I had the chicken salad, and it was absolutely delicious--unique, with a few surprise ingredients and a sweet chili drizzle that completely made it. I'll definitely be stealing that idea for my own chicken salad. I also ordered the smoked turkey cranberry hoagie for later. When I asked if it would be possible to have the bread on the side so it wouldn't get soggy, the team at the counter went above and beyond, individually wrapping all of the ingredients so I could put together a fresh sandwich for dinner. Such thoughtful customer service. I couldn't leave without trying the toffee pretzel cookie, and wow... it was to die for. I shared it with a few of the other team parents, and the first question was whether you sell them by the dozen! This will absolutely be a repeat stop every year for this tournament, and probably several times throughout our stay in Mauston. Great food, incredible customer service, a fresh produce stand in the back, and the cutest little shop filled with unique finds. Highly recommend!

Oh rats! I was hoping this place'd be better…read more.. Driven past this on roadtrips many a time; decided to actually stop in and check it out on the most recent trip. I'd been drawn in by the silly rodent statue on top of the building, because I like touristy shops. Upon entry I immediately realized the place was kind of dingy and gross. We got there with about half an hour 'til closing and this fact certainly showed in the affect of all the employees. I was curious about sampling some of the cheeses, but all of the employees were apparently too busy getting ready to close to help us, so we didn't get to try any of the many varieties. It was a bit odd to me to have potential customers there in the store during business hours, and the employees are steadfastly ignoring our presence to turn off the lights and such. We took the hint, quickly used the restroom, made a small courtesy purchase, then left. Speaking of the restroom, the floors were really sticky. Eww. Noticed they had lots of signage up that they were hiring. Yeah, they should probably hire someone who gives AF, if I'm being really honest, cuz it seems to me this place probably was great at one point but has fallen into disrepair. I got a couple pieces of taffy and hubby got a bag of nuts. We could tell from the taste/texture that these items had been sitting for awhile. I'm not a proponent of wasting food, but if your store can't turn products around before they're expired, I recommend perhaps just not selling those things and stick to cheese... Anyway, reckon we'll try out another of the many cheese shops in Wisconsin next time we drive through. There's certainly plenty to choose from!

I found a some meats and cheeses in the wine building that has free samples of wine with a sign out front that said venison sausage and not knowing what they had I went in. WRM had a small section of game meat sausages with elk, venison and buffalo in various forms which I grabbed the venison sticks. The venison sticks were very good and reminded me of some that I had a year ago from a local deer processor which I liked but I could not buy because it was shared with me from a deer hunt, you can't buy it in the store. After tasting the first one I was saddened that I only bought one package because I had the last one today and it's all gone. I would definitely try more items from WRM when I come across them again and buy more items to take with me.

The squeak is like the bouquet of a fine wine....the sign of excellence....according to Wisconsin standards. They have more varieties of cheese than I can count along with fresh butter, Braunschweiger, Summer Sausage and a small ice cream store and more. Around Christmas expect long lines, customers purchase by the box load and gift fresh cheeses and sausages. A stop to the "Cheese Factory" isn't complete with a visit to the ice cream shop and enjoy a scoop or two in a cone or dish.
