I think I would really like this place a lot more if I enjoyed lobster. For the last decade or so, I've been here numerous times with family and for business. Every time I come, the entire table gets the table side lobster special. Myself, not being a fan of lobster always ends up struggling to pick something else. Last night I tried their Chicken Scarpiello. It was ok. Not bad, but nothing memorable. The rest of the table (10 others) all ordered 2-3lbs tableside cooked lobsters. Everyone seemed to really enjoy it. Those dishes come with a choice of any app and any dessert. Which makes sense after seeing the bill. We averaged about 100 a head (with tip). So going off my families input, Id recommend this place solely for that lobster special. Other than that, I have other favorites in the area for Italian. read more

I've been here once for a work Christmas dinner. The spot was small , they sat us on the lower level which some of the people we were with weren't a fan of. I personally didn't mind and the crowd there was lively and entertaining. Food was really good. I thought we had a nice time! Definitely want to try again for a regular dinner. read more

So in my younger years, I had applied for a job there and I did not get it even though I had outstanding references and experience as a server and bartender. Someone told me that they only hire men. I tell you this because at least 30 years have past, with that being said. My husband and I and another couple decide to give it a try. Well still there is an all male crew. The place is quaint and gives you a cozy feel. They offer a restaurant week price fix menu which if you do, the math is exactly the same as the regular menu. It's $42 a person but if you want a ribeye steak, it's an additional $15 so basically the same as the regular menu. When the bartender Adele turned waiter came to take our order and it came to my husbands turn I ordered for him cause I know what he wanted so the waiter turns to my husband and say"what's the matter you can't speak for yourself ?"there were other comments made by him that were in appropriate but I'm not writing a novel. He was a bit of a wise ass. Food was good, but nothing to write home about. For their price point I would expect better. I will not be returning. We will take a pass and find a better place. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants. It our go-to restaurant for special family events. They treat us like royalty every time we go there. If there is something we are ever unhappy with, they do whatever they can do to make it to our liking. Their lobster flambe is a special we order quite often. It is out of this world, great! Great service. Baked clams and house salad were good. However my husband's veal Parmesan was not so good. If it was cooked very well however the tomato sauce was horrible. Can I give it zero stars? Horrible experience at this restaurant. Not only was the food absolutely disgusting, but it's very pricy and the waitstaff was so rude. Heating up an old can of Chef Boyardi would be better than what we were served here. And the waitstaff has the gall to scoff at me when I ask for something else instead. The unfortunate homophobic incident has placed a curse on one of the, if not the best Italian restaurant on Long Island. If what I read is true, then those staff members should be fired immediately. That said, As the former owner of The Wine & Spirit Company of Commack and Vanderbilt Wines, and a Smithtown resident from 1990 to 2001, I've dined at Casa Rustica dozens of times. I have experienced food so transcendent that it was tantamount to a trip to the rolling hills of Tuscany. Since moving out of state, I have returned a few times and have always been thrilled with the food and service. While those staff members should be removed, it saddens me that the more than 30 years of excellence that Casa Rustic has exhibited may be defined by this unfortunate incident. It is incumbent upon the restaurant to weed out intolerant employees, and yes there is no place for this in 2019. However we live in a world where a single incident of abhorrent behaviour can severely damage if not erase all the wonderful things that this restaurant has brought to the Long Island dining experience. The piling on of one star reviews gives a distorted picture of the experience that thousands of people have experienced at Casa Rustica. For a highly rated restaurant, it takes about five 5 Star reviews to neutralize just one 1 Star review. read more

Dined during restaurant week. Great deal 3 course meal. They even had escargot as an appetizer. Excellent as was the salmon entry and pastas dish with calamari and scungli. Desert choices first rate tartufo and Rum cake. Cappuccino excellent hot and full bodied, also excellent wine list. Service very attentive. Inside sort of rustic very comforting. High prices for small portions of below average food. Wife ordered Ravioli. 6 thin raviolis with hardly any cheese inside for $24. I ordered Carbonara. Tasted nothing like Carbonara. Again $24. Everyone's food came out at different times. They brought two at a time. Then 10 mins later another two then 10 mins later another two. Waiters kept reaching in front of me and bumping into me without even saying excuse me. Our dining experience, for our Anniversary, was disappointing. As we pulled into the parking lot, we were greeted by the valet who seemed like he just didn't feel like working. He had the parking ticket between his fingers and turned his hand. This was his way of offering the ticket to us. Little, if anything, was said. A man in rolled up sleeves and a button down shirt walked to the door and escorted us inside. We didn't know if he worked there. Maybe he just parked our car. We weren't sure. He next arrived at our table and asked us for our drink order. Very strange. They sat us by the bar. Customers entering and sitting on bar stools were distracting, as was the two TV's on the wall. For a higher end restaurant, this was very disappointing. The waiter was helpful but also seemed like he'd rather be elsewhere. We received none of the attentiveness that we expected. We shared the surf and turf. Both were good, not spectacular, but good. In the car, after our meal, we reminisced about the Casa Rustica from the past. We remarked about how delicious the food was and how the waiters were so attentive and addressed you with respect. I don't think we will be returning anytime soon. read more

Was one of our favorite restaurants for special occasions, but food and service are deteriorating. We made a reservation, but still had a long wait and were located right by the bar. Staff was yelling for table setup while we waited. Service with 2 kids was very slow and required asking for someone to help us regularly. Bread was slightly stale. Food was average to good, but not outstanding. They apologized for the slow service by saying they were short staffed, but that is not a good excuse at a premium restaurant. Great Italian restaurant on the island without having to travel to the city! This is a classy establishment. Valet parking, coat check, classy clientele and excellent service. We walked in and there seemed to be a line of waiters welcoming us... I recommend taking your wife or signifigant other as this is a real hidden gem in a great romantic setting. Went to Casa Rustica the Saturday after Valentines Day. 8:30 reservation turned into a 10:15 seating... ridiculous. We had kind of figured this would happen on such a busy night but not this crazy. The staff was very apologetic and did their best to make us feel welcomed. Once sat we were treated to an appetizer, drink and desert on the house which really helped make up for the horrible wait. The food was amazing, great presentation and even better taste. I am a picky eater and expect a lot when I pay a lot and I was impressed. Drinks are very over priced - one warning. Not as good as it used to be. Presentation is very good, but certain dishes just weren't there. Ordered the mussel appetizer and many of the shells were empty. There was a "T" bone veal special. What was there was perfectly prepared. On one side of the "T" was just fat. Perhaps there was a total of 4-5 oz of edible meat. If it weren't for the bread, I would have left hungry. We went on a rainy Saturday night with two other couples and every table was filled, so I guess they are doing something right! Casa Rustica was on our list for Restaurant Week, and we went last night. The menu offered was terrific. The food was terrific. My one complaint is: How do professional waiters NOT put your dish in front of you, and place the dish in front of the wrong person? I worked in restaurants for over 20 years... all not as elegant as Casa Rustica, & ALWAYS put the correct dish to the correct seat! It happened during the appetizer course and again when the entrees were served! We were a table of 4, and we were all surprised these waiters didn't serve our table with the correct order of who got what! Come on ! read more

This is a traditional Italian cuisine with a rustic feel and fire place. As you walk into the restaurant, there is a bar directly in front of the entrance with a private room to your left. The dining room is a 90 degree turn to the right of the lobby bar with a walk down into the dining room. The dining room has its own small bar without seating as you enter the dining room. The dining room is cozy, but can be loud when you are sitting by large parties. On this visit I had the Octopus Salad as an appetizer and the Lamb Chops for an entrée. Both were excellent. The Oyster Rockefeller was fabulous also, probably the best we have had at any restaurant. read more

Hands-down the worst dining experience I have ever had. Service was absolutely deplorable. Waiter seemed annoyed from the moment we sat down at our table. When our appetizer was placed he scoffed when we said we would be sharing it. It then took 45 minutes for the appetizer to get to our table. The waiter never came to ask us if we wanted another beverage, never asked how we were doing, if we would like more bread, nothing. After the appetizer was taken away it was another half hour and we had not received our meals. We told the manager that we had still not been given our entrées, 20 minutes later still no food. We told the waiter we wanted the check. He then came over minutes later with our meal, without even as little as an apology. Manager also was not to be seen at our table again to check in on us or to apologize for the long wait time in receiving our meal. Save your money it is absolutely not worth it. We dined early as two couples and were seated immediately. The specials were read and we picked some additional items from the menu. Appetizers included octopus salad, Nona's meatballs, fresh mozzarella, pasta fagioli and garden salads. The entrees we chose were veal chop, seafood (clams, mussels, shrimp) linguine, sea bass and chicken parmesan. Coffee all around and shared tartufo and cheesecake. I would probably give this restaurant 3.5 stars if I could. Went with a friend yesterday for dinner because it was restaurant week and my friend had heard really good things about this place. A really good sign that this is authentic Italian is that all the other patrons were Italian. The servers were all really polite and courteous. I can't speak on how authentic the food is but overall the food was just a bit above ok. The rice ball appetizer was good. I liked that the rice was al dente and not overcooked. My friend had the arugula salad which was also really good. Our entrees took forever and my pork tenderloin was on the dry side. I had the tiramisu for dessert and it had good flavor but it was a little too soggy. This was a nice place to try and I'm glad I came but I prob. wouldn't come back and pay full price. read more

This restaurant is phenomenal. My husband and I had a date night here and everything was excellent. We started with an octopus special that was tender and flavorful. We also had the baked clams oreganata. We could not decide which we liked more. I had a pasta special with fresh pasta, shrimp, and scallops in a delicious lobster broth. My husband had a ribeye steak special that was topped with eggplant, prosciutto, and mozzarella. Like the octopus, the steak was also very tender. We finished off our meal with a nutella cheesecake and chocolate mousse cake, both of which were divine. Our waiter was personable and attentive. Very nice place / decor. My wife and I got a warm seat by the fireplace, which was great on this very cold night. We arrived to our 6:00 reservation to an empty room, at least the smaller room with the fireplace. The service was great early before the rush hit around 7:00, then the staff got a little overwhelmed, tending to the larger parties and kinda forgetting the couples. It was still decent service - it did get busy. Food-wise was very good. - The apps were the meatballs (2) and rice balls (2). Both were excellent. I had the Occhietti pasta dish, which is pretty basic but makes me happy. My wife had the rigatoni bolenese, but thought it was just OK. We split the tiramisu, which was really good. Overall it was a good experience but a $135+ pasta dinners for 2 (3 glasses of wine between the two of us though) seemed on the pricey side. Will we be back? Maybe. For their prices I'd rather keep exploring a little bit. read more

We had 6.00 pm reservations on Saturday night and was not seated till 6:45. There was a party and people were just hanging around so it was hard for servers to fix the tables. Never should have taken the reservation knowing that a party was ending. The hostess at the front was totally useless. Did nothing to correct or expedite the situation. At one point I went up again as there were now at lawsuit 6 tables ready to be seated and she tells me were are next. I stated we had all these empty tables so what were they doing. Another gentlemen than sat our party while i was dealing with this incompetent hostess. Saw another couple being eaten and they waited for at least 15 minutes before anyone come up to them. They wound up getting up and leaving. Food had to be returned as it was friend and not grilled because of a gluten issue at our table. All in all a terrible dinner and not worth the money. read more

IMy family and I have been going to this restaurant for many years. Just recently a friend and I went for dinner and had a very bad time. The wait service was very slow and unprofessional. The loud horrible screeching live music from the bar filled the room that we were eating. I made a reservation and expected to be seated in the main dining room however we will put in this room off the bar area which was horrible. The waiter it was unprofessional, overwhelmed, and not very good. The waiter need to take a shower, clean himself up and act like a professional. The restaurant and the service has totally gone downhill. This restaurant is losing its crown. They need to get their act together and get the rating back up. It's a shame they let it go. The host was actually on his cell phone on a personal call , as he seated a table for 4 young ladies to the table and walked away. He should be let go. It's too bad. Don't go! Want to hear a nice story? It's birthday time and my friends want to go someplace special. They choose Casa Rustica and I don't have the heart to tell them about my past experiences there. A weird room made me feel like I was having dinner in a basement. It was overpriced, and they never honor reservations. I say nothing but I'm not really expecting much. And so, when we show up at 7:30 on Saturday evening I am expecting the worst. This is what actually happened. The valet takes our car and we enter the restaurant. A very pleasant hostess checks our reservation and escorts us to an excellent table in the main dining room. (I had never been seated there before). We are greeted by a very professional server who takes our drink order. Could this be the same restaurant that was so poor just a few years ago. Drinks come and we are told the specials. One is a 2 lb. lobster dinner, complete with any starter, coffee and dessert for about $55.00. Remember, this is Saturday night. So much for too expensive. Our meals came promptly and no one at our table had a single complaint - apps through dessert were uniformly good. Everyone had a super evening. What a wonderful improvement. If they can repeat this kind of experience Casa Rustica will once again rise to the 5 yelp star elites. read more
