Carvel (as part of Mario's Pizza House) remains a local favorite. We came here after dinner with friends to have some soft ice cream. It did not disappoint. Their patio is so nicely cordoned off from the traffic even though it's right by the road. Love all the string lights and plants. A joyful place to be on summer evenings. read more

This Carvel spot was so cute! According to their signs, they've been serving ice cream here since the 1950s, which made it feel extra special. It was surprisingly packed for a Wednesday evening, but the service was fast and efficient. Seeing so many people lined up for ice cream felt like the perfect start to summer and honestly brought me a lot of joy. I'll definitely be back! read more

Carvel - Twist Small Soft Serve w/ Rainbow sprinkles - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

I haven't been to a Carvel in years! Twist soft-serve was my go-to order as a kid and it still delivers especially on a hot summer day. It was a little unclear if I was supposed to go inside or order at the window but I figured it out (order outside) and was rewarded with ice creamy goodness! read more

Friendly service and tasty soft serve. Keep up the good work. Fun atmosphere. Long time customer. Great iconic landmark.

Walked into Carvel thinking it was going to be SO good because their store-bought ice cream cakes are literally delicious. Yeah... absolutely not I got the Double Chocolate Brownie and I genuinely don't know how you make chocolate ice cream taste like water mixed with chocolate syrup, but somehow they accomplished it. Barely any chocolate flavor and just overall so bad. Then we had the Vanilla Strawberry Shortcake Sundae and somehow it was even worse. The ice cream was weirdly gritty and looked like it was made with milk that had been sitting in the back of the fridge for a questionable amount of time And unfortunately, it tasted about as good as it looked. I don't know if we came on the worst possible day or what, but this was genuinely some of the worst ice cream I've ever had. I've had freezer-burned ice cream at home with more flavor. Save your money and just buy the Carvel cake from the grocery store because apparently that's where all their talent went. read more

What's better than to have dinner and walk over to Mario's to get some Carvel ice cream! I'm pretty simple, I love a good vanilla soft serve with rainbow sprinkles in a cake cone. This definitely hit the spot, but do wish I got a cup because summer time heat had this melting pretty quickly! read more

There is a free parking lot for customers in the back. We got the Reese's peanut butter cup carvelanche. Their vanilla ice cream isn't that creamy but the mix-ins were good. Also got the Chipster which is like a quintessential grocery store ice cream sandwich. Fluffy vanilla ice cream inside and soft dissolvable cookies on the outside. A bit pricey at over $5 for a small cookie ice cream sandwich and $13 for the carvelanche, which is like a shake. read more

I've been coming here for years. Always loved carvel. But now that it's $10 for a cone, you'd think they'd actually fill the cone? Came here to celebrate first day of school and we got, sad, sad dribbles of ice cream. I wouldn't care so much except it's so expensive!! Two kids and an adult, regular (small) size is $30 ugh read more

DELICIOUS ice cream!!! I cannot recommend the Peanut Butter Treasure enough! Chocolate ice cream with Reese's bits in it. So good. The flavors they make are high quality. You're paying for it though with a bit pricey of a menu. They do give you a substantial amount for a small cup so that's awesome. Ice cream orders made within a minute and handed to you at the cute little counter they have. Plenty of outdoor seating. The whole outdoor section had such cute decorations to make it a really great vibe to hang out with family or on a date. Several parking spots as well was a nice plus! read more

Too expensive but lots of ice cream and very tasty. $9 for soft serve is too much but the quality of Carvel is worthy of note. A huge amount of chocolate and vanilla swirl for my ice cream. Cool seating area. Very fast from order to delivery. read more

We went here for soft serve ice cream after lunch at a high end steakhouse. It was more for nostalgic reasons because I ate Carvel growing up in NYC. It's sort of pricey like everything else and the cost of a small cone $7.49 but the worst is a topping cost $1.79! That is ludicrous. They also overcharged us for a topping and the manager corrected it. read more

At $7.50 for a small ice cream and $10 for a small milkshake the prices are a little steep! We were served quickly and settled on a twisted small soft serve. There were very limited shady seats and none left, so we took it to go. I enjoyed the ice cream! read more

A childhood memory. First off am happy to find this. Carvel was well, Cookie Puss, Fudgie the Whale, and other characters if I remember them correctly. Nostalgia lives here. It's in a nice part of Arlington, but $36 for three ice cream cones and bottles of water is insane. Sorry that won't be happening anytime soon. Is the rent and inflation for real? Yeah but I can't justify this cost. Is the ice cream good? Absolutely. Yet there is a lot of competition. I'll say it is tasty, and I liked having it today as hot weather. Very efficient and friendly staff. It's connected to Mario's. Parking is challenging. I liked it but it is not in the love category. read more

Very poor customer service I came walking from our AMAZING evening out with my adult kids and her boyfriend that was visiting from Denmark. Since it was his first time at a Carvel, I figured I'd have him try one of the flavors before I purchased a $20 ice cream cone but unfortunately before I could even get my words out I was yelled at to go back outside and order my ice cream from the window. The two girls working behind the counter, obviously didn't really want to be there as they said we can't help you. Too bad his first experience at carvel will be his last read more

Disgusting service and the ladies don't listen. They probably own it so they think it's ok to be nasty. If they don't own it they need to be replaced. They are miserable and always give such nasty service. Don't even listen to order. read more

I enjoyed an ice cream here on a summer evening. We got there just before a long line formed around 8:45pm. They have a little outdoor seating area with cute lights and picnic tables. There are also tarps hanging to shade from the sun. The lady at the window was not very friendly. And unfortunately, they were out of their flavor of the month: KitKat. The small ice cream costs $7, which seems like a crime, but obviously we got it anyways. I had a kiddie cup of chocolate chip cookie dough. The ice cream was good, and I was happy with the experience. read more

Been a customer here for as long as I have been one of Mario's Pizza House. It's so inviting to grab ice cream after eating at Mario's. Overall this Carvel is a good experience for traditional ice cream options and American staples. This place has an incredibly extensive cold dessert menu. So much that it makes me wonder if it is all served fresh. I normally get soft serve ice cream or hand dipped ice cream. Despite how good their ice cream is my biggest concern is the inconsistent customer service and inconsistent quality of the ice cream. On too many occasions the hand dipped ice cream I purchased was freezer burned. More concerning is in those instances they knew the ice cream was freezer burned yet they still packaged and sold it. If ever I get hand dipped ice cream I walk into the store to inspect the ice cream case to determine if the ice cream is fresh and not freezer burned. I don't like that I have to do this, however it is necessary considering the prices here are above average, so imagine paying above average for ice cream and it is freezer burned. I've purchased milkshakes, floats, Chipsters, chocolate dipped soft serve and others however recently I've stuck with the soft serve ice cream because it is the safest bet and most consistent ice cream they offer. There were occasions where I purchased Chipsters and they were simply rock hard. Literally impossible to bite with human teeth. They were so hard it took minutes to thaw even in the summer air. I simply stopped purchasing Chipsters. Regarding the customer service, the girls that work here are really nice once you get to know them. I think the lacking customer service stems from the occasional language barrier. As a result their shortness or shyness can be taken the wrong way but they really are sweet girls once you get to know them over time. Again, the customer service can be better but it's not bad nor is it negligent. The lacking customer service comes into play when issues arise such as poorly packaged ice cream. They've become more consistent in how they package the ice cream however that wasn't always the case as there would be times I had to ask them to wipe the side of the ice cream cup because they let ice cream drip down the side of the cup or to replace the cone because they put ice cream in a cracked cone which eventually breaks in your hand. Essentially these are quality control issues that should be remedied with standard protocols. Overall an OK experience and it gets better as you get to know the staff. I want to give this place a 4 star however in fairness it wouldn't be right to do so considering there are better ice cream shops that offer higher quality ice cream and consistently better with customer service. Perhaps the iconic status of this Carvel location and the long lines it serves on Fridays and weekends keeps this location in the middle of the pack of local ice cream shops comparable to Hershey's ice cream shops. Give them a try. read more

Not the best ice cream in the area but they do open late and have interesting flavors! It's also a bit expensive (about $5 for a small scoop) but you're paying for the late hours and hole-in-a-wall vibes here. I got the "Coffee Toffee" which was very average. There wasn't much toffee so most of my bites were coffee ice cream which tasted pretty diluted and subpar. However, the bites that did contain toffee did taste a lot better and made it more unique. I dug around for the toffee and tossed half of my ice cream after I ate all the chunks. Probably wouldn't get this flavor again. My friend got the "Triple Chocolate Brownie" which was quite rich and delicious, so I'll probably go with that flavor the next time I come back. Overall, 3.5/5 but will bump to a 4/5 for the late hours, 1950s ice cream parlor vibes, and that the other flavors seem to be better. read more

Prices felt steep for ice cream, BUT portion sizes were actually really good. We both got "small" with one topping on them (which was plenty of ice cream) and the totally came out to around $20. Very expensive ice cream in a less-than-ideal location right off the road. They don't let you try flavors, and the flavors they have, while very tasty, are not worth the extreme price. A nice place for an afternoon treat, but not worth the time if it's out of your way read more

Whoohoo! So as the last remaining Carvel in Northern Virginia, I had to order my company's monthly birthday cake from this place. We ordered two cakes, because why not? I came here on a Sunday morning which was nice and quiet. Though I did start a line & people were very antsy to get their ice cream at 12 PM (sorry!). The girl at the counter was very sweet and made sure I got everything I wanted. She had me call Tuhin who is the cake decorator (and I'm pretty sure the owner) to confirm that the designs were do-able. I wasn't able to get anything crazy done, but for the cakes, one rainbow and one 4th of july theme was do-able. Tuhin did an amazing job & even when I called last minute to squeeze on some extra names, he was accommodating. The ice cream cake is a bit different than the one you can get in the stores. The crunchies are softer and more fine. Tuhin told me he made all the cakes fresh and are not sitting in the freezer for very long. I would order from this place again! Everybody loved the ice cream cakes & I even got to take home the left over cake (calling it a win win). read more

I went to this location after seeing all the nondairy options they advertised on their website. I was really excited to try it for the first time. Cute place to grab ice cream on a date, but that's it. The parking lot is cramped, the line is super long and it is often a chaotic mess when Mario's is busy too, paid $10 for an ice cream cone(two scoops) and no napkins on the table. Really big fan of their cake so I was curious how their other stuff fared. I ordered two scoops of ice cream and the quality was horrible. My scoop of butter pecan was served melted already. The Nutella flavor I got tasted like straight up chocolate. No hint of Nutella at all. It also had some freezer ice on it. I've definitely been spoiled by Ice Cream Jubilee and Jeni's who serve nothing, but creamy perfection. The poor little kids that come here... bless their little souls. I hate complaining! I do! I would rather write a good review than a bad one. For decades, I've come to this Carvel next to Mario's here on Wilson Blvd. Although it's been some time, the wife and I stopped by an order a cup of ice cream and a milk shake. We are literally sick! I can't believe this. Her ice cream tasted chalky. Not smooth and creamy! Like when the ice cream gets freezer burn. My milkshake was not good at all. I should have waited to taste the ice cream first. I swear if we feel any worse, I'm contacting Health department for Virginia food safety. This is NOT acceptable! I'm also going to go back and take pictures of the ice cream to see if it is indeed old frost bit and these people are still serving it. read more
