Came here as a last stop on a girl's trip before we called it a night and what a treat! The grounds were still decorated with Christmas lights and the speakeasy type bar was so cozy. You have to make reservations to be seated but we came on a weekday so that was easy. Very upscale cozy bar. We came towards the end of the and missed the live music so would definitely keep that on my radar for next time. The drink menu is extensive and they literally have something for everyone. From scotch, vodka, rum, champagne and even absinthe towers, to nonalcoholic drinks like sodas and mocktails- there will be something for you. Many more I didn't list but I can bet they have it. It's on the pricier side, but again this is a place expected for that. The peanuts they make are a great snack and the ambience gave me joy to see all the ornaments hanging from the ceiling. The service was amazing and we felt welcomed and cared for. Hopefully one day we can stay as guests at this beautiful hotel. read more

While a beautiful property, the customer experience we had today was terrible. We pulled into the valet station behind another car, and the valet started backing up the car in front of us very quickly and very close to our vehicle (enough to set off the sensors). It really looked like he was going to hit us, so I tapped the horn lightly. He threw his arm out the window as if to tell me to shut up. When he approached our car, he said "There's no honking on the valet circle." I responded that he was moving too fast and close for comfort, to which he replied "We do this all the time". I told him that was no comfort...he was too close and It was evident to both my husband and I that he *might* hit our car, which made us uncomfortable. He did not respond. His name is Troy and I plan to file an official complaint about him with the resort's management. We asked to speak to a manager to share our lack-of-welcome experience at the valet station, but none appeared after almost 20 minutes. I even tried to call the main telephone line later to share feedback (figuring they would want a different welcome experience for guests), but no one answered the main phone line, nor did it go to voice mail after 8 rings. When we decided to leave the property (after trying to have lunch anyway at the Stonehouse restaurant, where we were told our dog was not welcome on the patio unless I could provide proof she is a certified service dog, which is literally a question that cannot be asked in the state of California, but more importantly it was outdoor dining and the web site for the resort goes out of the way to attest to dog-friendliness), that same valet (Troy) was again rude, drove our car far too fast around a small roundabout and was ungracious as we took the car (we remained calm and polite througout). This experience was so poor, and we felt so unwelcome, it is unlikely we would ever return, despite how excited we were to visit the gorgeous resort for the first time. It's sad that such a high-end resort doesn't have more of a customer service ethic built into their model. I expected far better. read more

I came here for dessert and drinks and they were able to sit us despite being fully booked for the evening. We sat outside in the courtyard which was so beautiful and relaxing. I ordered a hot toddy and shared cherries jubilee and chocolate soufflé. The cherries jubilee was prepared under a flame which was a nice touch. The waitstaff were excellent, the hostesses were what you would expect for this type of area and wealth. I peeked inside their bar which was gorgeously decorated for Christmas and would love to come back to enjoy some cocktails in there. The Christmas bar that they have is great. You must make a reservation in advance. I would say that our bartender was spectacular. He was very knowledgeable and nice. The drinks and appetizers were also very good. The live music was great and unique but still very festive. We drove from Thousand Oaks to Santa Barbara to have lunch at San Ysidro ranch. Made reservations at 11:36. The woman who answered at the Stonehouse said "it's very busy but I'll honor your reservation asked for the spelling of my name and phone number. When we arrived at San Ysidro they told us we didn't have a reservation and the host and hostess could not find our reservation. I showed them on my cell phone the time I called. Then the food and beverage director showed up said "he could not honor our reservation and that they were booked. We would not have driven up had we realized the way they treat their customers. Especially since we've been going there for more than 30 years. Not a nice experience, very unprofessional. This is only one of several issues we've experienced over the years. We ended up at the Rosewood hotel across the way and were treated with open arms. I rate my experience with the San Ysidro as extremely poor. It has gone seriously down hill with their customer service. Never mind the embarrassment they caused us. read more

It's probably unrealistic to not have some tables in less than ideal locations, but we had a view of the waiter station with pitchers and the computers during our dinner, and it was distracting. My husband book the room and we were traveling from the east coast and wanting to know where would sum good sight seeing spots were when we asked her she was on her phone rolling her eyes the whole time and then tells us to just look it up with our phones and that she's busy to then just go back on her phone and text. My husband came later to ask her questions and she was hitting on him and tried to get my husband to follow her TikTok where she has a link to her Venmo asking him to send her money! You drive thru a long and beautiful driveway to get to the valet where they direct you to the restaurant. The entrance was already beautiful but when you walk on the grounds the beauty never fades. We had made reservations and was seated promptly. It was Sunday brunch so it was a prefixed menu. My husband got champagne which he said tasted one of the best and I got a peach bellini. Their pastry basket was great, filled with a good variety of baked goods and all tasty. We ordered the crabcake and salad then for the entree steak and halibut. Then for dessert got the lemon tart and chocolate cake. We were celebrating our anniversary and they decorated the plates beautifully. The staff was so amazing. I just had an enchanting afternoon tea. It was the perfect way to spend my day off. I've never been here and just loved it!! Also, because it was during the week and barely even saw any other guests. Another enchanting stay in a spacious, lovely creekside Cottage. The gardens are exquistely landscaped and maintained. Service is excellent from all the various staff on property. Food is delicious, and the setting is upscale, romantic and intimate. Very nice handwritten note in the Cottage, welcoming us. Complimentary amenity of little box of chocolate was very welcome. Under the counter refrigerator also had complimentary beverages. Not the alcohol though - so be aware! Housekeeping arrived on time for both morning make-up and evening turn down, and were very nice. Lighting in the Cottage is frustratingly non- intuitive. They really should hardwire an "all lights off" at night switch by the bed. Wall and table Lighting, while charming, is not bright enough to read by. Mattress and foundation or box spring definitely needs an upgrade. The matress sets made for the Peninsula Hotel Beverly Hills are far superior in comfort and quality. The price point is extortionate. And yet, the Ranch is so beautiful and unique that it is worth the occasional splurge. We'd come more often and stay a bit longer if the rates were less occasionally. My husband and I went for our anniversary. The 5 prior times we requested upstairs -outside table . Each time they dropped the ball . This place is very status based . I truly believe the wealthier clientele get preferential treatment.. I'm sure they're keeping score on the board . Restaurants do .... Ironically we go to The French Laundry several times a yr ... they remember us and treat us like family . This place does not . We were told they couldn't get us an outside table . The hostess actually straight up lied to me and told me I requested another table . She lied to my face .!!! The manger told us we could wait for a table if we wish . Somebody told me they wanted to go to the best restaurant in Santa Barbara so San Ysidro Ranch was the only thing that came to mind. It truly is five star dining. The sauce on the rack of lamb was intense and rich and perfect. It was a lovely evening. We sat on the patio. Nearly every table was full and yet it was not noisy or congested. The service was professional without being stuffy. Each dish was full of great flavors, complex to create simplicity without complication. And the cocktails were great! We celebrated my daughter's 29th birthday by treating ourselves to a mani (my daughter) and pedi (me). Karin is a delight. She was easy to chat with and made the experience that much more enjoyable. The setting is beautiful with a fountain and birds and a cozy area to enjoy complimentary snacks and bubbly. Dazzle Dry is the way to go and she carefully and professionally cleaned our nail beds and removed cuticles and my feet haven't looked this great in quite a while. San Ysidro Ranch is a really strange and confusing case of a luxury property that sometimes operates like a budget motel or fast food restaurant. My partner and I were interested in their newly announced afternoon tea. Note that SYR is on OpenTable, but at least for afternoon tea, you cannot book it there. You cannot find a single date, even months into the future, that allows booking. Instead, they instruct you to call to make reservations on the website. I did this and secured a spot for Saturday afternoon. As soon as I hung up, I got a text message from OpenTable to secure my reservation by entering a credit card. This is $65 tea people, and SYR is taking a card to secure it in case of no-shows? I dug into this deeper and realized that on OpenTable, SYR has NO reviews. The reason is they figured out a way to take your CC number and manage your reservation but in a way where you are never considered a diner. OpenTable only allows you to leave a review if you've successfully dined at a restaurant. We arrived five minutes early and had no problem with the front gate check-in and valet. They were super fast. We didn't know where to go, but a manager quickly helped check us in. We were led to a lounge where others were waiting and more people arrived. We waited 35 minutes before someone grabbed us to get seated, while we watched others who arrived after us and likely had later reservations get seated first. We were led to a nice outdoor patio area with 2-3 empty tables. There did not seem to be any sort of rush or issue turning over tables, that would justify a wait of 35 minutes past our reservation time. When I asked the hostess what happened she just mumbled a response. No sincere apology or explanation. The courtyard, while nice, had a really weird seating arrangement. All the tables face each other, so as long as you look up and out, you are staring at other parties. Super weird. We had a great waiter who was attentive but not very polished in taking orders. He kept asking if we wanted to start with appetizers and was mumbling some dishes, but it's not very clear what the options were. The menu shows a few options, but we weren't sure if he meant these two items (oysters, caviar) or something else. What made it more confusing is we heard a table across from us order "Korean Tacos". Yes, Korean tacos. I had to google Plow and Angel, and Stonehouse's menu to find it offered as a main on the SH dinner menu. I don't know if we were supposed to memorize the restaurant menus or look them up on our phones. Order was taken quickly and the savory sandwiches came quickly. They serve loose-leaf tea, which is a plus, but there was a good amount of delay before they brought my filter. If you are serious about tea you know that temperature and time are the most important factors. So my green tea was extremely oversteeped and bitter for the first pot, because of how long it took before I could pour it. Later steeps were better. Overall the food (both sandwiches and sweets) was tasty but also really strange. All the pastries were really small, which is fine, but it feels like the chefs are refusing to use baking powder. The cookies were flat and reminded me of dollar pancakes. The scones were about 3/4 of an inch tall and not the type of luxurious pull-apart sweet and savory scones you can lather butter or cream on like one might expect. Speaking of lather, they don't serve clotted cream with their scones but instead replace it with mascarpone cheese. The waiter played it off like this was some positive change and kept saying it was "just like" clotted cream. No, it's not. I expect clotted cream and jam with afternoon tea scones. Overall, the food tasted fine, and the service once seated was pretty good but there were so many small weird issues from the time we arrived until we left. Overall, we were not that upset and thought it was ok, but there were so many small issues that it really ruined the special first Mother's Day for my partner. I feel like everything could have been easily fixable, but it doesn't seem like SYR cares or has the right training for their employees. There really aren't many good afternoon tea options in Santa Barbara, and I thought SYR would be a place to buck that trend and somewhere I could take family and out-of-town guests. I visited guest services to purchase a gift certificate for a spa treatment advertised on your website. After confirming over the phone that you would honor the listed price despite a website error, I expected a smooth process. Unfortunately, when I arrived to pick it up, the certificate wasn't prepared, and the representative refused to specify the treatment on the certificate (Only the dollar amount). Due to the unique situation, this could potentially create unnecessary confusion for the gift recipient and defeats the purpose of a hassle-free treat. As I'm currently sick, I had asked for the certificate to be emailed, but since that wasn't an option, I made the trip in person--only to face these frustrating issues. We come here for dinner whenever we are in Montecito and it's truly like being transported to another world, filled with twinkle lights and beautiful flowers. The staff are all so kind and the food and drinks are amazing. I would love to stay here some day as a guest and cannot even imagine how beautiful it would be to get married on the property. Staying there is pricey but going for dinner is a great way to experience the ranch without breaking the bank.
