I came in looking for a betta fish. I decided to get one. I was looking for the Imagitarium plastic cylinder tank. I saw on the app that it was available for pick up. I ask the girl with the red hair at the register if they had any in the back. She was very nice about it. She called her coworker, Lucia, to aquatics so she can check if they have it in the back. When Lucia came, she was rude and did not help. She did not bother checking on her device and just said if there isn't any on the shelf, there isn't any in the back and people steal here all the time. That's a very poor excuse and she was just being lazy to not check. read more

She was so compassionate, kind and you could tell she was so sincere about what she was saying. She went above and beyond helping me with several different avenues on how to help our cat. I have been here before for grooming & and I liked it, but now, some new staff that are here, were so very rude to me, I will never go back! I had an appointment for 2 dogs on a Friday. As soon as I walked in, the groomer said, "You are early, don't come back until 1:30, that is your appointment time. So, I took my dogs for a walk for 15 minutes. When I came back,the dog groomer acted like she was not happy! It was plain to see she did not want to be at work. She told me she could only take 1 dog. I told her my appointment was already confirmed a week ago, but she still refused. There is more, but I will just stop here and say, good luck if u choose to go here. They make you and yr dogs feel very uncomfortable! They make you feel like you are not wanted here, no thank you. read more

If I could I would give Petco Zero 0 Stars...The other day I went to Petco to go purchase FELIWAY CLASSIC" diffuser for my pets, well I purchased it they recommended it today Sunday I took it back why well let's just say my cats became sick it says on the "FELIWAY CLASSIC" calming and comfort, No it's not, it makes the cats irritable it makes the cat more obnoxious and out of control! I called Petco to speak to the manager all she had to tell me was for me to call the company on a Sunday while they're closed cuz I did call, she told me to call the vet I'm not going to spend outrageous money when my cat is laying here having seizures convulsions and dying and I told this to the manager at Petco, she did not care. Petco is very rude. you sell an item, my cat is dying literally! As soon as I got off the phone not even 5 minutes my cat died! , from this item, my cat was healthy nothing was wrong with him, I plugged in this FELIWAY CLASSIC diffuser, all my cats started getting sick. I had to air out my unit in this freezing cold weather to try to get my cats, to get back to normal it did no good now, I'm trying to save my cats, my cats are not just pets, they are part of my family! FELIWAY CLASSIC diffuser, killed MY FAMILY member and my family member saved My Life 2 years ago when I had a heart attack, yes I am upset! I took my girlfriends teacup yorkie over there to get a little haircut and they absolutely butchered him. I showed pictures of what we wanted done to him and they completely cut all of his hair off. They left the tail and face unshaved and uneven. If this is the type of groomers they decide to hire they should just close down. Beware this is the worst Pet store that I've ever been to. I just spent over $350 in the last six months came into the store because I'm converting one of my old tanks to an African tank. This store by the way only had 2 African fish in stock for 3 month and counting. if you know what you want, you might be OK. Need to get some advice "you are throw money to wind." So now I'm in the store then I asked what proper PH should be for the African fish store attendant confidently walk me over 7.0 PH product. She didn't explain to me that this is for a specific type of African and not all Africans as the manager suggested the other pet store I went to is adamant that 7.0 PH will kill your African fish. If you Google it, it's gonna tell you 8.0 - 8.2 PH. So with that said I went out and bought about $60 worth of fish wound up died due to the fact that the information I received from the store was incorrect. When I talk to the manager about this, he tried to tell me I misheard what I heard from the representative days prior when he wasn't even present. Then he went on to claim in their tanks are at 7.0 PH so this is what she meant to express to me as if I heard it wrong. The manager at this time tells me we don't have a way of given you anything back. No gift cards for store credit nothing. I'm going to offer you a discount towards your next purchase in our store as if I'm going to come back and spend more money in order to receive some type of compensation indirectly and you're giving me no resolution or consideration. read more

If I could I would give it a 0 star, the cashier up front with BLONDE HAIR & GLASSES height is about 5"6 age maybe 25, was VERT RUDE my sister was buying a Beta fish and all the tank,food and other supplies she needed for it keep in mind she's has experience with having multiple different types of fishes for years so she knows what she's doing and a fish has never died on her,the cashier at first recommended us to buy water conditioner for the tank,this allows for the fish to be put in new water right away so we kindly told her no thank you we don't need it after that she makes an ugly face at us and says that we have to purchase it,again we respectfully told her no we know what we're doing we have many years of fish experience then she starts arguing with us demanding that we buy the water conditioner and accusing us that we are going to neglect the fish and telling us that we are going to keep the Beta fish in the little cup it comes in when u purchase the fish. My dog is 4 years old and had her first ever groomer experience today. She has had a hell of a year in and out of the vet and has become very anxious going into places where she thinks they're going to hurt her. We did a walk in nail trim and Kayla was wonderful. She was super calming and helpful. My dog hates getting her nails cut, something that's only recently become an issue. We have to fight with her to even attempt it with no success. I finally gave in and brought her here just to see if someone else would be able to get it done. And to my surprise, she did 10x better with the girls than with my husband and I. They made it quick, easy, and painless for her. Of course, she fought them a little bit, but she did great overall. I loved that Kayla and the other woman talked her through it. Thanks Update: I returned today, 1/27/20 and Kayla was not there but Rachel did her nails and she was excellent! I can tell my dog is starting to get more comfortable. I have been a loyal Petco Customer in Modesto for many years, but unfortunately I no longer will support the Modesto Petco location due to disappointment with my experience in the Petco Grooming department. My dog had an appointment at 10:30 am appointment. I was asked to wait out in the rain with my dog rather than the waiting room. When I was called back in and asked what kind of haircut I wanted, I told the groomer (did not get her name) that I wanted the same haircut I always get based on his notes and explained it to her. She then proceeded to smirk judgmentally at my choices and ignored my request without responding, then proceeded to take my dog. She felt my dog's body feeling for any abnormalities, putting her face in my dog's face (without him having met her before) as she was feeling him up, and my dog immediately started shaking. She took him back as though she was going to let him have his appointment, then asked more health questions and decided that under new management she didn't want to take him in for his appointment after all (his health issues are all the same as before). This appointment ended up being a waste of a drive and time, a morning spent out in the rain with my wet dog that they refused to groom, and I left feeling ridiculed about the haircut all other Petco groomers had helped me out with in so many years previously. This happened on May 4, 2024, and I noticed another customer had a similar bad experience on the SAME day at the SAME location. I would not return to this location for grooming under any circumstances, and now feel doubtful about all of Petco's locations. I would not recommend Petco grooming services to any of my friends or family members' pets after having this experience, when prior, I always had positive things to say. I did not feel safe, cared for, or respected at the Modesto Petco location. read more

If I could I would do ZERO stars. Please don't go there and avoid a situation like mMy dog went home with an injured eye and bleeding paws. I called them to find out what happened and his groomer, Kayla, was on lunch. I left a voicemail for the manager Jennifer, and she didn't return the call promptly. I called her back 3 hours later to check if she received the voicemail and she said she had, so at that point I wondered why she wouldn't call ASAP, and why did I had to call her back considering the situation. This showed a lack of interest for their customers. When I spoke to her she used a snarky tone with me as she said she had me in camera walking out with him on the leash after I had told her I walked carried him to the car. Every-time I take him I let him walk out Incase he needs to urinate after being Kenneled during grooming. Upon seeing he was uninterested I picked him up and continued to the car. Considering her position as a manager she should have been more professional in trying to disprove the information that I was giving her. In addition, she didn't offer me a refund or ask how they could make things right. I had to initiate the conversation of how how we were going to handle things moving forward with the situation as clearly it was not okay. I finally just asked for a refund and I feel like that was her job because clearly I was extremely dissatisfied with the service. They did notify that there was no blood in the kennel or the floor. However, there was light smears of blood on the receipt and on my jeans before he even got out of the car. So, if they say it didn't happen inside, (which I am sure it was due to filing his nails too much) then they must have the manager sweep the outside cemented area to ensure there are no hazardous materials to keep their customers safe. I did emphasize that the bleeding was light, and it wasn't noticed right away because I noticed his eye first. I had to take my dog to the vet as a result and he gave him antibiotics and pain meds for the eye trauma. I had switched to Petco not long ago, and I was satisfied with their service, but I will never go back to Petco again. They lack customer service skills and professionalism. I'am still waiting to hear from them about covering my vet bill. This continues to show their lack of professionalism and customer service and communication. -----------Follow up-------- I am pretty pleased to announce that, Jason, the actual store manager called me on Monday, and fully refunded me the cost of the Vet bill. The way it was handled when it first occurred was completely inappropriate and showed a lack of professionalism, but they made amends by covering the total medical costs and providing me with a full refund. Thank you, Jason, for showing concern in regards to Rocky and handling the Vet bill refund. read more

I've been to other Petcos and been happy with grooming but in Modesto, they simply didn't follow directions. My dogs hair is waaaay shorter than I asked and they gave her the weirdest teddy bear face I've ever seen. It's way longer than the rest of her cut. Im seriously thinking about trying to fix it myself! It's uneven in different places. I'm not a difficult person to please when it comes to grooming. I've never been this unhappy with a cut. I filled out a survey asking petco to fix the cut. I asked to be called (and specifically said that I wouldn't be available on Saturdays) . I got a call back on Saturday anyhow. I was not able to answer and struggled to get back in contact with the person who called me. Turns out she doesn't work there anymore. Every time my dog comes out from the groomers he always very well cleaned. Oreo comes out looking really clean and smelling very good. Nails always cut to the right size and paying extra for the shed release was worth it because he drops way less fur. He always comes home as a brand new clean dog. I'd give them a 2.5. I brought my dog to be groomed here since my regular groomer was unavailable. I thought they would do a good job. They have friendly staff but when I picked up my poor boy he was unrecognizable. He usually stays on the fluffy side. And when I get him groomed, the groomer usually leaves hair on him. But with Petco, he looks shaved with very little hair left. On the flip side, his hair will take awhile to grow back and I won't have to groom him again for another couple of months. The vet was really rough with my puppy when he gave her her shots and he did NOT check her vitals or weight. THEY ESTIMATED EVERYTHING. This review is for grooming: Brought my golden retriever in to be washed he was DIRTY after spending a week on a farm while I was out of town. I asked for him to be washed and to baby trim him to remove a little matting from behind his ears... The person grooming him was nice... Asked if I wanted him shaved--I responded with "No--just clean him up" Came to pick him up--he was completely butchered!!! His feathers underneath his body had been hacked off--his stomach and dick had been shaved? Anyone ever seen a golden retriever groomed with a shaved stomach before?? Needless to say--I am completely sick that I brought him here and spent 70.00 I should have just waited until he could see his usual groomer. I complained to the manager who looked at him and then gave me some coupons incase I want to give them another shot. NOPE. Clean store, helpful people. My issue is that sometimes they'll have products sometimes they won't. An example I needed kitten formula for orphaned outdoor kitties, and they had it the first time I went but not the second. Their prices for food, at least the higher quality pet food is pretty average. I wanted to take advantage of their deals for new puppies, but with covid I didn't get a chance to. I brought my dog to this location by accident today, my appointment was supposed to be in riverside. Ericka noticed the error and let me know, then without hesitating she said she could still take in my dog. My dog is a handful when I take her in. Ericka was able to handle my dog with the most patience and care. She left my dog happy, smelling wonderful, and her nails looked great! I am so disappointed with their grooming service. I had an issue before when they cut my dog's hair too short because they didn't listen to my instruction. Although they gave me a refund so everything was good but since then went to PetSmart every week instead for my dog's grooming. Until last week I realized I am still paying the Petco Vital Care so I told my wife we should go back to petco so we don't waste our subscription. Lo and behold they did the same thing to my dog again. It's worse because they shave the whole hair on his entire body except for the head part and tail. They told me that it was needed because he has some matting on his ears and behind his legs. They explained it to me that they need to do #10 cut. I was hesitant so I asked if they could do# 7 but they said it has to be #10. I was so shocked when I saw the outcome. It's not even #10. I think it's 15 if they have that scale! My eyelashes ate even longer than my dog's fur.!! You can see the skin!!! Even my 4yrs old son got scared of my dog. The most disappointing part is that when people from Petsmart saw my dog they were shocked and told me my dog doesn't need to be shave because he's body is not matted. He is being groomed every week!!! So heartbreaking. I just found out that the same girl that I complaint before was the one who shave my dog's fur again!!! Talk about retaliation!!!! Not happy! Been coming here for my new dog. They have been so nice and helpful! There is such a friendly guy at the register I wish I knew his name but he's so helpful and nice. My girl had her first bath today here and Tina did a great job! She seemed excited to see our dog and did exactly what we needed. She looks bright and feels so soft. I don't know what happened with my order but there were people that got in line after five min, mind you we stayed close to the register so I can see the cricket being brought up. They got their crickets. I get in line thinking I didn't see mine get brought up. I'm at the register and there's no crickets. Instead of admitting their mistakes, I get excuses from the associate "they were there first, they asked," I'm not sure if race had anything to do with it or even just a mistake but don't give me excuses. I never regard race into factor but the way I was treated even by the manager was inexcusable over crickets. Just admit that you made a mistake rather than providing excuses. No one is perfect. Me and my boyfriend have been here multiple times to buy stuff for our pet and they are always asking for donations or for us to sign up. Most of the time we do not donate, but we have noticed that on the card machine that when it asks us about donating it will disappear before we say no. Then when we look at our receipt that I will have the donation on there. This last time my boyfriend went in he saw it happened but noticed her typing. He looked at his receipt in line and confronted her, she did give a refund so that's why I am not naming names. Just always look at your receipt because that is so shady.
