My husband and I came in simply because it was time for our checkups, and the whole experience exceeded our expectations. We went in thinking we might need contacts, but thankfully we're at a level where they weren't necessary (yay!). The exam itself was thorough, efficient, and surprisingly easy. Even the dreaded air test for glaucoma, which I usually hate, was quick and painless. The paperwork was clear and easy to complete, which was such a relief compared to other offices where forms feel overwhelming or confusing (almost punitive LOL). I also loved the office ydecor. It's full of travel souvenirs and sports memorabilia, which gives the space so much personality and warmth. I really appreciate offices that feel personal and welcoming rather than cold or sterile. Dr. Au is truly exceptional. He's patient, funny, and genuinely caring. What really stood out to me was that he took the time to get to know us: our lifestyle, habits, and reasons for coming in, and offered personalized advice that actually felt doable. I wasn't aware that a contact visit was separate because my eye doctor in CT always did both at my yearly visit. When I came in I had my eye exam and ordered my box of contacts. Then I came back in March for my regular yearly exam. Before I came in I received many messages telling me to wear my contacts at the visit. I thought why should I? I already had my eyes checked for contacts. When Alexander came in the exam room there were no pleasantries and she just immediately sat down and started asking me how my vision was and she put the letters on the wall. She changed the letters and each time I could not see them at all. I immediately panicked because I couldn't see anything and she had flipped the letters many times. I thought I drove here and could see fine and I was sitting in the lobby reading on my phone just fine. I didn't know what was wrong with me that I couldn't see. When I asked questions, but she didn't answer she just kept on with her test. When she was done she said I had a different prescription in both eyes and that I would need two new different boxes of contacts. She had me take out my new contacts I had just worn to the office and throw them away. I refused to do that so she gave me a case to put them in and I put her contacts in she was prescribing me. I told her they were uncomfortable. She wanted me to try them for a few days and let her know as soon as possible if I liked them so I could bring my other prescription contacts in. She then took me out to the front to place an order with the tech. Mean while as I'm trying to keep up with her I'm thinking wait a minute when am I going to be checked for glasses? I wanted to use my insurance for glasses. I tried to ask her but she went back in the technician office and she said she would be back. I hoped then I would get a chance to say I want to use my insurance for my new prescription for lenses. I didn't even want to change my frames because she doesn't have a good selection or very many choices of glasses for women. The glasses selection cater more to men. The tech came out and I asked her if the doctor was coming out and she told me no and that she was seeing her next patient. Alexander told me she would be right back. The tech started talking to me about the contacts and placing my order. I was very confused and frustrated and I told the tech I feel very scammed. I told her I had just come in the office and had my eyes checked in December how is it my eyes dramatically changed in a few months and now I'm going to need two new boxes(a different prescription for each eye), which is going to cost me even more money and these are not the same brand and they probably cost more because they were a contact that dealt with stigmatism and bifocals. I told the tech I didn't come in to have my eyes check for contacts. She said well it's because it says in your records that I complained that I should have had my eyes checked for contacts during my yearly visit. I had that conversation on the phone with the receptionist and she explained that they are separate visits. I understood once she explained it but clearly I was being punished and scammed at my yearly visit. I told the tech right then that I felt scammed and that I didn't want to order the new contacts and that I would stay with the contacts that I just received in January. I was happy with them and I wanted to use my insurance for new lenses in my present frames. The tech said she would report my feeling scammed and how I was treated by Alexander to the office manager. I thought to myself what for? She works for her what is she going to do. Once I got my glasses I requested my records so I could go else where. The receptionist told me that she would let Alexander know. I said ok but why can't I just come in and pick up my records. She told me that Alexander needed to look over them and clean them up. I found that very suspicious. Why do they need to be cleaned up. I asked for the last 3 visits and it took 5 days to get them. I went in and picked them up and left. When I got home I looked at them and saw that my December visit was not included. I went back the next business day and requested my records for that visit. They then had to get permission. I told them I wanted the records for the visit but they asked me did I want my contact prescription. I said well yes I want that included but that I wanted all the information on that visit like what I had been given for my other visits and I showed them the records that I had been given. After they talked to Alexander I was only given my contact prescription and not the test records of that visit broken down. How convenient that I wasn't given those records to compare my December visit with my March visit. Very Calculating!

I am trying a new optometrist next month when my insurance is available for full exam etc. My latest glasses are horrible. Spent so much money. The anti reflection is expensive yet it doesn't look like I have it. In pictures, I look horrible. Can't see my eyes. The new doctor I got was nice but probably examined me wrong. My glasses are hard to use. The countertops and tables look curved. Also she told me the price for a contact lens exam and gave me the wrong price. If I would have known I would have said nevermind I will live without new contacts. I paid so much money for a horrible product. I told the staff and they didn't care. I was forced to pay even though she made an error and saw the wrong price. I cried and cried in my car. Melody called me and probably realized I was upset and she tried her best to make me happy and I agreed with her offer and that was that. But for the past year, I've been wearing my old prescription glasses because the new ones are simply hard to use. Plus I spent so much money on new frames and new contact lens exam that I didn't have enough money left over for new sunglasses so I've been using my sunglasses from two prescriptions ago and now I fell while running and they scratched up so I am forced to replace everything. Regarding Misrepresentation of Quoted Price and Poor Customer Service…read moreI recently to purchase a new pair of glasses. I want to begin by saying that the young sales associate who originally assisted me was extremely pleasant, professional, and helpful. I clearly explained to her that I was comparison shopping and that I needed an exact out-the-door price, including everything associated with my purchase, including the eye examination. I specifically emphasized this because I did not want to arrive for my appointment and discover additional charges that were not included in the price I had been quoted. She prepared a quotation for me, and based on that quotation and our conversation, I scheduled an appointment for the following day. She also told me that if I had any questions when I returned, I could speak with the manager, Todd. When I arrived for my appointment, the associate assisting me had difficulty locating the quotation but eventually found it. I was then informed that the $80 eye examination fee had not been included in the quotation. I immediately explained that this was not what I had discussed with the original associate. I had specifically asked for the complete out-the-door price because I was comparing prices with other optical providers. Yes, the associate had mentioned that an eye examination normally costs $80, and I acknowledged that. However, I specifically instructed her that the quotation needed to include everything, including the examination, so that I could make an accurate comparison. At that point, I asked to speak with the manager, Todd. Unfortunately, what should have been a simple customer-service issue became a very unpleasant experience. Rather than attempting to understand the situation or find a reasonable solution, Todd became argumentative and repeatedly went back and forth with me about what had been said. The important point is this: Todd was not present at the desk during my original conversation with the sales associate. He therefore did not personally hear the entire conversation between us. I was not attempting to argue with anyone. I was simply explaining what I had been told and what I had specifically requested. If the sales associate made an error when entering the quotation, that was not something I should have been expected to pay for after I had clearly requested an all-inclusive price. What disappointed me even more was the complete lack of an effort to resolve the matter. There was an obvious opportunity for management to say something as simple as, "I understand what happened. Let's see what we can do to make this right." Even a reasonable compromise or discount could have resolved the situation. Instead, I left the store feeling that my concerns were simply being dismissed. My wife and I have purchased glasses from America's Best in the past, and we have had absolutely no problems with the company previously. That is why this experience was particularly disappointing. Ultimately, I walked out of the store without purchasing the glasses and without even proceeding with the eye examination. I had no reason to pay for an examination that I would not be using to purchase the glasses I had come there for. And all of this happened over an $80 discrepancy that could have been resolved with reasonable customer service. From a business standpoint, I believe this is the part America's Best should be most concerned about: You did not lose an $80 sale. You potentially lost a longtime customer over an $80 dispute. I am asking America's Best Corporate Customer Relations to please review this incident, including the quotation that was prepared for me and the manner in which my complaint was handled by the store manager. I am not writing this letter simply because I was unhappy about an additional $80 charge. I am writing because I believe customers should be able to rely on the prices they are quoted, particularly when they specifically ask for an out-the-door price, and because customers who raise legitimate concerns should be treated respectfully and given a genuine attempt at resolution. I would appreciate a written response from America's Best regarding this matter and an explanation of how the company believes this situation should have been handled. I sincerely hope America's Best takes this complaint seriously. I would much rather resolve this professionally than simply walk away from a company that my wife and I have previously done business with. Thank you for your time and attention.
