Stayed here twice now. Very efficient and quick check in. The gentleman who seems to run every aspect of this cute hotel worked hard to make sure every need was met. Although this place is not the Hilton, you get what you pay for and I would much rather stay in this cute little hotel right outside Monticito than pay the Santa Barbara and the wantabe Santa Barbara hotel rates of the other chains. Was not happy with this place at all. Was not at all like what I saw in the pictures. There were a lot of noisy children running around the lot not being watched and a lot of dirty sketchy looking people hanging out and smoking around the property. When I got there the staff was nowhere to be found and I was waiting for a while before I tried calling which led to a personal cellphone. It was not very professional but I still tried to stick it out and give it a chance. Once inside the room I was not happy at all. It did not reflect what the pictures online did and the awful smell in the room was the straw that broke the camels back for me. The smell got worse once I closed the windows to try and drown out all the noisy screaming children that were running around outside unattended. I ended up taking a almost $500 loss on this hotel because I could not stay here and I ended up paying another $500 to stay somewhere else. I called Expedia to try and get some kind of refund since I did not stay even one of the two nights I paid for but apparently the hotel manager refused to give any type of refund back when Expedia called to try and get a refund for me. I would have been fine if they had only refunded one night as I did arrive late and it was already well into evening time, but honestly I was there not even an hour. Pretty expensive hour it was. You couldn't pay me enough to ever stay here again. Stay far away from this one. Never ever again. Update: Since I can't seem to comment back to the owners response. Don't take my word for it, check out other people's experiences and reviews. You'll find some of them are on par with what I've written. This is not a personal attack on any individual, this was just what I experienced. The petulant unprofessional responses left by the business owner on the reviews left by unhappy guests speaks volumes. I would not have been requesting a refund if the room had not smelled putrid. I picked this place based off of pictures on the internet. They make it look so nice online but once you arrive and see and smell this place in person, it gives you a completely different perspective. I left this place feeling completely nauseated from the horrible stench that permeated the room. My bag of clothing I had packed for the weekend reeked from this room when I left and I hadn't even been in the room for very long. For me to have taken a $500 loss on the room and still have to shell out another $500 last minute on a clean room someplace else should tell you something. I don't have a clue as to who this Tia person is that responded so petulantly to my review as I did not deal with her while I was at this property, so I really could not care less about what she has to say. All I can tell you is this was my experience with this place. I would have stayed if there had been no issues but there was, and nobody that was in charge at the time helped me out in this situation. All I can say is if you decide to stay here, good luck with that. Maybe they are under better management and maybe they've cleaned up their act by now as my review was left 10 months ago. The worst motel I have ever stayed in. 1. The floors were so dirty that after I walked on them in my bare feet, my feet were black. 2. There were cockroaches both on the walls, and in the bathroom. 3. There was no phone in the room to call the front desk. 4. The blinds were broken, missing sections, and they would not close so the light came in very early. 5. The beds were so uncomfortable that I actually put the mattress on the floor to try and get some support 6. I paid $99 for this disaster. This hotel needs to be closed down. Adorable spot but I really don't like taking cold showers. The room was small & cute. There was a microwave & fridge but no coffee maker. I'd stay there again for a night as long as I'm mentally prepared. Another thing, my 10 year old was too tall for the small second bed. Then there was this strange white noise all night. read more

I am surprised with the amount of positive reviews as well as the pictures of the rooms placed into the positive reviews. The customer service was great! However, the quality of the rooms were disappointing. The first room that we got smelt moldy and looked a bit unsanitary. In contrary, the second room was worse. The room's window film was cut with what seemed to be scissors, the bottom panel of the bath tub was detached, the chair had many spots on it, and finally, there was strange odors. My husband and I are so lucky we found this awesome Motel. Staff is very friendly, clean and beautiful room. Also, very close by too the beach and good places to eat. My wife and I enjoyed a great nights stay at this quaint motel in Carpinteria. Easy walk to shops, restaurants and the beach. The staff is awesome and friendly making you feel like you are at home. Completely remodeled, each room is unique and modern. Great place to spend a quite, relaxing weekend, close to home. My pictures don't do justice to the craftsmanship on the remodel especially the tile work throughout. I liked the unique pieces of refurbished and updated furniture to maintain the "historic" feel scattered throughout. Check it out. read more

CROOKS! Don't stay here. They charge your card BEFORE you even get there! Attitude completely. Long story short tries to cancel my reservation day of. I get it it's day of I'll pay the SUPPOSED CANCELATION FEE through which I booked on BOOKING.com which is supposed to be the first night(197$) which by the way is not worth it for the price! I didn't cancel reservation right away because the whole point we left was my two year old woke in the car with a 102 fever so we literally turned right around and drove back home. I requested they pardon my cancel fee of 197 for the circumstances. Long shit, I knew it but it doesn't hurt to ask right? So because I waited two days to go on booking to cancel because I was waiting for the response it was too late on the app. Keep in mind at this point I had requested a refund through booking and was told it's 197 on their app. I called and got a hold of a woman at Casa who LITERALLY TOLD ME she usually charges the WHOLE thing two or three days PRIOR to you booking. How can you legally do that you can't?! She proceeds to tell me yes we can. I call booking.com and they inform me they ARE NOT allowed to do that 1! And 2 she failed to mark me as a no show because I cancelled day of! Which means they most likely knew and said F it because they charged me the whole thing already! Booking is now in the process of getting my money back so I don't have to file legal charges. Do yourself a FAVOR the best western plus has suites with a full kitchen and it's beautiful for 250$ down the road! Pool, jacuzzi and rad gym. Do yourself a favor and stay there! read more

This is the WORST place! Do NOT stay here! Reserved 2 rooms. It was an overnight thing at a quaint cute motel. The rooms we booked were not what we got or paid for. They "UPGRADED" us to a 2 bedroom "Suite" because the front desk guy said he'd never seen the room in the picture on our itinerary!! please see the pictures below. It's what we saw in our "SUITE". We killed 2 spiders on our beds. I was itchy all night, perhaps it was bed bugs or the dust and dirt we shook off our bed! There was mold in the refrigerator, the bathroom was Dirty the toilet paper was grimy, and the rooms are NOT at all what they advertise! This made motel 6 look like a 5 star Hotel!! We just spent the last 3 nights at this place for my boyfriend's birthday. Paid $600 we checked in on Saturday everything was nice it had a jacuzzi tub and the place was very clean. The next day we spent at the beach and came back about 7pm. We noticed that the room hadn't been cleaned the bed was still unmade and no new towels were put in our room. My boyfriend went to the front desk where one of the owners was and told him that our room hadn't been cleaned. His response was to tell us that they normally don't clean the rooms when until the guests check out since it's only a few nights. That is disgusting and horrible way to treat people that are paying $200 a night. I have stayed in a shitload of hotels and have never been in one regardless if I'm being charged $200 $500 or $50 a night where they don't clean the room for you. To make things worse Sunday night the lady staying next to us banged on our door at 8:30 PM as we are watching a movie and asked us to turn it down. We decided to be nice although it wasn't loud to begin with and we turned it down. She then came back a half hour later to tell us it is still too loud and she is trying to go to sleep meanwhile she had on jeans shirt and sweater. I don't know of anyone who sleeps in that type of clothing. We told her if she had complaints take it up with the front desk and we didn't turn it down again. The next morning as we were laying in bed the owner comes walking in our room. He didn't knock just came right in. Our dog almost flew off the bed and bit him. All he could say was sorry. He was on the phone and thought that the room was vacant. How the hell do you think the room is vacant it isn't a huge place our car was parked right in front of the door and the TV was on. This makes me think that he was going into the room to see if we had anything of value. Very sketchy. I will never stay at this place. We stayed at Casa del Sol, room no. 9, for two nights. This was an experience! 1. This is the perfect place to discover Carpinteria and its locals since you want to avoid spending time in your room as much as possible. 2. The lack of airconditioning is fine since the window is open and unable to shut. 3. The shower after a day at the beach is hurtful until it feels like a hard massage - you have your own spa! 4. You'll be able to get real cozy with your partner in the queen bed due to the one sheet (!) that gets smaller by the hour. 5. You won't need to worry about your safety since the police drives by day and night during your stay. Nice staff and breakfast muffins, but due to everything else we checked out with a sigh of relief and a new appreciation for every other motel and life as a whole! read more

This place needs the board of health to come out!! First day we check in the room we notice stains, sand and hair on the bed sheets!! Along with food on floor and no toilet paper!! I tell the owner we are not comfortable with the room and would like to cancel and get our money back. He advises me no and says let me show you a cleaner room?! I guess you have to pay extra for that!? I give him the benefit of the doubt and he takes us to another room where there is at least toilet paper this time! However we still have sandy sheets with hair (not ours!!) Folks these sheets are not being changed!!! My kids want to stay and have fun! Day 2.. we have some left overs from the nice dinner we did enjoy outside the motel so we decide to pop them in the microwave.. yes here it comes folks there is someone's left over meal from McDonalds! The funky smell tells me it wasn't just from the last stay.. I mean we actually saw a mouse on the ground level! Now I know why!! The only good thing I can say about this place is the location. DON'T STAY HERE - We checked in at 3:30PM (on a Friday) with a gentleman by the name of KISH (who should not be working here after this post). My wife had booked this place on Hotels.com and she showed him her ID when we checked in. During that process, he said ok you guys are all set. We had planned to stay for 2 nights. At 11:20PM that night, KISH decided to start speaking in front of our door and I thought I was dreaming. Mind you we were sound asleep by 10PM and all lights were out. He proceeds to knock on our door at 11:30PM and we are completely startled and slow to get up. We go to the door and ask what the issue is and he says that we didn't pay. Well...Isn't that his responsibility when checking us in? My wife's response was - can we take care of this in the morning? His reply was "since you are up, I'd like to take care of that now." NO SH#! we are up now...You just knocked on the door at 11:30PM! So we provide him with a credit card and my wife and I are just floored by his actions. He comes back with the paper to sign and my wife grabs it from the small hole on the door. He then says, "If you want to escalate this, we can." By this time, I realize this guy really is an AHO&#. Heaven sake...You're in the service industry! I would NEVER recommend ANYONE to stay at this place. If Casa Del Sol keeps this employee, they really should just shut their doors. KISH should not have a job where he is customer facing...Let alone a job at all! To top it all off he said there was a place to charge my vehicle and there was a truck parked there the entire night. The only saving grace was a lady by the name of Anna that we met the next morning. We decided to cut our stay short and she was kind enough to refund the second day we were supposed to stay. If there could be zero starts that's what I would give. I booked the place through booking.com on April 20th. The stay was for May 29th. I messaged the hotel twice to see about getting another night, with no response. After calling multiple times, I got ahold of Tia. She confirmed the place was booked up for a second night and offered me a room in the Santa Barbara sister hotel. I told her go ahead and book it but I may cancel if we find a room in Carpinteria, because we took the train and only had our bikes, making it hard to switch cities mid-stay. I ended up finding a hotel who could accommodate our second night stay in Carpinteria, so I called the sister hotel and cancelled in plenty of time before the cancellation fee sets in. I got a call the evening before I was to check in from Tia, at 4:30 pm, saying she was putting us for two nights in the Santa Barbara hotel because they overbooked the Carpenteria hotel. I returned her call explaining that is not possible, we have train tickets only to Carpenteria, that the train was booked for bikes, so we had to stay. She said "well we don't have a room for you, we overbooked, the people in your room want to stay longer." I explained I booked over a month in advance and that them overbooking was not my problem, that they should have told the other people staying was not possible. She told me "I guess you've never worked in a hotel before". I proceeded to tell her I own two businesses and that is definitely not good customer service. After spending hours trying to find another hotel to accommodate our Saturday night on Friday night, the only thing I could find was Motel 6. That pretty much ruined our weekend, which was an anniversary. If they overbooked, she should have made the arrangements for us in a hotel, including the transportation, knowing we were without a vehicle! She is TERRIBLE in customer service, RUDE and did not even call to offer me ANYTHING. I do NOT recommend this place and would never give my business to them! Travelers beware!! This was one of the worst hotels (motels) I ever stayed at. When I arrived there was nobody in the office. I rang the bell twice and waited 10 min- still nobody there. I finally called the number and a guy with an accent answered and said he was coming. 10 minutes later, I see a man walk out of room 5 and walk towards the office. He looked out of it-like he had been sleeping and did not say anything like "can I help you?" "checking in?". I gave him my name and he handed me a card key and said "room 5." That's it. Nothing else. Now I am really creeped out since he just came out of the room that I am going to stay in. What was he doing in there for the 15 minutes while I was waiting in the office for someone to come to check me in? Then I went into the room and there was about 1/4 roll of toilet paper and no extra rolls anywhere. Good thing I had some in my car. There was not any mention of wi fi password, check out time, nothing. I went to get coffee on Sunday morning (after 8am) and there was none. I've been to this cheap motel twice in the past month, both times were fine. In early Nov I paid $54 for 2 people, and then on the Sat after Thanksgiving I paid $44 and my room had a hot tub in it. My rooms were clean, bed fine, TV fine, and I had no major complaints. The waffle maker wasn't working on either of my stays, but I can live without waffles, esp when I have a hot tub. AUG./2013 under NO circumstances stay here!!...you have been warned!!!!...we weren't :-( we were driving the p/c highway north towards San Fran and it was about 8 pm on a sat. night about 150 miles south of Carpinteria, we stopped at a few hotels and they were booked. this is when we began to look up hotels in the towns we were approaching and call, they were all booked! we kept calling the big chains and found the same, they even advised that all were booked up for 50 miles etc..around 9:30, in an act of desperation, we began to call all hotels, this is how we found the casa del sol, they had only 2 rooms left, the office was about to close, the room was $120 plus tax, we paid and then went in (turns out the guy at the desk took us for an extra 40 bucks according to the website). the room looked like a crime scene!, under the bed were tissues and trash, as well as remnants of what once was the box spring, the front slide windows, were slightly open! (was this for easy access?) , the windows were covered with thin see through curtains...that's it!...the door had no chain, no dead bolt, just an old , loose door knob, much like you would find on the inside of a house...that was it!..we stacked furniture in front of the door and balanced an empty drawer to fall if moved as an alarm!, the "sheet", (yes singular), on the bed were like a science experiment, complete with stains of all colors. we slept in our clothes! I wrapped the pillow with a dirty shirt so as not to touch it....the bathroom light (where it used to be) was an open hole in the ceiling, the fan still worked when the switch was turned on, but emitted a strong smell of feces when running..absolutely vile!...only one light in the room and one over the sink, there was some strange antique unit mounted to the wall to serve as heating/cooling??..yet it had no visible controls, the old tv, that was propped atop an old second hand dresser, had no on/off switch/ no remote/ etc...a stroke of luck was being able to turn it on to make it appear that we were awake during the night, so as not to be robbed, hopefully....every flat surface in our non smoking room was covered with cigarette burns and melted wax..? It was bittersweet that the police drove through the lot regularly.... Our upstairs neighbor(s) "entertained" regular "guests" at 1/2 hour intervals throughout the night, people going up and down the stairs all night long!...... so, we slept in the cold, with our cloths on, for a few hours, the dropped the key at the night drop and got the hell out of that sewer.. Of the long list of regrets I have associated with our decision to stay at the Extraordinary "casa del sol motel", there are a few positive things about this experience....I count myself lucky not to have lice or my luggage teaming with bed bugs..I paid with cash, and not a credit card...so they can't rob us anymore than they have already! read more

OK, So this is a tough one to rate. My ex and I used to visit Casa Del Sol quite frequently, we went here because of it having Jacuzzis inside the rooms. Now in most hotels, the Jacuzzis are in the bathroom, NOT HERE! Casa Del Sol has them IN THE ROOM! Most of all they are surrounded by Mirrored WALLS! Fun if you want to get naughty with your mate! You can watch T.V. While in the tub.. heheh. Everything the last poster said was close to being true but for some reason We enjoyed staying here. Its close to a lot, but still far enough away from the high traffic area of Carp. You do have to go with the right person to stay here, you will get a chuckle on the decor of the room and the front desk staff. You just have to keep an open mind. We stayed here a few times during the winter, when our in room heater broke, We asked the front desk for help.... they gave us 3 more blankets and a small portable heater! HAHAHA Good times. I will visit again someday, but I would make sure to bring extra pillows and an open mind. If you do go to Carpenteria, Be sure to visit "The Palms" Restaurant! AWESOME PLACE!!!! I loved this place. No I don't work for the motel! I just like unique experiences and seedy looking hotel rooms.I stayed here on the way back to San Diego from San Fransisco in early March. It was fantastic and worth the stay. I am going up this weekend with my boyfriend and we are going here again. The bed squeaked, the room looked dirty in an am an old motel room sort of way and not the I haven't been cleaned in years way. Paid $60 bucks and got 2 rooms and kitchen. I was very happy with my stay. The staff were nice too. If you like modern amenities, perfect places because you are a bit stuck on how things should be in a hotel. It's not the place for you. If you like cheap, interesting, some place where you can just go and have a good time with friends. This place is perfect. I can't wait to go back! To the other reviewer who said places like this should be shut down. NO WAY! I would pick a place like this over the stuffy Hilton any day. read more
