ROACHES!!!! I woke up at 1 am to a COCKROACH running across my pillow. The night staff Reuben told me "that's nature" and was extremely dismissive, told me he couldn't find a new room or refund me. It's actually a significant health hazard and they can spread! When I showed him the picture of the roach in the room he tried to GRAB my phone. Then he said "It looks like it might be an animal or something." I had to walk at 1am to the motel 6 down the street (Which was sooooo much nicer!!!) The manager never called me back and it's been weeks, I'm pretty sure they blocked my phone number. Luckily I booked through a third party who was able to give me a refund because I'm sure if I booked directly through the hotel they wouldn't have given me a refund. The staff was incredibly rude. The best and least expensive place to stay within 30 miles or more. We were lucky to find this place open with a room available at 2am, while driving pass this area we were searching for a place to sleep shower and dash! This spot was hundreds cheaper than most around. As a math enthusiast and humbled human I found this place perfect for me and my family. I highly recommend saving the money to take in the area sites. Started off a little rough, booked the room online. When I arrived to pay the clerk tried not to accept m y credit card because it didn't have numbers on it. Apple Card...once I explained that's an intentional security measure so the numbers cannot be scanned or copied. After a little back and forth and the clerk getting a little rude, he did what every other hotel does and slid the card and moved forward. There were a couple of parking spots in the back but they were super tight so I parked in front of another car by the entrance. It was not marked as no parking it did not impede other cars coming in or going out and again there was a car parked right behind me already. Walking to my room same clerk comes out and tells me I can't park there. I ask why pointing at the car parked similarly right behind me...again we go back and forth. Instead of getting vocal I squeeze my car in a spot that I am sure was too close for both cars I parked in between. Room was quant. However very loud as it sat right near the freeway maybe 70 yards away. Would not recommend for various reasons. read more

This is my exception after speaking to the manager Ivy regarding my families stay at this motel. She's unprofessional, she's rude, she takes no accountability for the state of this motel and I hope the owner reads this as their motel actually has a lot of potential and would do better with a different manager... Let's start with we arrived in Carpinteria on Saturday and called the motel at 3:40 pm (check in policy is 4 pm) asking if rooms were ready. We were told they were not so we just hung around town for another 20 minutes. Arrived at motel a few minutes after 4 and officially checked in according to receipt at 4:18 pm. We had 3 rooms booked. ALL 3 rooms were still being cleaned. 2 became available by 4:45 so then we were waiting for one more.. went to desk, got another room yeah that room wasn't clean so then had to get another room but downsized to queen bed versus king because the king wouldn't be clean until after 5. Fine let me just get in my room already. There is a $100 security deposit in case you leave a stain. WHAT does that even mean? LOL. Please see picture below because I'd like to know if they will pay me back for my stains as I came with a brand new pair of socks and after walking on the floor of room my socks were done! Room has no dresser or place to put clothes so had to use luggage rack and just keep items in bag. Really not a big deal to me. Overall room has potential. Bathroom floor was beyond gross. No pool or jacuzzi as under construction. As we left I wanted to speak to manager about just getting refund for the difference of rate from king size to queen size room. Full disclosure, my son and future daughter in law both teachers booked for our two families to have this weekend to celebrate their engagement. As teachers every penny counts so to me it was only fair they get a refund of rates. Asked for manager. This is where it became comical. Ivy only comes into work 3 days a week. Okay I'll call. The staff of this motel are all friendly and funny and doing their best for sure but the manager Ivy.. Ivy.... 1. Says to me that it is normal to wait an hour or more after check in to get into your room. Says to me after I informed her I've never had to wait an hour or longer for a reserved room that I haven't traveled much then. Says to me that my party was being impatient asking to check in at 4 or even 4:45 for our RESERVED 4 pm reservation. Says to me that she owes us no refund or discounted rate because at end of the day they accommodated us. The conversation was beyond frustrating and showed her lack of professionalism, character and care for her position. She's rude and misinformed. The only time she took a step back is when I informed her I would indeed be calling Better Business Bureau as she wasn't clearly understanding she was violating their own policies including ADA laws in bathroom. I don't expect perfect but I do expect when you are in charge you take responsibility. if your customers were not satisfied with a stay, it IS reasonable IVY for a guest to check into their room at the motels check in time and not be happy after waiting an hour. It is reasonable IVY if your motel cannot accommodate your customer with a room they paid for and reimburse them the rate difference for a downgraded room. I hope the owners sees this review and evaluate who they have in charge because this motel really has the potential and the staff I saw on site were friendly. They could do a better job than Ivy with their great attitudes. Heck I could manage from my home 2 hours away better than Ivy. read more

We enjoyed our stay at Sandyland Reef Inn. Looks like the inside was freshly painted. Bed was comfortable, no bugs . I requested the main floor and they accommodated us. My only complaint and it wasn't a big deal. We went to checkin at 3:15. Stood in line filled out the paperwork and then he told us to come back at 4:00 to pick up the key, so we came by later and stood in line again. Seems like there should be a more efficient way to do it. But we definitely will stay there again. read more

Literally would rather burn in the depths of hell than return here and be berated by the short man working the front desk. After driving for 7.5 hours to this hotel, I forgot to disclose I have a registered ESA with me while checking in. Did not think anything of it as my partner was taking him for a walk after the car ride and I've never had to disclose my animal being with me before. If there's ever an issue, the front desk usually calls the room to have that conversation. At 11:36 pm, we were awoken to someone knocking on our door claiming we were "evicted from the property" for not disclosing my animal. We have been refused a refund, they will not answer Booking.coms calls, and we were cast out on our asses with no idea where to go. This place is gross. The rooms are dirty....they don't give you any soaps or shampoos/conditioners. When we checked into our room there were dirty rags from the cleaning owners I'm sure. Doesn't look like they have a cleaning company at all. The room has a very strong muggy odor when we got here. The beds are slightly uncomfortable. The water pressure feels like you're getting licked by a shower. The sheets looked like they were stained and not cleaned in between people. The pillows were stinky. Thank god I'm traveling and brought my own. I would highly suggest the motel 6 right next door before this place. read more

Arrived early and I Can't check in til after 4:00pm! & Out by 11am. Our room smelled like urine. They do not clean the place correctly! Seems like they spray some kind of disinfectant to make it seem as if it was cleaned!! The smell is strong at first u have to air the place out. Then night comes and the smell of urine kicks in!! We took the train from San Diego. When the train stopped we got a call from the hotel saying they are going to cancel our reservation if we didn't show up in an hour. We reserved it through booking.com . We had to speedwalk a couple miles with our luggage to get there in time because there were no Uber's or taxi's near by.. The room was very dirty and the night staff was rude. We later found out he was the manager. They offer coffee in the morning, but it's instant coffee and the hot water comes from a kurig. ... This place is absolutely disgusting. A used condom was hanging over a light fixture when we walked into our king suite. When I called the manager, they would not refund or give us a different room. They sent a kid in to pick up the used condom that was full of semen hanging right over the bed. They would not give a refund and said that we probably planted it there. There wasn't many options the weekend we were in the area we were stuck. The place was clean. There were no bedbugs. The sleeping area was pretty good with comfortable beds. The air condition unit seemed old, but it worked. The bathroom felt very dated and with that, it felt like the type of old that feels really hard to look/feel clean. The staff in the office was neither friendly nor mean. House keeping staff were friendly and helpful. This place is a budget place to stay. I don't expect much other than cleanliness. I feel that's what a got. A clean old room that didn't smell. If I wanted newer and nicer, I could have paid double elsewhere. read more

This seems to be a fine place to sleep but that is it. It is not an "Inn", literally a old school motel whose rooms probably got a refresh about 7-8 years ago. It is fine. Don't expect any amenities beyond a bed to sleep and a bathroom with a stall shower. The "suite" turns out to be a standard room that has a half wall between bed and loveseat size couch (twin-size foldout). King bed was reasonable and appears clean, not uncomfortable. Property is a little loud - again, motel quality walls. WiFi is embarrassingly bad, literally old dial-up speeds. Speedtest app wouldn't even register a speed. I can't say I'd stay here again but was the only place in SB area that we could find this weekend for less than $200. read more

This place looks clean on the surface but is very dirty the floors have not been mopped in ages my feet get black just walking from my bed to the bathroom my mom had to mop the floors with a towel, there are lots of bugs, bed bugs and I saw a couple of actual roaches, we don't sleep underneath the sheets we just sleep on top of them and use the throw blanket to cover up but there are so many bed bugs that they come to the surface of the bed, the manager ivy is very rude and tried to make us pay for something that was already broken when we got to the room she made us pay for two sheets because she said there was two chocolate stains on them and she said they don't know how to clean them so she charged us $20 for the sheets she is unprofessional and will get money out of customers any way she can she is not to be trusted. The sandyland is a dirty motel the bathroom smelled like mold when we first arrived my mother also had to buy supplies to clean it because it smelled so bad the mold smell was all over the room. Ivy lied and said she would have someone come fix the socket because it comes out of the wall and it's dangerous and she knew it was like that before we got here but tried to make us pay for it to get fixed. When she realized we were not going for the bullshit she lied and said she would have someone come fix it that day and she didn't. This place is pitiful ivy is horrible. They let people live in the hotel and there are crazies and drug addicts all over the place. We didn't want them to service the room and when she told us we didn't have a choice they came in the room and complained about crumbs being on the bed and tried to tell us that we'd have to pay for it. It's just weird shit going on here they try to get you for money for any old reason. Once again ivy is very unprofessional she has an ugly attitude an ugly spirit and very poor customer service. Me and my best friend stayed here through our trip for a concert. I wasn't sure that it would be good for the price because it was super cheap. It was pleasantly everything that I look for in hotel, friendly staff, clean rooms, no bed bugs, clean bathrooms and overall just a very cute relaxing room. We stayed there for three nights, spent time walking around, chilled in the clean hot tub and pool. To clear up rumors about the place, their were no bedbugs in the room, their was no extra charge, the deposit was just as they said, they don't sneak money behind your back. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants a quick easy stay. It was near the beach, near cute stores and definitely not an inconvenience. They were super nice as well. Don't know why people are acting like it's horrible. It's not, but I do recommend for a cheap stay like I said. Definitely would go back, and definitely would spread the word :) read more

I have actually stayed here twice, once in aug of 2019 and again in Nov 2020. I stayedn2 days 3 nights each time and explored the amenities it had to offer. The good: the hotel is quant and local sitting between Santa Barbara and Ojai. It's got a hot tub and a pool both of which are decently kept. The to have recently been updated so there's newer TV's, decor, and appliances. Because the hotel is a cul de sac type layout it is relatively safe from the outside with only one way in and way out. They recently added washers and dryers for public use. The bad: the staff can be a little short. I don't necessarily think it's bad staffing just their customer service needs improvement. The internet is bad, like might as well use mobile data bad. Even from the first time I stayed here the internet has not improved. The guests that stay here can be a little roudy and staff. Doesn't really do anything about that. Bed is stiff. All that said overall it was a decent experience both times. The location and expense make it attractive. I may stay here again in the future, I'm used to how things go here, once you get used to the flow of things it's not as bad as others make it out to be. read more

My mother tried to get room and the guy at the front desk yelled at her and she wasn't understanding why, she tried to ask what was happening and he said she caused problems that morning which made her even more confused. He didn't give her an explanation just yelled and yelled at her. (My mother is a tiny older lady that has serious health issues and was in town visiting her doctors) I'm so upset that people are actually like this. Bed bugs found in 2 rooms March 2022. We rented through the hotel the for the first night and had 2 more nights with booking. As soon as we turned out the lights, my daughter saw things crawling by her face with her cell phone light. We hit the lights and found bed bugs of all sizes on the bed, inside the pillow cases, in the sheets and we lifted up the cloth bed board and found a colony. We went to the front office to report the room, she gave us another room all the way across the building and my daughter just lifted off that headboard and there they were. We got our money back and tried to report them to Booking. they canceled our stay but we could not leave any reviews. read more

Stayed here while in route to Luis Obispo. This ended up being the least expensive spot in the area. Looking at reviews, I was slightly concerned however, this place was actually pretty good. The place is relatively old however, the way they painted the room was awesome. They painted the room with light colors that made it very bright and lively. The room was nice and oddly enough the bed as very comfortable. The bathroom we had was set up for wheel chair access so there was a lot of space. The shower was pretty small and had one of those cloth curtains that allowed water to go through it on to the floor. Access to the hotel was easy as it was right off the highway. My wife did find gum on the side of her night stand. Overall, I would stay here again. Not bad for the price. read more

I stay here 2x a week today was by far the worst experience. I'm swimming with my husband and I'm asked to get out the pool because it is closed. The sign clearly states 9am-10pm. It is now 9:07pm. Our only negative was noisy neighbors (upstairs, above us); it sounded like they were dancing in their room until 11:30pm. Also, early morning (7am-ish), folks were noisy. Manager should be FIRED! YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS A JOKE! I visited my Brother who traveled from across the states and I drove an hour to come see him. YES. I violated the rules. I have my blind/eyeless emotional support dog that I carried in. I was unaware of he rule. I asked to pardon my brother because I was not staying with him. We were asked to vacate. We vacated in 10 min. NO PROBLEM. He still had 2 more nights paid for. Before leaving I asked the front desk for a copy of the Hotel's Policy. I also asked for an invoice. So that we have it in writing. Front desk said They don't have it... they couldn't give us a copy. BOGUS. I found it online & read it. Yes. "No dogs allowed". That is not my issue. My issue is the fact that they were not communicative and didn't do their job! The front desk told us to call the next day. Manager would be in. NEXT DAY: Called. Spoke to the same worker the day before. Manager did not even a call back. SECOND DAY: Called. They hadn't even relayed the message to the manager. I got to speak to "Marco" "THE MANAGER". I asked 2 questions. "i need an invoice and your a copy of your policy" (cool, calm, and collected). He said no they don't do that and for my brother to call and ask. Brother calls then calls me back says he was being rude and HE HUNG UP ON HIM!!!! Is that too much to ask a manager of a hotel? I called back and asked what happened? This was our go to spot a few years back. Their prices were reasonable, and the rooms were adequate. At some point during the last year the prices nearly doubled. On top of that, the last time my wife and stayed at sandy land, homeless people were staying in the unit adjacent to ours. The 3 or 4 characters staying there had their bicycles parked in front of their unit. Then, one of the homeless people came over to me and asked if I was the manager of the motel. Quaint little motor lodge off the 101 Freeway in Carpenteria. Even though it's a little "run down at the heels", you can tell the owners are trying to make it nice. Room had everything we needed for the stay. Quiet, the AC worked well, clean room. Certainly NOT the Four Seasons, but if you're not too fussy, a good place to stay. read more
