Nachos, pupusa, plátanos con frijoles and Oaxaca cheese and the chicken flautas!
Jacque R.

The food was delicious! I e ordered a pupusa, plátanos, flautas and nachos and we were satisfied with it all! The service was excellent welcoming and was patient when ordering. Absolutely love the ambiance, the art and choices of where we can sit. Will be going back again.

If you want homemade authentic Mexican food in Berkeley with a touch of class, Casa Latina is your go to. It's a little more expensive but the feels, the taste, and the quality is worth it. Even the traditional panderia inside the restaurant had me drooling when I ordered my Nopalitos tacos, some of the best I've ever had too and they ain't skimping and you're getting legit Oaxaca cheese! When taking a look at the menu they have some of the best traditional offerings and a very Popular Mole too! lots of yummy choices to choose from. The Ambience consists of a home feel with traditional and cozy accents that are well represented. Service was delightful from one of the main gals - they give you a number and bring your food to the table. This was my second visit and enjoyed it as well. On my way out I had to hit up the self-serve bakery with a fresh espresso for the road. Gracias!

Frida everywhere I love it

First of all ,I've been itching to try this place for quite some time ,and I'm so glad I did ! The place felt a little like I was walking into a place somewhere in Mexico . You order at the counter when you walk in , and they have a nice table set up for crema ,napkins ,and utensils . As I walked around to find a place to sit ,I was amazed at all Of the wall art of Frida Kahlo . I absolutely love Frida and loved seeing her all over inside of this place . The ambiance feels like ur at home and it's quite a large and roomy dining area that add comfort. I ordered the chilaquiles ,and by far, the best I've tasted in the bay area so far ! The people who were working there were genuinely so nice . I ll definitely be coming back to casa Latina

Enfrijoladas

I'm very disappointed with this place. It used to be one of my favorites, but the quality keeps getting worse, and this last visit was the final straw. I ordered the enfrijoladas, and to start with, the presentation was terrible, not appetizing at all. It literally looked like tortillas with a few spoonfuls of beans thrown on top. And as a Mexican, I can absolutely tell when refried beans come from a can... the flavor tasted artificial and completely lacked seasoning. On top of that, the dish was supposed to come with avocado, and it didn't even have that. My husband ordered a burrito, and it was also extremely bland, flavorless, and the portions were surprisingly small for the price. It's honestly sad to see a place that used to be worth visiting now serving food with so little care, flavor, or effort in presentation and quality. I really hope they pay attention and improve, because this place is definitely not what it used to be.

I don't know what this is, but it felt like a chocolate chip cookie, IT was so yummy!!

I fell in LOVE! I had a sweet tooth and wanted some pastries, so we pulled over at this CUTE lil spot, when I walked in I felt the warmness of this place, the lady behind the counter was the sweetest! I grabbed a couple of pastries and 2 Hot Chocolate because it was cold outside. Can I just say; EVERYTHING I placed on the platter and she packed into the bag was DELICIOUS!! Talking about it makes me want to go back, but I know if the pastries were good, we will have to circle back to try the food. The ambiance in there was CUTE! I have yet and when I say YET, I mean I have YET to walk in to a CUTE restaurant, go into the BATHROOM and fall in love with their bathroom, I mean call me silly, but go take a detour into that bathroom and you will know exactly what I'm talking about! Clean and smells GOOD! 10/10- A definite MUST try if you're in the area.

Nachos carne asada
Ss S.

Mexican food is my top 3 favorite food. It's all about the meat and how savory the meat tastes AND the salsa/sauces. So..... The carne asada and barbacoa.... Hella tastes like Mexico City street food!!! Hands down... The best most savory meats! Nachos, tacos- SMACKS!!! I'm planning my next repeated returns to try majority of their menu. They said the family is from Jalisco. Chill ambiance, clean bathroom, quick service. Oh! The margarita... I don't even like margaritas and my fam said it's bomb so I tried it and daaang they are generous with that tequila and it's tasty AF! Not too sweet at all. Chicken tamal- the masa is so moist, chicken is perfectly cooked. The sauce is a tad bit spicy & very tasty.

I found out about Casa Latina through a friend and I'm really glad I did. So far I've only tried their desserts, and wow. both the Leche Flan and the Tres Leches cake were incredible. The flan was one of the best I've ever had. It was super silky with a perfect texture and just the right amount of sweetness. The Tres Leches cake was also great--super moist with a nice touch of strawberry flavor and a few real strawberries scattered in. The cinnamon was a little strong for my taste, but it was still really good. They've got a small bakery inside with cookies, cakes, and other classic Mexican treats. I haven't tried their carrot cake yet but it's definitely on my list. The vibe inside is cozy and a little rustic, with a casual charm that makes you want to hang out for a bit. There's also a full menu with espresso drinks, breakfast, tacos, burritos, and Latin American dishes. I haven't tried the food yet but it all looks promising. Parking is street only, but it hasn't been too hard to find a spot since the area isn't super busy. Highly recommend checking this place out, especially for their desserts. I'll definitely be back to try more.

I ordered from here this past weekend bc I was too lazy to cook and my boyfriend was coming over lol I ordered the guacamole and chips and shrimp ceviche as well as the chicken Mole burrito and all of it was AMAZING. I ate the entire burrito on my own (bf doesn't like mole for some reason lol) but he devoured the ceviche and guacamole and chips ;) a must try!!!

They also have really tasty tacos, especially the pollo asada. But the real MVP is their salads. Great portions, fresh and well seasoned. Just if you're ordering pickup or delivery, don't get your hopes up. You'll likely get something different than what you ordered or have items completely missing. Would definitely recommend eating there in-person to enjoy the food you ordered.

The shrimp was fresh and sauce tasty without being too spicy. The corn tortilla was sturdy enough to withstand the moisture from the beans, veggies, and sauce so it still had a little crunch throughout! Veggies were fresh as well. The carne asada burrito was yummy and balanced with its ingredients. Tortilla was chewy but still able to encase all the ingredients. The pozole was on the salty side but I enjoyed the intense pork flavors as well as the large Mexican corn pieces! Bottles of salsa are self served and kept in the back in the fridge. The chipotle one was indeed tasty, savory and only with a hint of spice. Lots of seating indoor and outdoor; they have a while take out area as well! Staff were friendly!

I came here with a bunch of coworkers and the one visiting from Houston was elated to come here. I'm ashamed that despite being a Cal alum back in the day, I've never heard of this place. The restaurant is huge, with patio and indoor seating. You order and pay first at the counter, which also sports a full bar. Food comes out pretty quick from a hidden kitchen. Overall, very solid lunch for me, so 4 stars. Standouts: 1. I love their nachos - extra thick and very crunchy compared to most places. The chip is sturdy enough to hold all the salsa you want. The salsa also sticks very well - must be surface tension, LOL. 2. Speaking of salsa, the salsa verde with tomatillo is excellent. My coworker joked that he wanted to smuggle a few bottles in his luggage. 3. For drinks, the Horchata is excellent - rice-based drink that's bot overly sweet and has nice aromatic herb aroma. 4. My main entree was the Enchilada Mole Poblano chicken. Huge dish and they really lay on the sauce. Great flavors overall in the mole. Shredded chicken filling a wee bit on the dry side. 5. One cool feature is that they have a separate food stand next to the main restaurant for take-out orders. The prices are actually very reasonable, and I can see how the restaurant has thrived for decades. We were lucky to find street parking but I did some free parking lots a short walk away.

I even ordered too much for the table in french fries, and they were able to get them to another table and remove them from our tab. It was mostly mango, mayo, cucumber, and a little avocado, with a sprinkle of ahi. Would not order again. I know we're in a recession but don't advertise as ahi tuna when you barely get any. You can go to Yard House or BJ Brewhouse and get more Ahi for half the price. The Salmon Tacos were greasy and the salmon was dry; the salsa they put on it wasn't great and the tortilla tasted stale.
