This was my first visit to Cary Tailor Shop. I was trying to make sachets for Christmas presents and my sewing machine broke down. Given the time crunch, I went here to see if I could get help. The lady who was helping customers (I wish I had gotten her name) was very patient and kind about my project. I had 60 cloth squares I needed sewed around 3 sides making 30 pockets for filling. She gave me a really good price for the job and offered a three day turnaround. When I picked up my 30 squares, I saw that she had, indeed, sewed around three sides of each but she also turned them inside out and pressed them so all I had to do was fill and sew up the fourth side. i was blown away that someone would do that for me. It saved me a lot of time and effort, and I wanted to write a review so people would know how Impressive she was. Cary Tailor Shop will always be my goto place for alterations. read more

I did a pretty thorough search trying to find a tailor for a simple hemming on a bridesmaid dress. Other reviews claimed that Cary Tailor Shop was reasonably priced, so I went there. My dress has a polyester shell and lining, and hemming it by a few inches was $50. That seems pricey to me, but maybe that's standard for the Raleigh area. Also, it's a little inconvenient that they only take cash or check, but they are upfront about that from the beginning. The job was done well and in a timely manner. read more

So we (my teen girls and I) have taken a few things here. Their pricing an expensive but seems that everywhere is about like this these days. We have adjusted a prom dress with them that worked the first time. This second dress we have brought in - it was more difficult - and they get a 5 star for that actual quality of sewing. They let out the dress and it looked difficult to accomplish. My 3 stars are for my experience there. The guy at the front said we only told him we wanted to let out the bodice. We didn't say anything about the hips of the dress. I would assume that if I am taking a dress to be altered to fit her (which was quite obvious I thought - the style of the dress was very fitted- that they would alter it so that the dress fit. We had to have them fix it 2 times and the second time he charged me $30 more.... Ok. He said the original price quotes ($70) only for letting out the body. Lastly, this third time we just came back to pick up- this dress (a bridesmaids dress) has 2 spots with stains on it now that was not there yesterday when we tried it on. When I showed him the dress and stains he said maybe water will get that out. I was not happy. So this place has become a mixed bag. They did do a decent job at communicating (via Text). I just was not happy having to pay $100 and walking out with a stain on the dress. Ugh. read more

I bought an old fur coat on eBay 5+ years ago for $100. The fur was in good shape, but the lining was shredded and the pockets were shot. Someone finally pointed out to me that I could probably have a tailor replace the lining - d'oh! I did a Yelp search, saw the great reviews and called Cary Tailor. She told me I'd have to go provide my own fabric (sent me to Joann Fabric), and that she would charge $70 for the job. My coat was ready in a week and it looks brand new. Came here to get a dress hemmed for a wedding recently and was very pleased with the overall job and service. I dropped it off Wednesday around noon and she asked when I needed it by and I got it back on Saturday morning with no issues. $20 for the hem job on a really nice silk dress with a lining. (Some other places were quoting me nearly double to do just that or otherwise charging rush fees.) Bottom line, come here if you want fast, cheap, and a great tailoring job. I brought two dresses in to get hemmed. $30 total, which seemed reasonable (they were both wrap-style dresses). I dropped off on a Wednesday or Thursday and picked up the following Tuesday. I don't get things tailored frequently (last time was probably my prom dress in high school), so this all seems reasonable, but I really have nothing to compare it to. There was a man getting a suit tailored while I was there. He wasn't sure what he wanted, and she provided advice for how to make the suit look flattering, so that's probably good if you don't know what you want.
