I had such a good time here! It's a little kitschy and very lively. The restaurant has two sides; one side has a full bar where people seem to like hanging out. Not sure why, but all of the staff seem to be charming men, in case that matters to you. It was still decorated for Christmas at the time, but it has a throwback quality in general that I like. Note the oversized framed poster of a pretty Budweiser lady from the 90s. At any rate, it's a family place with solid Mexican American food. Melon Margarita: I got the slushy style, so not too powerful, but delicious on a warm afternoon. Two Enchiladas Suizas: This comes with rice and refried beans. Meaty and cheesy deliciousness. I ate every bite. Chips and Salsa: They serve two kinds of salsa-one smooth and one more like a pico de gallo. We came here to celebrate my husband's birthday. Casa Lupe is on regular rotation for the family. We had a larger group, so we made reservations. We went in at 5pm to beat the dinner rush...which is what everyone else thought. There was a line of people waiting for doors to open before 5pm. We had some stragglers in our party, so we didn't get our orders right away, so the food did take some time. I might recommend coming in at 5:30PM to avoid the early dinner rush. I liked the chips and salsa - the pico de gallo and the salsa roja were both a little spicy - not too spicy, but I was expecting at least the pico de gallo to be mild. It was good though. We also ordered guacamole which the baby LOVED. The decor is definitely maximalist which the kids enjoyed. Just missing some live music. I ordered the mahi mahi tacos...which had a generous amount of fish, but it was a little bland for me. I was able to secure extra salsa just for me and added it to my tacos. The rice and beans were good and the serving size is generous especially for the Bay Area. I felt like the staff were all very friendly and welcoming. It's very family friendly, although there is a small bar where some people were enjoying their food a little bit more in peace. We absolutely loved this spot. Everything about this place hit the mark! The customer service was excellent, super friendly and attentive. The interior is super cute, Spanish style decorations, it feels like stepping into a cute soot in Mexico. The food was great. The beef was so tender and flavorful. I got the beef burrito, and my husband ordered the carnitas chimichangas along with a tamale, and everything was delicious. They put sauce on their burritos and it's delicious. For the tamale they flavor their masa and honestly it's one of the best tamale i have tried. I was genuinely impressed. They also give you chips and salsa, and it's delicious, and makes the whole food experience great. Fresh, flavorful, and hard to stop eating. Their drinks are okay, my husband got the melon margarita, and I think it was over powered with whatever simple syrup they were using, and was disappointing (I think they can do better with their drinks). Dropped in for a quick lunch and was immediately greeted and shown to our seats. The ambience was joyful and inviting with traditional Mexican colors and decor. We visited during a busy Friday lunch hour, received impeccable service and were provided with complementary chips and salsa. The chips really had no taste, but the salsa was spot on. We ordered A create your own platter, which consisted of chili relleno, tostada, and tamale. Also ordered a burrito and fiesta tostada. It was busy, full house on Friday night when we went. But last time we came sometimes during the week, it was empty (2022). Would definitely return again in the not too distant future. A few days ago, we decided to come here for dinner and I wanted to try a new dish. I ordered the Catfish Soft Tacos and it was delish and very filling! For $17.95, I ordered two grilled catfish in soft corn tortilla served with lettuce, pico de gallo, rice & whole beans. I'm not usually fond of fish tacos or picky with it in general, but this one was an exception! Not overcooked nor undercooked and it was perfectly spiced! Something to note tho, for the appetizer served (chips and salsa), I didn't find the chips to be fresh and that was a disappointment as the two types of red salsa it came with were fantastic! Everything was perfect last Friday night, the lively decorations (brick arches painted along the arches, makes you feel like you're in an outdoor seating, in a Latin Country), music and vibe of families and diners alike tell you why this restaurant is popular. This place is very cute inside mexican style ambience , alot of seating , booths for a couples night out or a party. There were many different ethnicities eating here. We ordered the mole enchiladas, side of guac, and albondigas soup!! The chips salsa and guac were bomb, spicy salsa ,the guac very creamy y tasty!!! The mole enchiladas were good , different to what we are used too more on the sweeter side than spicy , which is what we prefer, but still very good , big portion. The albondigas , definetly do not not recommend AT ALL . Got my plate dug in and tasted the broth and what a dissapointment from a mexican restraunt!! It tasted like celery and celery only !! I still didnt want too give up on this bowl so I took out ALL the celery added salt, pepper and still no flavor pop. I tried the albondigas and they were bland as bland can be nothing in those albondigas , water!! I still didnt want too give up on it and I asked for some spice. Chillie paste and cut up serrano was brought out , I added that hoping some flavor POP and that was the end , I gave up I couldnt pull no flavor out those albondigas. I sent the albondigas back and told them that they were just not good at all and had no flavor , they did apologize they took it off our tab and did ask me twice if I wanted anything else and I really wasnt craving anything other than a caldo. Customer service was great, but the food wasn't. Came here for dinner the day after Christmas waited about an hour to be seated, but it was ok because we didn't have a reservation. Casa Lupe is one of my fail-safe Mexican restaurants in the Mountain View/Sunnyvale area. In case people are confused, this restaurant is NOT to be confused with Casa Lupe in Mountain View, which is not that great and initially gave me cause to pause before I first came here. This restaurant is always on my short list when I want some tasty traditional Mexican food. Although all of their dishes are pretty tasty, their chile relleno is the star. Casa Lupe Number 2 is the only Mexican restaurant I've visited that offers chile relleno stuffed additionally with meat and my favorites are the ones stuffed with carnitas or chile verde. I almost always end up ordering that special whenever I come here. Like I've said, this place is your go-to for some tasty down-home Mexican food. I'd passed by this place so many times while coming to Safeway and contemplated going in for a meal but somehow never ever did. Well finally, on Christmas Eve, we decided to go here from work for lunch. They told me that this is one of the older restaurants in the area and that they used to frequent this place for large Mexican meals and some great drinks. I was recommended the chicken fajitas and it was a no brainer to go for it for me. The fajitas came out sizzling along with some onions, green peppers, zucchini and more. Tender, fresh chicken really well cooked/grilled. I had it with the spicy sauce on the side (that I asked for) which was great, felt freshly ground and home made for sure. The plate came with small portions of rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream and corn tortillas (you also have the choice of flour). IMO, the portions were appropriate for you to have a really good satisfying meal, and not feel over the top heavy. Some of the portions on the other plates my colleagues got were larger. The beans were not the typical refried beans but were brown beans in a small cup. Would've loved to try some of the drinks, probably for next time. I expect to be back at this Mexican diner with my friends soon. The restaurant was fairly spacious and had a Mexican home-style feel/ambience to it. It wasn't too busy that it took a long time to get seated, and it was fairly lively for dinner time. Camarón/shrimp quesadilla: loved it! Sometimes, shrimp tastes like a fish tank to me, but I took the gamble and this was one of the best shrimp quesadillas I've ever had! It's straightforward and you get exactly what you expect. No surprises-- just a tortilla with cheese and shrimp like they said :) Chimichanga: okay, so after eating the chips and salsa (which were also great) and the quesadilla, we were too full to eat the chimichanga in its entirety.... But the portion I had was alright--a little too bean-ful for my taste (especially because we have beans on the side), but it wasn't awful. Not sure if I would order it again, but I'm also not typically a person who orders this dish. Women's bathroom: one of the stall doors won't close, so I walked in on someone, but we're all girls' girls, so she helped me keep the door closed so no one after me would walk in on me. Wishing the bathroom was just a little cleaner. Ample parking in the Safeway plaza. Thought there would be something special about the dish being it was $21 + guacamole + sour cream. No crisp on the meat. No citrus juices and no flavor. Store bought tortillas. Service was OK. I have no clue in the world how they have Four stars. This is by far one of the worst tasteless non authentic Mexican restaurants I have ever gone to. The food I can't even explain how bad it was it was so bad. The ambiance was so bad the whole time all I can think about was oh no I hope there's no roaches. As soon as I begin to eat I see one just like my night couldn't get any worse. The service was really slow and just kept getting worse. Lots of parking as well! They give you fresh chips that are warm to the touch and two types of salsa. There was pico de gallo and a spicy red salsa. I am honestly shocked that this place is so popular! Pre-pandemic we tried to come a few times, and went elsewhere after being told the wait was 45+ minutes. Luckily, that doesn't seem to be the case anymore, we were seated immediately for weekend dinner. I liked that they had a large covered spacious tent outdoors. When I went to use the bathroom, the indoors smelled really funky- like a hint of porta potty and dash of smokers' house, so I'm glad we ate outside. We had the guac and chips, which was very good. Everything else was really pretty awful though, and if you see my average, it's pretty rare I have a 2 star review. The Enchiladas were really awful, the tortilla was like a mush consistently. We had a cheese and chicken enchilada. The cheese mixture was just wrong, and I am generally pretty happy with anything with cheese! I'm not sure if the cheese was rotten or just an off combination, but we couldn't even eat it. The shredded chicken was dry, while not as bad, with the mushy tortilla it was also inedible. Fish tacos were also dry. The ingredients appeared sufficient, but overall the taco lacked any good or enticing flavor. Won't ever be back. Wow, I have been coming here for over a 17 years and I have to say that everything is the same (minus the bar area, this did expand). The food quality and recipes are still on point. Marco immediately recognized me when I walked in and that was a great feeling since it's been over a year plus of me coming in. With that said, before people go crazy and say it's not real Mexican food I would like to say this, they provide excellent service and keep your chips, and drinks fully stocked so you're never waiting and wanting more. As for the food, yes, it is American but look at the demographics that surround the location. While I would love it to be spicier that doesn't meet the clientele that would visit the location. You will get consistency from this location as the food flavor and is and has been the same for over a decade. That right there makes this place great and beats their sister locations. Stop on by and enjoy great service with good food!!! Did I also mention that most of the staff is family? We arrived around 7:30pm on a Sunday night. Parking was fairly crowded which speaks to the quality of the restaurant. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. The dining room was crowded but there was a small table available immediately. The menu came right out and the drinks followed in a very timely fashion. I'm a menu junkie and their menu selections were really top notch. I'm a sucker for a good mole' and wasted no time selecting it as my dinner. The Chicken Mole' enchiladas were fantastic! The tortillas used I could swear were home made. The mole' sauce itself was delicious. Not too spicy (even though I like the heat) and just the right amount of chocolate and sugar. The pico de gallo was also very good and the chips were fresh. We went through 3 small dishes of the pico and one of the salsa rojo. My friend had the tres colores (three colors) enchiladas. They also were very good. I also got the entree Tostada to go for my adult son at home. He liked the dinner but complained it was a bit small as an entree. Quality was VERY good. Serving sizes on the tostada were the only downfall. Perhaps making two smaller tostadas as an entree may be a better portion as a main dish? I will definitely go out of my way to eat here again. I really liked the chicken enchilada California since it was recommended to me and had a ton in the plate too including grains and lots of sauce and sour cream. Checked in at 7PM a on a Friday night and the wait was about 10min even with a long line of customers waiting. They are very efficient in getting you in, served and out. The staff is very attentive and efficient. The menu was a great mix of all Mexican food and the price was fairly reasonable. We ordered the beef Nacho, beef chimichanga and chicken mole. The beef nachos were made with ground beef, I was hoping it was with whole beef or shredded ones. Keep in mind it is not your traditional pile of chips and toppings. There are about 7 large tortilla chips loaded with nacho toppings. The flavor was great but the serving and presentation was unexpected. The chicken mole was made with breast of chicken and the mole sauce was delicate and not overpowering. Beef chimichanga was made with beef cubes and was delicious.
