The first died within three days and the second died in less than 24 hours after bringing it home. Concerned about what happened, we took the second bird to a licensed veterinarian, who informed us the bird showed signs of neurological issues and likely had underlying health problems before it was sold. This strongly suggests the birds may have already been sick at the time of sale. Two birds dying this quickly raises serious concerns about the health and welfare of animals being sold. We hope the store takes this situation seriously and reviews their animal health screening and sourcing practices so other families do not go through the same experience.

We were greeted by a very nice guy (I'm so sorry I'm bad with remembering names). He was so knowledgeable and very kind! He introduced us to a gorgeous 3 yr old Moluccan cockatoo named Rosie. He told us everything about her, including her recent veterinary visit. We could genuinely tell he loves his birds. Rosie was the sweetest and most tame bird I've ever met. She talks, dances and we could tell she was given so much attention! Not once did we feel any pressure to buy Rosie, quite the opposite I'd say. We could tell he had so much love for her and would be sad to see her go. Nonetheless, we fell in love with her and bought her. He gave us all of the information we needed to care for her. He made sure that her wings were clipped, as per our request, and he even trimmed her toenails. There was also a very sweet girl working there as well, who was very sad to see her go, and made the comment that she is glad that Rosie is going to a good home, because she deserves it. Which made us feel incredibly grateful. I can't thank you guys enough for Rosie. She is a true blessing to our family. It's been 24 hours and she is already comfortable, even cuddling and bonding with my husband! I would never purchase another bird anywhere else. Tl;dr: Their return policy is deceptive and only explained on the receipt, and they refuse to take care of their customers. I bought a $20 electric heater for my kid's beta that was recommended to me by them, and even on the lowest setting, it was too hot for the fish and almost killed it. I came on day 10 of the 14 day return policy to get my money back, and they told me that they can't return electronics. I asked about the 14 day policy, and they said it doesn't apply to electronics. When I told them that I was never informed of the policy before buying it, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it in the first place, they didn't care and said it's on the receipt. ...You know, the ONLY place where this policy is posted to customers. The one you can only know about AFTER you buy something. It's aparently too "redundant" to state the policy that you can't return the product you're about to buy prior to buying the product. That policy. I asked if I could get store credit or replace it with one that works, and they refused. I was told I can contact the manufacturer to get a replacement heater. Everyone knows that the obvious choice a business should make when dealing with returns is to say "Nope. Not my problem." It's best business practice. Duh. On Monday (today), I went to to talk to the owner about the situation. He stood by his associates and said it's the responsibility of the customer to ask about the return policy, and did not understand why the policy would be unclear if the first time the return policy was explained was after it was purchased. He also seemed to not understand the difference between a warranty and a return policy, and was comfortable keeping the communication about their return policy solely on the receipt. He also didn't think he should go about and explain the warrant on any product you buy with him. When I told him I wouldn't be returning, he still didn't seem to grasp the problem of what happened. I want to support small, local businesses, but this place isn't worth it. They're happy to take your money, but then refuse to actually do any proper customer service when issues arise.

They have an awesome selection of dog treats/food. The dog food is located in a separate section of the store - hard right when you enter & through another doorway. What keeps me coming back is the staff. On one visit, a cashier let me know a brand I'd been buying had gone downhill in quality and handed me samples of her top picks. That kind of honest, helpful advice is hard to find. The checkout area also tends to have timely impulse buys (hello, 4th of July calming chews) that actually come in handy. Great neighborhood pet shop with knowledgeable staff. Highly recommend!

Rachael and David, who I believe may be the owners, or at the very least managers (along with their staff), are always friendly, inviting and extremely knowledgeable about animals and what food, or toys may be best for your pet based on your circumstances. They are always inviting and willing to help. I have also found that the pet food products they carry are typically healthier for your pet, more so than you may find at the big chains and box stores. The quality and price points of the pet food are fair and they often times have promotions and discounts. Many of the promotions are buy 12 and get your next one free (ie; bag or case of food etc.). Also, on weekends they have vaccination clinics and sometimes adoption events. They even have a dog wash inside. Check with the store to find out when and how often the Vaccine clinics, pet adoptions and dog wash is available. This place is located in Modesto, in a shopping center that looks like an old western town (corner of Tully and Standiford). Bottom line, I am glad to have found a personable store for all my pets' needs and to be able to help support a local small business.

For the umpteenth tome I've had to fill out the same paperwork and asked if she had her vacancies. Mind you she goes on a regular basis, like don't you guys keep records? I've been to several groomers in the area and never had to do this at every appointment. Cookie was chewing at her leash the last time she was there she chewed through her leather leash, she never does this when she goes to Dr. Santo's. This is very telling that something is not right with their groomers, because she's never behaved this way at the others. I would not take your fur babies there. They definitely need serious improvement there, before a pet is hurt.

I ask the girl with the red hair at the register if they had any in the back. She was very nice about it. She called her coworker, Lucia, to aquatics so she can check if they have it in the back. When Lucia came, she was rude and did not help. She did not bother checking on her device and just said if there isn't any on the shelf, there isn't any in the back and people steal here all the time. That's a very poor excuse and she was just being lazy to not check.
