Terrible, 0 stars. They only have one main fiber cable supporting their entire network, so the connection goes down all the time, sometimes for multiple days at a time, but they keep raising the price. You can find much faster & more reliable plans for less money at any other provider. Customer service is also useless, took me 4 calls and a new modem (which they made me pay for) to diagnose an issue with a cable. Also when I first set up the connection they lost my invoice and just completely forgot about my installation date, leaving me without internet for a week while they fixed it on their end. I've been using Carrytel the past 2 years and I've had multiple problems with their service. Firstly, the connection you will have will always be lower than what advertised. I had a 50mbps download service but it wasn't much higher than 10mbps on a daily basis, which is very frustrating. Why pay the 50mbps service at 60$ if it's to have one at 10mpbs which in reality would cost much less. The connection crashed multiple times, you would think that being in the city the internet bandwidth would stay high but it feels like they limit your connection. You really can't count on your connection to work, study or even watch netflix or youtube. Forget about watching live stream. And when you call to get help from them, their tips work but they don't last more than a few hours. Secondly, when you cancel the service, you need to send the router back to them if you want to be reimbursed your 50$ deposit on it, but you'll have to pay for the shipping (around 15$), cause they won't give you any return etiquette to put on the box. So they are pretty greedy, all they seem to want is money, they don't really care about the costumers. Don't waste your time or your money ! read more

Let me say that again- 12 hours ago, and CarryTel did not even address the problem until 4 hours later. THEN, they proceed to go silent on Twitter not even giving an ETA! Absolutely tragic, especially since this happened sunday night and we have no idea when the connections is coming back up, with no idea if we can connect for online classes/work/meetings. This has been the worst string of customer service experiences I've had. I see they have someone trying to discredit negative reviews and so I'll be as specific as possible to clarify why I believe this to be an unethical business rife with bottom-feeding practices. 1- We rent a modem from them, which stopped working within a couple months. Their customer service is only open during the week and for limited hours, and we had already lost work hours because of this. They told is that they would send us a new modem in 5 days. Fortunately, we were able to borrow one from a friend to bridge the gap. However, we then learned that Carrytel wouldn't restart your internet until we paid them a fee. 2- After a week, we hadn't yet received our modem. We suddenly received a call from them this morning telling us about we'll have to return our modem within 30 days and that WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY SHIPPING FOR THEIR DEFECTIVE MODEM Between the frustration of long gaps in service (while working from home) due to their defective modem, and their total lack of ownership over that issue, I am very skeptical about continuing on with Carrytel. I would pay more to a provider for decent customer service. This type of gouging can be indicative of an unscrupulous business. Their customer service staff have been short and unhelpful when we've called, and this was even before we took issue with their business practices. My wife, Tracy Burleigh, and I had this service for a few years hoping it would improve. I don't usually write bad reviews but want to warn people what they are getting into with Carrytel. I switched to their service because the price was well below the other large ISP's. I had Carrytel on my speed dial after numerous calls to them regarding the internet freezing or dropping on random devices in the house. Online gaming of any kind was out of the question. Eventually I offered to PAY to replace the old/used crappy modem that they provided me. The new modem that I bought was the same old/used POS. This improved the quality of service somewhat, but still very low speeds for the 150mbsp I was paying for. I also had tv service from them. The box they sent was faulty and they did replace it at no charge. The new box worked but the picture would pixelate every couple minutes and sports were horrible. Every time I called about the problem they would say we are aware on the problem which the everyone is having and they are working on a fix for it. We had the service for over a year, and it never got any better! Good thing we didn't watch much tv. The only thing I can say that is positive about the company is that they have people to answer the phone. They try hard to resolve the issues for you, but they can't due to the old/used equipment that Carrytel makes all their clients use. I would stay well clear of this company. Cheers! read more

They lied about the initial charges, didnt tell us about the deposit, sent the modem to the wrong post office, and are now making me return the modem so I can get a refund, and I have to pay to return the modem and I don't have 10$. If I could give -0, I would. First time new customer- initial sign up they quickly grabbed the modem and router money from my CC and the 1st month of internet service- it took 2.5 weeks to even get it installed- which is just waiting for someone to turn on a switch. Now, within a 7 day cancellation policy for new customers, I am cancelling, but this is not easy. They billed me again for the same month, I paid for in advance and upon calling to assess why this is happening, I get a shoddy hard to hear breaking up connection with a service agent obviously not in North America, I live Alberta Canada. This woman was extremely combative, trying to tel me that I wasn't being billed 2x for the same period, when clearly I am. I told her I want it CANCELLED, 5 times, which she argued with me about and it's 4 days into the 7 day period of getting this crap company connected. She called me rude and told me to calm down! Given I couldn't understand but every 5th word as the connection was so bad- she told me she could hear me- but continued to argue I wasn't being billed twice- even though I barley made out what she was saying, I have the invoice to prove they're billing me for the 1st month again. I'm sending back their gear tomorrow and of course they make it at the customer's expense, unlike reputable companies, that send you a label and you send their gear back, but I'll gladly pay this postage and cross my fingers they refund the money they swoop in quickly to grab. Carrytel has been the worst internet provider we have ever had. During the pandemic, we spent an entire week without internet. They claimed to have sent technicians but nothing was resolved. They shipped a new modem and then attempted to charge us even though it did not fix the problem. When internet access resumed, they are still unable to tell us what the problem was to ensure this does not happen again. The connection continues to drop multiple times throughout the day. Don't bother trying to call customer service as it will take a solid hour to reach someone. If I could give lower than a 1 star review I would. read more

Worst company ever - Tried to setup up Internet Cable 75 for dad Manuel Tavares and received window for activation from 8-11am. 11am passes - no service active, call in & told will be active at 1pm, 1pm passes, no service active, called in at 3pm and asked what happened - nobody knows?? Got passed arround 3 times, told it will be activated remotely and will be active anytime today maybe? I wasted my whole day waiting around to setup a wireless router for parents after it would be active - could have been told upfront instead of being given a time window that they don't honour. Now they call me (5:30pm) to tell me the the phone number porting has been rejected for Voip Plan that was also registered for - probably because internet access not setup - no timeframe or solution provided - Note: everything has been paid for upfront including 1 month service of Internet and Voip - they can barely speak english - Unbelievable read more

Buyer beware, while the lower rate plans may seem appealing, the company will get their money back from its shady practice. Please read the reviews and all their fine print before deciding for yourself. Carrytel will increase rates yearly, sometimes multiple times a year - usually after Black Friday / Holiday deals in the hopes to retain customers for another year as they've missed the promotion/opportunity to switch to another provider. Pay close attention to your invoices as they will make changes here with no other notice. Opt to make payments yourself and stay on top of it, do not give them your bank or card info for automatic withdrawals. While they may offer a free modem rental, they will ask for a deposit and in the long run, ask you to forfeit the deposit to buy the modem or incur new charges for the modem rental. Note that if you have any issues with their refurbished devices, you will have to pay for shipping there and back or drop off and pick up and only be given a one-time replacement before being warned about a purchase for additional replacements. I have cancelled my plan with Carrytel now and am glad to be out. I have had Internet and phone service with the company for about 3 years and overall the service was okay, however, there will be a handful of outages and intermittent issues throughout the year. The fact that the company does not care about retaining customers or loyal customers rubbed the wrong way with me. The last bullet that did it for me was during cancellation when I had to return the phone modem. This was a working phone modem and I've never had any issues with the phone modem since I've had it. When I returned this modem - hand-delivered to their office - I was naive not thinking to have it tested in front of me. Needless to say shortly after drop off I get an email indicating that the device is defective and that I would be charged for it. I've called to complain, requested a retest, and that the device be given back to me now that I've bought it - crickets, no callback. It was coincidental that the device was defective when they received it just as coincidental as their templatized emails when they request charges that say "Dear customer, Dear customer," (yes, it is written twice). Initially, in 2018, I thought I was lucky having the service and rate I had with Carrytel. Flash forward 3 years later, my bill increased 54% - not inexpensive anymore and the service goes down daily, sometimes for days and the company offers no compensation for the interruptions. I finally had enough after the recent increase and increasing frequency of interruption and cancelled Service. Canceling the service proved to be the icing on the cake as they kept saying the same things over and over no matter how many times I said I'm not interested and wanted to cancel. Then, put me on hold - I waited 20 minutes before hanging up. I called back during the day and spoke to som more professional and got my service canceled - or so I thought. I received an invoice for the following month and as recently as 2 days before my cancelation, another reminder to update my payment method as I stopped payments. I called them to get my disconnection request number, a 9 digit number beginning with "1" given by Rogers confirming cancelation. As well, a 9 digit confirmationnumberfrom Carrytel. (you should do this if you are going to cancel). Really slimy company. If you have vulnerable family or friends wanting to cancel, please get these cancelation request numbers from them AND confirmation emails! I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and discovered these tactics are being used on others. read more

Updated Review I would have made this a 5 star, ecept for the hardware and customer service, the actual service is Great, Speed and reliability here in Cambridge, But the Modem, SUCKS, I pay a monthly fee to reset at least 4-6 times a day, I am in an apartment, and no other carrier issues, so I call them, another thing you should know prior to using Carry, the Hours of Tech Support SUCK, when your signal gos down, thats it after 5, you are down! very poor hours, and i had to go through multi individuals till i got someone I could Understand, the language skill in English were so Bad. it made the experience problematic for a blind person. after multiple calls with the new modern they sent not working, they told my Rodgers would fix the line remotely, that night and they would call, Guess what, they did not, because they were not there!, So here I am, Day two, on the way to a Doctors ina city 45 minutes away, and by the time they open I will be gone, and when I get back they will be closed, so I will be into Day Three, with No service that I paid for.............LoL if you have to Use Carey, bring or buy your own comparable Modem, and keep your fingers crossed that it never goes out after bankers Hours. If you want a cheap internet service, this one is for you. When I mean cheap is low price but also low Quality, and so so customer support. I initially signed up in 2018 and stayed for a year. They offered at that time an unbeatable deal. I stayed for a year. 80% of the time the service was per description (that is why I didn't give them one star) but the remaining 20%... I had multiple tickets for no service ranging from hours to a few days. Last straw was when I was without internet for more than 10 days, and all I got, "we are working on it" Obviously I had to switch. I got another provider with excellent service, but in time, prices went up too much and tried to find something more reasonable. I didn't learn my lesson and went back to Carrytel for same reason, great price deal. I thought they got better and gave them another chance. Signed up for a 6 month contract, thinking nothing could go wrong. I found soon connection dropping from 2 to 15 min, few times a day. After a few tickets with debugging and trying different things they say the modem is the problem because is dropping WIFI. I bought the modem with WIFI capability from Carrytel, thinking is suitable for their service. So after doing several attempts with different settings on the modem, the conclusion was Carrytel provide me with a good service, but in order to have my devices be on internet, either I hook them to the modem, or spend a considerable amount of money on a good router. As connecting all WIFI devices with ethernet cable to modem was not a realistic choice, and spending extra money on a router, beside is no guarantee will work (on my first period with carrytel, I had a modem + separate router, and after changing the modem two times still had problem with connections dropping), the deal is not the same as they advertise in promotion. They did not agree is any of their problem I cannot connect 4-5 devices with the service and equipment they provided. Because I cannot use such service, I have to cancel their service. No matter I cancelled for their issues, they charged as a penalty "installation fee" $77. For 2.5 months usage, got 3 months bill, a penalty, and stuck with an useless modem, which I paid full price + $35 shipping. I am for saving money, but if you are not eager to deal with low quality service, stay away from Carrytel. I definitely learned my lesson this time. read more

My internet has been freezing and shutting down for weeks spoke to someone 4 days ago and after a reset it worked ok for a few hrs but back to freezing and shutting down. Called back the next day and was told a Bell technician would contact me within 48hrs. He called same night but was so freaking rude and disrespectful, and hung up on me as I was asking him a question (he repeatedly ignored 3 of my questions) and became annoyed when I asked if he could hear me properly because he wouldn't answer me. He said Carrytel needs to change my motem and there's nothing he can do. Tried to call back Bell to file a complaint against him but was told only Carrytel can. Was supposed to get a follow-up call back from Carrytel agent but 2 day's later & still no call. Still having issues but there's no customer service after 7pm. There is no recourse to speak with anyone in charge, they will just keep telling you that you can fill out a complaint email, which I did, but nobody followed up on it. If I could rate them 1/2 star I would. Here is the deal I have dealt with Teksaavy when trying to avoid Bell or Rogers and just suffered out of stubbornness. This is far worse. I mean in Guelph it is different but qualifying for Carrytel service and having positive daytime Carrytel hours was fine. The minute 9pm hits 0.01Mbps download with 2 to 5 Mbps upload per multiple speed tests offer a three day period and it doesn't work till guess when, 10am the next morning which is Carrytel working hours. I noticed the service jumps to other servers I assume this may play a factor. However end of the day I dont give a f_ _ _. Internet doesn't play and speed test lags sometimes doesnt even load. So you tell me why, Carrytel modem and all. I am deeply concerned with this level of service, tried to call for customer service help to relay the information when it happened and the line had a prerecorded message saying was closed and then hung up. Not appreciative of this level of ignorance, after calling service and receiving the sage advice to reboot the modem (just wow) or direct connect through computer (which also did nothing). READ IN DETAIL. Make sure you ask a lot of questions before signing up. Yes, no contract and low costs... But, if you want to increase your package? There is a charge for that. Want to decrease your package, there is a charge for that! So in other words any adjustment to an account results in additional charges. Is there services outages. Yes there are, but no credit for that... My credit card was compromised and shut down by the CC company. It resulted in two missed payments (I only use the card for online so didn't catch it), they did not notify me and suspended my service, a quick phone call or text... They said they emailed me, but that looks like any other invoice and get filed in a separate folder. Understood. Logged on made the correction immediately perfect! Opps! there is a charge for that!... Try calling for support or even reaching out through Facebook? I have had no luck to discuss this with customer service, the game is they say they will talk to a supervisor, put you on hold and come back saying NOPE. Short answer, sorry don't like it take a hike... Guess what I am doing.... See ya! I will pay more for better services. The key thing to remember is that if you work from home or depend on your Internet services (home phone, TV, Security systems...). These are not the guys to trust. I explained to him i will be making a payment $35.00 no later then the 18th of July 2019. agent re insured me numerous times that i will not have a problem concerning any kind of cutting off my services. i asked numerous times if it will be a problem since the invoice was due the 2nd of July 2019. agent said no problem just call us on the 18th to make a credit card. My CarryTel internet was down and it was never fixed by CarryTel. I was forced to escalate with another company to restore my internet myself, and CarryTel never restored it. Now, when I want to cancel they are refusing to waive the cancellation fee and I'm not being compensated appropriately for having down their job. Do not get your internet with CarryTel - if something goes wrong, they'll expect you to fix it...and pay all the fees when you can't take it anymore. Should be shut down. Such scammers. They had good prices and so I decided to give a small ISP a chance instead of the "big guy" companies. First, I paid $79 in fees to startup my account and buy the router. Then, they told me they couldn't book me an appointment with a technician for five days from my move in date. I decided to continue with them, having faith that maybe the "little guy" would come through. They didn't! The router arrived just in time for my appointment, I set it up and was all set. My appointment was from 8am-10am two days before Christmas (Dec 23). 10am came and went, so I called the Carrytel Customer Care and they said, "Oh, I'm sorry, it looks like a technician can't come. How about we reschedule for after Christmas sometime?" At this point I was very upset. I rely on the internet for my job and I took some time off to move, but my days off were up and I need to get back! I told them this was unacceptable and I would like ALL my money back. I would go to another company (which I did and they saved the day!). They told me they can't get my shipping charges back (a total of $24 to have the modem shipped to me and to return to them). What's the point in having a modem shipped to you if the company cannot guarantee when I'll have access to internet!?! I'm so fed up with them and I hope they get shut down as they obviously have poor business sense. read more

Worst, do not buy. I pay for the 120mb package, the fastest I've ever gotten is 55mb. Quite the joke. Took over 2 months to install, which they never gave any money back or anything, just basically said it's not our fault. Internet has gone down out of no where two days straight near the same time and I don't see working again till morning. Very unreliable, DO NOT waste your time with this company, sure it's cheaper but you pay with the headaches and shut down time. I already know they will not be reimbursing anything for these random shutdowns of the internet going down for hours on end. Steer away! read more

Do not respect the speed advertised had to reset continuously the modem, they pretend it is the fault of Bell. Was with Bell before never had this problem. Customer service should be changed to customer annoyance, no respect, they just don't absolutely care. Overall, you get what you pay for and Carrytel doesn't deserve to be in business and the way they do their business, they won't be there for very long. read more

I had a poor experience with them to get cable internet. Originally I needed a technician to come set up the outside connection to the house. I received a callback that the install was scheduled but no one came. In the end, their side did not tell me it was not happening and I was not able to get a connection for 5 days. My job requires consistent internet. Calling multiple times resulted in no proper resolution and I have since canceled. I would say my overall customer support experience fell flat and I never sensed that they tried to correct their error until it was too late.
