    Nicer than you would expect!
    Akemi W.

This is one of two Carpenteria Motel 6s, and this one is a little nicer. It's built in a rectangle around a pool, and those inner rooms feel like your staying at some place a bit nicer than Motel 6. Everyone talks like Motel 6 is the trashiest motel ever, but I think they're perfectly fine, and great for the price. Everything was clean and quiet, the staff was friendly, and I can bring my dog with no issues or extra fees. Plus the price is a fraction of anything else in town. I found it annoying that there's no door between the bathroom (toilet/shower) and sink area, but that's not a deal breaker for me. The only reason I didn't give five stars is that the wi-fi stopped working every evening, and I needed to use it. Very annoying. But even with that, I'd be happy to come again. Can't beat the value for the Santa Barbara area.

OK... Motel 6 is not where I would normally stay. Ever. However, the prices in the Santa Barbara are astronomical. Ridiculous. For the amount of time that we were actually planning to be in the room, I figured "why not." I'd stayed at Motel 6 once before in Arizona (and had a phenomenal experience.) The rooms are basic. Bring your own shampoo and conditioner. I forgot about that element. But the rooms are clean. Very clean. I would take a super clean room over an amenity-rich room any day. Another plus: there's actually a decent selection of TV channels. (Was able to watch stuff before bed, which was nice. Trust me -- I didn't stay hanging out in the room all day.) The cost of two nights here was about the cost of one night in Santa Barbara proper. The location of the property is phenomenal. We walked everywhere during our stay. Didn't drive at all for anything we did in Carpinteria. The manager is also extremely friendly; you can tell she has a lot of pride in the property. There is a pool on site (no hot tub). I didn't visit it, so can't comment on it. 2022: 39/100

Second attempt at checking in to my room, someone must've gotten up to go to the restroom.
    Luis G.

Booked a room today, 8/6/23 and made my way to the destination. Went to check in and the woman at the front desk was very helpful and pleasant during the check-in process. After selecting a room and floor, made my way up only to find it locked from the inside with the security latch. Laughed it off and made my way to the front desk for a new room, boy what a mistake. After making my way back upstairs and locating my room I walked in to find a complete mess. I'm shocked I didn't walk in on anybody, either sleeping or fornicating. Two attempts were all my patience could handle so I politely asked for a refund and was issued one. Very doubtful I'll ever return, to this Motel 6 or any other.

Here you see the mold Spurs that a forming in the bathroom along the wall
    Osirus S.

There is mold is the bathroom not too sure that it is safe for people to be staying here. Not too sure why they would host people here if things were like that. This needs to change for the safety of the host, cleaners, and clients who come here to work and stay

Very long black hair in the hand towel
    Mage L.

No shampoo, conditioner or body wash. No dresser. No hairdryer in the room, though you can ask for one at the front desk. No coffee maker in the room, though they have coffee in the lobby for a few hours in the morning. No extra blankets. No thermostat, so it's guesswork to try and get the right temperature. No refrigerator or microwave. Basically the bare minimum for a hotel room, and not as clean as I would have hoped. There was also a bar of used soap in the shower.

It's near the freeway, downtown Carpinteria, beachs, and a suburban shopping plaza with a grocery store ( eateries, Starbucks, fast food). Pros: + Complimentary breakfast. This was quite a spread and the egg and protein hot items rotates. Eggs one day could be a cheesy omelette patty and the next scrambled. The protein was bacon strip, pork sausage or turkey sausage patty. They had a pancake machine, very simple to use, just press a button. There were cinnamon rolls, bagels, bread slices, muffins, three cereal offerings, yogurt, and fruit (bananas, oranges). Coffee, tea, juices, milk, and even had almond milk. The women working the breakfast were amazing. Cheerful and helpful, adding to a great start to the day. They were taking care to refill hot food trays and tidying the area. + Outdoor swimming pool and hot tub. + Fitness center. + Free WiFi. + Free lending library in the lobby. + Complimentary 24/7 coffee and tea station in the lobby. Other: - They leave a printout of your receipt on the floor outside your door the early morning before checkout. I'm not a fan of this practice. Because we all know, people are noisy. I asked mine to be left at the desk. - The sole elevator is super small. Barely large enough for the bellhop cart and one person. - One of the two washing machines, in the guests laundry facility, was broken during our visit. - Not enough USB ports, for my liking, in the room. - The room's mini fridge temp was on the fritz. It froze my items even on a low setting. - Microwave was not cleaned. Still had the previous guests cheesy blob in it. Yikes.

Best Western Plus Carpinteria Inn - September Stay for a Wedding…read moreI stayed here while attending a wedding in mid-September. Pros: - Very friendly staff. - The coffee and water station was a nice touch and made up for the lack of complimentary breakfast. (I wasn't expecting much, maybe just muffins or toast, but the water and cups were especially appreciated since you can't carry much on a plane and buying it at grocery stores adds up.) - Shower head was large with good water pressure. - Beds were cozy and soft, making for a restful night's sleep. - Air conditioning was decent -- maybe a problem in peak summer, but perfectly fine for fall weather. - The courtyard was cute (even though I didn't use it). - Lobby area was small but comfortable. - Location was convenient: right off the highway, about 15 minutes to many restaurants and roughly 25 minutes' walk to the beach. - Noise wasn't an issue during my stay. Cons: - You have to ask the front desk for the Wi-Fi code. Why not just keep it in the room? I ended up using my phone hotspot instead. - No front desk staff available at night. When we returned in the evening, there was no one to ask questions (including about the Wi-Fi). - Room service is not daily -- you have to request it, and it's not always guaranteed. This feels odd, especially for a tourist/wedding town where daily service should be a given. One morning we requested service at 8 a.m., and they showed up by 9. When I asked them to come back after 10, there was no response -- a simple yes or no would have sufficed. (Maybe a language barrier, or maybe they didn't want to adjust the timing.) I let the front desk know afterward, and they did send someone, but it still felt strange. - No microwave in the room. A shared microwave by the coffee/water station would be a nice addition. Overall: Friendly staff, cozy beds, and good location made it a solid stay. I'd rate it a 3.5 if I could, but the cons bring it down to a 3.

It feels so familiar and I know for a fact, staying here is healing my inner child each time. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The suite was clean, the TV had an HDMI cable that we were able to hook our computer up to to watch Netflix, the bed was very comfy and clean, and bathroom was very clean, and the overall space was exactly what we were looking for. There are enough parking spots for all of the guests, and all of the guests were very low-key and pleasant to be around. Although all of the suites were rented out we actually barely ran into everyone and it felt as if we had the entire area to ourselves. I think one of the biggest perks on top of all these amenities is that our dog was allowed to enjoy the place just as much as we were. Maybe the couple who put it together had a falling out, maybe they're living in another country or maybe it's a COVID business casualty that never recovered, but the place feels like it's in a slow death spiral. The front desk person is there for limited hours, the "breakfast" consists of cereal dispensers and cookies/muffins which were the same in quantity and distribution over the two days we stayed (implying that they weren't getting restocked) The room was suitably prepared with cute folding of the towels but the walls had damage and anchor holes where things had been mounted in the past but their prior location was not patched. No one made up our room nor changed towels and sheets. Honestly, the place fit the bill for our stay, filling a niche between the motel 6 and the countless air B&Bs, and with a little better management and some upgrades, you have the potential to really get it right with your original vision, but it looks like it's just not the right time for the current owners. I wish them well and if there are new owners, I hope they are able to carry on with the initial vision that is evident in the decor of the lobby.
