In terms of drinks, I tried the lavender latte and the tiramisu latte which were delicious and served me well when I needed an evening pick-me-up. And I am pretty sure every macaroon is delicious so you really can't go wrong with the flavors you choose. On separate occasions, I ended up sampling a variety of flavors, including birthday cake, hazelnut pistachio, Earl Grey, coconut, rose, blueberry lavender, and coffee. I truly appreciated how fresh and light each taste was, perfectly reflecting the artistry in the making of these macarons. The service was efficient and friendly, and the display case was a feast for the eyes--full of stunning, mouthwatering desserts. I hope everyone has as wonderful an experience as I did, enjoying both the coffee and the patisserie. Happy desserting to all!

They had a bit of a strange setup where you ordered by kiosk and only one person was working. The gelato selection was impressive. The form I got it in underwhelmed. Getting a cone somehow yielded a peanut chocolate coating that I don't think I asked for, which sounds like a bonus but it was a stale cone; maybe they were just trying to get rid of it. My choices of flavor were many, and the classics I settled on delivered. Getting a chocolate or a macaron on top is fun, and the flowerlike shape of gelato is interesting until it melts. However, for the price I paid for this dessert, I literally could have gotten a small dinner across the way. Don't get me wrong, I like imported gelato, and they have plenty of quality dairy and non-dairy selections. But the overall result underwhelmed me.

I tried an affogato for the first time in Italia, so I was wondering if any places here in the states would live up to the hype. I would say Amorino is as good as it gets! Their store front is at the Pentagon City Mall, in the food court area. The decor and ambience is . The area is well clean and there's a good amount of seating considering it's in the food court area. They have three kiosks where you can order from in addition to ordering directly at the counter. I ordered the affogato with Pistachio and Stracciatella. It was so delightful! I also didn't feel miserable after eating/drinking it. The service was amazing! They were super friendly and helpful. While the ice cream is much pricier than other local chains in the area, I do appreciate their seasonal flavors along with their classic Earl Grey Tea. Also, they're on inKind, which helps! We stopped by after lunch this past Sunday, and there was a long line. Unfortunately, there was only one employee, who did her best to give samples, scoop out ice cream, and manage the cash register all at once. I definitely think Van Leeuwen could use a couple more employees, especially on a hot summer Sunday afternoon. I got a single scoop (7.95) of banana pudding, a seasonal flavor, which was actually served as two mini scoops. I did enjoy how banana-y it was and the chunks of vanilla wafers throughout, but it was incredibly sweet. Unfortunately, I couldn't even finish my ice cream. A couple of others in our group tried the other seasonal flavor, strawberry rhubarb cheesecake. However, it mostly tasted like cheesecake with bits of crust, with no noticeable strawberry or rhubarb flavor. Overall, I still like that Van Leeuwen offers unique flavors, and their ice cream is rich and creamy, but this visit was pretty underwhelming. The ice cream is already expensive, and the excessive sweetness made it difficult to finish even a single scoop.
