Just writing an update. I did receive a refund through my bank after Carters refused. So I purchased another bulb for my bearded dragon at Walmart for half the price of Carters and its already been going for hundreds of hours and still going strong. I purchased 50 silk worms last week from Carters but my bearded dragon didn't like them. I heard pet smart and other places has the same worms for less than half the price. Almost done with this place. read more

Untrained birds and bad customer service.Parrots bite for no reason and very rude owner.We purchased a parrot and went to return it and the owner through the parrot to the ground and told us to relax.My husband told them about the bird and they through our parrot to the ground and got bit by there other bird.Be careful when shopping there.Horrible customer service. read more

I am a retired low income woman who frequently shopped at Carters in Stockton years ago. Now living in Modesto I decided to shop at this Carters store for my dogs needs. I struggled when Covid19 started and needed dog food. I asked here and expected maybe a few cans or small sample bags but was so surprised when I was given a large box of really excellent food for my dog! She loves it, and I will be having her groomed here for the first time. It's clean, very knowledgeable staff and my pet store in Modesto. read more

Everyone working there told us everything we wanted to hear about buying this bird, saying it's one of the quietest birds, easiest to take care of, they're the sweetest. We believed them because all our research was mixed results so we trusted them. Almost $1500 was spent on the bird and supplies and I don't have the time to take care of it like it needs because they lied to us about how much it really needs. Completely just lied out of their mouths to make a sale Edited to add: the more and more my partner and I talk to people who've owned this type of bird for years, the more we're hearing the pet shop lied to make a sale. If you go to pick up canned wet food in a sealed case, make sure you open the box before leaving the store...I got a case (supposed to have 24 cans) that was missing 6 cans. Didn't know that til I got it home and unsealed it. Looked on the cash register receipt, and yes, I was charged the full amount! About a $12 hit! read more

After searching for crickets we came across this place as they are new. Great little shop with lots of cool repriles,birds,and fish. Hood prices and they have a big selection of cages for birds and when we went had about 7 different exotic birds. Highly recommend to get your supplies! read more

The store manager has approached me and helped every time I have been in here. Tonight I went in with my 3 young children and he stopped what he was doing to ask if I needed help so I wasn't overwhelmed. He walked the store with us and gave us options. We ended up with exactly what we needed. Our puppy is very happy with her new chewie. Love this store. All staff is helpful and the manager is hands on with customers. read more

As I read the reviews 0f this store, I had the same experienced with one of the review so, it is normal for them to BS their customers. When I started buying a the dog food in the store( Stella and Chewy's- Chicken Patty- Size Large Bag) they told me that , if I reached to 12 purchases I will have a one bag free on my 13 purchased ( try look at it in their websites). So, I was enrolled they took my information like Email and phone number, etc. But unfortunately when I reached to that 12 bags purchases they don't honor my loyalty rewards because I was not enrolled with them so many excuses and reasons, I was wondering why they asking my phone number when I made a purchases when in fact it doesn't make senses to the rewards, and when I tried many times to talked to the manager the employees kept saying he is not here (with rude gesture from employee because they are lying) until I directly looking for the manager I talked to him(which also rude& sarcastic) about it but again unfortunately he could not do anything about it, another BS. so, I asked him how about my history of purchases, he said its gone, another BS. because all knew that nowadays we live in digital memory and database. The best he can to is to start over all over again. WOW! bravo to that kind customer service. I have been to Carters Pet store several times now and it has quickly become my favorite place to shop for my cats needs. They have an incredible variety of high quality items for every kind of pet possible. Their prices are competitive and fair. I love the beautiful exotic birds they have, along with other animals there. I was shocked at all the different services they offer, which includes vet care I believe. Best of all is their incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff. Everyone is helpful and kind. I especially enjoy talking with Evelyn, who truly loves her job and animals. She is eager to help and goes the extra mile to show you where things are and any options available. There is just a great vibe at Carters and it's right next to Safeway, which has a Starbucks you can sit down at, afterwards. I highly recommend Carters to any pet lover and say "Hello" to Evelyn. Stopped in to pick up some dog food and was really impressed with their customer service and fish selection. Ended up picking up some beautiful additions to my tank. I was greeted as soon as I walked in, I believe by the owner which is a big change from my normal trips to Petco. Prices were surprisingly cheaper than petco too which is a plus. I have been coming to this store since it opened and always have a great experience. They have an excellent selection of your typical mammal pet supplies as well as fish, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and inverts. They even have a decent selection of isopods. I have purchased a few tarantulas and scorpions here and all have been in great shape and are thriving. They also have a great selection of feeders, although they are a little more expensive than serpentarium they do open earlier which is more convenient for me and it's a better location for me as well. I am in here probably once a week and everyone is always so nice and attentive, it's really a fun place to shop. I'm glad to have such a great option with great healthy animals so close to me that I can really trust. read more

Update. Water was not tested correctly as the vials were already dirty from the previous test. I test my water daily. I told your employee that to drink the water after I was already receiving rude treatment. Honestly your reputation as a company should be everything as your legacy will be tarnished by this sort of business practices. You speak of me being rude but you speak noting of tyler, belittling your employees in front of customers. And I've done alot to spread the word of shady business practices going on through out your company. What about the time tyler sold me a broken ornament at 50% off and than proceeded to tell me that your vendor doesn't require the item back when filing a damage claim. I would defiently rethink some things about how you run your business. It's all over social media about how your fish tanks are dirty and full of sick fish. Also how tyler treats people is well documented through out social media. Also the fact that you have Columbian sharks that are brackish in a fresh water tank is beyond me and borderline animal abuse. read more

Been coming here for a couple of years have spent thousands on dog food. I go in a few weeks ago to get my 13th bag of dog food for free since i had already bought 12 bags. The employee tells me I can't get my normal flavor fish and have to get the red meat flavor because at one point I bought a bad of red meat as it was $5 off. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago and red meat is the same price as the fish one. I don't have time to go back and get the free bag they say I can have and the manager isn't around to help me deal with the issues so I buy my one bag of fish and leave. Today I go back to get my free bag and buy a second bag and the employee. Now tells me I have to get the wild prairie flavor because that is the cheapest one even though I have never gotten this flavor before. You idiots lost thousands of future dollars over your cheap BS. I'll just shop online like everyone else I try and support local small businesses and they don't know what they're doing. read more

The other day I went to buy fish I had a budget of about $100 and I requested help in the fish section and the guy who normally gets them he was was talking to two individuals in which I see the employee grab a pack which looked and smelled like weed all the way to where I was standing, he then gave them money and continued to talk to the individuals and ignored us. At that point we just walked out and took our business to pet-smart. Will no longer return to this store. read more

This place is wonderful. The customer service is fantastic. They have absolutely every kind of pet food from organic to the cheap stuff. They also have food for lizards, birds and wildlife. I've seen this spot whenever I go grocery shopping at Safeway and decided to give this place a shot, upon entering I asked an associate if she can guid me to the turtles and she just said there where the "reptiles are" I then asked where that was since I am new to the store she replied on the wall. I immediately devoted to leave based on her sarcastic response and demeanor. I decided to go back to Safeway and purchase my pet needs and to Petco for other needs. Super jazzed to have what appears to be a clean and responsible pet shop in Modesto. Went the day of opening and was delightfully surprised at how well staffed they were. Gal who got my fish was super knowledgeable and not a single animal in the store looked stressed in the least, especially impressive given they were all in brand new homes. My dog is on a hard to find fresh food and though they didn't have it at the moment, they knew right when they would and offered to let me know when If it was going to be delayed. Petsmarts and petcos are a festering disease pool for fish and the other Two places in Modesto always smell or have horrible hours or their fish are not well stocked. Hope that this store keeps up the great look they have going. If I had to pick one negative, their macaw and other parrots cages was on the small side, so hopefully they fix that. read more

I am editing my review. I started off with "0" stars due to the service we got at the store and how the employees behaved. We adopted a kitten, suppose to be a "female" as we requested, however we end up with a "male". The female employee lied to us (how we perceived it). I asked her a few times to confirm it's a female, she said it is. We never got the chance to even view the kitten up front due to Covid-19. She told my daughter don't open the box until she got home. I took off for the days for work in the bay. So when I finally observed the kitten upon my return from work, I realized it was a male and not female. But Despite being a male I grew attach to the kitten in a short time. A few days after adoption, I called the store & a man answered the called. I told him who I was and what happened when we adopted the kitten. First night kitten was eating and drinking, still very slow of moving around. We thought maybe it just need to get use to it's new home. Day 2, same result, little appetite but still taking in food and liquid. Day 3 and 4, not eating and barely having any energy. Kitten was bleeding thru when peeing. Kitten was limpy, no strength. Day 5, kitten passed. After I called, I was told to call the Stockton Animal Shelter for assistance. I was upset-- so I hung up and left my review. An hour or two later, Ryan (the owner of the stores) called due to my review being negative. He explained it must be a misunderstanding. To me it wasn't because as animal lovers working at a pet store you should know basic info on the animal. The employees weren't knowledgeable as I perceived. Plus withhold information about the kitten well being. My daughter found her kitten has passed & was heartbroken and crying. Ryan offer us if we like to adopt another kitten. We said yes because my daughter been asking for a kitten for a while now. Lilac was her kitten that passed. She now have Stormy which she is in love with. Beautiful kitten, very active. When my husband picked up the kitten, Stormy, he was questioned about Lilac which upset him being accused of abusing him that end in his passing. My husband has been a long time animal lover and to be accused is an insult. Hence, I would rate this store a 1 Star, but with the effort and support Ryan given us, I would rate a 4 and not 5 due to employees being rude and assumption with no care of one feelings of a loss. It might be a misunderstanding to the owner of course because it's his employees. Understand with all that going on, COVID etc-- I'll let it slide. Overall, Ryan as I take is the store owner was wonderful & tried his best to correct what happened. Other than that, be careful going into the store and who you encounter because not all of them are nice- I understand with all going on & you are blessed to have a job-- but also learn to be respectful. We are all in together trying to get thru this mess-- we love our pets and we love to foster. read more

My family lives in Escalon and it's hard to find what we need for all our animals in one place. What I like about the new carters pet mart is that I can go there and it's a one stop shop for all my animals' needs. I am able to find birdseed and toys for my birds, cat food and litter for my cats, dog food and toys for my dogs, and food for my fish! Before they opened I was going around to several different local family owned pet stores to source all the things I needed. I really don't like supporting the big pet corps like petco and pet smart. I'm glad that Carter's pets mart is now in Modesto I will be returning for all my pet needs! read more

He was very nice and understanding of our situation and was eager to make things right . I was super excited to check out this new pet store. My husband and I went this morning and there was only 1 other customer in the store. We weren't even greeted by the 2 staff members at the front. They have an awesome selection of food, toys, and supplies for your animals and reasonably priced. My main problem is when I got a feeder rat for my snake. I asked for a medium and received a small rat for starters. Then when my snake didn't eat which if you have a snake you know they can be very picky; I called Carter's to ask if I can bring the rat back. The staff said yes but I will not receive credit which makes no sense because they will resale it if I gave it back. I asked if there's anything they could do since I have no use for a feeder rat. I also explained my favorite pet store which is Pet's Choice always lets me return it with a store credit for my next purchase of a feeder rat. She put me on hold and when she got back on she said I couldn't even return the rat. I'm never going back and sticking to my family owned and operated pet store Pet's Choice!!!!!!! read more

If you want to go to a place thats ran by high school kids and people who have very poor customer service, look no further! From waiting for your feeders to having to wait for people to help you with live animals they have all the annoyances your heart could possibly desire. Dont forget a falsified return policy that they dont uphold on their end AT ALL! If you can avoid this place for purchases, I would recommend it. read more
