern numerous times since they opened their doors. We ordered a late lunch early dinner type of thing. We ordered Chicken Nachos, Chicken Quesadillas, Chicken Tenders, Boa Buns and the Meatball Diablo sandwich with Tots. The Chicken Quesadillas was packed with chicken and cheese, more chicken than you would think. The chicken tenders were so moist and full of flavor and the bee sting sauce was outstanding. The Chicken Nachos were unbelievable, tons of chicken and cheese with the normal toppings. The Meatball Diablo sandwich with a side of Tots...I think I just found my new favorite and everything was as hot as if we were eating right at the restaurant. I couldn't be happier. To those that have tried Cedar and Main Tavern and didn't think it was all that special, I would suggest trying the other establishments in our area. The front of house staff are hands down the best in the area. The kitchen staff are right on the ball, I've ordered certain things and one of the chef's came out to make sure what was on the ticket was really what I wanted. The owners are friendly and genuinely want you to have a great experience. So, if you aren't happy with your experience at Cedar and Main Tavern in Contoocook, NH and you didn't speak up...it might just be you ! And no I don't work there or have any stake in the place other than being thankful we have another restaurant in town that cares about their customers. First time here. Beautiful space, warmly greeted. Rapid drinks. Chicken wings hot and crispy but not sauced. Dipping sauce seems lazy and am I to dip my carrots in maple barbecue sauce? I like ranch better. Chopped Wedge Salad 5/10. I suggest a much finer chop, more and crispier bacon and must importantly a tangier, blue-cheesier dressing with crumbles galore. Incredible food. What a nice surprise and such a nice setting along the Contoocook river I had an incredible spaghetti and meatballs with the most delicious homemade ricotta topping. My husband had the salmon and ate every bite. And my son had a burger that he said was excellent and he ate the entire thing too. The nice surprise was their Korean french fries. Stopped in for a quick break from driving to catch up on some work - beautiful location on the water (outdoor seating during the spring and summer season is probably a prime spot) - Tots were ok - being critical the queso and pico could be more flavorful and I would've preferred them served in a large bowl to be a bit more manageable otherwise, you can't really ruin a tot?! Fish and chips sandwich is enough for 2 people. I ordered it Togo- Love that they left the top off the sandwich to prevent it from getting soggier in the container. Personally breading was a tad thicker than I prefer but seasoned well. Fries were ok. Staff was friendly and the owner was active which is great to see. Would definitely recommend. read more

Let's start with the good. The location - right on the river. The staff - all busting it. It ends there. We ordered burgers and were told the come medium, unless otherwise specified. We ordered medium rare. We received hockey pucks. But the bacon was nice. Unseasoned hockey pucks at that!! They came with limp pickles (add you own jokes here) and barely seasoned chips, which probably would have been better with the seasoning. An overly vermouth-ed martini was the beverage for each. The clam chowder tasted very roux forward and was served lukewarm. Very lackluster. The French Onion soup was decent, but a sodium bomb near the bottom was not pleasant. The rooms were quite loud and you really had to speak up to be heard, which made it louder. Plus the servers pushing booze the entire time was a bit of a bore. We had a party of 11. Only 2 dishes were the same. The person on the fry station had a very heavy hand with the salt. The calamari would have been good minus the salt and it also was not crispy, it was mushy like it was covered waiting others dishes to be readied. Other non fried dishes were good. Our waitress was extraordinary. The atmosphere was very nice, a bit loud for my taste, but then it is a tavern, right? I've made several attempts to on a variety of days to be seated solo, without any success (and frankly, barely any courtesy whatsoever). Words spread fast in a tiny town, and I'm not remotely surprised to hear from several others that they've given up too, after a few failed attempts. The service was very good and the views of the river are so beautiful. On my first visit, we had a late afternoon lunch. I ordered the fish sandwich and so did my friend. The fish was fresh and cooked perfectly. The coleslaw and French fries were excellent. The portions were generous and I had leftovers for lunch the next day. My friend ordered decaf coffee and the woman taking care of us, made a fresh pot. It was delicious coffee according to my friend. I want back for a 2nd visit a few days ago and my spouse loved the fish sandwich too. Next visit I plan to try something new. I eat fish but not other meat like chicken, beef, pork. I hope to find some good vegetarian items to try in the future. There is ample free parking and the restaurant is very nice. Good dining spaces and decor. We did not sit in the bar but it looks very large and cozy. So happy to have another place to eat in the Contoocook area. We were happy to see Cedar and Main open and the atmosphere was great. Service was solid. The food tasted good, however the sides seemed to be microwaved or sat out for too long. We stopped in for lunch and were not disappointed. Brian and staff were warm and welcoming. We sat on the deck next to the water and it was so relaxing. We did not give 5 stars because the food options were limited due to the very busy grand opening. It allowed us try other food options which were very tasty. My family of 4 & I spent the Saturday for lunch following Christmas at this relatively new restaurant. We were so glad we did. Good restaurants in rural areas of NH are hard to find. But Cedar & Main is well worth the visit. It was very busy inside as we found the parking at its max. Yes we waited about 10/15 min. in the lobby for a table however we were offered quick seating in the bar. The service was good. We were provided immediate attention for seating overlooking the River with liquid refreshments. The decor was artful & creative. The menu's for food, beer & wine was extensive. I had a Reuben sandwich which was excellent. It was so big for me I had to take half home as did my daughter. Obviously the servings are ample for even the biggest appetites. The food was served hot, the beer cold and the prices are very competitive. My wife, I and grown-up children all thought this place is well worth the return again & again.
