Looking for cheap and fast internet? LOOK AWAY because CIK Telecom is NOT the company for you.
My family switched from Bell to CIK because our internet is unstable. We heard some great reviews from a close friend who got CIK so we thought, why not? As a Yelper, I read a whole bunch of CIK reviews, which should have given me some warning bells, but I did not heed it...
BIG MISTAKE THERE!
After getting CIK came the string-long of issues, multiple phone calls, extremely long holds, and overall crappy internet. Basically, we experienced EVERYTHING that people wrote in the reviews:
1) Spoke with a technician
2) Spoke with SENIOR technician
3) Rebooted the modem
4) Switched the modem
5) Had a technician visit my home (during COVID-19) to solve the issue
6) Repeat any of the above options.
GUESS WHAT?
Nothing worked. After being a CIK client for almost 10 months and giving the company multiple opportunities to redeem themselves, I told them they had ONE LAST CHANCE.
You see, the problem is NOT SPEED, but STABILITY. I honestly don't care how fast the internet speed is, it could be the FASTEST in the world for uploading and downloading BUT if I am NOT connected to the internet then... all that speed means, nothing. It's like owning the fastest car in the world, but if the car doesn't have gas, it ain't going nowhere. Y'all get the point...
For the last straw, I spoke with 4639 Michael (yep, at one point, I recorded the number and name of the person I was speaking with, because I was calling in so often). He is a senior technician, and he said he would help me fix the issue of STABILITY and would call back to check. I get a call less than 24-hours later by 4609 Philip to see how the internet was, and of course, it was working fine, but I specifically told 4639 Michael that I wanted a call A WEEK later to make sure the internet is still stable.
This is the common trend with CIK: you call, they "fix" the issue, then your internet works, but in a few days (three at most), the internet becomes a bit shaky, and after trying to be patient, hopeful that your last call with CIK did fix the issue... you find yourself on the phone again, hearing their motto: "Welcome to CIK, where the customer is king!"
Let me be real with y'all... the customer is NOT king at CIK, I feel more like a fool when I call CIK. Like I keep believing every time I call that they are actually solving my internet issue, but they are not. I called again recently and got connected with 4609 Philip, as I kept a record, I found that I came full circle with someone I spoke to before--you could tell how often and how many times I've called CIK in the last while.
I told 4609 Philip that I wanted to speak to the manager or his boss and he kept refusing. He said, "I am the supervisor" and I am like, "I want to talk to YOUR MANAGER, there is a difference!" I had to bring up CIK's motto "...where the customer is king!" to tell him, "If you are true to your company's motto, I want you to respect me and transfer my call to the manager." This is where 4609 Philip said his manager would call me back in 5-minutes. Ohhhh, I am NOT falling for that one. 4612 (I didn't catch his name) told me the manager would call me back in 30 minutes, but 2-hours later, I was the one calling CIK, so don't fall for the "we'll have our manager call you back"--because they ain't!
Anyways, I was SUPER adamant with 4609 Philip that I told him his manager could call me back WHILE I was on the phone with him, because if the manager does not call me back, at least I am on the phone with 4609 Philip and he could try again. THIS TACTIC WORKED--the manager gave me a call in less than 5-minutes.
I was on the phone with 4613 Raqesh, who is a manager. He listened to the issue and apologize, begged for one last chance to prove the company. He said he would send a technician to my home to fix the internet issue, maybe evaluate my home to see where is the best placement of the modem, etc.
I asked 4613 Raqesh, who has my account file pulled up in front of him, "When was the last time I had a technician come over to my home to fix the internet issue?" 4613 Raqesh noted it was a few months ago... then I asked him, "If that technician came and fixed the internet problem, why then am I on the phone with you right now about the ongoing internet issue? How can I trust that you will send a technician over to fix my internet when the last guy who came over could not? Does this make any sense to you? How can I trust your company anymore?"
At this point, 4613 Raqesh just went back to pleading, please give their company one last chance and his form of compensation, as a manager, is free internet for ONE WEEK---what a JOKE!
As a family, we are moving onto Rogers Ignite Internet. We found that our neighbours uses it and their connection is quite steady, so with fingers crossed, we hope this switch will give us the STABILITY my family needs.
