Bucket list Wifey & I came out after our morning walk. I had the matcha & she had the latte. Great music & customer service. Sandwich was very tasty.

I discovered this cafe while wandering through downtown. It's a cozy spot with outdoor seating, and the service is pretty fast! They offer fun seasonal drinks. I tried the iced chai and matcha, which had a good matcha-to-milk ratio.

We tried a new place for our cafecito and shared a breakfast sandwich. My cafecito was yummy. Sandwich was really good. The bagel for the breakfast sando was soft and chewy. The hubby's matcha was extra grassy.... Great customer service & vibe. We looooved the music they were playing. * Banana Nut Latte * Banana Pudding Matcha * Breakfast Sando #DiningWithTheAndersons #CafeAlessie #TryingNewPlaces #Cafecito

I stumbled into Cafe Alessie by chance when Izola was closed--and I'm so glad I did. What started as a backup plan quickly turned into a new favorite. The BF Sando sandwich on an everything bagel was a standout--the bagel was clearly freshly baked, not store-bought, with the perfect texture and flavor. It even came with a side of freshly made potato chips that added the perfect crunch. From the first bite to the last, it left me wanting more and already planning my next visit. The cafe shop is very small but cute. The outdoor seating has such a charming touch--each table is adorned with a small flower vase that subtly elevates the entire experience of dining outside. It's those little details that make you want to slow down and enjoy every moment. The coffee was just as impressive. I love that they offer a "sweetness meter" to guide your drink selection, especially since I prefer less sweet options. The Banana Pudding Latte (I ordered mine without vanilla to cut the sweetness) and the Honey Cinnamon Latte were both delicious--rich, balanced, and thoughtfully crafted. Honestly, they don't even compare to Starbucks. I really appreciated the friendly staff taking our order and she was very friendly and helped us make our selection. The not so good: The lines can be long. And if it's hot outside, there is only two tables inside. Most people wouldn't pay for a $8 coffee- thank goodness for having a husband that spoils me. A hidden gem I'll definitely be coming back to.

Lucky Double Matcha, Lucky Charms Latte

Cafe Alessie is a quaint cafe tucked away in Downtown San Diego. When you approach the cafe, there are a lot of seating and tables outdoors. There's also some seating inside that is perfect for working or hanging out with friends! Parking is metered street parking around the block. My friend and I got the Lucky Double Matcha and Lucky Charms Latte, which were specials for their spring season. We first tried the matcha latte, which definitely had more of an astringent matcha taste. The foam was on the more airy/foamy side rather than creamy. However, the cream top on the latte was very thick and creamy! It was not as green as expected since we did see a TikTok of their green cream colored w spinach, but the light hint of green was still a fun touch. I preferred the latte over the matcha, but I know they have a lot of other fun drinks on their menu!

Yes the hype for this coffee shop is real ! I stopped by on a Monday morning around 9 am and found parking in the front of the shop ( all meter parking). I must have gotten there at a good time as there was only one person ordering in front of me . I ordered the iced banana latte and a concha , the line to order was out the door once I waited for my order . It's a small shop but they have at least 8 small tables outside . I can imagine it is very crowded on a weekend! The banana latte was 10/10, the espresso was rich and the banana cold foam was sooo delicious!! The chocolate concha 10/10 which they outsource from a local bakery was soft and delicious. I will definitely be returning again! Also I saw someone order the sandwiches and those look amazing for lunch!

We ordered their banana pudding latte which was delicious! The cream wasn't too sweet and didn't overpower the coffee. It's also very unique and something you won't find elsewhere nearby. The blueberry toast, although pricey at around $10, was also delicious. I love the freshness that the basil and lemon zest give, and they don't scrimp on the berries. Beautiful cafe with comfortable indoor and outdoor seating. Service could be better, though. I feel like the whole interaction could be warmer. I also mistakenly picked up the wrong box of food when we had a miscommunication and I felt like I was gaslit about it, lol. Overall, I'd still go back and try the matcha as well next time.

Ambiance is so aesthetically pleasing. There is seating inside and out. The matcha is sweet and delicious. Parking was surprisingly easy in downtown.

Matcha with honey cloud

I stopped by this matcha spot after hearing so much about it, and it's easy to see why it's popular. The shop itself is super cute with adorable decor, but it's definitely on the smaller side. There's not much room to stand in line or wait for your drink, so it can feel a little crowded when it gets busy. I ordered the matcha with honey cloud. The honey cloud was tasty on its own, but it was way too thick for my liking and pretty hard to mix into the matcha. It felt like the textures didn't really blend well together. The matcha itself wasn't very strong in flavor -- which might be perfect for some people -- but I personally prefer a more bold, earthy matcha taste. Overall, even though it wasn't exactly my preference flavor-wise, I can understand why this place draws a crowd. If you like a lighter matcha and aesthetic vibes, it's probably right up your alley.

I think they have the best matcha in town here! The drinks are so good. I love their cold foams, they're so thick and creamy. I recently checked out their limited-time seasonal spring menu and I'm in love. They never miss! The only thing is please don't come if you're in a hurry--they're intentional with what they're making you, especially if it's coming from the kitchen. Their space is small so plan accordingly!

I have been trying all the matcha spots in San Diego over the last few years and this place is amazing. Their matcha is so smooth! They have a lot of different flavors you can to the matcha. I got the coconut matcha with almond milk. They are also so kind and helpful. I can understand why it gets so busy. This place is really wonderful.

This place has been popping since it opened and for good reason! Not their drinks so unique and fun, they're also absolutely delicious (the pistachio latte was like nothing I've ever had and it HIT)! Surprisingly nothing was overly sweet, they were very well balanced with the right hints of flavor and rich coffee. Also decided to try one of their pastries, can't remember the name but it was the tiramisu one. I wasn't sure what I would bite in to, but it's almost like a bread that's so light with a savory and sweet balance, and the tiramisu filling was light and a wonderful complement. I would come again just for this!

I got the pistachio matcha & short rib sandwich. She got the seasonal guava matcha & alessie sandwich minus ham.

My sister & i went yesterday and we loved it! It was busy the entire time we were there, which i took as a good sign. The man who took our orders was very nice, my sister had another conversation with him & actually found out that him & his wife were the owners. Food was good. Drinks were good. Atmosphere was good. They actually had so much traffic, we wondered if they would be expanding soon!

The menu featured various matcha tea drinks which seems to be all the rage right now. The same seating arrangement of the bar countertop and tables across from it was available if you wanted to hang out and chill. A sign behind the bar described the ceremonial grade matcha that was used with the region of origin and the flavors imparted to the powder. Five different matcha drinks were offered along with hot and cold coffees and lattes. The top three matcha choices were priced at $8 each. I chose the Ordinary Pleasure which was the first one. Pandan sticky rice milk and mango puree were added to the matcha and topped with a salted coconut foam. I wasn't a fan of the foam, but the matcha flavor was intense and contrasted by the fruity puree on the bottom of the cup. The baristas were very focused with measuring the exact amounts for each ingredient in the drinks they were preparing. The matcha quality seemed to be very good based on what I tasted so maybe it's why the price was $1 higher than what I have tried elsewhere.

I honestly expected this drink to be very gimmicky and too sweet but was surprised when it seemed to strike the perfect balance. I could taste both the matcha AND the mango puree AND the salted coconut foam without one overpowering the other! What delicious witchcraft is this? The mango was subtle but there. The drink was creamy and thick. Such a refreshing summer drink! The cafe itself is super cute and quaint with a trendy, boho chic vibe. Baristas were super friendly. I would come back again!

Unfortunately, there were no signs or guidance showing where the line should be directed, which made things confusing from the beginning. By the time I reached the front, the owner (I'm assuming) a woman with glasses and long black hair spoke to me in a passive-aggressive tone and told me the line was actually on the other side. Given the setup, it wasn't obvious at all. There's a fence directly in front of the shop, and with the large crowds that day, it was even more chaotic. I tried to be understanding and moved to the correct spot, but while I was waiting for my drink, she repeated the same interaction with several other customers in the same tone. People were clearly confused, walking around the fence trying to figure things out, and without any guidance, I saw multiple customers leave frustrated. Customer service, especially from the owner, was disappointing and could definitely be improved particularly during busy events when clear communication matters most. That said, I'll give credit where it's due: the drinks were great. I'd rate my banana coffee a solid 4.5/5, it was delicious, and the heart-shaped straw was a really cute touch. If you're running a business, especially in a high-traffic setting, better organization and customer service would make a huge difference.

The place is located on one of the main strips in the community, Logan Ave, near Salud. This is the only local street in which I have seen vehicles parallel park in the median of the road without any concern from law enforcement. It is certainly an unorthodox solution to help with the parking situation as the legal curbside spaces fill up quickly. There was an outdoor kitchen setup behind the house including a wood-fired pizza oven, smoker, Santa Maria grill, and fire pit. All of the seating was al fresco either at tables in the front patio or at picnic tables in the backyard and deck. You walk up the steps and through the front door to place your order at the service counter in the main room. Some prepared foods and drinks were available as grab and go items. Pizzas and paella will be the main focus of their menu. For the soft opening, four pizzas, a vegan paella, and skirt steak tacos were the choices. I chose the last item for my meal. Arracherra skirt steak, grilled onions, and chiles were accompanied by flour tortillas and guacasalsa. The components were placed on a rectangular cutting board as a serving vessel. The steak was cooked medium rare and then sliced into pieces that could fit inside a tortilla. The two grilled chiles had a nice smoky flavor to them. The avocado based salsa added a creaminess to the meat and vegetables. For the food quality and relaxed outdoor setting, I gave a four star rating for my initial experience at Cafe Califas.

We didn't know what the menu would be until we went inside, but we weren't disappointed when we learned it was wood fired pizza, a personal favorite. Our sausage/mushroom pizza was delicious!
