Currently staying in this hotel renamed Vagabond. We have a baby and they have us a room right in front of the pool, cool. No worries. Around 7pm all the kids come out, and there are adults sitting at the pool being so loud watching the UFC fight through a loud speaker. The hotel should really enforce quiet hours or at least be respectful to those who are staying in the rooms right in front of the pool. Will never stay here again. read more

This place was terrible. It took literally 8 phone calls and my son going in person to make sure everything was good on their end. Besides being dirty, the check in process was long and they told me I had a balance even though I already paid. I had to pay again and now I get to fight with Expedia to get a refund. The front desk help visibly was unprepared to do their job correctly. After an hour of trying to check in, we got our room key. I will never deal with this establishment EVER again. Don't let the name put you off. This was everything we needed for a quick visit to Carp. Perfectly clean room and motel. Everything in good working order. We had two queen beds which were very comfortable. The air conditioning kept us very cool. Although the room faced the 101 freeway, we did not hear any traffic. Love that it's dog-friendly. Room had a fridge. Great location. Friendly helpful staff. No frills but who needs frills unless you plan on hanging out a lot here? Go enjoy the town and beaches and come back here to a clean and comfortable room. read more

BED BUGS!!! I should have known better. But it was late and I needed a place to stay before finishing the drive home from California. I went into the room, looked at the mattress and immediately saw bed bugs. I went back to the front desk, told her to cancel, and refund me. She said only a supervisor could do that and now the supervisor refuses to call me back. The woman at the front desk also ADMITTED that she knew they had bed bugs. Luckily I was in the room for all of 5 minutes but now trying to get refunded and they refuse to answer. I've escalated to corporate and booking.com for help. read more

THESE ARE THE SAME OWNERS OF THE 4200 VIA REAL LOCATION IN CARPINTERIA, CA. ZERO STARS!! This has been the worst experience ever! The franchise owner Jagesh Patel and his staff should be ashamed of themselves. The "manager" Luz has no idea what customer services is, along with the so-called "assistant manager" Christina. I made a reservation for my daughter at the Vagabond Inn North location (previously Motel 5 North), using Hotels.com, for the first week of June. My daughter was going to be arriving later than expected so I called the motel property to let them she was running late but she would definitely be there to check in. I spoke with James, who could not find my reservation using my name or reservation number. James advised me to just make a new reservation through him since he had rooms available. I explained to James I was not comfortable with that since I already gave Hotels.com my card information. He's response was "Just dispute it." I ended up contacting Hotels.com who was able to fix the reservation issues and my daughter was able to check in upon arrival. My daughter was going to be back the following week for a second week stay. In an effort to avoid a repeat of the first week, I had my daughter go to the front desk to confirm the next week's reservation before checking out for the weekend. Surprise Surprise . . . James at the front desk was unable to find our reservation. He talked my daughter into making a new reservation, so she did and she prepaid for the upcoming week. She let me know, so I logged back into Hotels.com and cancelled the reservation for the same week along with a weekend stay we had reserved. At this point I am just not comfortable with how they are operating. I was within my free cancellation period, so I figured there shouldn't be any issues. Then, Vagabond Inn (Tumm Hospitality) charged my card $114 and $487 for the two reservations that had been cancelled. I find it extremely odd they couldn't find my reservation but had my card information to charge me for a cancelled stay. There is definitely something shading going on here. I have been working with Hotels.com and have attempted to get in touch with the manager Luz, who is too busy for phone call or email response. I also asked the "assistant manager" Christina for a corporate number she refused to give any information stating it was private information and if I wanted it I would need to research that information for myself. I did however find a corporate contact. Jasgeshbhai T. Patel out of Bakersfield, CA (661) 900-7017. I confirmed Jasgesh is affiliated with the Vagabond Inn at 4200 Via Real in Carpinteria. First time at a Motel 6 and was pleasantly surprised. They have two locations in Carp -- this is the SOUTH one - -not far from the main streets and beaches (although not really walkable for most people). It was about $215 for a recent Saturday night and the room was clean and just big enough for two adults and a dog. (Dog friendly hotels in the area are not easy to find). No frills -- but there was a fridge in the room and the A/C worked very well. Although our room was facing the 101 Freeway, you couldn't hear the traffic when the door was closed. They have a decent sized pool in the middle courtyard but we didn't use it. Free coffee at the front desk area in the morning but bring your own milk as they just have powdered creamer. My group had to book a last-minute room for two nights due to the limited space, but they had only booked us for one night. The woman at the desk was short, curt, and seemed distracted. It was a miscommunication between us and the check-in staff that could have been avoided had they paid attention when we specified we needed a room for two nights. This is one of two Carpenteria Motel 6s, and this one is a little nicer. It's built in a rectangle around a pool, and those inner rooms feel like your staying at some place a bit nicer than Motel 6. Everyone talks like Motel 6 is the trashiest motel ever, but I think they're perfectly fine, and great for the price. Everything was clean and quiet, the staff was friendly, and I can bring my dog with no issues or extra fees. Plus the price is a fraction of anything else in town. I found it annoying that there's no door between the bathroom (toilet/shower) and sink area, but that's not a deal breaker for me. The only reason I didn't give five stars is that the wi-fi stopped working every evening, and I needed to use it. Very annoying. But even with that, I'd be happy to come again. Can't beat the value for the Santa Barbara area. read more

Worst experience ever! This place is terrible, I booked back in December of 2025 for this past Friday the 19th. I arrived after driving 8 hours with my family to find the hotel had changed names and they told me they didn't have my reservation as when they changed names they didn't keep the booking information. I told the front desk lady that I had booked almost 6 months ago and no one from motel 6, vagabond or booking ever contacted me to notify if any issues. I was receiving my booking reminders up until check in when the front desk basically told me to kick rocks as they are fully booked and she can't help me. She even said they expected people to call to confirm their bookings so they could inform them which I have never had to call prior to my stay to confirm a booking that was already confirmed. Super annoying to get here and get zero help. Ended up booking at the best western in town and they were super friendly and accommodating getting us a nice room with a view and balcony. This place should get zero stars for how they handled this whole transition. Don't stay at vagabond motel 6 or whatever they go by. You will regret it read more

OK... Motel 6 is not where I would normally stay. Ever. However, the prices in the Santa Barbara are astronomical. Ridiculous. For the amount of time that we were actually planning to be in the room, I figured "why not." I'd stayed at Motel 6 once before in Arizona (and had a phenomenal experience.) The rooms are basic. Bring your own shampoo and conditioner. I forgot about that element. But the rooms are clean. Very clean. I would take a super clean room over an amenity-rich room any day. Another plus: there's actually a decent selection of TV channels. (Was able to watch stuff before bed, which was nice. Trust me -- I didn't stay hanging out in the room all day.) The cost of two nights here was about the cost of one night in Santa Barbara proper. The location of the property is phenomenal. We walked everywhere during our stay. Didn't drive at all for anything we did in Carpinteria. The manager is also extremely friendly; you can tell she has a lot of pride in the property. There is a pool on site (no hot tub). After selecting a room and floor, made my way up only to find it locked from the inside with the security latch. Laughed it off and made my way to the front desk for a new room, boy what a mistake. I've stayed at many Motel 6s and this Motel 6 (South) in Carpinteria is by far the best. It has a large, well lit parking area and several large and well maintained areas for pottying dogs. The room was large and clean and updated with great a/c that you can adjust easily.. a huge plus! The location is nice and there is a lovely park with a large dog park about a mile up the road. There is hot coffee in the lobby every morning to start your day. There is a grocery store complex and some nice restaurants within walking distance. We ate at Ruby's Mexican restaurant up the street and the food was delicious! The front desk staff were welcoming and friendly and our room was tidied daily. As a budget motel this one shines! read more

Okay it's not a 5 star hotel but this location motel 6 did earn the 5 stars. Clean rooms, safe parking, nice location, very helpful staff. I stay here at least once a year sometimes up to 3x per year and have always had a great experience. One time we did have a noise issue but the staff quickly assigned us a new room. Coffee in the lobby too. Carpinteria is a gem of a town on the CA coast with great beaches parks and shops all around with a hometown feel and they like to keep it that way. Starbucks, IHOP, and McDonald's very close by for those who are curious and many other dining options a little farther away. Very friendly safe town that's great for couples, families or even business travelers. You can save a little money staying in this town over the pricier real estate of Santa Barbara. Driving up to Santa Barbara only takes maybe 20 min on freeway. You will like Carpinteria such a nice town you may skip half your trip to Santa Barbara or just stay here in town. read more

It's a Motel 6, what can you realistically expect? We've all sworn them off at one point or another in our lives saying we'll never stay at one again. This time was no different. Pros: Decent rate, good location relative to Santa Barbara and Ventura, refrigerator and microwave in room (if you pay a little extra). Cons: THIN walls in rooms allowing you to hear screaming kids and very loud showers running, office staff had bad attitude (lady that checked us in barely said 5 words to us while checking in, guy that I spoke with in the office regarding the screaming kids at 5:30AM was sarcastic on the phone when asked to call the room next door to quiet down), damp musty smell in the room, one of the beds in double room was smashed right up against the air conditioner unit, police activity across the street in run down looking apartments. Did I mention the screaming kids at 5:30 in the morning? They continued to scream until about 8AM. Yay - just what you're looking for when traveling and have a long drive ahead of you the next day. Bottom line: It's a Motel 6 and you get what you pay for even in "nicer" areas. read more

This place averaged 2.3 stars. That's definitely generous. I know it's Motel 6 so expectations should be tempered, but it just wasn't clean. And we were paying a premium since we were in town for a lacrosse tournament. If we had been paying a sub $100 rate, I would be more generous with the review, but we were being charged almost 3x that amount. A used band aid on the night stand, dust in the cubby holes where our towels were, essentially any space above 4 feet tall had a thick layer of dust on it. The shower had two used bars of soap left on it and mold/mildew running above the the stall. The bed was fine. The TV needed to be rebooted twice as the signal was "unavailable". Finally the walls were paper thin, so our upstairs neighbors decided to do jumping jacks or mosh pit dancing for about a half an hour around 2 am. read more

We did not have a good experience. We arrived at 2:00 pm and asked if our room was ready just in case it was. They told us to come back at 3:00 pm and it will be ready. We came back at 3:00 pm and they checked us in and our room was not cleaned at all. All the trash from previous customers were still there and the bed sheets were not changed. We asked for another room. The same thing happened two more times.They were all not cleaned at all. This was very frustrating. It took another hour to finally get our room and we were already late to our event. We finally got a room and the room we got kept leaking water from the toilet and in the bedroom from the flooring. That was a slipping hazard. Never staying here again. Front desk lady was also rude to us. read more

Had to attend a memorial service in Santa Barbara... arrived early and was greeted very warmly by the front desk attendant, I think her name is Liz. She was kind and accommodating without hesitation and checked with housekeeping to see if a room was available for us to check in early, and yes, there was one so she checked us in. We were staying for one night and traveling with our dog. The room was super clean and fresh, enough towels for the stay, a mini fridge, a great TV, a little corner banquette and table, clean bathroom, hard floors throughout the unit and a comfy bed and nice pillows. In the morning I realized no hair dryer, I called the front desk and they had one for me to use... easy. Loved that there was a clean laundry room that I didn't have to use, good vending machines for snacks, lots of parking, lots of security cameras, free coffee in the lobby in the morning, and a huge grass area to walk the dog and provided supplies for pick up and disposal of doggie business. Super close to all, a block away from Starbucks and other little food places, minutes to the beach and DT Carp... we would without hesitation stay here again. read more

An environmental disaster ruined our family plans to go camping at El Capitan and I had to scramble to get a room near Santa Barbara. The late change of plans happened during UCSB's graduation ceremonies when the town was booked solid and I checked into a ghetto room at Motel 6. Motel 6 took full advantage of my family and jacked their rates up to over $200 a night. I will attempt to describe the squalor and experience at for you, there are so many red flags that it was comical. I did not expect much, but never in my wildest dreams would I anticipate this abhorrition of a motel could exist in a first world country. First of all, it is filthy. Paint is literally peeling off of the exterior of the building and the walkways have never been cleaned. We had two rooms in the interior on the second floor and getting to them was the first challenge. The only access is via one of the 4 stairways on the corners of the buildings. You have to take the longest possible route to get to there on walkways that are slanted downwards. There are no elevators. If an earthquake or fire struck I would be dead. I moved my car away from the closest stairwell into a visible location because I feared that my car would be stolen or vandalized. I was scared. Very scared actually especially when my brother said that he wished that he had been packing. One can imagine a hotel clientele of toothless tweekers and fringe beings of all types. I felt like I was in the middle of the climax of a drug deal gone bad in a B movie. I would like to believe that the sheets that I slept on were clean, but I know that the sink was not. There was a random pube in it and forget about the little bottles of shampoo and conditioner that you might expect in a $200+ room. Don't bother to ask for early check in or late check out, you will not want to extend your stay! I was so happy to check out on my trusty Yelp app that I now have the dubious honor of being the damn Dutchess of this hotel nightmare. I can only hope some other sucker checks in more than 2 times and steals my title. I am certain that I would have been cleaner if I had been camping out instead of staying in this dreadful hotel. read more

Only for where you live - but remember, YOU'RE IN CARPINTERIA. Holiday Inn next door is $75 more a night!!! Beat Western is over $100 more a night. You get what you pay for. I'm frugal so I wanted inexpensive. Room is simple and boring. (My room didn't look anything like the photos on the site but it was ok.). The beds, sheets, floors, bathroom, parking lot were all clean. We didn't have an issue with noise on a Saturday night in the summer. $235 for one night in motel 6 is just ridiculous. Yes it is the best price around Jul 4th weekend I could get compared to other properties around but still. The location was perfect for me as I was coming back from Solvang and needed a place to stay for one night before heading to Ojai the next day. Very easily accessible from the highway. The rooms are certainly renovated and looks clean, but it looks very cramped for the cost to be honest. The two queen bed rooms are really small and barely has any space to keep your luggage etc. All the rooms are facing the swimming pool. There is absolutely no sound proof, you can hear everything around you. You cannot get a good sleep as you constantly hear people moving on the floor above you. The restrooms are of decent size. The towels are Ok. The front desk manager was very helpful when requested for extra towels etc. The Wi-Fi was surprisingly good. Many shops are close by including a Starbucks at walkable distance. read more

I highly recommend Motel 6 carpenteria south if you're looking for somewhere to stay near Santa Barbara. You won't find a place at these rates. They have room options with a microwave & mini fridge [a real fridge not one of those lame mini coolers] just ask to make sure because the rates are different for those rooms. I was able to go through United airlines & Southwest Airlines to book my stay here 2 different weeks for 2 different weddings using my airline miles. This hotel has 2 stories & no elevator so keep that in mind when packing. I brought a bag I could put on my shoulders instead of the typical suitcase because I didn't want to stay on the 1st floor since higher floors are always safer. I had a room facing the pool & it was super quiet. I never heard anything until the housekeeper cart went by. It's pet friendly & there's lots of grass for little walks. There's washer & dryers on site. If you need a late checkin just make sure to do so before 4am. I drove from l.a. so I could bring whatever so if you're not driving the only thing I'd say is you might want to grab a blanket from target or something because the layer that goes on top of the sheets is thin. Lastly, there's a AC unit you can control by the window but the fan will blow on the curtains so I recommend using two of the hangers that have the clips on them and that holds the curtains down from blowing. Should that bother you at all. There's tons of parking. I really really appreciate Jason & Luz assisting me with my stay. They went above & beyond & I feel so grateful for their incredible hospitality. read more

Room was dirty. Sticky spill on the floor and when I wiped it up with a washcloth, it was clear the floor was filthy. Moved the cloth around with my foot just to see how bad it was and it was BAD. No bedspread. Just the sheet-blanket-sheet sandwich. I wasn't cold, but it was the definition of bare bones. Bed was comfy. Noise was normal. If you just need a place to sleep... this is fine. For the money, this place is nothing fancy but a great value in this area during the high summer season (I paid $132/nt after taxes). We stayed here 5 nights and the room was clean and comfortable and the service was attentive. The hotel is walkable to restaurants and the Downtown District. Beach is about 1 mile away. The AC was a little funky - too hot with it off and too cold with it on, but a couple of extra blankets from housekeeping took care of that problem. Overall, worked out well for us. read more

I wasn't expecting much of this place because it was a motel. This place was a lot nicer than I expected. It seemed pretty up to date and the place was overall clean other than a few items. This place was really nothing special. If you're just looking for a clean place to sleep then this is definitely the place to go. This place is definitely better than your average nasty motel. Also a quick note: the bathroom doors do not have locks. Also, our key card didn't work so we had to switch it out. We stayed Mother's Day weekend and it was easy to check in. The room we got was on the first floor. Basic two beds no amenities other than the soap for hands. It came with a fridge and microwave which was nice. It had a table and bench which was nice with two toddlers they were very entertained with that area. There was no iron in the room. The location was great close enough to everything including the beach and the deal Sanctuary. We drove everywhere because we have two toddlers but it's walking distance for the most part.
