This is an open letter to Tia and Dario or whomever still owns the place. It's a lovely little property, and it is evident that someone poured their soul into refurbishing what was likely a roadside motel from the 50s. The tilework is beautiful, the fountain used to be beautiful, the outdoor spaces used to be cozy. Just standing in the lobby, looking at the bookshelves, drag racing model and old victrola, gives a glimpse of the owner's personality 10 years ago, but now there's a feeling of neglect and waiting for someone else to take over. Maybe the couple who put it together had a falling out, maybe they're living in another country or maybe it's a COVID business casualty that never recovered, but the place feels like it's in a slow death spiral. The front desk person is there for limited hours, the "breakfast" consists of cereal dispensers and cookies/muffins which were the same in quantity and distribution over the two days we stayed (implying that they weren't getting restocked) The room was suitably prepared with cute folding of the towels but the walls had damage and anchor holes where things had been mounted in the past but their prior location was not patched. No one made up our room nor changed towels and sheets. Honestly, the place fit the bill for our stay, filling a niche between the motel 6 and the countless air B&Bs, and with a little better management and some upgrades, you have the potential to really get it right with your original vision, but it looks like it's just not the right time for the current owners. I wish them well and if there are new owners, I hope they are able to carry on with the initial vision that is evident in the decor of the lobby. read more

The people here are so sweet and welcoming, the rooms are clean, the place had beautiful touches of all over, from the bed frames to the tile on the ground. We easily found someone cleaning up the rooms in the morning and asked for extras of what we needed and when we arrived we did not see someone at the front desk, but they were just around the corner walking around so just a little patience with that. My husband and I stayed at the Inn on 7/19 just for the night to sleep. We had been traveling home from the airport after a long day of travel, and my husband unfortunately experiences terrible migraines so we pulled off here. The clerk (a male) was friendly, and offered me a quote of $250 when I asked the rate for the night. I thanked him and went to leave, and he said "Wait, wait, I'm not done. I don't actually expect you to want to pay that" Then offering $200, I said thank you again and tried to leave once more, then he repeated the "wait" before offering $148. After a very early morning and horrible afternoon, and his helpful demeanor, I accepted. I paid the amount on the card reader. He asked for a copy of my ID which I found odd and declined. He said that was fine. He didn't charge me for incidentals. He seemed kind and accommodating, understanding our situation. The room did the trick for the night because all we needed was to sleep. It wasn't the cleanliest of accommodations; red nail polish and scrapes on the wall, but it was a nice space with a large bed and that's all we needed. We checked out the next morning about 7:30am. The clerk wrote a note on the door that they were out, so we left key cards in the basket attached to the door as I noticed others had done. Now I see an additional pending charge of $150 that I did not authorize, and I'm unable to get into contact with the front desk. I've left a voicemail and an email, but I feel a hotel business should answer the phone instead of sending customers straight to voicemail. I sincerely hope and expect this charge to be removed from my pending charges, as I again did not authorize this, and also hope to hear back from someone as it's a concerning matter for a customer, especially seeing that others have experienced fraudulent or unauthorized charges after their stay. It's a lovely location in Carp with good bones. I hope that they can improve upon their customer communications. At this point I wish I would've not been drawn back in to the reduced price, and gone across to the Holiday Inn as I was intending. read more

This hotel is horrendous. Was supposed to stay 2 nights. Walked in and the room was dirty, stained, missing cabinet doors. The morning after our first night the toilet backed up into both bathtubs. I let the hotel staff know and they did nothing to help the situation. They said the person who deals with these issues had the day off. We then checked out. Butterflies, hummingbirds, bubblebaths. This is just a lovely place that has all you need. The room was small, but luxurious with shower & bath. Staff were sweet. You're mileage may vary, but this place was exactly what I needed for a quick stopover in Carpinteria. I booked one night and Google told me my rate was half off. At $80 for one night, including fees and taxes, my review is highly biased towards liking this motel. At $130+, I might have second thoughts... Two people reported checking into rooms where guests were already staying, both claiming laptops were sitting out in the open, which seems unbelievable (read: flat out lies!). The front desk was professional and my room was ready and waiting when I arrived. My room was small, but clean. The walls are thin, so I could hear my neighbors, and the room needs some repainting, but the bathroom was recently remodeled. For a small room, it had Wi-Fi, a tv, microwave, and refrigerator, but no coffee maker. Coffee and breakfast are served at 730a, which I didn't get a chance to try or review. Overall, I had a pleasant night with the white noise of cars driving on the 101 lulling my to sleep. I have only two complaints: (1) I hate the motion-sensor Lutron light switch in the bathroom. If you share the room with others, and need a midnight bathroom break, expect to wake everyone up when the light turns on, automatically, as you enter the bathroom and before you can close the door. Thankfully, this trip I was solo. (2) My other complaint would be the inability of the curtains to block out light pollution from car headlights entering the motel parking lot. You get what your pay for! To end on a high note, has anyone mentioned the motel has one level 2 EV charger in front, free for guests?!?! This was the icing on the cake for me and saved me from having to sit at a local charger before the next leg of my drive. Win!!! At this price, I would 100% return. If the room was full price, I'd likely consider other options, including the Motel 6 across the street. For what I paid, this place was a steal! read more

I will never stay here again! It is a cute motel in a decent location but poorly managed, and the bathroom smelled like sewage. Breakfast was on par for a cheap motel. We booked two nights with our dog. Tropical Storm Hilary was arriving, and we got two phone Emergency Alerts from the National Weather Service to stay off the roads. I called the Casa del Sol repeatedly and was never able to reach anyone. I could not even reach the answering machine. After the 6th call, I talked to someone who said they would postpone our two-night stay. I got a confirmation email for the revised reservation without any date changes. I called again and reached someone on the 5th call. I was now told they would not refund my first night or move our reservation, so we paid for two nights and only stayed one. The front desk lady was amiable and an employee who could not make changes or explain anything. She had difficulty taking off the $25/night pet fee for the night we did not stay. She eventually took this first-night pet fee off our bill. I regret the terrible experience because I wanted to like this place. Motels pay for services like booking.com, kayak.com, or Expedia.com. It seems wrong that they told me if you wish to bring your dog, that you must book directly. read more

It's too bad -- this could be an OK place, but there's something really weird going on: if you book and pre-pay the whole thing through Expedia, these guys hit you with an unauthorized charge on your credit card after you leave. In my case it was $30, and reading reviews, it looks like that's the standard amount they try to gouge people for -- but my credit card company said they *tried* an unauthorized charge for $150 before canceling that and doing the $30 unauthorized charge. I canceled my credit card and got it reissued with a new number and, after several phone calls to the credit card company (the motel itself never answers the phone), got the fraudulent charge removed. But all of this was a lot of work. In case anyone was wondering, there is no mini-bar that I could've used, I didn't use the phone, etc. Read other reviews here: they routinely hit people with an unexpected, unauthorized $30 charge for nothing at all. People who manage to get a hold of the front desk (not easy to do) get a cock-and-bull story about how Expedia didn't charge the full price. Nonsense. With quarantine, work and school I needed a "vacation" to recharge and refocus. I was looking for an affordable hotel not far from Santa Barbara, & found this gem! Looking through their rooms I saw they had a jetted bath tub & boomed boomed right away. When I called about check in the man who answered was polite and helpful. When I went at 3pm to check in there wasn't anyone in the lobby so I called the number posted & the same man I had spoken with answered and came quickly to check me in. I was able to explore the cool things inside the lobby while I waited. My room was clean and quaint, the bath tub looked exactly as the photos online. They offered more than enough towels for my stay and the parking spot in front of my room was such a perk. If I need another get away I will most certainly be returning to this cute little spot. read more

I stayed here 2/2025 Dont bother! They overcharged me and tried to blame it on Expedia. When I tried to talk with Tia about the price difference she became rude and irritated. Apparently she has done this before, because she says they normally charge 17 dollars. Tia started talking about her problems with a flight she booked and missed, and didn't get her money back. No matter what I said, her attitude was "too bad, take it up with Expedia", She says expedia doesn't charge enough. And proceeded telling me everyone has problems with 3rd party bookings. When I asked about her "correct fees" she wanted my email to send it, however it was a mute point since I booked through expedia and not directly. She then said the phone call was taking too long and hung up. She was unwilling to refund or apologize or have any common decency. When expedia did a follow up call, Tia was just as rude to him, and hung up on him as well. Unprofessional, Rude and no courtesy for her customer. Really? And you want a review? The room was freezing, and no way to adjust it. I slept in my sweats, shirt, robe and socks! There is no coffee pot and the photos look cuter than reality. The jetted spa is 2 feet away from the bed. I'm surprised by the other reviews. I only received kindness the whole time I interacted with staff. I did arrive about 10mins early. I was politely asked to wait while he assisted others until my check in time. After waiting, he called me up and gave me all the info about my room and about the hotel. The hotel area was beautiful and well cared for. WiFi was a bit spotty but I didn't need it necessarily. My room was lovely! Nice and spacious and beautifully decorated. I even sent pictures to my family in other states and informed them of the lovely location and suggested a family trip and staying here. I enjoyed a lovely bath in the jetted tub and got good sleep (a hotel bed is a hotel bed). It's a lovely small town and this was close to everything. I could walk to the grocery store or drive. Beaches close by, food joints, etc. I do have to say, respect goes both ways. Don't expect others to be kind when you are not. This place is not a hotel or an inn. It is a rundown motel with very bad service. I had the displeasure of booking this place through booking.com. When my wife and I arrived, we could not find anyone at the front desk, so we called the main phone number, and the person managing the place answered. We told him that we were there to check-in. After waiting a while, he came walking out of the room he gave us to stay in. It was 7 pm at night. Not sure why he was hanging out in there. He gave us the key and we went to the room. We booked what they called a "Romantic Queen Spa" room. It was a dirty, beat-up room and it was very cold in there. I turned on the heater, let it run for 15 minutes, but no heat. So I went to the front desk office to speak with the manager. He was not there so I called the main number again and he answered. I let him know the heater was not working and that we would need to change the room. He began to argue with me about it. Which was weird. I asked him to come to the office so we could talk about it. He refused to meet in person and said I was lying about the heat. I said, "If that's your way of handling this, we are leaving and want a refund". He said good luck getting a refund. I told him I was leaving and left the key on the desk. The credit card company was helpful in processing the refund. Booking.com was not helpful. Do not stay at this place and stay away from using Booking.com. read more

the outside is adorable and nicely remodeled, the rooms are clean inside. It's FINE for a few nights and surprisingly quiet given the location. Maybe not in summer though as the AC kept going on & off all night, I suspect the attic/roof/wall insulation is poor because literally the cold air couldn't stay inside the room. Also lobby is cluttered with all kinds of random stuff (like somebody is moving - boxes, etc) and the service was sweet but inconsistent (felt like they had multiple duties so were roaming around the property). We were looking for a hotel room with jacuzzi and came across Casa Del Sol.  It's a great find.  Room 11, king jacuzzi room was perfect.  Large room, oven toaster, fridge, microwave... lots of upgrades.  Park right in front of your room.  Free bike rental, cruise to cute town and beach.  Ride bike along the pass with sea breeze. Picked up a dinner from nearby restaurant and had dinner outside patio by the lobby.  They have cute patios.   Manager, Keith was very helpful.  We decided to book one more night.  King room was not available, but we could get a Queen room with jacuzzi.  Room 1, corner room, direct access to the patio.  Room was smaller than the king room, but It's like a room with own patio and we loved it. We met the owner, Dario and Tia.  Very nice people.  Casa Del Sol was fully booked for the weekend, we booked a hotel in Ojai owned by Dario and Tia.  They gave us some recommendations and tips, they even call the hotel before we arrived.   They worked a lot on the properties with good taste.  We will be back soon. read more

They posted all the nicest angles and they do not post the ones that are on the ground floor. The room we were given had a different hardware on the doorknob on the front door, and you can't lock the top deadbolt (it's very Mickymoused). The inside is very sad, I was sad because I thought it was going to look much better than that. It reminded me of a hotel you stay at as a last resort. The tiles on the floor were nice. It smelled musty. The patio was behind a door with a deadbolt. The patio was very small and had a chair with a table and very high thick walls. Looks like an area where if you are a smoker you would go outside to smoke and that's all. It's not nice, very plain, much like the hotel itself. The wifi was very spotty even though it said there was a strong signal, it wasn't, we couldn't get a reasonable connection and the small TV on the wall kept losing signal. We had planned this vacation a couple of months in advance and I thought we found a nice place. We didn't stay. We checked out a couple hours after checking in, that's how bad it was. So we were headed down from the Pismo Beach area and we were looking for a place that wasn't super expensive, but not a dump or dirty either. Anyways, we stumbled on to this place and yes it's a little different with an eclectic vibe, but it's a clean place, friendly desk help, the sheets clean/white, bath towels were fluffy/soft. Music softly playing over a speaker gently strumming in the foyer area during the day...drowns out city noise and it's soothing. Morning espresso, coffee, danishes, fruit and oatmeal available. For the price, location, cleanliness and character...we give it an "A" We would stay again. Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but overall clean and fair pricing while traveling the coast in CA ENJOY and remember it's not home...it's an inexpensive hotel room. RightOn read more

ZERO STARS!! Had to give one star to post this review! We stayed at the end of 2020 in room 20 and had a nice few days with the family. There was a bad odor when we turned on the ac! It was a MOLD! My daughter fixed it by removing the screen & rinsing the greenish black gross growth off with the hose! Smell was gone! Otherwise the room was clean. The owner? Manager? Clerk? Maintenance guy? Gave us a good rate, seemed nice & was helpful, although it took a long time to get checked in. I felt comfortable enough with the previous visit with my family that I brought my bf & our dogs to stay for one night. We arrived at about 4:15 pm on 02/14/2021 & no one was in the office. So I said Hello? No answer. A minute later, Hello? No answer. I walked around the tiny lobby for a few moments... Hello, is anybody here? I heard someone yell "Shut the F@&$ up! My jaw dropped! I asked the voice, "Are you talkin to me?" The maintenance guy/Mgr/? pulled up in a golf cart outside. He yelled into the lobby, "Are you ill? Are you sick? Do you need me to call an ambulance?" I replied to him, "Did you just tell me to Shut the F@&$ up?" He said, "Maybe, Are you drunk?" I looked at him in disbelief... I even asked him if he was the same guy I met last time. He replied, "You know me!" I was astounded & turned to leave because of his crass attitude. He told me, "Yes! Get the F@&$ Out!" How were we rude when we were the ones being told that our rooms will be broken into during the middle of the night and he will sleep with my sister? Was it rude that we quietly asked for a refund because of how uncomfortable his comments made all of us? Was it rude of me to point out that what he said was extremely inappropriate and completely unprofessional? NO. These are things that should NEVER be said to customers and that YOU, as an owner, should not defend. You could have taken this opportunity to apologize for your employee's creepy behavior and reassure future customers that it won't happen again, but your penchant for responding to valid complaints by defending employee misconduct and attacking your own customers says more about your business than you realize. You must have video recordings of the interaction that occurred that night for security purposes, correct? Then please review it and you will clearly see for yourself that we were not rude. In fact, please go ahead and upload it onto Yelp so everyone else can see that no violence, threats, raising of voices, aggressive body language, or any kind of rude behavior was done. Don't have audio recording to accompany your video footage? Don't worry, Tia - I was smart enough to record the interaction on my phone. And since you didn't believe my story the first time, I went ahead and sent the audio file directly to the BBB while filing a formal complaint against your business. The motel is very old and outdated. If you have a situation, the so-called manager, "Tia" is very rude, uneducated, and unprofessional. It took me so many calls and text messages to get in touch with her. She never answered the phone, and only when I alerted her that I would leave a negative review regarding her motel, did she answer my text messages. She claims she doesn't speak Spanish, but it doesn't seem like she knows any English either.
