My friend and I stopped by for dinner on a Saturday around 7pm and we're sat immediately at the bar area. They have good music playing and on the tv's there's videos constantly playing, so it's a really relaxed vibe. There was a ton of open space and my friend explained how it was a fairly new place. I ordered a margarita and a Paloma and both were delicious, yet strong! The staff also brought us chips and salsa for the wait. For our meals, I ordered the Camarones Empanizados and my friend ordered the Tamales Verdes. The food arrive in a timely manner and although the meal was large, I personally was not a fan of my shrimps, it was more breading than shrimp. Although the beans were my fav, really good! My friend did like her tamales though! Overall, it was a good experience. The staff was very aware of us and kept checking in to make sure we didn't need anything. I will say for a Saturday, the restaurant was pretty slow and empty, which we found surprising as the food and drinks were good. They also started rolling in a dj and a waitress talked to us about how for a couple weeks now they've been turning it into a lounge scene in the after hours. Nice looking bar; maybe a little too nice for Modesto, but I hope they end up sticking around. This place has been under construction for ages and I went there during a car show for one of their soft openings. There was a little bit of a frantic vibe among the staff, but that is what happens at a soft opening. The servers were friendly and were doing their best. They have a pretty big selection of tequilas and made a good paloma. They also made an outstanding dirty martini. We got some chips and the salsa was delicious, so hopefully that is a sign that they pay attention to making good food. It looks like a nice spot to spend an evening with adult friends and make new ones. Next time I will order some food and update the review. read more

He was very attentive and even accommodating when it came to me when everything on their new menu wasn't what I wanted. And for THAT I give them 3 stars instead of 2. This place is nicer inside than I was expecting, and probably offers the best views anywhere in Modesto. These views consist of the corner of I and 10 streets, and the multiple homeless people that are attracted to this intersection for some reason. Once I opened the menu, I understood why this place is always empty. I couldn't decide on a drink because I didn't want any of them. I also found the same problem when it came to the food. Unsurprisingly, I ended up not liking anything I ordered. The beans were extremely salty and sour, and the chicken mole had no flavor. I can only imagine coming back if I were someone who only liked Mexican food, and was too lazy to make it myself. If you just have to have Mexican food, I would suggest you expand your horizons. My recommendation would be to diversify the menu. There's more Mexican veggies than just beans and rice, and there's more you can do with tequila than just Margarita variations. Also, my crappy orange juice cocktail came out to a surprising $22, which is pretty deceptive since there's no prices on the menu. For that money I should've gone to Dewz, who in my opinion has the best cocktails in town for the same price. This small tourist trap across the street from a music venue touts itself as a "tequila bar". Well, after asking for 3 of the more popular tequilas we finally had to use the internet to get a picture of a bottle to show the waitress, We settled for a Long Island iced tea and a rum & coke instead since they could not find any tequilas that we were happy with Thought the appetizer menu looked good so we added a plate of bbq wings, Our drinks arrived with a camera operator attached so they could stream it with their annoying karaoke theme, really really annoying ! they did not ask our permission to show us on their stream but hey, we were in public so no illusions of privacy, just would've been nice to have been asked,. After finishing our very watered down drinks our wings finally arrived, they must have left them in the microwave too long because these were obviously Costco wings simply reheated and left on the plate till the bbq sauce hardened enough to make them stick to the plate. Overall one of the worst experiences at any restaurant that I have ever had. I would advise you not to try the food at all! My lady and I shared a French toast plate and two pieces in we found a big cockroach/bug. The one server, who was also the only bartender and actually hustling, told us she would show the manager. She takes the plate to the back and 10 minutes later still no manager or response. Come to find out the lazy staff member who had been sitting watching people need refills and help but doing nothing, was actually the manager, and took her over 10 minutes to come address our table. The only "work" she was doing was sitting down wiping off there specials board. You would think the bug in your food and your customer would be more important than wiping a board off. Then when she came to address the table and apologize about the bug in our food, it was the most insincere apology I have ever experienced. She barely apologized and tried to say it's never happened before and that the Indian establishment next door was the problem. Completely shoving the blame on another restaurant and kept referring to their culture and race instead of owning the issue. If your management is that lousy I could only imagine how terrible your food handling practices are. Overall, one of the worst experiences I have ever had at any restaurant and by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced from any so called restaurant manager. read more

Stoped her with family. Place an oder probably 3-4 dishes waited over 40 minutes for the food. When complained to waitress she said if "you have a big oder it'll take long" I said no & she said she'll get our waitress to come check on us, our waitress never did, finally 45 minutes afterwards our food came, portions were small and not authentic, table next to us left because food was taking over 40 minutes to be ready. We - family of 4 - 2 adults and 2 kids went to Modesto to visit museums, check out the buildings and try local kitchen. After looking at different cafes landed in this one. We ordered food and then decided to check the reviews and found that the rating of this place is so low! I was a bit confused, but order was made and we decided to check what happens next... After ~10 minutes our order was ready and it was brought to us on clean and nice plates! Me and my wife shared a Molcajete and kids took burger and crepes. Everything was fresh and delicious! First & LAST TIME! If I could give this restaurant NO/ZERO STARS I would. We went for the first time for Friday night dinner. We ordered appetizer, dinner & a bottle of Korbel Brut Champagne. We were charged $150 for a bottle of Korbel Brut Champagne...REALLY?!?! Korbel Brut Champagne as pictured is anywhere from $15-$20 at the store. We asked to speak to the manager, a waitress approached our table, said she was the manager & proceeded to discuss our very overly priced Korbel Brut Champagne bottle charge. She asked us if the waiter discussed the price of the Korbel Brut Champagne bottle prior to purchase, we said No (who in their right mind would pay for a $150 for Korbel Brut Champagne bottle, this is not a Michelin 5 star restaurant) if we would have known the Korbel Brut Champagne bottle was $150 prior to ordering we would have never purchased the bottle & NO WHERE on the menu was the bottle price, we furthermore told her the description price on the Korbel Brut Champagne bottle was typed in some odd code (it did not say Korbel Brut Champagne bottle) on our bill, she then said we received bottle service at our table & at NO time did anyone employed at the restaurant refresh our champagne drinks so then several minutes later the male bartender whose shirt also said he was the manager basically told us the same thing as the female waitress manager. We asked him what a glass of champagne would cost? His reply "we done don't have to tell you". We were dismayed that a restaurant manager would not tell us the price of a glass of sparkling champagne at his restaurant, we told him the price of Korbel Brut Champagne bottle at a retail store, he replied back by saying "You can go to the store & get it then". This was a nice place to try for the atmosphere but I probably would not visit here for anything more than a cocktail in the future. We ordered the tower of fruit and some asada fries. The fruit was good and I liked the little shaker of Tajin they brought out along side with it. The asada fries were not my favorite, the meat had a different flavor that I would expect from an asada spice blend and it had an aftertaste I couldn't get over. We also ordered a few drinks, the estilo viejo was okay but has potential to be better. If you order this drink, I recommend asking for extra slices of lime as the ginger beer is a bit overpowering in the drink and the watermelon doesn't get to shine. The fuego fresco was a bit too spicy and had a lot of seeds and wasn't as refreshing as we expected it to be. We ended up returning this to the bar and got the 1, 2, 3 tamarindo drink in exchange. This one tasted like pulparindo lol I liked it a lot! Also, the service here is great. Everyone is extremely friendly and made sure you were taken care of. Ok guys, I read the (mostly negative) reviews for this place and felt like I had to see for myself. We had a party of 5 and decided to try it for lunch. Not busy at all, but definitely a VERY COOL VIBE here!!! Salsa was really delicious and the chips were BOMB!! Both were very freshly made. The waitress said that the chef prepares the salsa daily, so it could be super spicy or just mildly spicy, depending on the fresh peppers!! We all had different drinks and they were each delicious! Freshly squeezed juices and beautifully presented. I'm super excited when there is "care" put into presenting my food/drinks. I will post pictures of our food. One of the guests had fish tacos, one had carne asada tacos, I had the shrimp chimichanga, another guest had the chicken tostadas, and yet another had carnitas tacos. Let me say...the food was delicious and the presentation was BEAUTIFUL! The fresh strawberry salad was to-die-for! Look at my pics to get the full effect! We WILL be back for sure. The other day we went for dinner with a group of friends for a birthday party. This restaurant gets five stars for us so many reasons! First of all most Mexican restaurants, to me, are hit and miss with having good food and consistency. The food was great! Even the Mexican rice was good! This restaurant also had beautiful food plating. Now, I just hope the food stays consistent. We ordered drinks, and I ordered labios Conpartidos Which was super yummy! Apparently it was muddled strawberries and tequila. It was very refreshing. I wish I had taken pictures of the food and drink but I forgot as I was too busy enjoying everything! The customer service was superb! I am not sure if it was the owner that came up to greet us a few times, but he was very Friendly as he checked on us. The waiter was excellent. He separated our checks without raising an eyebrow and was very attentive. The ambience was gorgeous ! It reminded me of one of those restaurants in Santa Monica, where are the windows open. We went in the evening, and I greatly appreciated the dim lighting as opposed to a super bright restaurant. For the birthday, we brought in a cake. I had asked the waiter if he could provide plates and forks and instead he offered to take the cake put the candles on and bring it out. And of course he brought the plates and the forks out! On his way out with the cake they saying happy birthday to our dear friend. They brought out a sombrero and maracas. It was very sweet and felt very genuine. Part 2..... The table next to us was quietly complaining about the ridiculously slow service, especially the bar. On one of the "Where are our drinks?" occasions, our server did say, "It's not me....the bar is really backed up!!". I felt so bad for her! She was really trying hard to keep her tables and guests happy, but she was NOT getting support from the kitchen or bar, and it was wearing thin on us all. Five minutes later....our server came out of the kitchen, and grabbed her purse out of the hostess podium. We heard her tell the hostess that she had a family emergency and she WALKED OUT!!! Guests looked at each other knowing exactly what just happened. It was so sad! I think she was a good server but the restaurant was not performing AT ALL! Too many bosses.... at least 3 or 4 of them consulting with each other every 5 minutes. Bartender was overwhelmed....by the 5p crowd? At a tequila bar? Maybe they need a dedicated bartender for dinner guests? Idk but that problem needs to be fixed! At least our drinks were free but at their expense. Prob not the first time. Our table wasn't the only one that was left dirty and then guests were seated in the mess. And I never saw any bussers....only servers and bosses. Maybe the bosses could bus the tables and help keep it clean and sanitary? That was REALLY unacceptable!! And I saw it happen at several tables. No drink menu? At a TEQUILA BAR? (Maybe that was strategic so no one would experience the bad bar service?) I wouldn't expect a drink menu at Applebee's but I surely did here. I did want to cut them some slack because I realize that this is a new restaurant, only open for about a month. By now, I would hope they'd have their shizz together. They. Do. Not. Hard to screw up Mexican food in the Valley, but Casa Maestro is here to show you it can be done, with dismally slow bar and food service, dirty booths and tables, and bosses that chat with each other rather than helping out at the bar, or kitchen, or bus tables, or help out their servers. Get it together! A strong, dedicated GM, a new bartending crew and a few bussers could whip this place into success. It's a fantastic location....don't waste your golden opportunity on such horrible service. read more

It's been almost a week since my visit so I've had some time to mull over what I want to say in this review. Service: I understand it was a soft opening weekend, so shouldn't everyone have brought their A game? The manager at the time came by several times but many of those times were before we had our food had been served. We asked for tequila shots of Patron, and about ten minutes later the server came back and said "we ran out of Patron." What tequila bar runs out of Patron at 5:30pm on a Saturday afternoon? And then we ordered a different tequila and it arrived 5 minutes later. Then, the worst sin in restaurantdom occurred: the food came out in stages. The first dish came out nearly 30 minutes before the last in a party of 5. All of this to say that there was a limited food offering for the soft opening and the manager saying "all the food will come out at the same time"...very perplexing. Food quality: buckle up. We ordered: an asada burrito, a chicken quesadilla, steak fajitas, a combo fajitas, and shrimp fajitas. The burrito was unsatisfying. You're better off getting one a block away at the taco trucks. Seriously. It was just such a disappointment from the soft opening. The chicken quesadilla felt like canned chicken that they then blended into cat food. The flavor was lacking, but the tiny pebble of guacamole was delicious. The steak fajitas were mediocre. When they arrived, they were cold, the steak was dry like they had been sitting for a while while the potential deliciousness dried out. The combo fajitas were fine, according to my brother in law, but he'll eat anything. Finally, the shrimp fajitas. There were more bell pepper strips than fajitas. Literally, there were 4 pieces of shrimp, and very little onion. All the fajita plates did NOT come with tortillas; they came with tortilla chips, Rosarita canned beans (I'm almost certain of it), and negligible amount of guacamole (which was at least tasty). We ordered some drinks as well, but those were okay considering the bartender probably followed a recipe. All in all, this was such a disappointment and it was a soft opening weekend. I'm inclined to go again (maybe) in a couple of months once they've worked their kinks out but this was disappointing to say the least. read more

Beware--even at that time of day the music is loud even though there were very few customers there. I had the Paloma and my colega had labios compartidos--both just ok. We shared a shrimp molcajete and I expected more nopal than just two strips of it on there. The place gets 4 stars only because the servers were very attentive but the food seemed overpriced.
